Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation II

Today I’m bringing you a new Cover Pokémon Showdown. Perhaps rather unsurprisingly, Charizard won Generation One with 37% of the total votes!
Now it’s time to move onto Johto.

Generation II came out in 1999 in Japan and featured three games, namely Gold, Silver and Crystal. This generation introduced many new features such as Shiny Pokémon and the Dark and Steel type.

Pokémon Gold Versiongold_en_boxart

Pokémon Gold featured Ho-Oh, the Rainbow Pokémon. Ho-Oh is often named the “guardian of the skies”.

Ho-oh is a bird-like Pokémon which resembles a phoenix, leaving a beautiful rainbow behind when it flies. It has a mythical power to resurrect the dead, which can be seen in one of the episodes of Pokémon Generations.

Its signature move is Sacred Fire, a strong damage-dealing move. Ho-oh was the first Generation II Pokémon that was seen in the anime, which was a sign that the franchise would continue after Generation I. Its name comes from ‘Hōō‘ (鳳凰), the Chinese word for phoenix.

Pokémon Silver Version

silver_en_boxartPokémon Silver showed Lugia, the Diving Pokémon, on its cover. It is often referred to as the “guardian of the seas”. It’s also the trio master of the Legendary birds.

Lugia is a Pokémon that is able to control the weather, especially cause and stop storms. Because it knows it has that power, it hides itself underwater to prevent itself rising storms.

Its signature move is Aeroblast. Ho-oh and Lugia are the only Legendary mascot Pokémon that are not seen clashing with each other in the anime. Its name may come from ‘lutetium‘ (a silver element), ‘lugeo‘ (‘I lie dormant’ in Latin) or ‘luna‘ (‘moon’ in Latin).

Pokémon Crystal Version

Pokémon Crystal covered Suicune, the Aurora Pokémon. Suicune 500px-crystal_en_boxart
is the only Legendary beast to appear on a box art.

Suicune has the power to purify water with one touch. It travels the land searching for water to purify.

It is thought to be based on the Qilin, an Eastern legend that has traits of Chinese dragons, unicorns, deer and big cats. Its mane, however is said to resemble the northern aurora. Suicunes name is derived from ‘sui‘ (水, water) and ‘kun‘ (君, monarch).

  1. Comment question: what is your favorite Gen 2 Pokemon and why?

For me it has always and will be Heracross, because he’s helped me so much throughout HeartGold, and is pretty powerful. Plus it’s Mega Evolution is pretty beast and awesome (with those arm cannons tho)

  2. One time I was breeding for a 5IV Bagon, but in the end I gave up and turned my 3DS off. Days later I wanted to use the Day care, but I had to talk to the man because he had an egg. I didn’t want the egg and pressed B the first time and by mistake I pressed A the second time and I took the Egg and boxed it. About 1 month later I decided to hatch all my boxed eggs. guess what did I hatch? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c8d7bffe87c9b18fdc9583e664ff947a87f4d56411be41533384e1067eeee403.jpg

  3. Random question time

What’re you going to call your starter in a Alola? When I reset enough for a female, I’m calling my Primarina Venus.

  4. A dream like Satan’s dream to re enter paradise:

Game Freak reveals that the Datamined Pokemon from the Demo were put in intentionally to trick fans into thinking there are no more new Pokemon, only to surprise us with 30 more Pokemon including a female version for Incineroar and a male version for Primarina.

  5. Random thought: If/When Unova remakes happen one day, if we don’t get a perfectly fused version of Kyuerem named Tao-Kyuerem ima cry.

  6. I’m gonna be honest. I was more excited about Megas when they were first announced than I am about Alolans.
I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get new mega evolutions in Sun and Moon.

    • I don’t entirely agree with you, but I get your point and I do agree with that.
After all, I WAS counting on to see a Mega forms for Chikorita and the likes.

      • They didn’t even need to add that many in my opinion. Something like 5-10 would have been enough to keep the mechanic fresh and exciting.

    • I like Alolans they just failed to flesh it out as fully as Megas. Gimme 5th Gen Alolans and I’ll HYPE the shit out of them. lol

      • I feel like they need a few more. :/

I mean, what happened to Alola dodrio? It was in the Chinese leaks, which have gotten NOTHING wrong.

          • Not the riddler. The ones this very site lumped in with the chinese leaks. the ones deconfirmed because of multiple inconsistencies. Including Alolan Arcanine, which is 100% none existance. In fact that leak only got Rattata semi right.

          • There will be no gyms.
Alola region has no leagues. Your main objective is to build a league. After you finish building a league, the Elite 4 will appear.
The E4 are originally replaced by island leaders. (= Kahuna’s)
Starter’s final forms with be an archer, a wrestler and a siren. Siren is Water/Fairy.
Collect logo diamonds like Mega stones, but a bit different.
Logo diamonds cause Pokemon to transform shape, like Ash-Greninja. (= false)
There will be new dolphin, rugby monkey (=Passimian), snowman, sea cucumber (=Pyukumuku), mushroom (=Morelull)
Rockruff evolves into a werewolf. (Doesn’t mention Rockruff has two forms, but one of them does look like a werewolf).
Mashadow is a mythical Pokémon who has a very unique typing.
There is a fire + poison Pokémon. (= Salandit)
There are many unmarked locations on the map, which form districts; these contain very strong Pokémon, known as overlords. (= Totem Pokémon).

          • the ones I was thinking of didn’t have alolan arcanine in it. So I think we’re thinking of different ones

  7. This one’s easy. Lugia and Hooh look great, but there’s no competition for Suicune (which is itself the best Legendary Dogs) for me. There’s something graceful about it, that just… well surpass the others.

  8. Still disapointed theres only 1 Mega Gen 5 Pokemon. I mean, look at the potential something like Hyrdreigon or Haxorus had.
Instead we get Audino, which I feel only exists cause they forgot to make it fairy.

  9. One more thing is that when a new generation of Pokemon is released, I like using brand new Pokemon in my initial playthrough.

The thing with retconning older Pokemon, be it though mega evolution or Alolan forms, is that it takes away from potential party member (as I wouldn’t consider using them in my first playthrough).

    • YouTube works just as well. xD

I’m trying to play the demo minimally so I can have the most fresh experience with the game as possible.

  11. If the remake Kanto AGAIN They need to remake Gold and Silver again with it. Imagine this: You play through red/blue and there are certain side missions you can do. You can talk to special NPCs and go through the region affecting certain things. Then after that, you unlock G/S mode and you play it normally. How ever, certain things you did in R/B affect things in G/S. NPCs will talk about your previous trainer, you get B2W2 flash backs, special items are found, pokemon you caught in R/B can be found in the wild and the final boss is your trainer and most recent E4 team.

This is my dream pokemon game honestly
