[UPD2] It seems more leaks are coming any moment, as another leaker has gotten their hands on Corocoro and is uploading some pages. New, clear, and full versions of the scans we’ve seen have now been revealed, though there seems to be more to go.
[UPD1] The PokémonKorea official site has updated with details on a playable demo for XY coming to Korea. In this, they report about the Mega Evolutions. This means that Mega Evolutions are confirmed, and any other information should be taken as real as well.
This month’s issue of Corcoro has begun leaking. With new Pokémon and more! Keep checking back as we update with translations!
On Mega Evolutions
- “Mega” Pokemon; These new supercharged versions of their previous ones are NOT traditional evolutions or forms, but happen through a “Mega Evolution” process.
- Mega evolutions are ONLY accessible during battle.
- A “Megastone” seems to be a collective term for the held items used to Mega-evolve each Pokémon. In the case of Blaziken, its Megastone is called “Blazikenite”.
- One of the gym leaders, Coruni, hold the key to these new Mega-lutions.
- Mega Pokémon have stat changes: Lucario gets an Attack stat boost, whilst Absol gets a boost to both Attack/Speed.
- Unknown what the stat changes for other Mega Pokémon are.
- Mega evolutions seem to awakened temporarily in battle by holding a megastone for some Pokémon.
Getting ‘Mega’ versions are:
- Blaziken (Fire/Fighting, ability: Speed Boost)
- Lucario (Steel/Fighting, ability: Adaptability)
- Ampharos (Electric/DRAGON, ability: Mold Breaker)
- Mawile (Steel/Fairy, ability:Huge Power)
- Mewtwo (Psychic, ability: Insomnia)
- Absol (Dark, ability:Magic Bounce)
- Not all Pokemon will get Mega versions.
More could be revealed!
New Pokémon, Miscellaneous
- Meekuru, a Grass-type Gogoat prevolution has Sap Sipper for ability.
- Horubii, a Normal-type rabbit-ish Pokémon, known as the “Digging” Pokémon has a new ability called “Cheek Pouch,” or Pickup.
- Dedenne, an Electric/Fairy-type Pokémon which is the “Antennae” Pokémon, has a new ability called “Cheek Pouch,” or Pickup.
- Speed Boost Torchic will be distributed with it’s “Mega Stone”; This Speed Boost Torchic with “Blazikenite” Distribution starts from the release date(October 12th) to January 15th, 2014.
- Although cut off, what seems to be Super Training is mentioned! As previous leaks have pointed at, completing these games seems to raise Effort Values for the Pokémon that participate.
- Also mentioned is the Master Tower, which has a connection to Mega Pokémon.
Also confirmed is that next month’s Corocoro is to show even more Mega Evolutions, alongside an updated type chart to show off Fairy-type.

I would have loved the Mega Pokemon thing IF they didn’t include the starter pokemon. But come on, has it really come to a point where a normal evolution just doesn’t cut it anymore? I have loved every reveal so far, except this. :/

I though at first the English Pokemon community was freaking out much more than other langauges’ fans, but it looks like its only the same handful of people yelling really loud.

Also, it has Speedboost. Now it is 100% OVERPOWERED.

Blaziken, Mawile, Absol all getting MegaEvos… At least this will add an awesome mechanic to the eventual Gen III remakes!

One thing that I’ll definitely love about these Mega Pokemon will be the intricate designs (especially now that they’re 3D)
Have to say when I saw these on Serebii, I was excited and actually gasped because of how epic these look (even though they’re only on paper)
Tbh, I do think this fan base is extremely whiny, I’m one of those fans that accepts everything GameFreak will do because like pokemon, they’re just trying to evolve and come up with fresh new ideas to keep everybody entertained
Yeah I agree, this should be pretty interested. Just as long as Pokemon stays approachable to new fans (ie. it doesn’t get super complicated), I’m happy 🙂
I’m pretty sure it’ll be a held item so Megas online don’t get too OP (MegaBlaziken w/Speed Boost + Life Orb/Choice Band, heck no)

You think the pokemon community is whiny? This is tame compared to the metal community XD But I’m astounded by this development. It’s new, kind of cool and has made me actually want to have a Mawile.
Many fans are stuck in the past but can be sadly louder than us rational fans. That’s why us fans have to stick together and make our voices heard. 🙂
Dude, I’m glad that you enjoy them, but don’t say that the fan base is whiny and doesn’t accept GameFreak’s choices. Believe me when I say that I am as big a Pokemon fan as they come. I own all of the games and play them all the time, know most everything there is to know, and love the hell out of it, but I’m skeptical of this. I’m still going to buy and love X and Y, however this is a confusing move. If they only do Blaziken, that will be a mistake, because it unbalances everything. They are favoring one of the starters which is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the point of starters is. It’s supposed to be picking the on you like most from 3 equals, and if this doesn’t come to all the other starters then it is like GameFreak is trying to make Torchic the most unique and coolest. With that said, I don’t want to see a Charizard mega-evolution because Charizard is my favorite. If there is something above Charizard in the same line, then it is almost insulting (almost) to Charizard.
I guess what I’m saying is that skepticism is natural, and saying that people who are not fully on board yet are “whiny” and not as accepting as you, and insinuating to the fullest extent that they are below you is totally uncalled for and rude. And if that makes me not a “true Pokemon fan” as people have been saying, then sue me.
I apologize for taking this all out on you, haha. It just seems like everyone who is commenting is saying “If you aren’t fully on board, you are wrong.”
Imagine this, though: Charizard losing his hindering flying-type, then gaining his well-deserved dragon-type through MegaEvolution. Also, a Water/Steel MegaBlastoise would sound pretty boss, too, no? And the “less-desirable” starter evos (from a competitive point of view), like Meganium or Samurott or Typhlosion. MegaMeganium, Grass/rock or grass/bug, MegaSamurott, Water/Fighting, MegaTyphlosion, Fire/Ground… Wouldn’t that be awesome?
I’ve become more on board with the idea as we’ve learned more about it, and yes, a grass/bug MegaMaganium would be really cool. But why on Earth would Meganium be grass/rock? Haha, and Typhlosion Fire/Ground? umm… Yes, adding better types would be cool, but I just had to disagree with the ones you suggested, sorry.
It would be awesome, assuming they are fair and do it to all of the starters. Just imagine if they made Mega Charizard and Mega Blastoise…. but didn’t make Mega Venusaur, That is my biggest concern. It wouldn’t really be fair and it takes out the fun in starters, being you can pick your favorite and they have the same total stats and none are favored in the game.
For that matter, I wish they would give ALL Pokemon mega-evolutions, because it makes the ones that don’t get mega-evos less desirable than the ones that do. I know that some pokemon are better stat wise, but in game that would never stop me from using, say Altaria. However, Mega-evolution is clearly a feature that I’m going to wants to use, and if Altaria doesn’t get one that it makes her lame in comparison. I don’t know, I’m excited, but I see a good chance that GameFreak will start playing favorites if that makes sense.

Well this is kinda weird.. I’m not necessarily against mega evolutions, but I don’t think blaziken, lucario, or ampharos really need them. And mega lucario looks like it was fused with giratina.

okay. come to think of it, it’s just alright. now i’m all okay with this. a little change wouldn’t hurt. well, if you don’t want them, then don’t use them. 🙂
I believe all starters and pseudo-legendaries will get Mega Form. It would be nice for them to make all legendaries get the Mega Forms too, but a guy can dream…
when i first saw this i was in total shocked wishing that they were fake. but now that i calmed down i see that this system has potential. it is not worth quitting pokemon for. at the end of day it is still the same pokemon when you think about. it may take months for people to get use to this but with this system pokemon has got more interesting. people who say they won’t buy the game because of this most like will buy it. it sad people are getting upset and treating to leave pokemon because more pokemon are getting more forms.

Could this show why the game card data is much larger then we expect? My thoughts are with this new evolution, this could be why the data is much larger then we usually see.
It’s the first time that I comment on a Pokemon themed website, but I’ve always been checking Serebii, Poke Jungle, etc. And, well, I’m disappointed with this for many reasons!
First for a “big scoop” the information was too small!
Second, I really enjoyed Mewtwo’e new form because I really like Giratina and although I like “MegaLucario” I think that the concept is stupid because it drives away from what Pokemon is! I love all generations and I was enjoying this new generation because it was starting to be pretty awesome, but now with this new feature it’s just plain stupid!
This information is stupid because I’m a huge Pokemon fan and I’ve been following the Pokemon franchise almost since the beginning and I’m all in favor of new ideas, but this disregards many things that should have been done!
Gamefreak should star listening to some of the fans ideas!

The leaks are not over. This is not all. We are days behind of when the actual magazine is confirmed. There will be more, they are just in the process of sorting the real/fake information and translating what they can. Give them some time.
We should be getting the starters 1st evolutions soon.

Every generation has its “Pikachu”. I assume that this is the case with this Pokemon.
