Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation V

Hello everybody, we’re bringing you another Mascot Pokémon Showdown. The winner of last time is Giratina with 56%!
Now it’s time for Unova. Generation V released in 2010 in Japan and in 2011 in the rest of the world. This time, the generation consisted of four games: Black, White, Black 2 and White 2, and introduced amazing features, such as seasons, triple and rotation battles and the Pokémon World Tournament

Pokémon Black Version

black_en_boxartPokémon Black featured Reshiram, the Vast White Pokémon. It is a Dragon/Fire Pokémon that contains almost entirely out of fluff. By flaring the enormous engine-like tail, it can move the atmosphere of the world, which changes the weather.

Reshiram is the only Pokëmon known to be able to learn Fusion Flare and Blue Flare. Together with Zekrom, they were first shown on the Japanese and English website on the same date, which makes them the first two to be revealed worldwide simultaneously. Its name comes from ‘shiro‘ (白, ‘white’) and ‘re‘, which is just a softer sound than ‘ze‘.

Pokémon White Version

Pokémon White showcased Zekrom, the Deep Black Pokémon, white_en_boxarton its cover. He has a Dragon/Electric-typing with small black wings coming from its shoulders. Like Reshiram, Zekrom has an engine-like tail, but this one produces lightning bolts.

Zekrom has the highest Attack, Defense, and base stat total of all Electric Pokémon. It’s Ken Sugimori’s favorite Pokémon of Generation V. Its name is a combination of ‘kuro‘ (黒, ‘black’) and ‘ze‘, which is just a harder sound than ‘re‘.

Pokémon Black 2 Version

black_2_en_boxartOn the case of Pokémon Black 2 is Black Kyurem, a combination of Kyurem and Zekrom. It keeps Zekrom‘s arms, but is much more muscular than it. Its left arm, wing and lower jaw are completely covered in ice.

Black Kyurem has the highest Attack stat of all Ice Pokémon, and together with White Kyurem, it has the highest base stat total of all Ice-type Pokémon. Despite being larger than before it fused, it’s actually lighter than Kyurem. Its name comes from ‘rei‘ (冷, ‘cold’),  ‘kyuurei‘ (急冷, ‘rapid cooling’) and ‘rei‘ (零, ‘zero’).

Pokémon White 2 Version

Unlike all other generations, this generation had 2 upgraded white_2_en_boxartversions instead of one. On the second version, Pokémon White 2, you can see White Kyurem on the cover. This is a fusion of Kyurem and Reshiram. Its right wing, head plume and upper jaw are frozen.

White Kyurem has the highest Special attack stat of all Ice-type Pokémon, and, as mentioned before, the highest base stat total of all of them. It’s also the tallest Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

  1. I know it’s kinda early, but there’s two routes a potential sequel could go:
    – A continuation to Sun and Moon, where all of the characters remember you. This is opposite to Black and White 2, but would present some challenges. If the NPCs did remember you, then it would be useless to partake in the Island Challenge or battle the Elite 4 again, unless there is a major overhaul (pertaining to the empty lots found around Alola, perhaps).
    – A sequel involving a different protagonist where we are able to observe changes in the region, more akin to Black and White 2. This may involve Mina having an actual trial, some Trial Captains perhaps being replaced (since they reached the age of 20), a new villainous team, the return of Lillie and Lusamine, etc. Team Skull may even return to help people as Team Reskull, something hinted at by one of the former members during the postgame.

What would you guys prefer? I feel like the latter would allow for some of those holes within Sun and Moon to be patched, especially certain landmarks that felt useless (hotels, Mt. Lanakila) and certain trainers being underdeveloped (Mina, Kahili). However, having a direct sequel where everyone remembers you would be a nice touch, especially considering the cozy feeling of Alola as a whole. Thoughts?

    • I prefer where the game is actually 40% cheaper if you bought S/M, as they have you transferring your S/M account there to continue it off.

      • Idea on Pokemon Eclipse/Stars;
(It’ll be 3ds and Switch for people who don’t want to be forced to buy a new console JUST for it)
It’ll been only about 1 month since the events of Sun and Moon, and by now Lillie returns. Instead of being given a starter, you’ll have the option to use the Pokemon from the prequel, and yes, this time any Pokemon until lvl 100 are usable if you register your previous game.

  2. So to get the IV rater you need to get pretty far into the battle tree
But to get far in the battle tree you’d likely need some good IV pokemon
But to get good IV pokemon you have to have the destiny knot
But to get the destiny knot you have to get far into the battle tree

    And the cycle continues…

Why is the destiny knot 48 BP!?!?!

  3. Just beat the game officially now. Gotta say Sun and Moon are officially my favorite games period. They have a compelling story, great animation, awesome characters/character arcs, and over all the entire region an Pokemon were super enjoyably! Definitely can’t wait for Stars as it’ll only further such a great cast!!! Now to go on and subjugate the rest of the regions gods lol

  4. I think James should get a Mareanie and Jessie should get a Salandit in the anime. They fit well in terms of the themes of past Pokémon they’ve had imo. Along with Bewear and Mimikyu they’d have a pretty solid team.
