Pokémon GO Fest, Solstice Event and Gym Rework!

To celebrate the game’s one year anniversary as well as 750 million global downloads, real-world events will be taking place throughout the summer and into September. The biggest of these will be the Pokémon GO Fest scheduled to be held in Chicago, Illinois on July 22. Ticket prices have not yet been announced. European players can expect special GO events held in Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers.

Furthermore, beginning on June 13 players can participate in the Solstice Event in Pokémon GO (iOS/Android) which will increase the rates of Fire and Ice-type Pokémon, offer bonus XP for Pokéball throws and also feature a Lucky Egg discount. The event will run only until June 20 though, so watch your calendars carefully!

In addition, Niantic has posted some cryptic words hinting at the long-rumored “gym rework” which will improve the system in which players capture and control Pokémon Gyms, “Soon thereafter, you can look forward to a new update focused on collaborative group gameplay features that will get you playing Pokémon GO in fun new ways. In preparation for these exciting features, we’ll be temporarily disabling Gyms for a short period of time.” We’ll have to wait and see what these new updates bring!

How are you feeling about all this GO news? Still out there catching Pokémon in the real world?

  1. Since Star’s asking for nicknames:

What are some nicknames of yours you’ve really liked? They don’t have to be elaborate or a great joke/reference or whatever

Bablyon – Salazzle (Whore of Bablyon)
    Pitaya – Salamence (Dragon fruit)
    Venus – Clefable (Planet)

      • Funny joke, no if they’re gonna screw me for days why should I bust my ass

Seriously I go in on my days they don’t give me work to shop and I find my station a giantess wreck
Why am I the only one keeping it nice when they don’t seem to have people who do have work

  2. I like how I have zero issues with Pory 2 now and have yet to see a ribomb
Birds are a bitch to deal with though

      • Use Scrafty, it literally makes the thing useless . It takes at most like 20 percent per hit and can knock off drain punch until it dies
        It’s an easy kill

  5. Alright here’s a different one if you can change the animation for 3 Pokemon attacks what would you choose?

    • Twinkle Tackle – Make the tackling look less awkward and more badass

Earthquake – It looks shit in Gen 7

      Prismatic Laser – Underwhelming asf

    • To get the ball rolling
Earthquake: I hate how Earthquake looks nowadays I would change it so it looks like the Pokemon Battle Revolution, a concussive shockwave that tore through the ground with great power
Gunk Shot: I mean wtf something called gunk shot should be a nasty torrent of sludge or slime, yet they show it in the game and anime as it tossing a trash can, this just bugs me for using real world objects in a attack used by supernatural creatures
I can’t really think of anything else but I don’t like how Bone Rush and Bone Club looked in XY

    • Sparkling Aria- Make the water thingies more music symbol shaped
Zap Cannon- I want it to look more badass
Any attack the Pokemon does some badass thing that makes contact but is still the entire time

“Ok heres what I think. We go back to Hoenn, or its built in as a mini game part. The story involves the legendary of each version and combines w/ Kyureum to make its powerful (Ghetis plan). N will tag team w/ us. And pokemon will walk with us once more to make us more friendly w/ them.” – Sunny

    “ugly!” – B1ackS0ul

“Hey, guys. I actually do believe that Black 2 and White 2 are actually sequels and not just remakes…” – Nate

“So, um, that thing I was saying about Gray Version being on the DS and not the 3DS? Not gonna say “I told you so” but boy is it tempting right now.” – Similarity

“I’ve seen some speculation that this might actually be a mix between the 5th and 3rd generations. If you look at the logo, Pokemon Black 2 has a blue gemstone….while Pokemon White 2 has a red gemstone.” – Sean
“Ive seen some speculation that the earth is flat.” – Charon in response to Sean

“… I knew it. Kyurem is a parasite. More exactly, a space parasite. Almost like deoxsys!” – Augustsuto
