Top 5 New Alolan Forms We Need in Pokémon Stars

With up to 20 new Pokémon being introduced into the Pokémon Sun & Moon follow-up game for the Nintendo Switch console, code-named Pokémon Stars, there is a lot of speculation about just what we may see. It isn’t hard to imagine that some of those may be Alolan forms for existing Pokémon, rather than brand new monsters.

Sticking to the Gen I-only rule, here are the 5 we (or just me) want to see:

1. Kingler

Things were simpler back when Pokémon first debuted; fans didn’t care that their giant grab didn’t have much differentiating it from something they’d find at any beach. A classic design sure—but in today’s crowded list of almost 1,000 Pokémon it just doesn’t stand out. I’d like to see a secondary type added so that we can have a decent Water-type crab Pokémon to catch in Alola.

Some interesting combinations could be Water/Ground and play up the sand burrowing aspect or even go Water/Fighting and give it some backstory with Crabrawler. I’m not even going to be too picky here; just throw us Kingler fans a bone GameFreak!

2. Primeape

Have you ever wondered how a coughed-up furball became a Pokémon? Yeah, us too. This Fighting-type Pokémon has never seemed very popular, but it’s a shame since its rather simplistic design could be modified for a much better and more distinct Alolan form.

One of the more unique ways GameFreak could adapt it to the island region is by covering it with moss. Sloths have moss growing in their fur, why not Primeape? With only 3 Grass/Fighting types it would have a much better chance to stand out.

Or just make it a furball… but on fire. That’d work too.

3. Hypno

No Alolan Hypno?! This was one of the biggest mistakes of Pokémon Sun & Moon and Stars will have to rectify this. Make its collar resemble a Hawaiian lei and make it a Psychic/Grass type. Predictable, but also perfectly Alolan.

Another cool idea would be to make this creepy Pokémon part Dark. There have always been some sinister undertones with Hypno (carrying off sleeping people, etc) and it’d be great to see more of that represented in its rather plain appearance.

4. Electrode

Beast Ball.

I don’t think there are any good arguments against this; it just needs to happen. A new type for it would be great too—something that makes it more unique than just plain Electric.

Muk, the moving pile of sludge, got a rainbow makeover, so it’s only fair that the Pokéball look-a-like gets one too, right?

5. Jynx

Long left alone because of Political Correctness reading into its design, this fetching lass needs a vacation from scrutiny. Where better than to hit the spa? Alola, of course!

Many of you have seen the fan rendition of her Alolan form, complete with a coconut bra, and it doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Or something else that would totally surprise people and give her more of a personality outside of the controversy she’s normally known for. There’s plenty of places to go with a long, flowing gown as any Project Runway fan could tell you.

  1. All gen 1 though? Barf. We need Luna moth alolan volcarona. And not just because I’m biased. From kanto we need an Alolan form for starmie.

  5. I think any new Alolan forms would have to be Pokemon that were unobtainable in Sun & Moon so that it’s easier to cram them into the canon. Primeape and Hypno already exist in Sun & Moon and can be captured, so it would be hard to explain how they experienced a form change so quickly between versions (unless stars is set a long way in the future).

    Jynx, Kingler and Electrode would be OK though. I think Alolan Arbok or Vileplume would be cool. Both have patterns that could be changed and neither was awarded a mega in Gen VI.

    Lickitung would also be cool. It used to be one of my favourite pokemon but it seems a little bland now after 6 generations, and Lickilicky was a waste of an evolution IMO. It could become furry and look more like a jungle anteater, maybe becoming Fighting or Ground type.

    Lastly Dewgong is a pretty plain and boring pokemon which has been left alone since it was introduced. Could be time to offer it a lifeline. Maybe its horn grows longer in Alola and conducts electricity? Could become an Ice/Electric type.

    • rocky shores of Alola dewgong needed to break the rocks with its horn so as time went one the horn grew bigger and much stronger, maybe that could lead to water/steel or a water/rock maybe it gets a rock like Armour around its horn and body

  8. I think I can agree with these picks. Not sure I agree with the typings that were chosen, but the Pokemon themselves could use Alolan forms. lol

  11. The Hypno one really got me thinking about a shaman-esque design, perhaps with markings all over its body and a bone hat. It could even live among colonies of Marowak. A psychic/dark type or even a dark/grass, heck even something with the ghost typing could work

  13. all of these are extremely unlikely
    and half of them are part grass, lame and unexplained

    very few Pokemon of gen 1 left don’t need to have stupid Alolan forms especially if they’re totally going to give the finger to actual logic (looking at you Raichu)

    i only had one idea and that involved Vileplume being Grass/Flying because their petals got bigger and thinner letting them parachute on air breezes to be closer to the sun and spread their spores better
    and after years of practice and evolution Vileplume of the Alola region learnt how to whisk into the air and even learn some flying attacks

  14. I’d love to see Gen II Alolan forms.

    Bug/Fighting Ledyba, Rock/Grass Sudowoodo, Ground/Poison Quagsire, Normal/Fairy Ursaring (to combat Bewear). Those would be great!

  16. I still want to see Alolan Parasect, with morellul growing on its back as a bug/fairy type that evolves from normal paras when leveled up with morellul in the party.

    Rattata –> Raticate (Dark/Normal)
    Sandshrew –> Sandslash (Ice/Steel)
    Vulpix (Ice) –> Ninetales (Ice/Fairy)
    Diglett –> Dugtrio (Ground/Steel)
    Meowth –> Persian (Dark)
    Geodude –> Graveler –> Golem (Rock/Electric)
    Grimer –> Muk (Poison/Dark)

    Here are the Pokemon that will get Alolan forms and/or at least ones with Alolan forms whose pre-evolutions will get Alolan forms in Pokemon Stars:

    Alolan Ekans –> Alolan Arbok (type yet to be revealed)
    Alolan Pichu –> Alolan Pikachu –> Alolan Raichu (Electric/Psychic)
    Alolan Paras –> Alolan Parasect (Bug/Fairy)
    Alolan Mankey –> Alolan Primeape (type yet to be revealed)
    Alolan Growlithe –> Alolan Arcanine (Water)
    Alolan Exeggcute –> Alolan Exeggutor (Grass/Dragon)
    Alolan Cubone –> Alolan Marowak –> (Fire/Ghost)
    Alolan Koffing –> Alolan Weezing (Fire)
    Alolan Mantyke –> Alolan Mantine (Water/Ground)

    Some of the Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, and Kalos Pokemon that had not yet appeared in the Alola Pokedex will get Alolan forms in Pokemon Stars.

    1) No. Boring.
    2) Okay
    3) Okay
    4) NO!
    4) God no! Anything but that! Turning a Pokemon that is already be accused of being a stereotype into a stereotypical hula girl would not go over well…

    My “Top Five”?

    1) Either Belossom, or the entire Oddish Line. Make Bellossom Grass/Fire (with red hibiscus blossoms) or Grass/Fairy (with sea hibiscus blossoms)

    2) Shellder and Cloyster to finally make good of the lore that it supposedly looks different in other parts of the world. Beautiful, tropical shells, extremely hard so that it can be Water/Steel

    3) Poison/Water Ekans/Arbok sea snakes would be cool…

    4) I want Hypno to be dark/Fairy, it’s a creepy, child-stealing goblin, that screams dark/fairy

    5) “Pure” forms of all the fossil Pokemon, revived following an improved method giving them the types:

    Kabuto – unchanged, design and stats different
    Omanyte: Water/Steel
    Aerodactyl: unchanged, but modelled after its Mega Evo
    Lileep: Grass/Water
    Anorith: Bug/Water
    Cranidos: Fighting
    Shieldon: Pure Steel
    Tirtoga: Pure Water
    Archen: fighting/Flying
    Tyrunt: Dragon/Dark
    amaura: Ice/Fairy

  22. NO..thats a stupid list…first of all some of these already appear in alola so it doesnt make any sense that they aquire alolan forms l in stars…And I dont understand why voltorb/electrode need Alolan forms…they are pokeballs why would they need to adapt to something else !?
