Meet Amaura’s and Tyrunt’s Evolutions Aurorus & Tyrantrum! [UPD1]

[UPD1] A few new pictures added

The evolution for the recently revealed Pokémon Amaura has been leaked by the website Jeux Video. Its name is Aurorus and has a new attack called Freeze-Dry which is super effective against Water-type Pokémon and may freeze opponents! Update: IGN has now released some pictures of Tyrantrum, Tyrunt’s evolution. It can learn Head Smash.

Game Details

In addition to the two new Pokémon, various game outlets got to play Pokémon X & Y and have revealed some small additions to the games.

  • New Kalos Pokémon will not be receiving Mega Evolutions, only Pokémon from generations 1 through 5
  • It’s official, Masuda has confirmed that the overworld will not be in 3D, only battles and some special scenes
  • PokéCenters will now feature an area to customize trainer appearance alongside the medical area and PokéMart
  • Pokémon now gain XP when the wild opponent is captured
  • Professor Sequioa asks you to run an errand at the start of the game: delivering a letter to your mother

Trivia

Amargasaurus

Amaura and its evolution are both probably based on Amargasaurus. The artist of the above picture has depicted it with skin sails similar to the two Pokémon, but recent theories speculate that the rows of spikes probably stood on their own without any connecting tissue.

  1. I was hoping the evolutions would help me decide which fossil to pick…but I love both of them!!
Ah well, can’t decide, guess I’ll flip a coin. Heads for Tyrantrum, Tails for Aurorus.
    *Flips coin*

    …Tyrantrum it is!

  2. Edit @ 13:42: According to an interview on Polygon, it has been stated that no Kalos Pokémon will have a Mega Evolution within Pokémon X & Y.

Serebii just posted this. Take it how you will.

  4. Aurorus has a move called Freeze Dry, which is an Ice-type move which freezes the opponent but is said to be super effective against Water-type Pokémon.

This doesn’t say whether its 100% freeze or not, but it seems so. I hope Frosslas gets this, it just fits to me.

        • It would be a highly inaccurate move though, 50% at the most. And to show off a special move that can do super effective damage on Water types, I really think it just has a chance of freezing, maybe a bit higher than the usual 10% chance, but not 100.

          • Doesn’t matter to me, as long as it’s bulky enough to take a hit while i spam freeze dry. Though, i think tyrantrum should get a similar move, but se on fairy, or steel.

    • On the nintendolife site, they word it as It can expel air as cold as –240 degrees Fahrenheit to damage enemies, or even form a wall of ice as protection. A move making its debut in X & Y, meanwhile, is Freeze-Dry, which is Super-Effective against Water types (unlike some other Ice moves) and can freeze opponents. It says can, which implies it won’t be 100% Besides, if it did have 100% freeze, that means it’s accuracy would be 50% or less to match Inferno and Zap Cannon.

    • I wonder how it will be super-effective on water, it sounds like an Ice-type move. Maybe it’s our first Dual-type move to be revealed?

        • Wonder if Scald will be retconned into dealing super effective damage on Grass or Ice or something like that, giving it actual fire type traits.

        • This I like. I think it gives an apt advantage to ice types, especially as it seems like most water types won’t be able to learn it unlike Ice Beam.

          • Yup, they definitely need all the help they can get. And most water types walling them has never been kind to them.

I wonder if there will be more like this move..
