CoroCoro and SPP Confirm New MegaEvolutions

The November issue of CoroCoro has leaked and officially revealed/confirmed some Mega Evolutions, the starter’s final evolutions, and more!

Mega Evolutions

  • Mega Gengar – Not an exclusive, gains the ability Shadow Tag but keeps its typing
  • Mega Aggron – Exclusive to Y, becomes pure Steel-type and gains the ability Filter
  • Mega Tyranitar – Exclusive to X and keeps the ability Sand Storm as well as its original typing

 Garchomp Serial Code

In next month’s issue of CoroCoro there’ll be a serial code that will give you access to their special Garchomp. This Garchomp holds a Dragon Fang, knows Crunch, Dragon Claw, Dig and Draco Meteor. The location of its Mega Stone will also be revealed in the next issue – that is, if we don’t find it first.

Thanks to Serebii we now have some new information and pictures of previously unknown evolutions. Details in the spoiler box.

  • Mega Pinsir – Bug/Flying-type and has the ability Aerilate which turns Normal-type moves into Flying-type moves, X exclusive
  • Mega Heracross – Stays Bug/Fighting, has the ability Skill Link, Y exclusive
  • Mega Banette – Stays pure Ghost-type and has the ability Prankster
  • Mega Medicham – Stays Fighting/Psychic and has the ability Pure power

Apparently at some point in the game Professor Sycamore will upgrade your Mega Ring so that it can detect hidden Mega Stones. They are only detectable, however, between 8pm and 9pm.

  3. So with the talk of all these shiny Pokemon being found what is the one Pokemon from this gen that you want to see shiny?
    I want to see a shiny Fennekin with the colors being white and blue to represent the most intense temperatures of flames with white being the hottest. I think the same could apply to it’s evolutions.

    • If you look closely at where it’s battling Salamence – they look about the same size. I think the added bulk makes Tar’s appearance larger when it actually is more-or-less the same size.

    • Not a good exclusive. Aron, the catchable form of the line, Is X exclusive, while Larvitar is Y exclusive, so you will HAVE to trade to get either Mega. And pure Steel with Filter? That means that is technically has no weaknesses, as Filter reduces the damage taken from Super effective attacks. What’s not to love? Will it miss Stab Rock Head Head Smash? Of course, but some people don’t use that move anyway. And besides, it can demolish Fairies at any given moment so that Dragons can clear the field afterwords. I think its cool, but an odd choice of a Pokemon to Mega Evolve, and to give it Tyranitar as a counterpart is also an odd decision, but cool nontheless.

      • I use heavy bomber/heavy metal and i feel that its very useful already, and with fairies running around in gen six it will be even better. not to say it wont be useful and its definitely bad ass, it just wont do my current aggron any good.
        I hope there is way to get exclusive megas on to the opposite game because as it stands right now y version is getting slightly better megas in terms of viability imo

        • Viability?Mega Mewtwo Y is slightly better only due to it’s 140 base speed. Mega Mewtwo X is physical, and has all around better bulk imo. And, a lot of Pokemon in uber are specially defensive and resist it’s stab. Mega Mewtwo X doesn’t have such an issue, and only has to worry about physically bulky Pokemon, which, there aren’t really many of in uber, besides Giratina. I’d go either or, but personally, steadfast and the fighting Stab is what sells me and Mega Mewtwo X.

          Charizard. Mega Charizard Y has Drought, which no longers causes perma sun, which reduces his viability to me. The increased Special attack is nice, but he has a shallow special movepool. Air Slash, Fire Stab, Solar Beam, now weaker, fixed HP Dragon Pulse and Focus Blast. That’s all i can think of. Everything else is physical. I believe Mega Charizard Y has the power advantage amongst the two.

          Mega Charizard x has the type advantage, no long being weak as shit to rock, and now having perfect mono type coverage, as any pure pokemon gets hit neutrally by one of his stabs. And i read that Mega zard X would have base 124-130 attack, which is low to me, because a randomly trained, randomly ev’d Megazard X at lv 53 had 163 atk, so i think their off. I feel it’s more like 145-155 ish, but i could be wrong. And then it’s special attack also goes up, and stays higher than it’s physical attack. To me, that reduces it’s viability heavily, as it should have taken the special attack increase, and increased his bulk instead. I believe Megazard X has type advantage, and ability advantage.

          Mega Aggron and Ttar. Mega Aggron’s typing is great to me, and i never really used Heavy Metal. It seemed to gimmicky to me. I always went with Sturdy or Rock Head. Mostly Sturdy. BUt losing the rock Stab is fine imo, because i never really used it anyway. Having filter is going to be killer, and if his Special defense goes up, he’ll be tank of the gen. Against a Mega Ttar, i think Aggron has the advantage due to Filter and Stab SE Iron Tail.

          TTar gets nerfed so hard with the change to weather effects. Ruins Ninetails imo, and seriously knocks down Hippowdon. I have no idea what changed other than apearance, but, because he embodies his whole line with the larvitar head crest, pupitar face on his chest, and being a ttar, i think his special attack or bulk should go up. I like slow Pokemon, and if a massice bulk or special attack boost requires his speed to drop, then so be it.

          All in all, X has more coverage, and Y has more power. which fits, especially when you look at Xerneas and Yveltal.

  10. Ok, I FINALLY have my team planned out! Took a very, very long time, but I finally got them down! Here they are, the Pokémon itself along with its typing and ability:

    1. Mawile, Steel/Fairy, Intimidate
    2. Greninja, Water/Dark, Torrent
    3. Chandelure, Ghost/Fire, Shadow Tag (assuming Litwick is catchable in hordes)
    4. Dragalge, Poison/Dragon, Poison Point/Poison Touch
    5. Sigilyph, Psychic/Flying, Wonder Skin/Magic Guard
    6. Heliolisk, Electric/Normal, Dry Skin

    Yes, I know that 4 of my party members are weak to Ground, but I believe they can handle themselves. Besides I plan on switching Sigilyph in when my opponent is about to use a ground type move anyway.

      Dragalge! I love that pokemon. Possibly my favorite of the generation!

      Also, I was a bit on the fence with Heliolisk until I saw the mode in action. The neck frills out, reminiscent of the sun. So, another great choice.

      Greninja is a very close second next to Delphox in my book, but I can’t wait to pick him my second game! His design is clever and sleek.

  13. Clefable is Pure Fairy-type

    Serebii just posted this. And Japan not only gets the Garchomp Code, but an Inkay wifi event. It know a knew move roughly translated as HAppy Time.

      • I don’t like that Clefable had it’s type changed. I mean, i expected it, but i don’t like it. And clefable was always different from Jiggles. It has MUCH better bulk and offenses, just lower HP

          • And it still will. With like, base 40 defenses, even a NVE attack can drop wiggles. Sucks too, because i love wigglytuff.

          • Gamefreak needs to fix some base stats….they can’t be this lazy/conservative about it. Flareon’s stats need to be reordered

          • Why? I think the work okay. Physical defense is a bit blah, but what Fire Pokemon besides Torkoal is bulky? Maybe Arcanine. I think it would have been better if Flareon had Flare Blitz and Quick feet. Power is nice, but if you can’t move quick enough to hit, it’s useless.

          • 65 Base HP is terrible even with 110 Special Defense. You are never going to outrun much this gen even with quick feet. And then 65 HP with Flare Blitz !? It might as well have Explosion!

          • Well then, give it Sacred Fire. And with Quick Feet, it at least has a chance of outspeeding somethings. Not all, just some. I know Sacred Fire should be Ho-Oh’s move, but look at Sacred Sword. It could work. Not saying it would skyrocket Flareon out of NU for the first time ever, but it would at least make Flareon less of a joke to some people. I love Flareon, and to see people chastise it because it doesn’t have a lucario sized movepool is ridiculous.

      • It is, Japan just gets treated better because they made the game. At least that’s what I think. Though, when you think about it, Japan gets an art book, stationary, and xerneas/yveltal figures. GAME store customers in europe get the Pokeball case and i belive Pokedex 3D for free. Mexico gives the poster and a white/Black Kyurem pin. And america gets a double sided poster. and it’s difficult to decide which side to hang, because both are boss.

      • To me, Chansey screams Fiary more than Clefable. I think Clefable should have been Pure Psychic, and let Chansey be pure Fairy.

          • Fine by me. To me, Clefable isn’t Fairy. It’s attracted to moon stones, which technically, would be something dark pokemon SHOULD do, as moon, dark, you know? Chansey has that whole giddy Cleric look, and that seems more Fairy like, or magickal to me. While Clefable is the Fairy Pokemon, and in the Fairy egg group, I personally believe that making it fairy is a bad idea. MANY people will disagree with me, but that’s how i feel, and I can’t change that. And, Granbull was also made Pure Fiary. I honestly think Granbull should have always been Fighting. So, when i hear it gets retyped, i hope for Fairy/Fighting. But, Pure Fairy.

            But, on another note, do you think Bellossom will get retyped to Grass/ Fairy?

          • I agree that Chansey and the rest of its evolutionary line should be Fairy-types, but Clefable and it’s line is a definite choice to become Fairy-types. Even it’s Japanese name, Pixy/Pixie, proves how faerie-like it is.
            Dark-types have nothing to do with the moon. Dark-types are Pokémon who fight dirty, as opposed to Fighting-types who play by the rules. The only Dark-type Pokémon that has to do with the moon is Umbreon, and that’s because of its origin.

          • I was thinking of Darkrai, but forgot about it and the whole full moon thing. But, still… that’s also because of its origin, like Umbreon. That doesn’t apply to other Dark-types.
            Dark-types do what they want, rebels and vigilantes! >:]

          • Actually, Darkrai is the representative of the New Moon, which is when the Moon is basically not visible at all.

          • True. But when you think of Dark, in general, do you think of dirty fighters, and tricksters. I don’t. While Clefable’s Japanese name says a lot, I really don’t see what’s so fairy like about it, other than the name. I think Granbull should have stayed normal, or went pure Fighting,too. And don’t even get me started on Mr Mime

          • I ignore the classification sometimes. I mean, does Granbull say fairy to you? I really think the classification on Clefable and Granbull needed to be changed, but, that’s just how i feel. It doesn’t have that.., magickal, spiritual, pixie like look. I mean, the wings maybe, but then wouldn’t every Pokemon with tiny wings fit in with it, like dragonite?

  14. Though we all know this, after beating your rival in kiloude city, they give you an absolite, and then you get sent to sycamore for a mega ring upgrade, so that Mega evolution is possible.

  15. 07:30: The Mega Ring will only react to hidden Mega Stones after 8pm

    Like, what is that supposed to mean? As in, Mega Stones that are found by the player only work at night? Or what? BE MORE SPECIFIC SEREBIII!!!

    • Well, basicaly there is an item that we can use to find hidden Mega stones but evetually we can just use it after 8pm. It means we can use this item to find hidde mega stone with a specific period of time. That’s how I interpret it. ;3

    • no later in the game, you have a feature to FIND hidden mega stones with an updated mega ring… this feature works only after 8 PM

  24. I’m going all out today when it comes to cherishing Gen V’s greatest moments! Today is its last day before Gen VII takes over (internationally for everyone) on Saturday!!! I’ll be listening to its greatest music, re-battling some rivals, do some last minute breeding, battle in the PWT, collect a few shards, talk to some customers in Join Avenue one last time, battle with my bro with our BW/BW2 teams for the last lime before Gen V ends. It’ll be a great day to celebrate the fond memories Gen V had! To finish off the generation for good, I’ll be collecting Shiny Giratina on Saturday when I buy X and Y!!!!

    YES!!!! Pokémon weekend here I come!!!!!
