[UPD] October CoroCoro Leaking

Well, it looks like this is it! After patiently waiting for Japanese comic magazine CoroCoro to leak it is finally here! Peep the images below.

Translations:

  • NEW Rockruff’s evolution’s forms are version exclusive
  • NEW Day Rugarugan’s signature move is called Accelerock (or Accel Rock) which is a priority move described as “a flashing strike”
  • NEW Night Rugarugan’s signature move is Counter which is glamorized with the flavor text “a fierce strikeback”
  • NEW It seems these are not simple day/night evolutions but are a reflection of the powers that reside in Alola; Solgaleo in Pokémon Sun (Midday form) and Lunaala in Pokémon Moon (Midnight form)
  • Rockruff’s evolution is called Rugarugan (ルガルガン). CoroCoro is very vague on Rugarugan, though it appears that it may change form during day and night, and it is not simply a split evolution.
  • Two new Ultra Beasts are revealed, UB02 Beauty (shown in Pokémon Moon) and UB02 Expansion (shown in Pokémon Sun)
  • The new anime series is called Pokemon: Sun & Moon and will start in November. Since there is no league in the Alola Region Ash’s goal in this season will be to graduate from school.
  • Next month’s issue will reveal the true strength of Type: Null

  1. Hey everyone, I wasn’t on today cuz school. But I absolutely love both Rockruff evos. For me, Day and Night are equal in terms of design. But the ultra beasts…. Not sure what to think about them.

And in terms of anime art style. Ew…. At least for now, ew.

  2. The leaks for this month definitely was a delight to see, especially the leak for the S & M anime. I am definitely intrigued with the direction the Pokemon Company is going with this. I just hope it plays out well and not turn out like B & W….

  3. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW I LOVE THESE!!!!!!!!! I was scared that rockruff would evolve into a werewolf because i wanted a normal wolf, but some wanted the werewolf. It was awesome for gamefreak to please both sides and make both things! Day is my favorite, it resembles rockruff but at the same time it looks more powerful! I like night aswell but eh i wanted rockruff to stay animal like 🙂

  4. Ok a lot of people (even at my school) were saying “Ash Is gonna go to school?! That’s stupid!” So I’m gonna repost this.
Everyone is getting the school thing wrong. By school they mean his learning experiences during the island trails!!!

    Reply
    • Nah i mean they mean school school because the building in the artwork looks like one xD maybe they go on class trips around alola and the grades are based on how well they do on the trials lol

      Reply
      • It was, but it was less a school and more of a college/training academy sort of vibe then a traditional school. Pokemon could pull of something similar and make it interesting.

        Reply
    • Actually i think that one of the first missions in game is to visit the trainer school which looks bigger than those in other regions, maybe it plays a bigger role in these games or maybe it’s just to show off the graphics xD

      Reply
    • I honestly agree with you. Sure there may be some kind of “school” premise, but I think overall it’ll be more so that it’s a new kind of journey. He’s gonna have to learn the ropes again this time as it’s not the typical gym routine he has had for 6 regions. I imagine it won’t be multiple episodes of him sitting in a classroom hahaha

  5. For anyone who’s wondering: the secret is NOT dual evos. Or dual forms. We’ve seen the starters in the dex, there is only two open slots on the top screen next to the starters, meaning they can’t have dual evos. They’ve also said that the screen displays forms too, so that’s ruled out.

    Reply
    • When did they say it showed forms too? Also would that be a good thing if it did? There are plenty of Pokemon that have a ton of forms and I get the feeling it would get crowded if they were all shown lol

      Reply
      • I mean they showed 9 spots for Eevee. There’s a screenshot somewhere. Also they said it in the E3 treehouse stream sometime after they caught Ledyba.

        Reply
        • I just watched that part. The words they use are ambiguous. They say “it either has an evolution or maybe another Pokemon that forms a pair with it” That to me means something different. If it was simply forms he was talking about then he would have just said so. He specifically states that it would be a different Pokemon other than the one you just caught. I imagine it could be like Solrock and Lunatone. Both are separate Pokemon, but form a pair. He never says anything about actual Pokemon forms. Otherwise he would have said something like it shows an evolution or another form the Pokemon has.

          Reply
    • Not necessarily. Dual forms for the starters’ final evolutions are certainly a possibility at this point in time. Promotional footage of an incomplete pokedex is not substantial enough evidence to repudiate this theory. Teasers have hinted at a strong, secret connection between Rockruff and the starters. Considering Rockruff’s “secret” is his split second stage, I find it unlikely that there would be another hidden aspect of these pokemon.

In fact, it’s quite possible that Rockruff is being used as an indirect teaser of what we can expect from the new starter trio.

I could be completely wrong too. Either way, I’m excited to see what we learn over the next couple months.

      Reply
    • Highly doubt it will show forms in the main pokeball area of the pokedex, it will most likely be like the XY/ORAS pokedex and have different forms in a different tab.

I feel like most people didn’t understand that rockruffs evolution is still only one pokemon, so like, rockruffs page is most likely only going to be two pokeballs. Its like Meowstic only not gender but time based.

  6. Funny after really taking a good look at the page for the anime I finally noticed that Kiawe is on it too. Not only is he in that tiny shot of the show, but for the poster he’s on top of Charizard. His body gets cut off too lol

  7. You guys, I’ve noticed that besides the green haired girl we know is following Ash, the chubby boy and the blue haired girl, all in one pic are also his companions.
I know this because she gets popplio, and he has the regional electric rodent.
Their dynamic might be different if they are all attending the same academy, and green haired will likely be his closest friend. But I feel I’m sure of this.
I feel she or ash will also get Litten.
I knew from the first promo calendar he got Rowlet which is cool. Seems to be his froakie. Hopefully fully evolves.

    Reply
    • Kiawe is also in the Poster and one of the anime pics. I doubt all of them will be his companions. I imagine it’s just Mallow and one other person. Maybe Lillie goes with them.

      Reply
      • He’s traveled with 3 others 3 times now. Plus if blue haired gets a starter.. she definitely coming along for marketing, and they always give the electric rodent to a main character. This is how I know. If it’s a school.. then mallow may follow him 99% of the time and the rest 80%. But if it’s their pokemon.. they’re coming

        Reply
        • True, but counting them all it’d be a group of 6. Himself, Lana, Mallow, Kiawe, Sophocles, and Lillie. That’s a bit too much if you ask me haahaha

          Reply
          • No.. I’m only saying.. Ash, Green hair, Blue Hair, Yellow Hair boy.. and ove already explained why them not the rest

          • Oh sorry….lol Yeah I suppose….Idk if I’d like that though. I know he’s had at least two gym leaders with him before, but I like it when he just a has regular trainers to accompany him lol

          • I’m still not sure I believe he’s going to an actual “school”. It seems like an odd step for them to take. It’s one thing to have it be that he needs to learn the ropes as the trails are different than gyms, but having him actually attend a school seems strange and out of character. lol

      • Nm its lillie my bad :p the girl on the left behind lapras head with the alolan vulpix the angle shes at thru me off and yeah :p

        Reply
        • Oh yeah that is Lillie. I think it’s due to her showing way more emotion compared to all the footage and art we’ve seen hahaha

          Reply
          • Also the light blue on her attire did so as well 🙂 well if we ever battle her which i hope at some point same with the trail captians, lillie better have alolan vulpix

          • Huh….I didn’t notice that. I guess that’s one of those minor tweaks they make to the characters like inverting the colored stripes on Ash’s shirt compared to the trainer in the game lol

          • Agreed 🙂 what i hope for is tbat team rocket isnt in ever episode it gets kinda old and samey when they are, yes there plans each episode were diffrent but always came down to catching pikachu -.- main reason why i stop watching the X&Y anime

          • Team Rocket should upgrade their uniform and were they not more fierce in B&W? Bring those Rockets back and double it up. Make them fight other evil teams like they did now in XYZ

  8. They are obviously family…

Lusamine is the crazy sister that thinks she is doing things right but at the end, with
her “love for pokemon” she will screw up the everything.

Gladion is just the generation rival, he tries to be a bad guy but at the end he is just a revel that refuses to follow his family’s steps… but he is good. Like N.

Lillie is the responsible one and will try to fix her siblings mess.

    Reply
    • Like….come on! Fair enough when we just had UB-01. Sure maybe people could have been reaching a bit, but now we have the UB-02’s and yet another is a dead ringer for a preexisting character?!?!?! That’s not coincidence that’s on purpose. They gotta be the UBs lol

      Reply
  9. I’m gonna postulate that we won’t be seeing starter evolutions until the game releases… Probably due to the leaks.

I mean just look what’s happening with the European releases due to that early street date thing. I kinda hope this is the case lol

    Reply
  10. UB-01 ??? : Lillie
    UB-02 Beauty : Lusamine
    UB-02 Expansion : Gladion

I honestly, think they are a family who is involved with the Ultra Beast. Gladion might see what his mother is doing as wrong so he joined Team Skull to stop it, while Lillie is indifferent. Let’s hope UB-03 is Lillie’s father!

    Reply
    • I don’t think Lusamine is their mother….she looks WAY too young to have children in their preteens to teens. Either that or there are people who have some explaining to the police lol

      Reply
    • I doubt that UBE2 is Gladion. For one, the other ultra beasts are dead ringers for Lillie and Lusamine, but UBE2 looks little like Gladion. My theory is that the Aether foundation wanted to give UB forms to certain people, one being Gladion, but he fled because he didn’t want that.

      Reply
    • Also there is literally no way Lusamine is old enough to have kids Lillie’s age. I know Pokemon parents often look young but this is way pushing it. I believe she is an older sister.

  11. Ehh so I kinda came to the conclusion that the SuMo anime poster means jack shit. Its literally showing off the main characters, some of the new Pokemon and that Ash can use Z-moves.

    Reply
    • Well yeah….the first piece of promo art for the anime is obviously not gonna show us anything substantial. The first XY art had Ash and the starters and Sycamore flying in the air above Lumiose tower. Obviously they can’t fly lol

      Reply
      • Tell that to everybody on the internet. They act like this one poster says the entire anime turns out bad. Which is nowhere near fair

        Reply
        • I think the real interesting stuff is the screenshots of the actual show. They may be blurry due to it being a pic of a small image, but the art looks like it’ll be crisp lol

          Reply
          • I’m actually glad they’re giving Ash z-moves since he was denied mega evolution. Now he has a power he can carry on to different regions.

          • /yeah I agree. As far as megas go I understand why they didn’t give him one. It’s an incredibly powerful mechanic and would almost break the show for hi as he’s supposed to be the underdog.

          • And Ash Greninja isn’t show breaking? It’s pretty much mega levels of powerful. So he’s proof that giving him one is just fine.

          • Eh….well yeah I suppose it kind of is, but idk…..sense he wasn’t under control of it it seemed like less of something he could always spam….then again….lol

  12. I’d also like to clarify the rockruff evolution since there seems to be some confusion surrounding it. Pokebeach has already translated the page and the wording indeed implies that these are split evolutions. The exact wording being “The first page shows Rugarugan’s Midnight Form and states that Rockruff turns into this form when “met with the night’s power”. The second page shows Rugarugan’s Midday Form and that Rockruff “takes in the sun’s power to turn into this marvelous form”. The fact that it states that rockruff must be bathed in either the day’s or night’s energy implies that each will yield a different evolution. If it was simply a form change then the wording would instead state that Rugarugan would need to be bathed in either energy to change forms

    Reply
        • Then why aren’t they seperate Pokemon? Maybe it’s just me but I feel like with all of the form changes we’re getting it seems GF doesn’t want to add too many new Pokemon.

          Reply
          • They are the same pokemon though. You can even see they both have the same build, same face, but different features. It’s like Meowstic.

          • I know, my mistake was saying separate evolutions… I mean it in the way that you won’t be able to change between the forms like everyone seems to think . When you have the midday form your stuck with it

          • As much as I don’t like agreeing with him. Joe Merrick made the point that maybe GF are a little nervous about hitting the 1000 milestone. It’d be the first time they’d be adding on an actual digit and they’d probably have to come up with something new to keep the number continuing to grow too far. Makes sense to me.

          • Personally I don’t see the problem with it. How would they stop the number from growing? They wouldn’t stop making new pokemon.

          • They could tho. Maybe that would be good for Pokemon. At least for a little while. Maybe make a new game and focus on the Pokemon we DO have instead of throwing even more at us. There are plenty of forgotten Pokemon that could get a lot of use if it wasn’t for the mad rush for the new Pokemon. Not saying I don’t like getting new mons, but it could be an interesting thing to do.

    • Split forms I think is the better way to put it. Both are the same Pokemon, but they looks different due to certain conditions. Think Wormadam. Differ look, different typings/stats, but still the same Pokemon at the end of it all.

      Reply
      • Same here, which is why they are referred to as “forms” and not separate evolutions. Like with your wormadam example, you can’t change between the wormadam forms. Here you would not be able to change between the rugarugan forms, just determine which one you get before it evolves

        Reply
          • I’d love that, but I still think that the pokedex thing disproves it. Plus, why wouldn’t they reveal Rockruff’s secret the same time as the starters? Also if it’s true, I think the ones we know about are the night formes.

          • Probable due to the leak is my guess. Somewhat like a punishment lol. And the pokedex doesn’t disprove it at all. I said that they’d have the same pokedex slot just like wormadam does

          • I don’t think it’s to punish anyone….they never acknowledge leaks and even if they did it they wouldn’t do stuff to spite the people who plan on buying their games lol

          • They need to get through two layers of the starter evos tho. Rockruff seems to only have one evolution so it makes sense that they’d just do it on it’s own. I think that this Wednesday we’ll get the starters first evos and a teaser saying that they have a special kind of evolution. The finals would then be shown at a later date. Technically the official websites haven’t acknowledged the secret the four of them have yet. At least I don’t think they have. I doubt that means it’s insignificant, but that also means they have a lot of leeway with when they want to show said secret off.

          • I’m still not sure whether I believe that supposed email. It came in with the rush of of a bunch of rumors and it could very well be fake. I believe there was another rumor that said the starter finals had different forms, but that was also still up in the air.

  13. Firstly: No starter evolutions – I told you so!

Beaty is nice, Expansion is hideous.
I’m really not sure what to make of them, they’re starting to ruin the vibe.

Rockruff’s evolution looks completely different from what I expected, but I light the daylight form. Also I had a feeling it wouldn’t be a split evolution. Having a form based on time of day makes more sense anyway since it means that its forms will be different in each version. Both forms are usable in both, but they will always be opposites.

Ash graduating from school? It’s about time.
    Sounds kind of dull though.
“I finally won a pokemon league” vs “I finally graduated”

          • Can’t say I agree with you. It’s sci fi/ fantasy but that’s about it -no horror, hardly any romance, you could call it action to an extent… Take orphan black for example. That show is sci fi and up until the fourth season it never really felt sci fi because it was grounded in characters and real life issues mixed with cloning. They tried to make a realistic sci fi- now compare that to something like Star Trek….

        • you can never have such a thing as too sci-fi or too fantasy, expand the horizons and run into infinity, open your mind and anything is possible

          Reply
          • Pokemon has always felt like our world but with Pokemon instead of animals, and supernatural beings having a great influence. Beyond that, adding Pokemon human fusions, aliens, etc that aren’t Pokemon just complicates it and takes it in a different direction.

          • pokemon has never felt like our world imo, our world is too toxic and boring, the pokemon world is a magical fantasy place with beasts of immeasurable strengths and supernatural powers, I don’t see the issue, but I’m a person that embraces the unknown and the unfamiliar and have a creative mind constantly making up things that are not real but could be in mystical fantasy plans of exsistence.

There are two kinds of people in this world, realists and romantics, or rather, non-dreamers and dreamers, it does no harm to be a dreamer, but to be a non-dreamer, unyielding to change, well, that hinders you, you should always have a healthy skeptism of all things but should also ask, “what if?”

but its ok that we don’t see eye to eye kind stranger, let us not quarrel about things that will be forgotten in an hour <3

          • Lol I’m creative, don’t worry about that. I just realize moments when a series, any series, has possibly jumped the shark. I wouldn’t say gamefreak is there now, but it’s approaching.

          • “jumped the shark”
That is it in a nutshell.

Adding new things is fine, but only if they fit in with what already exists. It’s like how yugioh GX started to fall down when it decided to change from being about ancient gods and beings of darkness to being about aliens from another dimension. The more stuff you try to cram in, the more things break down because you don’t have enough explanation to glue it together.

          • You have a very over-simplified view of the world. Even the most rational scientists dream. They dream of new cures to diseases, new worlds to explore, new creatures to discover. Ask them to accept a god on pure faith however, and they will refuse.

          • over simplified? quite the opposite actually, I never said I accepted everything as true or based any of my opinions or beliefs on faith. But I know that science, while amazing and helpful to us, can always be refined and is always changing, even evolution (which I believe in) is just a theory, we don’t have definitive proof. Please read my last response to you, it may help you see where I am coming from.

          • No, what you said was “There are two kinds of people in this world, realists and romantics”, which is a very narrow view to have.

          • I’d argue that legendary pokemon aren’t supernatural, rather in the world of pokemon they are natural. Even ghost types are just ‘animals’, they aren’t really dead. Arceus isn’t a god, just a powerful pokemon.

So yeah, I completely agree adding fusions, non-pokemon aliens etc does complicate things. Mega evolutions were fair enough because they were somewhat explainable with existing knowledge.

I have a horrible feeling the UBs are just going to be something gimmicky and deus ex machina. UB01 gave me confidence, Beaty is still within the realms of understanding, but Expansion is begining to make me worry.

          • You have to stay within reason or the suspension of disbelief breaks down. For example if humans were to just start flying with no explanation and nobody batted an eyelid you’d slip from scifi into the realm of the surreal.

          • I don’t mean to be rude but, you can literally catch God in a baseball sized metal ball in this same series. A metal ball who’s technology has never been properly or officially explained… What reason are you referring to? Because in my opinion nothing is out of the range of reason after that… 😛

          • Arceus isn’t a god, it’s a beast but one with limited power. If it were truly a god it wouldn’t be defeated and captured so easily.

I grant you that pokeballs have never been fully explained, but they’ve been established since the begining and the science of the pokemon world follows a certain amount of reason. For example pokeballs do not work on people or buildings, it is not possible to capture an entire town inside a pokeball, things like that.

Limitations are at the core of any scifi series, they exist to prevent the plot from degrading into realms beyond its scope. For example, if aliens suddenly turned up on harry potter and all the wizards had to start fighting aliens, that would be beyond the scope of the story.

          • It’s classification is the Alpha pokemon… That’s one of the was people refer to God in the real world… Arceus IS a god… It is THE god. It created the beings that created the universe and the earth. Please explain to me how it isn’t a god..? Because literally every single creation story on earth (and all creation stories deal with Gods of some kind), goes pretty much just like that .
My point was that the games are already unreasonable because you can catch and defeat god so easily but that’s more a gameplay and mechanics thing than a world building type of thing. It’s an issue I’ve always had with legend arise in game. Nothing about them feels legendary

          • anything can be sci-fi because nothing in science is really proven. there is no such thing as a scientific proof.

“Proofs exist only in mathematics and logic, not in science. Mathematics and logic are both closed, self-contained systems of propositions, whereas science is empirical and deals with nature as it exists. The primary criterion and standard of evaluation of scientific theory is evidence, not proof. All else equal (such as internal logical consistency and parsimony), scientists prefer theories for which there is more and better evidence to theories for which there is less and worse evidence. Proofs are not the currency of science.

Proofs have two features that do not exist in science: They are final, and they are binary. Once a theorem is proven, it will forever be true and there will be nothing in the future that will threaten its status as a proven theorem (unless a flaw is discovered in the proof). Apart from a discovery of an error, a proven theorem will forever and always be a proven theorem.

In contrast, all scientific knowledge is tentative and provisional, and nothing is final. There is no such thing as final proven knowledge in science. The currently accepted theory of a phenomenon is simply the best explanation for it among all available alternatives. Its status as the accepted theory is contingent on what other theories are available and might suddenly change tomorrow if there appears a better theory or new evidence that might challenge the accepted theory. No knowledge or theory (which embodies scientific knowledge) is final. That, by the way, is why science is so much fun.

Further, proofs, like pregnancy, are binary; a mathematical proposition is either proven (in which case it becomes a theorem) or not (in which case it remains a conjecture until it is proven). There is nothing in between. A theorem cannot be kind of proven or almost proven. These are the same as unproven.

In contrast, there is no such binary evaluation of scientific theories. Scientific theories are neither absolutely false nor absolutely true. They are always somewhere in between. Some theories are better, more credible, and more accepted than others. There is always more, more credible, and better evidence for some theories than others. It is a matter of more or less, not either/or. For example, experimental evidence is better and more credible than correlational evidence, but even the former cannot prove a theory; it only provides very strong evidence for the theory and against its alternatives.

The knowledge that there is no such thing as a scientific proof should give you a very easy way to tell real scientists from hacks and wannabes. Real scientists never use the words “scientific proofs,” because they know no such thing exists. Anyone who uses the words “proof,” “prove” and “proven” in their discussion of science is not a real scientist.” -Satoshi Kanazawa

            TL;DR : Anything is possible.

          • That doesn’t mean anything is possible, that just means nothing can be proven.

Things in science can however be disproven. It’s called ‘falsifiability’ or ‘refutability’. Things that are falsifiable are scientific, things that are unable to be falsified are forms of pseudoscience.

Also the beliefs of one man are not representative of the entire scientific community, especially one who isn’t a scientist.

He’s a psychologist, not a scientist. Psychology is a pseudoscience. And before you try to refute that, I have a qualification in psychology, every teacher I had openly admitted psychology is a pseudoscience, that’s a well established fact.

Also I’d be wary of him if he believes “African countries suffer chronic poverty and illness because their people have lower IQs”.

          • hes not the only one to have this view he just has the best wording to describe it, in fact this is taught in every psychology of science course in the universities in my country, and it doesn’t matter if its a pseudo science or not, I’m not talking about the science, but the concept presented here, its pretty much accepted all across the board considering we as a human race once thought that bleeding people would help fight diseases.

My point is, don’t be so quick to dismiss something, heck we could find out tomorrow that magic truly did exist/still exists but that it is the result of some unseen particle that requires certain chemical reactions to manifest. not saying it is just giving an example, and I’m not saying I’m right, I’m just merely trying to express my point that you shouldn’t be so closed minded, skeptical yes, but not to totally reject an idea as unfounded when it really isn’t in this situation.

But I know that people on the internet like to fluff their egos and come away as always right and having that last word, so go ahead, I won’t press the matter further, just hoping that in the future more people will approach things with an open mind…

          • Yes, but in the day of leeches science wasn’t really the way things were done. They did alchemy instead and they didn’t really test theories, they just came up with a belief and stuck with it rather than the modern approach of strong empirical testing.

Finding a new particle that makes new things possible is believeable, but magic suddenly happening is not. Science does not create new things, it examines what is already possible and seeks ways to explain them and new ways to harness these natural phenomena that can benefit mankind.

To that I say only this:
What if I told you I’m not human?
You wouldn’t believe it would you?

        • I feel like that’s literally the point tho…? Ultra Beasts aren’t supposed to be pokemon or humans… Therefore they have to look alien. They are from a different dimension after all

          Reply
          • I didn’t say you had to. I was saying that it clearly isn’t too “sci-fi” for pokemon because they did it. We don’t define the outlines and parameters as fans… Gamefreak does. As you said, it is simply up to us to either like or dislike it.

      • They feel too much like Dokutsu-style super heroes/villains.

Almost every pokemon has a similar vibe, they’re cutesy or tough and they feel like animals, even some of the humanoid ones. The UBs don’t give the same impression. They’re drawn in a different style, they have different rules to their design. As @Rockcrawdaunt:disqus notes, they seem more sinister, more alien (more alien than Deoxys or Elgyem even).
