Pokémon Stars: The 4 Facts We Know

With just over one more day until the big Nintendo Switch press conference (and don’t worry, we’ll be covering it!), fans are understandably excited. Pokémaniacs are particularly keen to hear about the rumored title that brings Pokémon Sun & Moon’s gameplay to the new console. While nothing has been outright confirmed, here is our mega list of rumors about Pokémon Stars (or Eclipse):

  • New Pokémon, Alolan Forms or Mega Evolutions: The game could add up to 20 (a number dropped by Laura Dale, gaming journalist) brand-new Pokémon or forms/evolutions to Alola. Whether or not these will be compatible with Pokémon Sun & Moon is currently unknown.
  • Improved Graphics: GameFreak didn’t skimp in Sun & Moon, but their successor will apparently utilize the Switch’s improved capabilities to breath HD life into Alola and its inhabitants.
  • Compatible with Sun & Moon: While the new Pokémon might not make it to your copies of Pokémon Sun or Moon, there will be ways to transfer existing Pokémon to Stars through an improved Pokémon Box app. Many are hoping that Pokémon caught in the console version will also be able to be transferred to the 3DS games as well.
  • Switch-Exclusive Features: Pokémon Stars will not only bring improved graphics to what we experienced in Sun & Moon, but will also introduce new features not found in the portable games. While not mentioned in the rumors, the animations found for walking Pokémon do hint that a companion system will be coming back to the overworld similar of that in Pokémon Yellow or HeartGold & SoulSilver.

This is mostly a compilation from various Twitter sources from gaming journalists, the initial leak, and also a Reddit AMA. The logo is an original creation of our wonderful moving and not official. If you missed it, don’t forget to check out for new Alolan Forms we’re hoping for!

Tell us in the comments about whether or not you expect Pokémon Stars to be revealed at the Nintendo Switch presentation!

  1. WOW, if Alola looks already amazing on the 3ds, imagine how good it will look on the switch, I can’t wait. btw first

  2. Damn, we got stuck with an article for days and then got two so close XD

I’m really interested in what they’ll do with Stars, and I’m particularly hopeful for the new Pokémon/Alola Forms. I really hope there’s at least one per type (including dual types), but I really wouldn’t mind if Fairy, Grass, Water and Normal didn’t get much new stuff. Ice, Dark and Steel need it more.

Kinda hoping we get new forms of Oricorio (maybe one where it hadn’t absorbed any nectar at all?), Lycanroc (Eclipse version), and maybe a white Minior?

Kinda hoping for new UBs and the obvious Necrozma form too

  3. Honestly the thing I’m most excited about is for a Pokemon game to actually be in HD finally. Stars could be just a regular port of Sun and Moon and I’d be super hyped as it’d finally bring the main series games into a world of good graphics. Anything else is just gravy for me. As for the Rumors I think the 20 extra monsters will be mostly likely forms/megas. I can’t see them putting out brand new Pokemon. Sure they could, but I doubt it. As for new features being in Stars that aren’t in the 3DS games I’d say that’s a given. Every game has their gimmicks and stars won’t be an exception. so yes there will be exclusive stuff to the Switch game. lol I will say I would like the companion Pokemon to come back. I watch a GameXplain video where they stated their top 5 wishes for Stars. In said video they made a good point about how in SuMo GF made it a point to have multiple characters talk about you and your slot 1 Pokemon a lot. Would make a lot of sense if that was prep for them bringing back walking Pokemon. lol

  4. These are honestly the few things I hope from the games:

    – Fixed up, better version of Festival Plaza (immediate connection to Internet while going there)

    – New Mega Evolutions (at least 10 new please, and make lots of them for underrated Pokemon)

-Compatibility with Pokemon Bank (so I can easily transfer to S/M on the 3DS, as well as to complete my Bank Dex)

    – New locations (I might not buy this game if it’s just the exact same locations, with no changes)

    – Different story (change it up, make there be new characters, new trials/captains, also new gyms, which I’d rather have this time)

    – Less glitches (Glitches 100% will happen, but hopefully there won’t be too many of them so most of the updates won’t be mainly for fixing them. I know coding is hard but maybe they should take as much time possible to release it.)

    That’s it!

    • But immediate connection would make it longer and more tedious for players who use it for offline features

    • – Yes
      – Yea but unlikely ; – ;
      – Yep
      – this is basically guaranteed
      – No this won’t happen. Unless there would be post game gyms
      – If these bugs didn’t exist we wouldn’t have gotten an update at all if makes no difference

      • I especially hope for New Mega Evolutions, they’re really fun. At least have a shop using FC instead of BP to buy all of them!

        • I would like that and more move combinations like the the pledges, for example Electric Terrain combined with Rain Dance will make a thunderstorm weather effect that ups water and electric type moves while it has the chance to damage non electric type pokemon at the end of each turn. I would love move combos like that, imagine Fire Spin and Twister.

  5. Just realised that I wont be able to buy a Switch at launch because both Horizon: Zero Dawn and Mass Effect Andromeda release in March. Hate it when that happens, AAARG

  6. So the Switch Stream is apparently 4am for me (unless the website I’m reading is wrong, which is a good chance)
