Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation V

Hello everybody, we’re bringing you another Mascot Pokémon Showdown. The winner of last time is Giratina with 56%!
Now it’s time for Unova. Generation V released in 2010 in Japan and in 2011 in the rest of the world. This time, the generation consisted of four games: Black, White, Black 2 and White 2, and introduced amazing features, such as seasons, triple and rotation battles and the Pokémon World Tournament

Pokémon Black Version

black_en_boxartPokémon Black featured Reshiram, the Vast White Pokémon. It is a Dragon/Fire Pokémon that contains almost entirely out of fluff. By flaring the enormous engine-like tail, it can move the atmosphere of the world, which changes the weather.

Reshiram is the only Pokëmon known to be able to learn Fusion Flare and Blue Flare. Together with Zekrom, they were first shown on the Japanese and English website on the same date, which makes them the first two to be revealed worldwide simultaneously. Its name comes from ‘shiro‘ (白, ‘white’) and ‘re‘, which is just a softer sound than ‘ze‘.

Pokémon White Version

Pokémon White showcased Zekrom, the Deep Black Pokémon, white_en_boxarton its cover. He has a Dragon/Electric-typing with small black wings coming from its shoulders. Like Reshiram, Zekrom has an engine-like tail, but this one produces lightning bolts.

Zekrom has the highest Attack, Defense, and base stat total of all Electric Pokémon. It’s Ken Sugimori’s favorite Pokémon of Generation V. Its name is a combination of ‘kuro‘ (黒, ‘black’) and ‘ze‘, which is just a harder sound than ‘re‘.

Pokémon Black 2 Version

black_2_en_boxartOn the case of Pokémon Black 2 is Black Kyurem, a combination of Kyurem and Zekrom. It keeps Zekrom‘s arms, but is much more muscular than it. Its left arm, wing and lower jaw are completely covered in ice.

Black Kyurem has the highest Attack stat of all Ice Pokémon, and together with White Kyurem, it has the highest base stat total of all Ice-type Pokémon. Despite being larger than before it fused, it’s actually lighter than Kyurem. Its name comes from ‘rei‘ (冷, ‘cold’),  ‘kyuurei‘ (急冷, ‘rapid cooling’) and ‘rei‘ (零, ‘zero’).

Pokémon White 2 Version

Unlike all other generations, this generation had 2 upgraded white_2_en_boxartversions instead of one. On the second version, Pokémon White 2, you can see White Kyurem on the cover. This is a fusion of Kyurem and Reshiram. Its right wing, head plume and upper jaw are frozen.

White Kyurem has the highest Special attack stat of all Ice-type Pokémon, and, as mentioned before, the highest base stat total of all of them. It’s also the tallest Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

  1. So let’s be real here. Stars is gonna be a game with both Kanto and Alola in it and Lillie will be a Champion of one of them or be a super powerful trainer in general that we’ll face yes? hahaha

      • As bad as it is I think they’ve given up on Kalos. It could have been a great region and in general design it is, but the over world in game is so bland and there’s so much empty space that they totally dropped the ball with it.

          • Alola is probably my favorite region. Not only does it make me think of going on vacation, but it’s so vibrant and beautiful. While most regions have their own little things about them Alola certainly does stand out. lol

    • Man that whole scene was great. I loved the adventure you and Lillie go on as just the two of you. It made things so personal and if they had made the other characters been along for the ride it would have felt over crowded and might have cheapened the experience. lol

        • Well Gladion is great don’t get me wrong, but I’m glad he went off to do his own thing. It made it even more special for the next time you face him. In which he is super badass lol

          • Gotta admit I actually liked Hau a lot. He was way more dynamic than you’d think. His character depth was pretty good. On the outside super happy and outgoing, but on the inside yearning for a more fulfilling life that makes him feel like he’s doing something worthwhile. I like that a lot. Plus he wasn’t annoying in every scene. He made his point when he needed to, but in the end it was obvious that he saw that there were bigger things happening around him and he tried to take a step back and help when needed. Totally different from someone say, Hugh from BW2, who was constantly complaining and never really learned a lesson even tho there was crap happening to a bunch of people all around him.

  2. I’m feeling the hax already. I’ve had salazzle out in battle for a few turns, and as soon as I decide to use my Z move the dugtio uses dig.

  3. So, having played the full game and having had time to reflect upon it, here’s my rating for pokemon sun and moon.
    9.7/10
Absolutely amazing games, but not without a few (not many) noticable flaws. Overall one of the best pokemon experiences I’ve ever had.

And here’s my ranking of my top three favorite iterations:
    3. Platinum
    2. Sun/Moon
    1. HGSS

      3.Black and White
      2.Sun and Moon
1.HGSS (ok like Sun and Moon are the better games but I’m really holding onto nostalgia here 😛 )

    • A solid 9.3/10 for me. While there is SO much the games did well, there are just a bunch of things I wish were done differently. Frame rate was an issue for me, and the postgame content just doesn’t quite cut it. I also wish that some areas were better developed, especially Mt. Lanakila and the hotels. While this isn’t so much of a flaw, I felt such a connection with all of the characters that I wish there was MORE, especially in terms of Team Skull. Then there’s my smaller flaws, like the fact that Mega Stones have to be bought, cutscenes got in the way sometimes, and the first few hours of the game felt like NPCs were holding your hand constantly. Don’t get me wrong, these games are phenomenal, but some room for improvement of course.

      Top three games overall:
      3. Pokemon Emerald
      2. Pokemon Black/White
      1. Pokemon Sun/Moon

In my opinion, Sun and Moon delivered the best region, the best Gym system, best characters, best plot, best music, best base challenge, best additional features, not to mention the best balance between fun and emotions.

  4. Something unrelated that came to me today: it’s extremely ironic that I feel more comfortable and safe when I’m completely anonymous on the internet and becoming friends with absolue strangers than I do around people who I know well and have every reason to trust.

TBH I never gave it that much thought.
    Now back to pokemon.

    • Anonymity provides a level of personal protection, you are able to feel less judged when not having to face others which can make it much easier to be open.

      • I know that all too well. I feel like I can just be myself around here, but when I’m doing actual social things, I feel all restrained and stuff, like I’m holding part of myself back for some reason.

        • It’s fear of repercussion of someone you care about and have to face in reality. Here you could leave any time and never have to speak to anyone again very easily if you wanted to. The only real problem is being able to convey what you mean efficiently and in a way everyone can understand all the time. Without many of the expressions speech and visual contact provide. Even with emoticons, gifs, memes etc this can be hard.

    • I spent all of my money on the DPPt soundtrack. It was good at the time, but now I’m regretting it lol.

      There’s always youtube for me.

  5. I can’t believe it took me 68 hours to beat Sun! Never have I gone much more over 30 hours let alone two times that! I had a blast!! Now it’s time to do all the stuff I typically do in the post game of Pokemon. time to catch the “legendary” Pokemon and shiny hunt!!! lol
