September CoroCoro Leaking [UPD]

Following the soft reveal of a blurry Lycanroc Dusk Form on the front cover, pages from Japanese comic magazine, CoroCoro, have begun to leak and contain information about the new form!

UPDATE: We finally have clearer images of the CoroCoro leaks and can confirm the following info:

  • There will be a “Special Rockruff” distribution for Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon from launch day until January 10th, 2018
  • Confirmation that Lycanroc Dusk Form cannot be obtained through normal gameplay and seems to be tied to events
  • Dusk Form Lycanroc is pure Rock-type
  • When evolving into Dusk Form, Lycanroc can learn both Counter and Accelrock – which were previously Midnight and Midday form exclusives respectively
  • It can have the ability Tough Claws, which boosts the power of contact moves by 30%

  1. Would be a bold move by GF if Pokemon Switch is going to be gen 8. Something tells me they’re going to go with an existing region, expand it significantly to give it that open-world feeling because they want to see how the system handles Pokemon first.

    • Something tells me its going to be Generation 8. Open-world concept is rather different for Pokemon to implement. Going seemingly traditional, but pulling elements from titles such as Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero: Dawn would allow for some open-world elements to utilized. Basically, more branching paths, larger environments, and more rewards.

    • you think they will take it that far with switch? my guess is just normal pokemon game with good graphics. there really doesnt need to be much more after that, and i didnt think people expected this much more. If anything i think they would try to be like colosseum/xd style graphics but better of course not move to open-world. just cuz zelda did it does it mean pokemon needs to also lol

    • My dogs fight but it’s mostly playful, if very noisy. I don’t like it when they bite each others throats though, or drag each other by the neck. Anyway hope yours are OK and can be sorted out.

        • Well just remember it is what dogs do, sometimes they get a bit rough and there’s not alot you can do about it except separate and train them. Don’t feel bad about it yourself.

          • What breed are they? Dogs can be trained out of certain behaviours. Of course it could be to do with the breed or the dogs mental state, perhaps there is some reason for their behaviour that you have yet to discover?

          • If you can’t train them out of it it may be best to keep them separated, hard as that may be. Unfortunate decisions may be ahead but both of their well-beings are at stake. Sorry to hear of your troubles with them, I hope it can be resolved for the best.

    • My old friend had three dogs. The one was a lab the other a pitt and the third a bulldog . None of the messed with the lab as she was the head of the pack in the house, but when she got old the pitt would attack her and try to maintain power over her. So maybe the same thing might be happening with your pups? They ended up having to get rid of the pitt cause the lab was too old to defend herself. Hope you can figure out.

  14. i wonder if they will find a way to prevent new pokemon files thru the creation of multiple profiles. idk something tells me they will find a way around it, otherwise i cant wait to be able to play a game multiple times without fear of having to delete data.

    • I don’t think they’ll ever allow for more than one save file. I mean look at Zelda BOTW. Even it doesn’t allow for more than one save. Sure they’re different developers, but if Aonuma isn’t willing to do it why would GF? The closest we’ll get to multiple saves is the ability to have different accounts on the Switch. If you want to play a Pokemon game over then you have to create a new Switch account to do so. That’s likely how it’ll be.

      • thats what i meant. profiles = switch accounts. cant you just make a new profile on your switch and play zelda? i know people who do this due to sharing a system. its like the wiiu. if two people share a wiiu, you create 2 profiles for each person and this allow for different files for games

        • Ooooh sorry I must have glossed over you saying that. then in that case we’re on the same page lol But yeah the only way to play thorugh the same Pokemon game will likely be by making a new Switch account. So if someone wants to play whatever gen 8 is more than 8 times then they’ll be in trouble hahaha

  15. You know what? the more I look at it the more I actually like Lycanroc Dusk. I find it way more interesting than Midday and the fact that it appears to have a mix of both Midday and Midnight’s move sets makes it way more attractive. Plus it’s got Tough Claws as an ability which isn’t bad at all. I even think the motif is a bit more interesting as well. Being evolved by what appears to be a different way than just during the day or at night could be interesting.

      • Idk. They may be giving away Rockruff in an event, but you’d still need a way IN game to cause the evolution to dusk form. Otherwise they’d just give away dusk form and not Rockruff. It may have a Z move, but we’ll just have to see about that.

        • dusk form is the name, inb4 dusk stone evolution lol. altho highly unlikely. tbh tho it wouldve been nice to call the sequels just Pokemon Dawn and Pokemon Dusk. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon still seems odd to me. its just different

          • Seeing how Dusk Stone is called Darkness Stone (or relating to darkness) in Japanese, it isnt likely. I think that Rockruff will be only way. Which sucks. We already have mythical Pokemon why do we need mythical evolutions too??

          • I think it will be like Zorua and Zoroark. First game requires event to have them, then after this they will some sort of method

    Idk if you guys have seen it yet or not but Im posting it and I have some comments
    #1. I know they werent asked about USUM, but seriously NOTHING on USUM?? Im really starting to feel like its like them getting a little bit of cash, but their main focus is Pokemon Switch. USUM will be just be lifeless.
    #2. When they say things are going to be different, I hope they mean it. Like BOTW. I know they wont/cant make it like that, but as open world as it can be. Im gonna be so mad if it just looks the same as past 3d games
    #3. Why did they look at the same type of comments asking for open world? Look at the other ones like “Where’s the BF!?” or “Do we get any Post game??”
    #4. In response to that 40 hourish. They hesitated. I dont like the sound of that. I know 40 hours is a long time, and probably unrealistically long (depending on the person) for a pokemon game. I wish they could do something 40 hourish. That would be BEAUTIFUL!
    #5. They said they look at reviews and their feedback, but do they care? Sure you can hear to people, but you dont have to listen to it. I just want to know what extend do they listen

      • They’re only 40+ with post game.
        BW2 were deep games pre and post main game. More than Platinum. Why don’t you include BW2?
        ORAS with delta, mirage and sidequests is close to 40 depending on how quick a game is played. Atm im 50+ having just completed delta episode.
        Can’t comment on XY. BW from memory had a huge main game but post game included I’d say easily over 30/35.

        • Except the post games are tiny ever since black and white 2. Mirage spots don’t even come close to what Gen 4 and B2W2 had. They’re getting lazier and making their fan base lazier by not trusting them to keep playing the game

      • SM alone took me 55 hours until end credits. I don’t think 40 hours is that unobtainable.

        It really feels like they’re doing everything they can PR-wise to kill hype for their upcoming games.

    • ok seriously, i agree botw was a great game trust me i really do, but can we not compare everything to botw. I dont think botw can be “the standard” for every video game nintendo makes from now on. we havent even gotten some of the good games that arent botw. i get it, its nice to have the open world and freedom and it looks like mario odyssey will be somewhat open world as well. i just dont think it can work for pokemon. remember pokemon is short for pocket monsters because of the fact that the systems pokemon games were on were handhelds and could fit in your pocket and therefore you had monsters in your pocket. the switch cannot really do this. but i just dont see how pokemon can make such a giant transition. Zelda for the most part has always had a level of freedom in games. you were able to go wherever you wanted, in OoT there were places like Lon Lon Ranch where you could get epona which i dont believe was required. in twilight princess there was a lot of freedom in terms of just a lot of area and i think you could do the last few dungeons in the order you want (not 100% positive on this) and then we had skyward sword which had you fly on a loftwing and thee were small floating islands you could explore. so there has been this level of freedom which eventually led to botw level open world and freedom. Pokemon isnt the same. if they are going to do it there needs to be some sort of transition. maybe allow us to do the gyms in any order we want which can sorta be utilized by the new system of hms sun and moon introduced. it doesnt seem hard to make this happen or something of the like. bw2 was a perfect transition to x and y. the buildings became more 3d as well as a lot of the areas like the bridges and gyms and constant movement of pokemon battles that slowly evolved (pun intended) over pokemon games. i just dont see anything there yet. there is so much a switch game can bring and im sooo excitied to find out but lets see what usum brings to the table in terms of being the last 3ds game. i totally didnt think about it but technically the switch is still handheld but i would love to see a main game pokemon game on tv as a main game version of colosseum and xd. I know this is too longbut thanks for taking the time to read

      • While I don’t agree that Pokemon couldn’t work in an open world format, I definitely agree that BotW shouldn’t be held as the standard for every game. Of course, anyone can hope for that, but expecting Pokemon Switch to be an open world MMO experience is unrealistic. Just give me a core Pokemon experience that’s a lot more fleshed out than the 3DS games and we’re golden.

          • I actually think an open world Pokemon could work really well, but it’s unfair to expect it of GF for Pokemon Switch.

          • I feel the same (but not about open world), but I’ve heard people on other sites claiming that they fully expect a huge MMO for the next game. While that’s unrealistic to expect, I don’t think it’s too much to want a game that’s more detailed and has more content than the 3DS games. SM were fantastic games until you hit the post game, where not only was there not enough content, it was lacking in some unexpected areas (not all mega stones, no national dex, etc). If it just had a little more fuel to keep me going and fixed some issues (ugh festival plaza), then I think it could easily be my favorite game of the series, but as it stands it’s just so bare bones. I was hoping USUM would be the fix that I desired, but at this point I don’t know.

            Whew, sorry for that tangent.

      • I was comparing it to BoTW because that’s the most recent open world thing everyone talks about. I know it cant be as great as Botw and it won’t be. But I mean in open world aspect how open world can it be. Personally idk if I would like a massive open world because open world games aren’t good to me. But I do want to notice clear difference between past games and this game.
        The BOTW comparison was mainly used to show the difference between past and recent games graphically and open wprldy wise. Probably wasn’t the best because I don’t even know what game came before BOTW, but everyone said BOTW was so innovative, so I want Pokemon to be like that.

    • 1. Pokemon Switch interview, I don’t know why people here expected US/UM to be mentioned; but I do agree with the lack of info on the game.
      2. They’re going to try their best to utilize the Switch to the fullest!
      3. The interviewer likely selected the comments.
      4. Their not making a Pokemon game that’s 40 hours long.
      5. Every developer looks at feedback. You cannot continue to make games without knowing how your fans feel! They obviously can’t do everything fans want (like the fans that want all seven regions in one game), but they’ll take reasonable suggestions.

  21. Imo they’re following a bad marketing strategy. What’s the point on announcing a switch game when you have just announced a 3ds game that would need all the attention because it’a a sequel not really (yet) appreciated? Why do you release an interview on a game that will be out in one or two years when you have a game that will be out in 3 months and that at the moment is not that appreciated because of the lack of informations?

      • They are working on these games (usum) since sun & moon were announced so there’s no way they just cancel them. The point is: if you have to promote two new games, promote and focus on them. This switch thing simply distracted everyone fron usum and this is bad for them imo. People are looking for a switch console for next year while Gf shoud motivate them to keep their eyes on buying a game for a console they will not use anymore next year.

    • This exactly! Unless USUM turn out to be some kind of amazing thing we never expected (I doubt it) then this will have been a huge mistake. They might as well have taken the year off and focused entirely on the Switch game

    • To add to that: the announcement of USUM provoked concerns among some fans that the games would be cash grab rehashes, and what do they do to calm the fans? Wait two months for the cement to dry, and then announce something that gives the fans even more reason to worry.

      • Feels like they are hurting the image of the brand more than by just waiting to announce the Switch game and releasing nothing else. I fear they underestimated the demand for a Switch installment and had to change development abruptly to focus on Switch, neglecting USUM.

        • I say the other way around. I think that development was mostly focused on Switch after SM, but due to the initial success of the Switch, Nintendo told them to hold off on the Switch game to beef up the 2018/2019 line-up, since stock issues are expected to persist through already high demand this year. So, instead of focusing this extra time on developing Pokemon SW, they’re now scrambling to push out another 3DS title this year to fill the gap, using already made SM assets.

  23. GameFreak fucking itself over: the timeline

    March 2017: Switch is released
    June 2017: Ultra Sun and Moon announced. Only 20 second of footage, never explains what the games are. Still on 3DS. Retailers list them as Switch games by mistake. Everyone hates it.
    June 2017: No information on USUM
    July 2017: Switch game announced. No info on USUM
    August 2017: Dusk Lycanrock revealed. Looks extremely similar to Mid Day leading to more fans thinking these games are cashgrabs with minimal effort put into them
    August 2017: GameFreak does a terrible interview that makes fans worry for not only USUM but the Switch version too. No information on USUM

      • The problem imo is that they cannot follow a proper marketing line. They litterally bombed us with information for sun & moon. Now it’s been two months of nothing apart for that lycanroc that has not even a different 3d model than the midday form…What’s their problem? August has always been the month of huge reveal (Mega evolution, Z moves and Alola forms). This month? Pokenki and dusk form…We don’t even have the box art

          • Also I’m worried about how little UltraSM info we have gotten, but I’m expecting more at worlds. If there is nothing at worlds I will be worried even more

        • I disagree. A standard RPG is between 22-26 hours excluding some obvious longer titles.

          You should be keeping your expectations low. You got fans wanting a massive open-world game, which GameFreak is kinda obviously not making.

          They’re answers seemed confident. Why would seasoned developers all of a sudden be worried for just moving hardware?

          Also, it was an interview about the Switch Pokemon Game. Of course their not going to mention US/UM.

    • Why would fans worry? It was a solid interview. I can’t image their excitement to finally be able to work on a system with some power behind it!

      Why does everyone act like they weren’t working on this Switch title earlier? They literally hired a more staff in March with PS Vita and Wii U experience for a new Pokemon game. Development for the Switch Pokemon title likely started in 2015. That interview only provided some context towards the Switch title.
