Meet Amaura’s and Tyrunt’s Evolutions Aurorus & Tyrantrum! [UPD1]

[UPD1] A few new pictures added

The evolution for the recently revealed Pokémon Amaura has been leaked by the website Jeux Video. Its name is Aurorus and has a new attack called Freeze-Dry which is super effective against Water-type Pokémon and may freeze opponents! Update: IGN has now released some pictures of Tyrantrum, Tyrunt’s evolution. It can learn Head Smash.

Game Details

In addition to the two new Pokémon, various game outlets got to play Pokémon X & Y and have revealed some small additions to the games.

  • New Kalos Pokémon will not be receiving Mega Evolutions, only Pokémon from generations 1 through 5
  • It’s official, Masuda has confirmed that the overworld will not be in 3D, only battles and some special scenes
  • PokéCenters will now feature an area to customize trainer appearance alongside the medical area and PokéMart
  • Pokémon now gain XP when the wild opponent is captured
  • Professor Sequioa asks you to run an errand at the start of the game: delivering a letter to your mother

Trivia

Amargasaurus

Amaura and its evolution are both probably based on Amargasaurus. The artist of the above picture has depicted it with skin sails similar to the two Pokémon, but recent theories speculate that the rows of spikes probably stood on their own without any connecting tissue.

  1. Aurorus has a move called Freeze Dry, which is an Ice-type move which freezes the opponent but is said to be super effective against Water-type Pokémon.

This doesn’t say whether its 100% freeze or not, but it seems so. I hope Frosslas gets this, it just fits to me.

    • Interview definitely confirms we get the Kanto starters at the beginning of the game. And if no Kalos Pokemon get mega evolutions, then they are probably going to be how it gets shown off for us*besides Torchic* as opposed to the Kalos starters. Though… I hope the Kalos starters stats are a bit higher than the regular starters to compensate, not MASSIVELY so, but a bit at least.

    • Oh Snap, they’d like a new Snap game. It doesn’t look like anything will happen with that comment for a long time though, but people can still dream, right?

  2. So I saw the polygon interview and this got my attention:

“X and Y will include all Pokemon from all previous games, offering the largest selection of Pokemon in any of the series’ titles.”

I really like the sound of that 😀

  3. IGN article says this:

“The names of X and Y represent the philosophy we had behind the two games,” explained Yoshida. “We’ve taken the idea of X and Y from the geometric X- and Y-axes. They represent two different ways of thought. At the same time, we want to convey a message encouraging people to find a common ground, where X and Y converge.”

When I explained my theory to Masuda, he seemed bemused. “Xerneas is meant to evoke imagery of eternity, while Yveltal is destruction. Perhaps you could see some ties between feminine and masculine qualities there!”

  4. So these so called Dual Typed moves may not be Dual typed at all…it seems they will be more advanced that anything. Taking on more personalised effects based on what they do. So Freeze Dry is still an ice type move but since it freezes all liquids and turns them dry it is also super effective against water types.

      • Exactly! I personally love it…it seems like a natural evolution for moves (side note: they have said evolution is one of the themes for XY so this does make sense) and gives them more personality. I noticed it with Scald last gen…personally i loved that move because it had an extra trait that was unusual for a water move. When you used it on grass types and they glowed red it almost seemed like it should have been super effective.

        • Hahaha, changing effects across colors/types is a nice new-idea. It’s quite creative, and this Freeze Dry is too. Hope they have more in store for us.

  5. This may sound insane coming from me a Major Ground type enthusiast, but it’s high time ice Pokemon got a move that can freeze a opponent instantly since we have status moves for every ailment.

But then again, Ice types hurt….a lot…so cold…

    • Well, it won’t be this one. Or if it is, it’ll only have 50% accuracy at the most. Because it does deal damage. No way they are going to have a 100% accuracy move that deals damage and instantly causes freeze without horrible accuracy, unless it’s a really really weak attack, and even then, Freeze is a lot more detrimental than say paralysis and burn *zap cannon and infenro, two attacks that have done this.*

    • Not entirely necessary, nor expected, but it is sotra cool. It really won’t make too much of a difference, but I guess it’s small nice, touch. Hmm, imagine catching a Lv 55 Audino with a Quick Ball and only having a Lv 1 Chespin with a Lucky Egg in battle. It’d almost be fully evolved by the end of the battle.

  6. the two dinos are awesome in game but I thought the artworks were fakes… it looks like bad deviantarts. sometimes in gen6 I don’t recognize sugimori’s art. is it just me ?

        • I don’t disagree at all. I’d like to see the Dream World art of Quilladin for instance, because I think it for one looks a lot better in game than his artwork, which is at such a TERRIBLE angle. Hell, the in game of Braixen has made me appreciate it a bit more, based on the art I was unimpressed.

      • His style has changed since the beginning, of course, but this time I have a strange feeling. Look at Venusaur modern artwork VS Mega venusaur artwork, I see much more work in venusaur ( I mean, the lines, not the design)

Tyrantrum’s jaw in the artwork, the lines are strange, there something wrong…

        • Well, he has that beard shape on his jaw, which is separate from the jaw itself. Looks to be the same material as his neck fringe. It is a fairly sharp division, though. Maybe there is something different, but the art itself is still official art.

  7. I don’t mind the Kalos pokes not having Mega’s yet.
We have to get used to them.
When Black 1 and White 1 came around 5th Gen Poke’s didnt have Dreamworld abilities yet

We’ll get Mega 6th Gen Pokes in maybe Version Z or Emerald remake
