[UPD2] It seems more leaks are coming any moment, as another leaker has gotten their hands on Corocoro and is uploading some pages. New, clear, and full versions of the scans we’ve seen have now been revealed, though there seems to be more to go.
[UPD1] The PokémonKorea official site has updated with details on a playable demo for XY coming to Korea. In this, they report about the Mega Evolutions. This means that Mega Evolutions are confirmed, and any other information should be taken as real as well.
This month’s issue of Corcoro has begun leaking. With new Pokémon and more! Keep checking back as we update with translations!
On Mega Evolutions
- “Mega” Pokemon; These new supercharged versions of their previous ones are NOT traditional evolutions or forms, but happen through a “Mega Evolution” process.
- Mega evolutions are ONLY accessible during battle.
- A “Megastone” seems to be a collective term for the held items used to Mega-evolve each Pokémon. In the case of Blaziken, its Megastone is called “Blazikenite”.
- One of the gym leaders, Coruni, hold the key to these new Mega-lutions.
- Mega Pokémon have stat changes: Lucario gets an Attack stat boost, whilst Absol gets a boost to both Attack/Speed.
- Unknown what the stat changes for other Mega Pokémon are.
- Mega evolutions seem to awakened temporarily in battle by holding a megastone for some Pokémon.
Getting ‘Mega’ versions are:
- Blaziken (Fire/Fighting, ability: Speed Boost)
- Lucario (Steel/Fighting, ability: Adaptability)
- Ampharos (Electric/DRAGON, ability: Mold Breaker)
- Mawile (Steel/Fairy, ability:Huge Power)
- Mewtwo (Psychic, ability: Insomnia)
- Absol (Dark, ability:Magic Bounce)
- Not all Pokemon will get Mega versions.
More could be revealed!
New Pokémon, Miscellaneous
- Meekuru, a Grass-type Gogoat prevolution has Sap Sipper for ability.
- Horubii, a Normal-type rabbit-ish Pokémon, known as the “Digging” Pokémon has a new ability called “Cheek Pouch,” or Pickup.
- Dedenne, an Electric/Fairy-type Pokémon which is the “Antennae” Pokémon, has a new ability called “Cheek Pouch,” or Pickup.
- Speed Boost Torchic will be distributed with it’s “Mega Stone”; This Speed Boost Torchic with “Blazikenite” Distribution starts from the release date(October 12th) to January 15th, 2014.
- Although cut off, what seems to be Super Training is mentioned! As previous leaks have pointed at, completing these games seems to raise Effort Values for the Pokémon that participate.
- Also mentioned is the Master Tower, which has a connection to Mega Pokémon.
Also confirmed is that next month’s Corocoro is to show even more Mega Evolutions, alongside an updated type chart to show off Fairy-type.

I for one had my mind blown by the revelation of Mega Evolutions. “Scoop of the century” sounds pretty damn accurate to me.
Yes it was something unexpected but it wasn’t that big of a deal or that awesome to be called “the scoop of the century” for 3 Pokemon and Mega Evolutions and one gym leader.
As much as I agree with you, three new Pokemon, one gym leader and 5 new Pokemon that are a rip-off of Digimon really doesn’t live up to my original thoughts. My mind was blown as well, I gotta be honest, but it wasn’t amazing. I think we all knew GF and Nintendo were going to add some twist to battling in Gen VI, like Triple/Rotation Battles in Gen V and Double Battles in Gen III. We got barely any info on the new Gym Leader, no new NPC’s, no info on Team Flare, no info on the game’s storyline, no info that makes me wanna say “DAMN! I WANT THESE GAMES SO FRIGGIN’ BAD!”
Even if these Mega Evolutions weren’t introduced, I would still buy Pokemon X/Y, so for me, Mega Evolutions are like a type of free DLC that I may/may not use, depending on how useful they are.

Well, I’m glad it is real! Also, I’m more happy because it is just temporary and it it will not last forever! So, Pokemon “nerfed” it quite well! Mega Pokemon don’t bother me! I enjoy them and think there designs are cool! Yet I wish Mawile and Absol got proper evolutions! So, hopefully more info on Mega Pokemon is shown! (P.S. PokeJungle staff, the Mobile PokeJungle is very glitchy! It crashs almost everytime I go on it! Needs a bit of a update!)

well, we still don’t have a HQ version of the Blaziken Page, nor the one alongside it, if it’s even Pokemon related, though it should be.
The one next to the Blaziken page, we don’t know what’s on that one, do I have that right? Does this mean potentially more new Pokémon, maybe Orotto or something?

When it meant by “scoop of the century” it meant by something that is big and unheard of. The Mega Evolutions seem more accurate to that statement.
Particularly because I don’t think I heard of this being in ANY so called rumor. The only tipoff we had was Mewtwo, but even that was just thought to be a forme. That’s actually somewhat amazing that this didn’t leak out AT ALL. Well, until Corocoro, but you know what I mean.

Well, I’m gonna be heading off to bed now. It’s getting late and I’m tired. Lol. It was so much fun discussing with everyone today! I’m glad that this has finally been cleared up and I hope that we learn more about the meaning of these Megamon in the future and maybe Game Freak has a secret purpose of awesomeness behind these creatures, like a Shadow Pokemon concept or something. Personally, the best news out of all of this was the three new “simple” Pokemon which are the hamster, bunny, and Gogoat pre-evolution. I love all three of them to death! The total of Non-Mega Evolutions for Generation VI is now up to 29! 😀 Mega evolutions are still trying to get into my brain. But I know with time, I and most people that are hesitant about the idea will get used to it over time. It happens with all generations. But this generation I do admit is different. Mega Evolutions, One gym leader, and 3 Pokemon is not the “scoop of the century” in my opinion. They really over-exaggerated.
Maybe a little. But they DID reveal a never before even hinted at feature to the game. They actually told us something we didn’t suspect. That alone should be worth some points.

Well, I guess the Mega evolutions are something revolutionary and something no one expected. Still, I had hoped for more new pokemon/characters/game mechanics.
I think using those words were just a case of dooming themselves to fail in expectations. Like anytime someone claims they are making the next great epic movie or something. But I mean… what WOULD be a scoop of the century? Spontaneously revealing every Pokemon, type charts? In the end it’s just stuff to sell magazines.
Perhaps Mega Evolutions are a way to correct past mistakes (i.e. missed opportunity to make Luxray Electric/Dark, so maybe it’s Mega Evolution will be Electric/Dark) without changing the pokemon permanently.
You guys don’t seem to get how marketing works.

Gen 5 hardly introduced new game mechanics (other than hidden abilities, I can’t think of anything relevant) and everybody seemed to hate it.
Now Gen 6 is bringing a lot of cool surprises and everyone is complaining!!

I’ve even seen people who have made fakemon very similar to real Pokemon and then complained that the new Pokemon wasn’t inventive or creative at all… While never even remembering they came up with a similar design.

I don’t know. Megaevolutions make Pokemon seem much more like Digimon. I’m definitely an anti-‘genwunner’, but the fact is that this change isn’t really that needed. All of the former Pokemon do pretty well (bar Mawile) without a ‘Mega Evolution’.
It just seems cheesy, gimmicky, and disturbing an increasingly delicate balance of games. Whereas baby Pokemon were just the former two, these things sound more and more like GF is trying to attract the young fanbase more and more exclusively – as in, hey, look, your Blaziken will become MEGABLAZIKEN. That’s MEGA COOL!
The one saving grace is that it’s temporary. That helps the case by a lot. I have to reserve judgement until I know all the “Mega” evolution’s facts, but I hope GameFreak knows very, very well what they’re attempting to do with this new development – possibly disturbing the thin, thin line between older competitive and younger casual gamers that so beautifully exists perhaps only in the Pokemon games.
As I saw someone comment earlier this is their way of giving evolutions to Pokemon without “ruining their precious souls.”
What do you know is needed? I really doubt you make marketing decisions for Game Freak.
They decided that new gimmicks are needed for the innovation of the series. It’s simply a new feature. Likewise, even if what you say is true, there’s nothing wrong with that. Pokemon is a series that has lived way past its expiration date. The longer a series is alive, the harder it is to sustain it’s survival. That younger generation is very needed to keep Pokemon alive.
I dunno what this ‘beautiful thin line’ you speak of, because the players of Pokemon are very finely segregated. You are taking this very, very seriously considering Pokemon is, in fact, just a marketed video game franchise. The series has done worse with its gimmicks.
You don’t decide what GameFreak does, so I don’t see why people think they can judge their decisions. Pokemon was always meant for the younger audience anyway, enough that I was surprised with the dark turn they took with B/W storyline. If you dislike the feature, that’s fine, but there’s no reason to take your feelings farther than that. Don’t use the feature if you dislike it.

I’m definitely not attempting to claim that I know ANYWHERE what is needed for this franchise or not. I’m not the correct person, nor is any one person important enough for that.
Perhaps fans will love this Mega evolution gimmick. That’s fine. That’s their own opinion.
The ‘line’ is that Pokemon plays like two games; a young player can easily pick it up in-game and after he’s finished, he can move onto the competitive side and continue playing it. It’s a really nice process. The problem is, appealing to one side or the other tends to alienate the opposite. And so far, Pokemon has done a pretty well job preventing this.
I think it’s definitely in my grounds, however, to place my own opinion into the conversation on what I think could be a monumental change. I admit, like earlier, that I – just like you or anyone else – don’t know anything else about the feature. And so we should all reserve our final judgement.
As for opinions, controversial or not, all fans have a right to say their own. That’s what fans do, after all.
I’m not seeing the line being crossed here. Nothing has really changed so far. The new feature is more of a gimmick but it does not appeal to a specific set of fans…just because it looks ‘mega-cool’.
Your own opinion is one thing. I simply don’t believe that fans should have opinions on what GameFreak is doing with their franchise. The gimmicks themselves are up for discussion. The gimmick IS real and IS in game, so there isn’t much any fan can do about that…no matter how negative that fan can try to be (generally speaking of course).
I do agree, however, that some Pokemon got significant boosts despite not deserving them (especially Blaziken omg), and I don’t really understand their motive for doing so. However, this may simply be a gameplay gimmick, and even not allowed at -all- in competitive play.
If anything, I’m happy Absol got the Magic Bounce ability. I love that ability so much. =D
Well let’s agree to disagree here. I think that fans absolutely have the right to put their own opinions into games, which, after all, will be sold to THEM. Many game franchises have been changed because of fan input. But, whatever. That’s another discussion.
In other words, that Absol is SICK. It looks like a Valkyrie. One of the best, simplest, totally keeping-in-line with the original Pokemon designs I’ve seen. That artwork has me excited for other Pokemon.
