Mascot Pokémon Showdown: Generation II

Today I’m bringing you a new Cover Pokémon Showdown. Perhaps rather unsurprisingly, Charizard won Generation One with 37% of the total votes!
Now it’s time to move onto Johto.

Generation II came out in 1999 in Japan and featured three games, namely Gold, Silver and Crystal. This generation introduced many new features such as Shiny Pokémon and the Dark and Steel type.

Pokémon Gold Versiongold_en_boxart

Pokémon Gold featured Ho-Oh, the Rainbow Pokémon. Ho-Oh is often named the “guardian of the skies”.

Ho-oh is a bird-like Pokémon which resembles a phoenix, leaving a beautiful rainbow behind when it flies. It has a mythical power to resurrect the dead, which can be seen in one of the episodes of Pokémon Generations.

Its signature move is Sacred Fire, a strong damage-dealing move. Ho-oh was the first Generation II Pokémon that was seen in the anime, which was a sign that the franchise would continue after Generation I. Its name comes from ‘Hōō‘ (鳳凰), the Chinese word for phoenix.

Pokémon Silver Version

silver_en_boxartPokémon Silver showed Lugia, the Diving Pokémon, on its cover. It is often referred to as the “guardian of the seas”. It’s also the trio master of the Legendary birds.

Lugia is a Pokémon that is able to control the weather, especially cause and stop storms. Because it knows it has that power, it hides itself underwater to prevent itself rising storms.

Its signature move is Aeroblast. Ho-oh and Lugia are the only Legendary mascot Pokémon that are not seen clashing with each other in the anime. Its name may come from ‘lutetium‘ (a silver element), ‘lugeo‘ (‘I lie dormant’ in Latin) or ‘luna‘ (‘moon’ in Latin).

Pokémon Crystal Version

Pokémon Crystal covered Suicune, the Aurora Pokémon. Suicune 500px-crystal_en_boxart
is the only Legendary beast to appear on a box art.

Suicune has the power to purify water with one touch. It travels the land searching for water to purify.

It is thought to be based on the Qilin, an Eastern legend that has traits of Chinese dragons, unicorns, deer and big cats. Its mane, however is said to resemble the northern aurora. Suicunes name is derived from ‘sui‘ (水, water) and ‘kun‘ (君, monarch).

  1. Another question: if you were in the Pokémon world, what would you be?

    A) A Trainer (and then Regular, Gym Leader, Facility Leader, etc)
    B) A Co-ordinater (Contests, Super Contests or Super Contest)
    C) A Breeder
    D) A job only relevant in the Pokémon world?
    E) A real world job relevant in the world of Pokémon

  3. If you were a gym leader, what region would you be in ( You can choose a type even if that region doesn’t have a leader of that type)

I would be a great Fairy gym leader in either Johor or Sinnoh

  4. What do you think of these stats?

    Solgaleo: 130-110-130-90-130-90

    Lunala: 110-90-90-130-130-130

I see Solgaleo as a tank, due to its type and to the great HP we know it has. Lunala seems really fast in one of the trailer and with two x4 weakness I think It needs speed, cause its ability will help it also having good but not huge defenses/HP. I don’t want Solgaleo to be outclassed by being a M-Metagross poor clone, this is why I prefer it to be a good attacking wall rather then a speedy sweeper.
I mean, if Solgaleo has this spread: 150-150-120-100-90-90, I think M-Metagross will defintly be better also because of its ability and not being a legend, so I hope it doesn’t happen.

  5. Alright guys I’m going to start practice writing for the possible story collabs after SuMo come out as well as my creative English piece (which won’t be Pokémon for obvious reasons but is till helped by honing my writing skills), and I’m wanting to do a tourney arc seeing as I feel I’m okay with battle scenes and I kinda wanna get you guys involved in it because I can’t decide teams for shiz for made up opponents

Alright so basically it’s a ‘masquerade tourney’ where all the participants have their faces and names obscured (with a mask of their ace Pokémon and their Pokejungle user name respectively), mostly for convenience sake. Anyone interested in submitting a character? Even a background character would be cool. All I’d need is like three-six Pokémon for your char, and I’ll take in more details if you’re interested

  7. Sneak peek of that writing thing I’m trying, I’m hilariously rusty so expect a lot of redrafts. This also isn’t necessarily the first chapter, it’s just one of the two I can write just now due to not knowing which three pokemon Serenotic and Sassy Chespins want to use

The arena was shaking, and not just from the powerful Earthquake attack that had just been launched. The audience was roaring with excitement as the first battle of the Masquerade Tournament’s third round kicked off.

Requiem was terrified at the display before him, knowing that either of these two terrific macho monotype trainers could be an opponent later. In fact, he was so terrified he didn’t notice a Swirlix going for his donut until it’s trainer scolded it and offered him an apology, which he graciously accepted.

“Pokémon will be Pokémon.” Requiem stated. And it was true, sometimes Pokémon will do quirky little things. Like smack into a Dragalge so hard with Iron Head that the Dragon Pokémon flinched.

With a grim nod, the Excadrill’s trainer saw his opportunity to set up his strategy. Responding to this, the Pokémon folded into a drill and smashed into the arena floor, churning out a tornado of sand. Only the silhouettes of the two Pokémon were perfectly visible, but neither trainer seemed terribly concerned.

“Iron Head again!” The Ground trainer, Earthen, bellowed. He appeared to be in a vary advantageous position, seeing as his opponent was incapable of moving and in a much worse state than it was.

A flash of silver surrounded the Excadrill as it launched itself into the air and right into the Dragalge’s chest, flooring it.

However, the Dragon trainer, Haxford, didn’t seem fazed. His face may of been obscured by an intricate Haxorus mask, but that much was obvious.

“We got him where want him! Scald!”

Unfortunately, the Excadrill wasn’t lucky enough to get a second flinch, and found itself flung to the other side of the battlefield by a stream of boiling hot water from Dragalge’s maw.

But luck didn’t seem to be smiling down on either competitor, as Excadrill angrily shaked itself dry with no indication of a burn. In the meanwhile, the sandstorm seemed to pick up for a second and battered into Dragalge, before settling suddenly.

    “Swords Dance, and then Earthquake!”

The Excadrill followed its commands, and sharpened its clawed with a dramatic dance before drilling into the ground and shaking things up a bit.

“Draco Meteor at the ground!” Haxford commanded. An odd command, but as an actor, he had a flair for the dramatic.

Dragalge placed its mouth on the ground before calling down meteors of draconic energy to shower the earth itself. The explosions created a smokescreen-but also launched Dragalge upwards, minimising Earthquake’s damage. Both factors allowed Haxford to return the airborne Dragon to its Poké Ball mid fall and substitute it for his Hydreigon.

  10. Is there no way to breed a starter into anything other than a PokéBall? Since you can’t catch them and you only receive them in PokéBalls and only females pass down Ball type?
