The anime recently ended its weekly airing in Japan and teased the potential evolution of Ash’s Rockruff. There are several things that point towards a new form, or forms, for its evolution Lycanroc. Here’s what we’ve found:
CLUE 1: Evolution takes place at dusk
Based on the latest anime preview, it seems that Rockruff is beginning to evolve at neither day or night, but at dusk. This is played up as the sun straddles the horizon and Rockruff looks into the light as a strange green energy seems to illuminate its eyes. CLUE 2: Mystery products still unrevealed

CLUE 3: Pokémon Global Link placeholder image
Another mysterious piece of the puzzle comes from an image off the Pokémon Global Link website which lists Lycanroc as having not 2, but 4 forms. Could there be dawn and dusk forms coming as well? It seems to make sense based off of what the anime is showing us.

Interesting that if there is a new form, it wouldn’t be the totem. If lycanroc is a new totem or even has a bigger role in USUM, why wouldn’t the new forms be the two you face depending on what version you chose?

I do think a new form or 2 would be nice, but maybe a further evolution for both would be better, making up for not so stellar stats. If it is a new form that’s another one for me to shiny breed. I wonder how it would differ from the other 2 in stats, ability and movepool. I expect it’ll be pure Rock again.

I dont think its a new Lycanroc form. I mean Dusk form? What would that even be? Day is already a wolf, Night is a Werewolf. So what could dusk be?How would that work in game? Dusk is such a small period in game.

Plus the fact that Masuda has already said that we’ll have new Pokemon in USUM. Can of course mean existing ones that didn’t appear in the S/M Pokedex but knowing Masuda, its not that straightforward.

Ash’s Rockruff is close to evolution due to becoming restless, as stated by Olivia who would’ve owned a Rockruff at one point.
The next episode features Gladion’s Midnight Lycanroc, Olivia’s Midday Lycanroc, and Ash’s Rockruff. The preview shows Rockruff glancing at the sunset, and its eyes glowing green.

Like Rockruff evolving during dusk even though there are two options for it to evolve into. We will find out there is a third form it can take. So the answer you are looking for is Yesno! A combination of both answers that you had once thought were distinct like night and day.
Because this particular toy line for Pokeshopper is of the Rockruff line? Confirmed by Paul Ryan himself, but he couldn’t get into too much detail yet because of an embargo.

Oh yea, kurusu sorry for not responding earlier. I just wrote what I thought Gamefreak might do for the Alola Johto starters. Here is my opinion on Alola Meganium for you to look at:
Of course with the GS virtual console coming up there is a lot of speculation that there will be Johto Pokemon with Alola forms. And some people are hoping that the Johto starters will get Alola forms. So I tried to think of what Avenue Gamefreak would go with this and here is my conclusion. First, only the final evolutions will have Alola forms; in SM there were only 18 different Alola forms of 9 evolutionary lines. I believe that like the number of Megas in ORAS matched the number of Megas in XY, the trend will continue for # of Alola forms in SM compared to USUM. Thus if the entire line had Alolan forms that would be 9 already. The ability changes I listed are not really based on any correlations and are more like changes I would do to improve them. Please let me know what you think. And I will do the other two starters later, but for now my sister’s favorite starter of the Johto trio when we were kids.

Ability Change: Overgrow -> Queenly Majesty
It’s evolutionary move Petal Dance will be replaced with Outrage (basically the same kind of attack) and at the very least it’s ATK and SPA stats will be switched. I know that we already have a Grass/Dragon in the case of Exeggutor, but the typing makes some sense. Meganium is based on a Sauropod which is a Dinosaur and has been associated with Dragon typing before (ex. Tyrantum) it is also able to learn Dragon Tail through TM. Grass/Ground could also be argued for since it learns two ground moves by TM and if Gamefreak does not wish to make a trend by associating Dinosaurs with Dragons. Also I know that Aurorus was a Dinosaur as well but it was part of Fossil duo, it was unlikely that they would have made them both of them Rock/Dragon. Especially with how few Pokemon (not including Megas) were introduced in the Kalos dex was.

Yea. I would actually prefer a Grass/Ground variant because I feel that it would be stronger than Grass/Dragon. But I feel as if Gamefreak would go the latter route if they were making Alola forms

Lycanday is a fast physical, Lycanight is a slower attacker, so I’m thinking either specially based attackers or a true tank and a status spreader.

This new Lycanroc form is probably just another promotional stunt like Ash-Greninja. Won’t be an entire new Pokemon, but they want Ash to have his own unique partner which also creates hype among the community.

-Like Unburdened states it exist a century before XY so Ash never discovered it

It had wispy radiation coming off it kind of like Sylveons’ ribbons, but it was harmless radiation until it was in danger. It could learn Explosion and Self-Destruct and had high HP for an Eeveelution. It was mostly purple with neon green patches. I had thought of an ability Irradiate, Poison version of Pixilate.
