[UPD2] It seems more leaks are coming any moment, as another leaker has gotten their hands on Corocoro and is uploading some pages. New, clear, and full versions of the scans we’ve seen have now been revealed, though there seems to be more to go.
[UPD1] The PokémonKorea official site has updated with details on a playable demo for XY coming to Korea. In this, they report about the Mega Evolutions. This means that Mega Evolutions are confirmed, and any other information should be taken as real as well.
This month’s issue of Corcoro has begun leaking. With new Pokémon and more! Keep checking back as we update with translations!
On Mega Evolutions
- “Mega” Pokemon; These new supercharged versions of their previous ones are NOT traditional evolutions or forms, but happen through a “Mega Evolution” process.
- Mega evolutions are ONLY accessible during battle.
- A “Megastone” seems to be a collective term for the held items used to Mega-evolve each Pokémon. In the case of Blaziken, its Megastone is called “Blazikenite”.
- One of the gym leaders, Coruni, hold the key to these new Mega-lutions.
- Mega Pokémon have stat changes: Lucario gets an Attack stat boost, whilst Absol gets a boost to both Attack/Speed.
- Unknown what the stat changes for other Mega Pokémon are.
- Mega evolutions seem to awakened temporarily in battle by holding a megastone for some Pokémon.
Getting ‘Mega’ versions are:
- Blaziken (Fire/Fighting, ability: Speed Boost)
- Lucario (Steel/Fighting, ability: Adaptability)
- Ampharos (Electric/DRAGON, ability: Mold Breaker)
- Mawile (Steel/Fairy, ability:Huge Power)
- Mewtwo (Psychic, ability: Insomnia)
- Absol (Dark, ability:Magic Bounce)
- Not all Pokemon will get Mega versions.
More could be revealed!
New Pokémon, Miscellaneous
- Meekuru, a Grass-type Gogoat prevolution has Sap Sipper for ability.
- Horubii, a Normal-type rabbit-ish Pokémon, known as the “Digging” Pokémon has a new ability called “Cheek Pouch,” or Pickup.
- Dedenne, an Electric/Fairy-type Pokémon which is the “Antennae” Pokémon, has a new ability called “Cheek Pouch,” or Pickup.
- Speed Boost Torchic will be distributed with it’s “Mega Stone”; This Speed Boost Torchic with “Blazikenite” Distribution starts from the release date(October 12th) to January 15th, 2014.
- Although cut off, what seems to be Super Training is mentioned! As previous leaks have pointed at, completing these games seems to raise Effort Values for the Pokémon that participate.
- Also mentioned is the Master Tower, which has a connection to Mega Pokémon.
Also confirmed is that next month’s Corocoro is to show even more Mega Evolutions, alongside an updated type chart to show off Fairy-type.

Welp, I absolutely love this. I never thought I’d be on board with something like this, but…well, I am. This is such a neat way to change up old pokemon! I really love the designs too. Ampharos…I mean…just look at those beautiful locks! He’s a rockstar.

I’m so eager to learn how this will work! What will their stats be like? Will it be a reversible change like formes? Will there be version exclusives? Will they be banned form competitive playing like legendaries? So many questions!

All you haters listen up. I’m gonna say this now, and I’m only saying it once. When I saw these mega evolutions, I got 10 times more excited for these games, because unlike all of you, I am a true fan of pokemon. Pokemon are pokemon are pokemon. I’m not saying you have to like every design, but we no next to nothing about this new concept. Give all the hating a rest. And if this truly does make you not want to play pokemon anymore, than you were never really a fan to start with

Well this certainly explains the DNA theme…
Everywhere that “Mega evolution” is written, the text is rainbow colored. Certainly matches the DNA in the japanese logo, the DNA in the protagonists bracelets and the DNA above Mega Mewtwo in the most recent trailer (which looking now probably was a “mega evolution” scene in the middle of battle).
I think you’re on to something. Maybe it wasn’t a move after all, and GF just Foresighted this CoroCoro scan!
How will I have enough room in the PC for all the “Regulars” and all the “Megas”? ;(

My thoughts as a whole:
I like the looks of the megas,
How will this work and affect gameplay?
How many megas will there be? (My main worry is that it will take away from the final evolutions of new pokemon, if it happens to any from gen 6)
Will we get less new pokemon as a result?
I am reaaaally looking forward to getting my hands on X this October! Love the mega blaziken and mawile.
Overall: I have trust in gamefreak, I think the games will be enjoyable no matter what. Pokemon needs to change, maybe we will all/most end up enjoying megas?
Also, I think that the megas will be reversible, maybe. Although that would involve the stones being a hold item…

Zooming into the scan, it confirms Mawile’s type change to Steel/Fairy, not just it’s Mega evolution.

if so then that’s exciting, but it’s too dark to tell whether or not that’s just a part of some other picture, like a part of megaabsol or something (also dang the main thing that bothers me about these is their names, I’m gonna accept them and they’ll probably end up being cool but I wish they didn’t just have ‘mega’ tacked onto their original names, but oh well)
Please keep in mind that these are OPTIONAL! It’s there for people to explore and it won’t hurt giving it a try. Yes, there bound to be similarities between games in the same genre such as Digimon, but I personally love these because they are Pokemon, the ones I grew up with.
You will not say that they are “optional” when they start to appear in competitive play.

Guys, mega-evolution is not necessarily a evolution per se. You can only do it during battle. I’m suspecting you hold it like an eviolite.

So it’s like a held item that switches “formes” of a pokemon?
Like Blaziken holds a Blaziken Knight and goes into a battle, upon which it switches “formes” into MegaBlaziken?
I’m assuming so. I don’t know what the Megastone does, but it seems that all these weird held items are connected in some way, and they hold the keys to this mega-evolution.
now the question is whether the held items will be available in game or whether they’ll be event only….
If is an item how will that work for strategy eg hold a choice item etc. Maybe their stats are to good for items. Well we will find out soon.

I kinda guess they’ll have some drawbacks too. Well, they’re trying hard for balancing what with fairy-type and typing retcons.
You wont be able to give them items, probably, as you need them to hold the mega stone to become Mega.
I think that it would be good to have it as a hold item just to make it fair
I think it’s quite a smart decision in terms of comp.
I hope they’re limited to main storyline and gameplay.

I don’t see why people are hating on this so much, it’s an interesting idea and I for one can’t wait to see it utilized. This fanbase needs to stop being so against change, seriously.
Just as Pokemon evolve, the franchise too, must evolve and improve.
