Guide for encountering and catching Bloodmoon Ursaluna

01. Start Perrin’s quest

In order to encounter Bloodmoon Ursaluna, you’ll need to talk to photographer Perrin. She won’t let you help right out of the gate though, she will request that you register 150 Pokémon in your Kitakami Pokédex.

Tips for registering 150 Pokémon

Depending on your progress on the Paldea Pokédex, which has some overlap with the Kitakami Pokédex, you may have a little or long way to go to get to 150 registered Pokémon in order to start working with Perrin and ultimately catching Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Here are some quick tips for fleshing out your Pokédex in Kitakami:

  1. Evolve Pokémon that you’ve already caught whose evolutions haven’t been registered yet in your Pokédex. Level-based evolutions can be sped up with the use of Exp. Candy and Rare Candy that you may have accumulated during your adventures.
  2. Use Fast Balls or Level Balls, the latter depending on your Pokémon’s level versus that of the wild Pokémon, while exploring Kitakami. The grasslands, water and caves can quickly fill up your Pokédex.

Perrin’s requests don’t stop there, however; you will also need to defeat her in battle. She will use Noctowl and Leafeon, so plan your team accordingly.

02. Explore the Timeless Woods

Perrin will ask to meet in the Timeless Woods. When you meet up, there will be a short battle with another Pokémon and you’ll learn more details about Perrin’s goals.

You’ll go throughout the woods helping her take photographs for a short time.

03. Defeat Bloodmoon Ursaluna

Your time with Perrin will culminate in an encounter with Bloodmoon Ursaluna, which must be defeated. You won’t be able to catch it during battle, but after it is defeated you’ll have the ability to throw your desired Poké Ball, which is guaranteed to catch this special Ursaluna.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna FAQs

Can Ursaring evolve into Bloodmoon Ursaluna?

Many people are wondering how to evolve their Ursaring into Bloodmoon Ursaluna but unfortunately this is not possible. Bloodmoon Ursaluna is a special one-off form that can only be obtained through the quest in The Teal Mask. This may change in the future, such as it being distributed as a Mystery Gift in a future game, but right now there is no way to evolve an Ursaring into Bloodmoon Ursaluna.

Bloodmoon Ursaluna can be considered similar to Ash-Greninja in that its form is a special encounter not available through normal evolution.

Can Bloodmoon Ursaluna be Shiny?

No, unfortunately for Shiny Pokémon Hunters, the Bloodmoon Ursaluna encountered in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC The Teal Mask cannot be Shiny. The encounter is shiny-locked, which means the game will never generate a Shiny Bloodmoon Ursaluna for the boss battle.

Can Bloodmoon Ursaluna be transferred to Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

No, Bloodmoon Ursaluna cannot be sent to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
