Hello everybody, we’re bringing you another Mascot Pokémon Showdown. The winner of last time is Giratina with 56%!
Now it’s time for Unova. Generation V released in 2010 in Japan and in 2011 in the rest of the world. This time, the generation consisted of four games: Black, White, Black 2 and White 2, and introduced amazing features, such as seasons, triple and rotation battles and the Pokémon World Tournament
Pokémon Black Version
Pokémon Black featured Reshiram, the Vast White Pokémon. It is a Dragon/Fire Pokémon that contains almost entirely out of fluff. By flaring the enormous engine-like tail, it can move the atmosphere of the world, which changes the weather.
Reshiram is the only Pokëmon known to be able to learn Fusion Flare and Blue Flare. Together with Zekrom, they were first shown on the Japanese and English website on the same date, which makes them the first two to be revealed worldwide simultaneously. Its name comes from ‘shiro‘ (白, ‘white’) and ‘re‘, which is just a softer sound than ‘ze‘.
Pokémon White Version
Pokémon White showcased Zekrom, the Deep Black Pokémon, 
on its cover. He has a Dragon/Electric-typing with small black wings coming from its shoulders. Like Reshiram, Zekrom has an engine-like tail, but this one produces lightning bolts.
Zekrom has the highest Attack, Defense, and base stat total of all Electric Pokémon. It’s Ken Sugimori’s favorite Pokémon of Generation V. Its name is a combination of ‘kuro‘ (黒, ‘black’) and ‘ze‘, which is just a harder sound than ‘re‘.
Pokémon Black 2 Version
On the case of Pokémon Black 2 is Black Kyurem, a combination of Kyurem and Zekrom. It keeps Zekrom‘s arms, but is much more muscular than it. Its left arm, wing and lower jaw are completely covered in ice.
Black Kyurem has the highest Attack stat of all Ice Pokémon, and together with White Kyurem, it has the highest base stat total of all Ice-type Pokémon. Despite being larger than before it fused, it’s actually lighter than Kyurem. Its name comes from ‘rei‘ (冷, ‘cold’), ‘kyuurei‘ (急冷, ‘rapid cooling’) and ‘rei‘ (零, ‘zero’).
Pokémon White 2 Version
Unlike all other generations, this generation had 2 upgraded 
versions instead of one. On the second version, Pokémon White 2, you can see White Kyurem on the cover. This is a fusion of Kyurem and Reshiram. Its right wing, head plume and upper jaw are frozen.
White Kyurem has the highest Special attack stat of all Ice-type Pokémon, and, as mentioned before, the highest base stat total of all of them. It’s also the tallest Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

Toxic it with Salazzle, Protect, Fire Blast/Flamethrower, Protect, repeat. Ideally this works better on a substitute build but I don’t know what you have to work with, you’d need an exact IV/EV spread for it.
How did I not think to have protect on it
Stall damage through toxic and as high a damage output from Fire as you can muster should do the trick. If only Lycanroc learned Earthquake :/

Shiny Toucannon is one of the best shinies this gen though
I actually really like Trumbeak, it’s Toucannon that makes no sense to me. I don’t know what they were thinking with it’s stat spread either.
I think the options are redundant. Nobody’s going to add it to their party. Sending it to trash is clearly the only option, where else would you send it? And as for seeing it’s summary? You already know it’s trash.

Is level 45 good for Poni Island?
Based on the wild encounters you first encounter, pretty decent (about +4). You’ll do OK against the trainers.

You should be fine. My Pokemon were around the early 50s when I made it to Poni Island, so I turned the Exp Share off. As a result, even though I spent 3/4 of the game with it on, I was underleveled at the Elite Four. But unlike most people here, I challenged the Elite Four as soon as I had access to Mt. Lanakila–no additional grinding. By that point, my Pokemon were around 52-54.

Yeah, even though my Pokemon were slightly underleveled, Hala still swept half of my team. The other members weren’t as bad.
Challenged with Decidueye, Salazzle, Vikavolt, Crabominable, Minior and Oranguru.

For those who think the ruins are tough to navigate: follow the rock piles. They each have a different number of rocks, and the order you go in is 2 3 1 4.

Eh it only took me 4 minutes to find the ruins and the psychium.
I just know from others that it’s a nightmare, it was super simple for me.
I completely skipped over Haina Desert and that small bay area on Melemele.
I forgot until Poni island, and I still haven’t visited Kala’e bay, and the ocean below MeleMele. xD

I’d say they’re equally great in my book.
I’d say they’re great in different ways.
SM has world building and character development, while BW makes you think, which is good.
I just like Team Plasma way better than Skull, who I don’t like at all.
Aether Foundation gave me major Team Plasma vibes, which is great.
Skull reminded me of Team Rocket, but I didn’t quite understand their intentions, which caused me to like them less.
I also -looks around- don’t like their theme music and hate Guzma’s, although I adore that he’s a bug type specialist

I wasn’t a big fan of Guzma’s theme or Skull’s theme music either, to be quite honest. I enjoyed their encounter theme more!
I really appriciate Guzma’s theme for incorporating the aether leitmotif in it, which was phenomenal detail and foreshadowing to team skull being funded by the aether foundation and the teams working together. It’s not often that you see story information like that in a melody, so I highly respect the song for that.

Exactly. A good theme that incorporates both team skull music and a hint of aether while maintaining a unique charm makes for a great track overall.

Listening to it again, I am hearing that slight Aether theme, which does make me appreciate it more. Yet I’m still a bit stuck on what Team Skull’s actual goals were, unlike other villainous teams whose goals were clear.

That’s why they’re perfect IMO, they’d stick with their boss till the end, just out of care and admiration.

Sun and Moon were undoubtedly better than Black and White. The character development in SM was phenomenal (though I wanted even more) and the fact that the Trial Captains and Kahunas had even the slightest backstory and implication outside of their trial is AMAZING. I always complained about Gym Leaders never having any significance to the story, and Sun and Moon delivered EXACTLY what I wanted.
You’re forgetting that Black and White basically started character development for the gym leaders.
But Sun and Moon followed through with that more than BW. How exactly were the Gym Leaders developed in Unova (more because I can’t remember specifics)
Well it was more that they each had a large role in the story (except Brycen or w/e his name was). It was more significant than the role most of the trial captains have played (although I haven’t finished yet)
Did they really? Other than that moment where they all rallied up in N’s Castle I can’t remember them having any other role.
They each did something at one point. I played it this summer, and I grew to like the story more than I had previously.
Gotcha, I’ll have to go back and revisit those games one day.

to be quitely honest. The gym leaders in BW had backstories but no character development which are completely different things. The only character development visible imo was when they all went to confront ghetsis

That’s definitely something the Trial Captains didn’t do, but considering the fact that they are all under 20, there wasn’t much they could do… or was there? The protagonist is 11 years old, after all, and assisted in defeating two villainous teams, saving an entire region, kicking plenty of experienced trainers’ asses…
I still like them all 🙂 The unova gym leaders just set a good precedent, but I think the trial captains have met that but in a different way.
Only Elesa, Iris/Drayden had significant pre-fight pre-gym dialogue, IIRC.

So I’m watching the first two episodes of the Sun and Moon show, but in English this time. It’s actually not bad. I’m not sure about Kukui’s voice, but the rest aren’t too bad. Ash is still Ash so it’s not like his voice changed or anything. Kiawe and Mallows voices are pretty great tho! lol

I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the official art of the new characters we got in the game. I love Nanu and Mina so much!!! lol
At first Nanu seemed like a lazy way of getting by the third Kahuna, but it really fits his personality. As for Mina… I don’t know if her character was rushed in or whatever, because she didn’t really fit. Especially considering the last trial had no captain, it seemed very odd.
They should’ve had a real explaination as to why.
Mina has had a long time to get a trial, and Hapu JUST gets appointed kahuna and she’s ready to battle. xD
Yeah, it was kinda annoying because she seemed interesting and so did the idea of a Fairy-type trial. But I really can’t complain considering we got more battle time than Gyms ever gave us.

Lol that’s not what I meant. But I did mine when I was 6 so they’re crappily painted and possibly broken.
Ah, I’m just joking. I used those clear plastic craft ornaments (the ones that split in two) and used a bunch of glue and glitter, and it turned out pretty well if I do say so myself.

What would you recommend I do since I just beat the Champion? Train up and challenge the Battle Tree? Prepare for E4 rematches? Go through the UB storyline?
I would either do UBs/Tapus since without Destiny Knot/Power Items you aren’t gonna get much of anywhere in breeding let alone the battle tree. And then EV train your team of UBs/Tapus to get BP in Battle Royale or Battle Tree.
Oh and Type: Null, don’t forget to get one. It’s decent against the Battle Tree.

So I have a conundrum. I was planning on playing through Moon after Sun, but now I feel like the story is so special and the characters are so unique that I can’t bring myself to do it. My problem is with the version exclusives. I can get Oranguru, other starters, and even Lunala by trading Littens and my extra Solgaleo, but getting UB -02 Beauty is gonna be a pain. I doubt anyone is gonna want to trade one for keeps.
