Meet Amaura’s and Tyrunt’s Evolutions Aurorus & Tyrantrum! [UPD1]

[UPD1] A few new pictures added

The evolution for the recently revealed Pokémon Amaura has been leaked by the website Jeux Video. Its name is Aurorus and has a new attack called Freeze-Dry which is super effective against Water-type Pokémon and may freeze opponents! Update: IGN has now released some pictures of Tyrantrum, Tyrunt’s evolution. It can learn Head Smash.

Game Details

In addition to the two new Pokémon, various game outlets got to play Pokémon X & Y and have revealed some small additions to the games.

  • New Kalos Pokémon will not be receiving Mega Evolutions, only Pokémon from generations 1 through 5
  • It’s official, Masuda has confirmed that the overworld will not be in 3D, only battles and some special scenes
  • PokéCenters will now feature an area to customize trainer appearance alongside the medical area and PokéMart
  • Pokémon now gain XP when the wild opponent is captured
  • Professor Sequioa asks you to run an errand at the start of the game: delivering a letter to your mother

Trivia

Amargasaurus

Amaura and its evolution are both probably based on Amargasaurus. The artist of the above picture has depicted it with skin sails similar to the two Pokémon, but recent theories speculate that the rows of spikes probably stood on their own without any connecting tissue.

  1. Tyrantrum is pretty amazing. Even though I prefer the more regal/sophisticated/elegant sorts of pokemon for a slot on my team, I will definitely use this pokemon in the future, though probably not my first run-through. I am glad to see the white frills, red scaley skin, and gold spiked-head plate (with gold scales scattered sporadically) I’d give this about a 9 out of 10. It’s a really exciting design!

Aurorus is definitely better than its pre-evolution. The saturated orange-yellow frill looks much better as a less saturated yolk color. The white crown on it’s head significantly improves what it’s pre-evolution was missing as well. It gives it more character. Lastly, the new additions of crystals patterned around the jagged dark/light blue lining, swirled tail, and elongated frills really changed my mind about this pokemon line. I would say the design is about an 8.5 out of 10.

These are both solid additions to the Kalos region.

  2. I really like aurorus!! It’s cute 🙂 And I really like tyrantrum. Especially it’s name! And it’s really great that pokemon gain exp from assisting in a capture now. And I’m sad the overworld won’t be in 3D ;( I really like the 3D feature..Ocarina of time was awesome. All well. I guess that will just make the next game better when they probably have a fully 3D world! I wish we would get an ice type version of spore that would 100% freeze an opponent. That’d be epic.

  3. So I read the interview on polygon article. If Game Freak is including ALL the pokemon in the game, I guess there would be no re-makes of R/S/E?

Also I really want to know if we don’t have to use pokemon as HM Slaves. As they said “Everything will be available from the start” for some reason I interpreted that phase as getting tools/equipment that that enable you to get through the game Like cutting tools, surfboard, and a torch. That would be glorious. XD I know that is illogical but that is what came to my mind when I read that,

  4. Does this mean the PokeMart will be separated? I didn’t like how they combined the Pokecentre and mart into.one in Gen 5 …and I from what i read, them seem they are combining the boutique too. Its like a Pokemon Wal-Mart. Nuuuu

    Reply
    • No they are all together along with the boutique. I mean they are likely getting rid of the whole top floor because they are pointless now that there is the PSS so they have more room to add yet another facility. I am looking forwards to seeing the new Center’s design.

      • Drat. I like how the PokeMart was seperate as it made it more town town, so that adds to the charm in my opinion, same if the boutique was in a separate building too. Though if they execute the ‘Wal-Mart- style PokeCenter really well, they really dedicate each area well then I should learn to accept it. 😛

        • I liked how they were separate too. Pokemart had its own theme too, which you can’t hear anymore.

Also, Pokemon Centers have a place where you can change clothes, but there are also separate places to buy clothes like a Department Store.

  5. Have to say, I’m a bit disappointed about no 6th gen Pokemon getting mega evos 🙁 I did want to have an all Kalos team. New fossil Pokemon look amazing :-O especially arororus.

  6. This made my decision much harder. I definitely know I’m getting Amaura. That evo is FABULOUS! But I’m not sure about Tyrunt for my other game

  7. Kind of disappointed with the rex evo, now I probably will pick Amaura. xD

    Where is this Polygen interview?

Also, exp when you capture things? Yes please.

  8. In a portuguese interview Hironobu Yoshida (the grafic designer of GF) said:
“O meu pokémon favorito é o Froakie. Esta é a minha escolha porque gosto de forma como evolui. Quando começares a jogar vais poder ver por ti próprio. Acho a evolução espetacular e espero que toda a gente tenha a oportunidade”
” My favourite pokemon is Froakie. This is my choise because I like how it evolves. When you will start playing you will be able to see it yourself. I think the evolution is spectacular and I hope…(don’t know here what he says)”
Can someone who know the language do the right and full traslation??
P.s. If Froakie is the designer favourite new pokemon then it will be awesome!!!!

    • You got the translation right. That last sentence seems like it wasn’t finished, it lacks something (it even lacks a period).

I find it interesting that Masuda says there might be a easier way to get shinies in XY.

      • Another interesting bit Masuda told was that there will be great variety in the pokémon that can be found in the wild and the idea is that each time you enter the tall grass, you find a different pokémon. Also, depending on the color of the flowers in the tall grass, the ratio for the pokémon encounters and their types are different.

  9. Sweet, more news while I was in class lol. Well I deff know my new team member is, but also this is some good stuff. I like the features, all though I’m a bit bummed about no mega evos for gen 6 pokemon. But still, this game has me hyped, too bad I already beat GTA V so now I’m once again bored waiting :/

    One
of the few early story tweaks is that you now receive your first
Pokémon via a group of friends. (Your choices are tough-shelled grass
choice Chespin, vulpine fire beastie Fennekin and the frog-like water
option, Froakie). Your pals accompany you through the game’s initial
locations, and you don’t meet the game’s Pokémon professor, Augustine
Sycamore, until after the first gym. It’s at this point you’ll receive
your Kanto starter, one of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. You’ll
also get to battle the professor, too, Masuda hinted.

      • No, Freeze Dry does damage, it’s an actual attack. An Ice attack that curiously does Super Effective damage on Water, and it can freeze, but no where has it been confirmed it 100% freezes.

        Reply
        • I don’t understand why they didn’t modify Ice type to be super effective on water type anyway.

Is there any chance that this could of been omitted or missed off the new type chart? Risk of GF trolling?

          Reply
          • My theory is that ice melts in water, but that makes the water colder. If Ice were to be super effective against Water, it would’ve had to be called ‘Cold’ Type or something, because ice and water are equals in real life. Like I said before with my theory, they affect the other. The only reason I think a real-life reason for why types match up is because Fire beats Grass, etc….

  11. You know… I almost think that these two should have been in Gen V. Because, Tyrantrum there is PERFECT for Drayden to use as his signature Pokemon, and Aurorus really looks like something Iris would have used in her champion battle, in place of lapras or archeops.
