Riddler Hints at Salandit’s Evolution & MORE

salanditWe are getting close to Pokémon Sun & Moon’s release and will be using our spoiler image more often to warn people about information they may not want to see.

Today’s post is about the Chinese Riddler who has recently teased information about the evolution of Salandit, one of the Pokémon revealed this summer. They have said that it will relate to one of four characters: a kyūbi (9-tailed fox), Cleopatra, the gorgons or a siren. The below image was included in his post:

img_1366In the description of Salandit, many fans noticed that it mentioned females being able to produce pheromones capable of attracting males of any species, Pokémon and human alike.

See any resemblance to one of those in its appearance or lore? Post your sleuthing and theories down in the comments!

In addition they stated that we do not know everything about the Alolan starters, even after seeing their second evolutions and the leaked third stages. Mysterious!

  1. Here’s my opinion for Pokémon Evolutions this time

100% will have to Evolve at least once:
    Saladit
    Cutiefly
    Bounsweet
    Wimpod
    Komala
    Morelull
    Minior
    Jangmo-o

    Maybe will get one (pre-Evos.):
    Drampa
    Turtornator
    Comfey
    Oricorio
    Pyukumuku

Won’t get one at all no chance:
    Mimikyu
    Oranguru
    Passimian
    Bruxish
    Crabrawler
    Wishiwashi

    • Solid theory, I personally think Bounsweet and Minior are a bit iffy though. Minior’s ability seems too gimmicky to me to get an evo and Bounsweet… I don’t know why, it just seems like one of those weaker pokemon who don’t get an evolution for some reason.

          • If your not paying attention it can be easily missed. Trust me, I was with you in that boat.

          • It’s gotta evolve into “Seniorior” or “Majorior” or “Maxior” or something.
Besides, Flabebe’s line kept its color gimmick.

          • Something like Majoir, or just Major, as in Ursa major sounds best. It will be tied to a constellation, such as Minior is tied to Ursa minor as well as being a pun on mini.

    • I think that Jangmo-o is our pseudolegendary. Comfey feels like the Klefki of this gen so I do not see an evo. I cannot see a prevo for turtornator tbh, but I can see oranguro and passimian having an pre-evolution. imo passimian looks like the second stage evo for a three stage evolution. Bruxish wont evolve, it is the luvdisc/alomomola of this gen but there is a shot it has a prevo ala lumineon. and drampa evo is probably drachild lol

    • It seems more likely that Oricorio won’t evolve, and personally I don’t think Mimilyu will either, it looks like a one-off to me. I’m not sure Comfey will get one, but it does seem to be this generation’s Flabebe.
I do think Oranguru and Passimian will have prevos though, there is loads of design scope to be explored there with a baby orang-utan or some cute lemur holding a berry (it’d be nice to get a more true-to life cute lemur than just the 2m weird buff one we have). I also think Crabrawler might have an evo or prevo.

        • That’s fair, I think Minior will evolve for example. I dunno, I just feel Oricorio feels complete enough as it is, and Dancer makes it viable enough as is. You could say the same for Minior’s ability, but if it’s rather base stage-ish design and name don’t hint to an evolution called Mightior, I’ll be heavily surprised.

          Reply
      • Oricorio was already iffy but I thought hey they done unexpected things before and Mimikyu too and I feel Crabrawler may get one I agree but and Passimian and Oranguru seem like Sawk and Throh to me

  2. I think Black and White are the only games where I actually want to use the legendary. I love how they hype you up to be a hero chosen by the legendary pokemon. I’ve replaced Mandibuzz with Reshiram to play through the post game in Black version

  3. So I’m lazy and I’m just trying to Action Replay my pokemon up to level 80-90 just to fight Cynthia and the E4 and maybe the game designers in black version and I accidentally gave myself 1,000,000 xp .-.

  4. Over time I’ve stopped caring about what the riddler has to say, I mean, their hints are too obtuse to actually guess what they mean, we can only look back and see what they have gotten right.

      • It is but it frustrates me when all he leaks are the lists that only has what we 100% know and add odd pictures to things (not the Toucan but like the statues and the one picture of a random girl), also not adding obvious things like Komala or Bounsweet getting Evos. (We all know it will happen)

        Reply
        • The thing is he probably hasn’t seen their evolutions. He doesn’t claim to know the whole pokedex, Just that he’s in a position to see some of them before they’re anounced. Why put question marks after pokemon that he isn’t 100% will have one or two evolutions when it would just make him look like a fool if they don’t.

          Reply
          • I’m not saying that they don’t, I believe they do, but I feel that the leaker understands it’s irresponsible for him to leak things he can’t be 100% certain of. So let’s say they have 2 evos instead of one, if he puts one question mark and it turns out they have 2 it will make the things he does know for certain seem less plausible because he guessed something he didn’t know.

        • It’s from an older generation so I guess Isthme thinks if it’s from say Gen.5 or 6 it will be permanently set in what Gen. line it’s from

        • The only way to get an Alolan variant would be to catch one in Alola, all pokemon that have one and are transferred up will be a kanto variant from what they have told us

          Reply
          • So people who only have gen 7 games will only be able to get Alolan Raichu unless they are able to trade with someone with transferred ones? I find that odd, almost like a retcon.

          • Well… I mean they have said it multiple times that the only way to get them is by transferring, its not like they haven’t done it before, you cant get all pokemon in the gen 6 games without transferring. Im sorry to say this but I am 95% sure that you will not be able to just evolve old ones to get the Alolan forms

          • Oh well, I will still try, worst that can happen is I have original Shiny Raichu and Exeggutor. Personally I thought this pertained to Vulpix, Sandshrew etc, not those that start original and then evolve into the new forms.

          • It give them a reason to play through the eshop Pokemon Blue version, I plan on getting yellow. I just wished I could evolve my Pikachu in that and still have it follow me.

          • I guess, but that counts out Egg Moves, Hidden Abilities, Nature control and Shiny-ness, even if IV’s can now be Maxed in the (likely limited bottle-cap) Hyper Training.

          • True, though I don’t think bottle caps will be limited. Likely just extremely hard to get. Golden Bottle caps however will likely be limited. I look forward to be able to amp up my Mawile, she’s my strongest Pokemon. I hope I can get her Mega Stone pretty early on. At least on my second and true play through.

          • Disagree I wish they are super expensive
That way people won’t be able to Supe up their legends for about….2 weeks maybe a month until everyone just starts hacking……

          • When I say just for BP, I mean for a lot of BP. I just think it’s better than the other 2 options I said they may be obtained by.

          • I don’t think they’ve confirmed anything, but logically only pokemon native to Alola would get the Alolan forms. Why would a pichu born in kanto or whatever turn into an alolan raichu just by being in Alola? I believe it has to do with genetics at this point. And I don’t see why not being able to get the original forms in Alola is that bad, it’s another gen, another region and they could not even have added these pkm in the game. We can get gen 1 pkm from RBY

          • Because it could’ve had another evolution method? Obtaining in RBY is all well and good unless you care about Egg Moves, Nature, Ability, Type of ball they are in beyond those of gen 1, Gender etc, y’know stuff that didn’t exist or you couldn’t control in those games. None of that affects me as such as I can breed most of what I want in gen 6, not everyone will be able to. I agree it probably is genetic coding.

          • Well we don’t know that yet so I’ll still hold out on evolving him. I would find it odd we couldn’t get original Raichu outside of transfer

    • It’s a good idea to just hold out and try it at least.

If it works, great, you now have two shiny Alolan shinies! If it doesn’t, well you still have a shiny non-alolan Raichu and Exeggutor even if they’re stuck in Sun and Moon.

      Reply
      • Yeah, I’ll be happy with them either way, I was just looking forward to finding out exactly what their Alolan Shiny forms were myself. Still no doubt they’ll be discovered by others soon enough.

  5. I just noticed something: in the new trailer Hau says “. . . think you’re going to beat me and my team when were serious about winning!” Presumably he says “don’t” before that, it’s the only thing that makes sense. It’s unlikely but it’d be a fun twist to have him be a pushover all game and then during his final battle be a serious threat.

  6. I wish they could make an Ancient-Egyptian based Pokemon like a Pyramid Pokemon which is Ground-Psychic, or a Phaorh pokemon.

    Reply
    • Though not Egyptian themed I was working on an Arabian Pokemon
      Spellsufi and Magenie
      Spellsufi
      Psychic
      Magic Bounce/Overcoat
It is a petite humanoid Pokemon with blackish blue skin and large eyes, it has a jeweled turban like structure on its head that extends a long cloth from the back and wrapping around its arms, waist and thighs like a veil and those pointed genie shoes for feet
“They use a veil created from psychic energy to protect them from harsh desert heat, when the sun sets they gain mysterious powers from the moonlight”

      Magenie
      Psychic
      Magic Bounce/Overcoat
A large Arabian genie like Pokemon with a multicolored flowing robe with gold, magenta and blue textile patterns, its head has a large turban with a bigger gem in the forehead and three pairs of eyes each with a different pupil color (Green orange and purple) a long wispy tail (no legs) and at the very tip of the tail is a golden orb that says to hold vast amounts of energy
“Magenie are thought to hold untold amounts of power but it is only capable through the pure desires of its trainer, if it senses that its trainer is greedy it will curse them and abandon them forever”

  8. So what if Salandit turns into one of those 6-legged basalisk kinda deals that can turn ppl to stone with a glare like gorgons do? I mean, I guess we already got Giritina for that look though, but I don’t think it’d be too bad seeing another take on it. Like, Jangmo-o seems to be gunning for Dialga’s typing, so reusing stuff from legendaries onto more common pokemon wouldn’t be too far fetched.

    Reply
    • My main issue with that would be that it completely leaves the bandit theme, unless it somehow uses all those legs to help it steal.
I agree about using things again that first appeared with Legendaries, they did that with Drought and Drizzle for example.

      Reply
      • I still wish Mega Camerupt got drought and like a solid 50-50 defense boost but nope it’s frail and slower then ever and completely useless without trick room or sunlight

        Reply
        • I guess it getting Drought would have been cool. It couldn’t be too much better than Sharpedos’ Mega because of the whole counterpart thing. The only reason Sharpedo is particularly better is that it can have Speed Boost before going Mega. Camerupt doesn’t have anything particularly useful beforehand. I really think Camerupt got a bit of a poor deal all round. The reason it’s slow is because they made it bulky, but it’s defences don’t really reflect that. Real camels can be pretty fast, I get that it has to lug around volcano humps, perhaps if it were a bit leaner it would be faster.

          Reply
          • All the Ground Megas got the poor deal
Garchomp should be slashing but that mesely drop in speed ruined it
Steelix is just a Aggron clone but with all its weaknesses still present
            Camerupt absolutely horrid
and Swampert….only when it rains it reigns supreme but ehhh it’s not super dangerous

  9. Hmm I’m assuming it’s gonna have a big gender difference or evolve into a completely different pokemon depending on the gender, but still this guy/girl is going on my team.

  10. Tigermasku’s comment had me thinking- if you could create a new status condition (or even a minor one like attract or confusion) what would it be!?

    Reply
    • drenched: cuts speed in half (lasts as longs as sleep, with the same chance of being cured between turns like sleep, “Purugly’s no longer Drenched!” or “Bewear dried off!”) makes you resist water type and fire type attacks for the duration, but weak to electric. lasts longer in rain, doesn’t last as long during strong sunlight. this is now what the move “Soak” does, and moves involving a lot of water have a chance to cause this condition, like surf and hydro pump. pokemon with water absorb and dry skin are immune to this effect.

      Reply
      • Don’t know if you’d call this a status condition but I’d love something that scares a pokemon back into its ball forcing it to only come out when it’s the scary pokemon’s fainted or gets switched out or if the scared pokemon is the last one on a team. Seems a bit op so it could be limited to a legendary.

    • Rust, a poison status that applies to Steel types. I know salandit covers this somewhat, but it would be interesting and realistic in-universe to have rust as an attack, and a poison type move with more wide pokémon usage, but less effective range as a tradeoff (it’s not like it’ll hurt non-steel types). There could even be abilities for non-rusting metal pokémon!

    • As a gay guy who loves his princesses and girly things too, I hate the meganium line and the popplio evos equally. For starters I’ve always liked more ambiguous designs because they are made for everyone. Others like gardevoir and Liligant can be passed up for others if you don’t like them but a starter is your first of a type and can set the stage for the game. I love popplio so I’m just not evolving him.

  12. Meganium wa a very female looking line why didnt they had in the past objections with too menly/musculine looking female versions of some other pokemon???

    Reply
  13. Maybe it will be based on like a succubus. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a pokemon that could change gender based on the opponents gender? It might be a one trick pony but I think it would be nice.

    Reply
  14. Well a Nine Tailed Fix tricks people by using the female form. Female Salandit lures people and Pokemon by pheromones. Sirens lure in people as well. Cleopatra presented herself like Isis, the godess. She was known to represent marriage and love and seduction. The Gorgons is the one I cant find much correlation with.
