Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet introduce new Pokémon abilities which can be utilized to create new strategies in battle. This page catalogues and explains each of the new abilities added in the games.

Anger Shell
The ability Anger Shell activates when a Pokémon’s HP reaches half or less. It lowers both its Defense and Sp. Defense, but raises its Attack, Sp. Attack and Speed stats.

Armor Tail
The ability Armor Tail prevents the opposing Pokémon from using priority moves. Priority moves are those that allow a Pokémon to attack first, regardless of their speed.

Beads Of Ruin
The Power of the Pokémon’s ruinous beads lowers the Sp. Def of all Pokémon except itself.

Commander
When the Pokémon enters a battle, it goes inside the mouth of an ally Dondozo if one is on the field. The Pokémon then issues commands from there.

Costar
When the Pokémon enters a battle, it copies an ally’s stat changes.

Cud Chew
The ability Cud Chew makes it so that if a Pokémon eats a berry at the beginning of its turn, it will eat it again at the end of the turn as well.

Earth Eater
If hit by a Ground-type move, the Pokémon has its HP restored instead of taking damage.

Electromorphosis
The ability Electromorphosis powers up the next Electric-type move a Pokémon uses if it is hit by an opponent’s attack.

Good As Gold
A body of pure, solid gold gives the Pokémon full immunity to other Pokémon’s status moves.

Guard Dog
Boosts the Pokémon’s Attack stat if intimidated. Moves and items that would force the Pokémon to switch out also fail to work.
Note: Attack increase only activated if Intimidate would cause a stat drop, not for forced switches

Hadron Engine
Turns the ground into Electric terrain when the Pokémon enters the battle. The futuristic engine within the Pokémon also boosts its Sp. Atk stat on Electric terrain.

Lingering Aroma
Contact with the Pokémon change the attacker’s ability to Lingering Aroma.

Mycelium Might
The Pokémon will always act more slowly when using status moves, but these moves will be unimpeded by the Ability of the target.

Opportunist
If an opponent’s stat is boosted, the Pokémon seizes the opportunity to boost the same stat for itself.

Orichalcum Pulse
Turns the sunlight harsh when the Pokémon enters a battle. The ancient pulse thrumming through the Pokémon also boosts its Attack stat in harsh sunlight.

Protosynthesis
Boosts the Pokémon’s most proficient stat in harsh sunlight, or if the Pokémon is holding Booster Energy.
Pokémon that can be caught with the ability Protosynthesis: Great Tusk, Scream Tail, Brute Bonnet, Flutter Mane, Slither Wing, Sandy Shocks and Roaring Moon
Purifying Salt
The Pokémon’s pure salt protects it from status conditions and halves the damage taken from Ghost-type moves.

Quark Drive
Boosts the Pokémon’s most proficient stat on Electric Terrain, or if the Pokémon is holding Booster Energy.

Rocky Payload
Powers up Rock-type moves.

Seed Sower
Turns the ground into Grassy Terrain when the Pokémon is hit by an attack.

Sharpness
Powers up slicing moves.
Pokémon that can be caught with the ability Sharpness: Gallade, Veluza, Hisuian Samurott and Kleavor
Supreme Overlord
When the Pokémon enters a battle, its Attack and Sp. Atk are slightly boosted for each of the allies in its party that have already been defeated.
Note: One fainted ally is 1.2 times boost, additional fainted allies add 0.1 boost. Max seems to be 1.6 times boost.

Sword Of Ruin
The power of the Pokémon’s ruinous sword lowers the Defense stat of all Pokémon except itself.

Tablets Of Ruin
The Power of the Pokémon’s ruinous wooden tablets lowers the Attack of all Pokémon except itself.

Thermal Exchange
Boosts the Attack stat when the Pokémon is hit by a Fire-type move. The Pokémon also cannot be burned.

Toxic Debris
Scatters poison spikes at the feetof the opposing team when the Pokémon takes damage from physical moves.

Vessel of Ruin
The Power of the Pokémon’s ruinous vessels lowers the Sp. Atk of all Pokémon except itself.

Well-Baked Body
This Pokémon takes no damage when hit by Fire-type moves. Instead, its Defense stat is sharply boosted.

Wind Power
The Pokémon becomes charged when it is hit by a wind move, boosting the power of the next Electric-type move the Pokémon uses.
Note: Also activated by Tailwind
Pokémon that can be caught with the ability Wind Power: Wattrel and Kilowattrel
Wind Rider
Boosts the Pokémon’s Attack stat if Tailwind takes effect or if the Pokémon is hit by a wind move. The Pokémon also takes no damage from wind moves.

Zero To Hero
The Pokémon transform into its Hero Form when it switches out.
