Meet Amaura’s and Tyrunt’s Evolutions Aurorus & Tyrantrum! [UPD1]

[UPD1] A few new pictures added

The evolution for the recently revealed Pokémon Amaura has been leaked by the website Jeux Video. Its name is Aurorus and has a new attack called Freeze-Dry which is super effective against Water-type Pokémon and may freeze opponents! Update: IGN has now released some pictures of Tyrantrum, Tyrunt’s evolution. It can learn Head Smash.

Game Details

In addition to the two new Pokémon, various game outlets got to play Pokémon X & Y and have revealed some small additions to the games.

• New Kalos Pokémon will not be receiving Mega Evolutions, only Pokémon from generations 1 through 5
• It’s official, Masuda has confirmed that the overworld will not be in 3D, only battles and some special scenes
• PokéCenters will now feature an area to customize trainer appearance alongside the medical area and PokéMart
• Pokémon now gain XP when the wild opponent is captured
• Professor Sequioa asks you to run an errand at the start of the game: delivering a letter to your mother

Trivia

Amargasaurus

Amaura and its evolution are both probably based on Amargasaurus. The artist of the above picture has depicted it with skin sails similar to the two Pokémon, but recent theories speculate that the rows of spikes probably stood on their own without any connecting tissue.

1. Wow I’m getting swarmed with all these blogs, interviews, and reveals. .__. Would PokeJungle be able to provide links to all of these interviews? Apparently Eurogamer, IGN, and Polygen all had them and I’m getting confused, like I’m missing something.

Something cool I read is that there are different encounter rates depending on the color of the flowers. That makes sense considering there are apparently a TON of Pokemon, old and new, in the game. Masuda also said that leveling and raising Pokemon was made easier so that the game remains fast paced and dynamic to keep the attention of players, rather than letting players get bored. Good idea!

• It was very unlikely they would have given Mega Evolutions to the new Pokémon because that would make them look a little overpowered in there first ever appearance, there could always be next gen though.

Reply
• Think about it rationally though, there are 700+ Pokémon now with them all getting 3D models. They also have to make models for however many Mega Evolutions there are, if they made Mega forms for every Pokémon including the Kalos Pokémon that would be over 1400 3D models they have to make. We don’t know how long to takes them to complete the models but its probably a few days to make them due to poses as movement. That would be too much of a hassle to have to do.

Reply
• Put it this way then, would you rather experience the Kalos Pokemon for the first time along with their evolutions to get a feel for them or immediately just bypass all the new final evolutions and go straight to Mega Evolutions to just sweep every team and get through the game in about a few hours?

• I do agree about that but I really hope that if they are not included in X and Y in-game, can gamefreak release them by DLC maybe 1~2 years later. I just hope the model files for the X and Y mega evolutions exist in the internal game data

• They will probably be in either the rumored Pokemon Z or like X2 and Y2 or whatever the third game is, or they will be in the 7th generation and you will just have to wait patiently until then and enjoy the new Pokemon as they are. Also I would find it easier to believe that they won’t give us any Mega Stones in-game (aside from the event Torchic) until post game so we can get better attached to our Pokemon and not have to worry about being overpowered.

• In the IGN interview they confirmed that X and Y were based off the dimensions, so Z is the likely 3rd Game. If Z is released that means its has to have connectivity with X and Y. Which basically means that Kalos pokemon already have model files for their mega evolutions in the internal game data in X and Y if kalos mega evolutions were introduced in Z for connectivity to exist. Its just that the mega stones are not obtainable in-game in X and Y. That’s my hypotheisis. They are obviously doing this so Z remains fresh also.

• No 3DS game is 8GB. None of them are even 4GB. Large capacity cartridges are expensive and no games are likely to use 8GB carts in the coming future.

• I think the internal game data has kalos mega evolutions. Its just that in X and Y you can’t obtain the mega stones. I’m fine with that as long as they release it later.

• We don’t know. The IGN article revealing Tyrantrum spoke of this person, talking about delivering a latter for them/to them, something like that. No other details than that.

• Would be interesting if we have a parent who is a professor, we have had a father who was a gym leader. You know, it would also just be interesting to have a freaking father again XD

Reply
• LOL Agreed, since in my head at least, I see my father (who is a retied Zoologist IRL) as a Pokemon Professor as well, so it would fill the void….wait…..could this mean in the anime…..we may meet Ash’s father?!?!

• Never know. Apparently this Serena will be a childhood friend of Ash back before he got his Pokemon, so the opportunity is certainly there.

• Either my guess is he’s the “third” professor of Kalos if the region is split into 3 part due to 3 Pokedex parts. But I have another theory below.

does this means that there actually is a second professor just like the pokebeach leaker said?

3. As much as I love the new Pokemon, the gameplay is a huge factor for my general NEED for this game. I’ve been reading the two interviews from Polygen and Eurogamer to pick out the significant details relating to gameplay and environments. Feel free to add any I miss.

-Pokemon retains its familiar settings with notable tweaks and upgrades. Probably the most noticeable is the updated visuals, including 3D models and environments. The areas are more ‘filled’ and the camera retains its top-down perspective but there are more dynamic camera angles.

-The games and anime are somewhat influencing each other. The games and animation will flow more together to define what Pokemon are actually like. Hopefully they still leave in lot of headcanon and ambiguity.

-Accessories include badges, buttons, ribbons, and bows. There is apparently a very large wardrobe as opposed to only a few selections.

-You travel a lot with your friends. I wish they would let you travel with actual players on your friends list. I would love to go on a ‘Pokemon adventure’ with my brother and boyfriend and other friends.

-There is a Professor Sequoia, whom apparently has you deliver a letter back to your mom. Perhaps this is the Patrice character PokeBeach rumors mentioned?

-The amount of Pokemon in the game is very high, although no actual number was defined. Polygen claims all Pokemon will be available but I don’t find that believable.

-Older generations will appear. Pokemon like Pikachu and Psyduck are available very early game. Pidgey and Caterpie are also apparently catchable.

-You received a Kanto starter from lazy-ass Sycamore after the first gym.

-Sycamore also challenges you to a battle at some point. Sycamore is apparently studying Mega Evolutions as his professor-theme. I guess we can assume he will have at least one Mega on his team.

-Wild Pokemon encounter rates depend on the color of flowers you are in.

-Mega evolutions are only temporary due to strategy reasons. Since mego evos require a held item, opponents wouldn’t be able to tell if you will mega evo or not (or what you will evolve into in the case with Mewtwo). This means you’ll have to guess your opponent’s strategy.

-No Kalos Pokemon get mega evolutions.

-Megas are also not permanent due to the fact that Pokemon would then be too OP.

-Masuda said that there is importance to the legendaries on the respective box arts. Apparently the versions change in story, gameplay, and exclusive content. I suppose this is similar to how the story changes in Ruby/Sapphire.

-Polygen claims that Pokemon noises are less like a fax machine but I don’t know if I believe them. Although granted…the noises have gotten better.

-Polygen is surprised by this but we already knew that running is now default and movement is now faster. Putting it out there for everyone who forgot to be happy.

-NPCs still talk like morons.

-Super training, PSS, and Amie are easily accessible on the bottom screen for players to choose whichever fits their gameplay style.

-No note on how many new Pokemon there will be. I hope they don’t sacrifice the total number of new Pokemon for involvement of older Pokemon.

-Since catching all of the Pokemon is pretty damn hard due to the sheer number of Pokemon, the focus is not knowing what kind of Pokemon you will run into on your journey. This is why more is better.

-They’ve wanted to do international releases for a while so we can assume future games will do the same.

-There is a lot to do post game but it is all in Kalos. Sorry, gen 3 fans.

-Pokemon was made to be fast paced. Grinding, leveling, and training are now easier (this includes EV training and happiness levels). This is due to the fact that many free games are accessible, so the dev team didn’t want players to get bored. The game aims to be constantly interesting and involving so made the adventure more brisk with still a ton to do.

-Get your heads out of the gutter: no news on Pokemon on the Wii U. Well, for main titles anyway.

-POKEMON SNAP? YES PLEASE. Masuda said basically maybe but it would have to have very innovative ideas involved.

Reply
• I read somewhere else that ALL Pokemon would be available. Wonder what is THAT going to do for a nuzlocke :1

Also, getting all legendaries, finally? Doubt it..

• “NPCs still talk like morons” made me chortle.

Also: the fact that Masuda even acknowledged a potential Snap sequel is exceedingly goo news

• One of the interviews said that old Pokemon like Panpour and Zigzagoon are findable in the first hour. I sure hope that the new Pokemon are still the spotlight- I just completed the national dex in Black 2 and have one of every Pokemon (minus events) in my box. I don’t need old ones- I need the new ones!

That said, the different encounters depending on the flowers is pretty great. Typically I guess there’d be 7 different Pokemon on a single route, but now there could be up to 15 or 20 depending on the flower. This would be a great way to balance out the plethora of old and new Pokemon. If I have to walk in the pink flowers to find my Litleo for hours, I will do it. Also, I hope shaking grass is back- Audino hunting saved me so much time leveling my Pokemon up.

Also, it seems like PokéJungle seems to have Disqus’ comments on Best (which sorts them by highest upvoted to lowest) by default as apposed to other sites that have it on Newest. So, whenever I visit the comment section on these articles, I can see the avatars, but I like to sort the comments to Newest and when I do that all the avatars end up lookin’ like an empty white square space that says Avatar at the top in blue.
Basically, whenever I change the comments away from Best or even click on the Community tab, it obliterates all Avatars like Exodia. Once again, blaaaah! 🙁

• That’s the same exact problem for me!! 🙁 It’s on Best, I can see all the great avatars, I change to Newest and BAM, everybody is a blank 🙁

• I really hope Paul or one of the other P. Jungle staff members can help us. It seems to be a Disqus problem, cause it’s like this on other sites that use it, as well, but, PJ can at least change PJN’s Disqus default to Newest rather than Best, if possible. That would be a big help! D:

7. Amaura’s freeze dry move is amazing! 4x on swampert, 4x on gyrados, 4x on Kingdra, 4x on ludicolo. I think I’m choosing Amaura despite Tyrunt looking so AMAZING.

Reply
• Well, this is based on that it would still do regular ice damage, so it would still be super effective on Ground, and due to it’s attributes, it’s now super effective on Water, so it would be like a Grass attack hitting it instead now, as it’s super effective against both parts.

• It wouldn’t be 4X though. And I read the article. If ice is currently neutral to Swampert because it’s water/ground, the effect would only be 2X due to the water typing.

• It’s neutral on Water/Ground because it’s super effective on Ground, but Water resists Ice. Water would now be weak to Ice as well, so that should make it 4x, because super effective on water, super effective on ground together.

• The reason that ice does 2x to swampert is because water resist ice (0.5x) and ice does (2x) to ground. So,
0.5 x 2 = 1, that’s why it was neutral

Now ice is super effective to water so it does (2x) and ice does (2x) to ground
2 x 2 = 4 that’s why its 4x

• With your argument, freeze dry’s effect ought to be that it IGNORES water typing. That means freeze dry does neutral to swampert, gyrados, Kingdra, and ludicolo. And it does neutral to water types. That makes no sense! Dual type pokemon are not treated separately from single type pokemon. Thats why electric moves do 4x to gyarados, not 2x because electric moves does 2x BOTH of the types. It compounds.

• I never said that it would ignore the water typing. That is the effect of the move to be super effective, Making it super effective against Grass, Ground, Water, and Flying and whatever I left off. You’re saying that the effect ignores the typing and ice will effect it. When Ice is neutral against Water/Ground, it would follow the rule:

Freeze Dry: This move does super effective damage against water types.

It will do its usual neutral damage and the effect would kick in, doubling that and giving it 2X the damage. The ground typing would not be effected in any way because that’s mot the water half. The way your belief would work is if
A) The effect kicked in and did 2X WHILE canceling out the water typing and effecting the secondary typing
or
B) They changed the mechanics of the whole idea.

A moves effect will only affect what it says it will. So!
Swampert now has two weaknesses: 4X to Grass, and 2X to Freeze Dry due to the effect. Its water typing weakness to the move will have nothing to do with its ground typing. Same goes for other dual typed water types.

I’m through with this argument. Ice is neutral to Water/Ground. Unless the effect states other wise, it will only bother the water half of the typing.

8. Im really pumped up for this new generation. The pokemon designs are way to better than the previous gen. The fossil pokemon remindh me f dinosaur king and fossil monsters.

11. If there truly is a Legendary Pokémon to represent Z the way Xerneas represents X and Yveltal represents Y (and we all know there will be), would you imagine it to appear like this?
Introducing, *cough*unofficially*cough* Zidhoggon!

Reply
• In a way, true. But, think of it this way…
If Xerneas represents good as the Life Pokémon and Yveltal represents bad as the Destruction Pokémon, then what would possibly come between them?
Balance. The Z Pokémon could represent a neutral stance as the Balance Pokémon. Neither good nor bad, but also both. There’s life, there’s death… but somtimes, there’s limbo. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limbo" class="extiw" title="wp:Limbo/<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purgatory" class="extiw" title="wp:Purgatory.

That dragon was cray-cray. Always rampaging.
This Z dragon could have more of a “don’t bother me, and I won’t bother you” type of personality. Its not picking a side.
Its just doing its duty as the Balance Pokémon.

• Ew. Decay makes me think of undead/zombies
and that’s not a great balance! 🙁
But by balance, I meant something to keep life and death in check and keep them equal in power. Think of a Libra scale.

• I don’t think he meant decay in that sense. When the body decays, it gives life to other things. For example, an animal’s physical body decays to give nutrients to the soil and plants. You don’t really need a balance as it is already a perfect cycle.

• Not in the Pokémon world, it’s not.
In the real world, no one or thing controls life or death.
In the Pokémon world, there’s all sorts of crazy powers going around that could definitely use some controlling every now and then so things won’t get too chaotic.

• I’m planning on training both at some point for use, Aurorus because it has interesting aspects I think could be very cool in battle, and Tyrantrum because it’s friggen awesome. Also I’ve been meaning to say this, but Pyroar was ‘leaked’ last wednesday, and then was officially revealed last week from this day… and then on today, Thursday, we get these two guys revealed… I’m already calling we are getting something next week on Thursday.

Reply
• Just, two weeks in a row we got something on Thursday? It may just be evolutions of stuff we know about, but I don’t see that being a coincidence. Any guesses for next week? I’m thinking either Helioptile, to go along with Pyroar, or maybe Clauncher and Skrelp evos. Depends on what pattern they want to use.

Reply
• Looking at the current “trend”, it seems to be evos for gen VI pokemon so I’m hoping for a helioptile evo (to get another reptile into the team!) but I think that on the Thursday directly before the release day we’ll get final starter evos.

• Well, Rock is a Fantastic Attacking type for one, Dragon, while nerfed thanks to Fairy, still will be able to hit a lot of things pretty strong, just needs to watch out for fairy switch ins, it’s getting the bite upgrade, so it should get plenty of fang moves that will be buffed considerably that it can use and give coverage, It will get a Special Defense boost in Sandstorm, so it will be more durable that way, as I bet a lot of it’s counters will be in the special department… Not a lot of resistances though, the grass and water resistances are cancelled out, though it keeps Electric and Fire resistance, the latter doing absolutely nothing to it. Of course will resist Normal, flying, and poison as well
