[UPD] October CoroCoro Leaking

Well, it looks like this is it! After patiently waiting for Japanese comic magazine CoroCoro to leak it is finally here! Peep the images below.

Translations:

  • NEW Rockruff’s evolution’s forms are version exclusive
  • NEW Day Rugarugan’s signature move is called Accelerock (or Accel Rock) which is a priority move described as “a flashing strike”
  • NEW Night Rugarugan’s signature move is Counter which is glamorized with the flavor text “a fierce strikeback”
  • NEW It seems these are not simple day/night evolutions but are a reflection of the powers that reside in Alola; Solgaleo in Pokémon Sun (Midday form) and Lunaala in Pokémon Moon (Midnight form)
  • Rockruff’s evolution is called Rugarugan (ルガルガン). CoroCoro is very vague on Rugarugan, though it appears that it may change form during day and night, and it is not simply a split evolution.
  • Two new Ultra Beasts are revealed, UB02 Beauty (shown in Pokémon Moon) and UB02 Expansion (shown in Pokémon Sun)
  • The new anime series is called Pokemon: Sun & Moon and will start in November. Since there is no league in the Alola Region Ash’s goal in this season will be to graduate from school.
  • Next month’s issue will reveal the true strength of Type: Null

  1. So Rockruff and its evo might very well be the first Rock types, thats more relying on speed rather than brute force. Or am I forgetting one?

  2. You guys the forms are more than likely NOT version exclusive… I’m pretty positive the corocoro is just highlighting the unique differences between sun and moon. Since you are more likely to be playing Sun while it is day time in game then you’re more likely to receive midday form. Whereas you’re more likely to be playing while it is night in-game in moon, therefore midnight form is more prevelant.
I just don’t see them being version exclusives. Otherwise they wouldn’t evolve based on time of day but rather based on version and that’s not how it’s evolution mechanic was explained

    • I’m currently getting clarification on the phrasing used in CoroCoro.

To me it seems weird to have two evolutions that are clearly inspired by the time of day, but to have them locked to one version. That’d mean Rockruff simply doesn’t evolve if it reaches evolution level in one game because it’s the wrong time of day.

        • Sun & Moon are set 12 hours apart, from what we know there is a day and night time in both games.

We’re just not 100% sure on how Rockruff works, because of the way CoroCoro has worded it. 🙂

          I’ll update ASAP!

    • 100% version exclusive I’m afraid. “Evolution forms differ completely depending on Pokémon Sun or Pokemon Moon”.
Later on the text suggests it’s related to the respective sun and moon legendaries.

  3. If the starter pokemon might get spilt evolution like whar rockruff’s evo is, then perhaps each spilt represents sun and moon respectively. If we look at the supposed leak for the final evo, then both litten and rowelt final evo look like the sun, at least face wise, while poplio final evo looks like a Cresent moon.

Maybe we can expect the other spilt evo to look like a Cresent moon for litten and rowelt, and a sun for poplio.

    But we will see.

  4. A priority Rock Move? That’s all I needed to hear
I hope it translates to Rock Rush

And since sun is going to be my main I need not to worry about evolution

  5. I was kinda hoping that they would change form. Like day during the day and night during the night. But this is cool too.
Wait. If you trade them to the opposite game, will they stay their form?

  6. Why would they be version exclusive? That doesn’t make much sense, we already know that it still becomes Night in Sun, and still becomes Day in Moon. It evolves based on the time of the day.
The same with the Raticate and Gumshoos Totems, I would have assumed that at night you fight Raticate but day you fight Gumshoos, from what we’ve been told it wouldn’t make sense to fight Raticate at day, being Nocturnal.
    It doesn’t add up.

    • They are exclusive I’m afraid. The wording has been clarified and apparently the evolutions do not draw they’re energy from the sun and moon themselves but rather from the emissaries of the sun and moon; Solgaleo and Lunaala…which are version exclusive obviously lol. It’s strange I’ll admit but at least they gave it a pretty good explanation

      • If that’s the case, and Type null is made up of 1 Set of the starters Forms, lets say Day ones, and Rockruff Day Evolution, then is there another Type:Null in Moon made up of the other set of Starters and Rockruff Night?

I am leaning more towards RugaSun(my nicknames are decided already). Those claws on RugaMoon are dope tho.

  9. “It appears the evolutions may be version exclusive.”
“though it appears that it may change form during day and night, and it is not simply a split evolution.”

Alright now I’m confused. If it’s version exclusive it’s going to throw me for a loop because Midday has this awesome new Rock type Ice Shard and I wanted Moon so far.

  10. So if Rockruff evolves differently based on the version and it has something to do with the starters, I wonder if the starters will evolve the same way, based on the version

  11. Well this whole evolution thing just got more confusing……Here’s what I’m hoping: It’s not exactly “version exclusives” per say. More so that due to the games being 12 hours apart it’s easier to get Midday in Sun and Midnight in moon. They’d still be evolutions based on the time of day, but at the same time they would also be easier in their particular game. It’s probably like in BW with Sawk and Throh where one is just harder to get in either game, but both exist.

    • Who knows at this point. they might not even have evolutions with split forms. at this point it’s all speculation and even with the little info we do have it’s still hard to tell. We don’t even have a clear idea of how Rurarugan works.
