RUMOR: Pokémon Sun & Moon Include 103 New Pokémon

alola-dex-rumorRUMOR ALERT: The information contained in this post is based on speculation, not fact. Please treat it as such and do not interpret it is confirmed news.

A user on an anonymous image board has posted what purports to be the full Alolan Pokédex, excluding new “Alolan forms” of previously released Pokémon. If it is correct, there are 103 new Pokémon in the Alola region which would be 30 more new Pokémon than X & Y and roughly the same amount as Gold & Silver. There are, however, many evolution families listed which appear to have different forms for the same Pokémon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Screw. The. Leakers. I will not be covering the names or any other information about this “leak” because there is too much risk considering the advanced information that has already made its way to the public from the Chinese rumors. We’re still too far away from the release of these games to ruin everything for fans. There’s a difference between enjoying speculation and rumors (which we do) and spoiling everything online (which they do). There is a line of what I think is fun pre-release hype and what is stupidly early to reveal, and I think this is one of those things that crosses that for me. Hope you guys understand and perhaps even agree. If we hadn’t gotten such credible leaks this year I’d have no qualms about posting it for dissection.

  1. these “leaks” always come out before cororcoro or trailer is coming out. most of them were fake. this list could of been made little by little and he/she just added the new pokemon as time went on

          • I don’t agree with really any of the choices
            Exeggutor shouldn’t be a Dragon
            Ninetales shouldn’t be a Fairy
And Sandslash shouldn’t be Steel it just doesn’t provide any soild information on those additional types

          • Because they did it wrong
I can accept how extreme microclimates can alter a Pokemon but secondary types out of nowhere really grind my gears

          • Exeggutor is based on a dragon palm tree.
And Sandslash/Sandshrew’s info say it’s ice body is as hard as steel, and the claws on Sandslash are steel.
I dunno what inspiration could have caused the Fairy typing, but the idea that it’s a gentle mirage spirit could be it, I dunno.
            Anything could happen

          • “Yes since we found out
            Since we found out
            That anything could happen
            Anything could happen”

          • As steel doesn’t mean it is steel, maybe if they said the artic region had high levels of mineral deposits that clung to their skin and eventually fused then it would make sense

          • regular ninetales is already mysticy, it could be fire/ghost with the whole ‘Cursed if you look at it wrong’ thing.

          • But it was made ice/fairy to show that a pokemon had to change depending on the climate it adapted from

          • I’m glad it’s ice and fairy. I guess I’m kinda protective over the Ice/Ghost type since Froslass is one of my favorites and it has a unique type. But we’re getting that snowman so oh well

          • Yeah, same here. I was talking more so about original Ninetales xD I felt like it should have been Fire/Ghost to start with, but pure fire is fine

          • Impossible Rhydon’s and Rhyperior’s bodies are able to withstand the heat
Rhyhorn can too but to a lesser extent

          • did i say it cant handle heat? no. If it couldnt handle heat it wouldnt grow molten lava rock all over it

          • Yeah but are we battling no, we are discussing the freaking effects of evolution of freaking Pokemon existing in a extremely differing environments and how that has altered their appearance and abilities

          • It could be advantageous for the rhy-line to incorporate fire-typing without needing it to survive in a volcano. It’s useful against grass types for instance. Plus it doesn’t have to be a survival condition for them to assimilate the fire type. They might just do it because they can. Would still make complete logical sense. If it’s not disadvantageous, a mutation can take hold. Evolution isn’t just driven by the necessity of survival, it’s driven by random chance and contingency.

          • it has to be in this case
            Otherwise these forms wouldn’t exist

How many times do I have to say it, these are environmental changes, Exeggutor is bathed in sunlight year round, Sandshrew and Vulpix fled to the icy north

How does that justify a Poison/Dark Luxray or a bleeping Fire/Steel Seaking, it just doesn’t

          • Like I said in my explanation, in my expanded info, humans drove the species to the toxic volcanic areas. It had to adapt a tolerance to them to survive. Plus the prey there know about the toxin, so they had to use underhanded tactics to eat. The ones who randomly were born to tolerate and eat lived on. Bam, survival right there.
Is it perfect? No, but nothing is.
Plus, mutations are random chance. Some mutations appear and it turns out it helped out the species just a bit more.

          • Ech… Did you read what I said? Do you understand how evolution works IRL? The fact is from the Alola forms we already have, the first ones bloody revealed, we can see it’s not just simple environmental adaptation, however much you wish it was. I’m sorry about you being confused because it goes beyond where you put your line in the sand as to what amount of logic is sufficient, but it just isn’t simply environmental variation. It’s environmental variation with bells and whistles such as auxilliary types, with some justification. It’s also ecological factors such as competitive exclusion leading to fire and ground types that would otherwise be just peachy on a tropical island paradoxically migrating to icy heights and being forced to adapt there.
And it’s not just slow local adaptation either, it’s also instant-change phenotypic plasticity like Exeggutor.

The thing is, there’s real-life or in-universe conceptual justification to all of these choices, and that’ what led game freak to create these forms.

Now I’d agree people are getting quite overexcited and taking things too far in some cases (I don’t know what the conceptual inspiration for a fire-steel seaking would be apart from personal taste for example), and I personally would rather game freak stuck to ideas that either have biological or cultural inspiration, or are very unique and clever, like all pokémon usually are.

But the fact is within the strictures of the pokémon world any type evolution could be justified through evolutionary theory, and your view of what that theory constitutes here is too narrow to accommodate even existing Alola forms. One could come up with multiple environmental, ecological and genetic justifications for any given type combination, for any pokémon, and it would still make some sense.

The key question afterwards I guess is whether you’re using a sound conceptual inspiration or a worthwhile creative idea (ideally both), and that for the wizards at game freak to judge. Some fan ideas do indeed seem to be too wishy-washy, but really you never know with GF. I think in many cases the call really is down to subjective tastes and logic as to wether a form could be made. And the fact you can’t/won’t agree with the current existing forms isn’t gonna help you with that.

      • Who knows, but would anyone have predicted, given knowledge of the concept of Alola forms, ice type vulpix and sandshrew in Alola of all places???

        Reply
        • I still don’t approve of them, they really mucked up the system, it was fine to change primary typing but when they add stuff then it causes trouble

          Reply
          • The only “system” it really mucked up is the one you made sense of the pokémon world through. Clearly if the first Alola forms revealed break the preconceptions you have of what Alola forms should be, then your own system is too narrow to accommodate the breadth of the concept, and it’d be easier to try and revise it or you’ll probably keep getting frustrated.

          • I like things that make fucking sense, you guys just want new type combos for things and half the time you never back it up, you understand that half the shit I pitch is believable, I’m not just spouting nonsense I put my brain to think of how this things actually freaking work

          • Yes because people used it as a dumbass wildcard to get shit they wanted, “oh I want a Water/Grass Volcarona why I dunno it just would be cool” “or this mega Milotic should happen because I want it”
Just so much annoying things from stupid people

I do not accept anything without reason or logic, I simply must demand the utmost of reality in something I truly follow

          • How would that be hypocritical at all
They’re already freaking from the Alola region WHAT POSSIBLY WOULD THEY HAVE A FORM

          • I know it doesn’t make sense! That wasn’t the point. Just pretend he was from another region or something and it was Water/Fairy. You say that people use these forms to get what they want. If they made a form that was Water/Fighting you’d be all over that because it is what you want.

          • Because that’s not how things fucking work bro
They work because cold hard facts and logic state how they change because of their environment

          • Yet there are moments in Pokemon where logic doesn’t work, okay? Plus, any species can adapt to any environment.
Like seriously, you talk all the time about your wishes and what you want, but crap on people who talk about their wishes. We don’t do the same for you.
I’m sorry you don’t get what you want, but that doesn’t mean you get to step over what other people want.
I don’t normally get this way, but seriously, you need to cool down and stop.

          • This has nothing to do with what I want, this is about how THEY turn out, I’m thinking solely about the Pokemon and how it will evolve not how I want it to turn out

          • Yes it does! Your Popplio evolution, even with the logic, is basically STILL a wish. Something you want to happen. Just like our Alolan Form ideas, we put logic in them too, but it’s also a wish. Doesn’t mean your ideas are superior to ours. Doesn’t mean you can deny them.

          • And yet you wanted Popplio to be water/fighting without any logical reasoning. And nobody asked for a Water/Grass Volcarona. Way to exaggerate.

          • Because in the official site it is stated that Popplio incorporate acrobatic stunts through the use of their bubbles
Evolution would allow them to build stronger muscles to gracefully swim and vault themselves into the air, to preform elegant stunts that could also serve as a dangerous fighting style

          • Did you not read what I said, using their acrobatic jumps and precision they build up their muscles to preform elegant attacks

          • “Popplio’s swimming speed is known to exceed 25 mph. It’s better at moving in the water than on land. Still, when it’s on land, it takes advantage of the elasticity of its balloons to perform acrobatic stunts and jumps.”

          • What does that have to do with Popplio, you’re just pulling that out of nowhere without reason. It’s based on a Clown, so I’ll give you acrobatic, but in no way does acrobatic mean fighting.

Stop making things up without reason Earthern, we don’t even know of any fighting type moves it learns.

          • Omfg you plebeians
It is a clown, that makes me think of preformers
And the very moment it said it preformers acrobatic stunts using its bouncy bubbles I thought of a acrobatic, and with its ruffle it makes me think of those fancy Cirque De Sole performers where they do all that crazy airborne stunts
I never pull anything out of nowhere (ignoring my magic satchel jokes)
And evolution would allow it to be stronger and develop these skills and allow it to turn any battle into a dazzling performance since that’s what they do

          • Martial Arts is in no way a dazzling performance. Watch UFC and you’ll see.
What you’re describing sounds more like dancing. From an acrobat, into a dancer. Fairy sounds about right for a Popplio evolution.

          • You cannot be more wrong
Martial Arts can be the most elegant and spectacular visual display of body and soul

          • “but in no way does acrobatic mean fighting”
You’ve obviously never seen the chinese circus where they combine acrobatics and martial arts.

  2. Speaking of Sinnoh remakes, they would never do this, but I would love if they included locations from the anime like Alamos Town (From Rise of Darkrai) and Michina Town (from Jewel Of Life)

I really like these areas and they could be a way of implementing the event pokemon into the game

    Reply
    • It’s something that would be fun, it would add in more things to do. Hopefully S/M has DLC so we’re able to go do more.

      Reply
    • Speaking of sinnoh remakes as well, Pokemon has been getting easier recently, so I hope they don’t ruin the difficulty that the originals presented. I love the games for that, playing platinum right now actually.

        • It’s a long overdue feature, that as far I as know got positive reception in BW2. The only reason I can think of why they wouldn’t be back is because of time constraints.

          Reply
          • it wasn’t good in B2W2 because you had to beat the game once to get it, which sucked since you never really want to start over your save until the next game or two comes out and you send your pokemon there so you don’t have to get rid of your emotional investment.

          • Still better than nothing. The lack of any challenge in XY was unnacceptable to me, I hope that it never happens again. Just give us options at the start, and everyone is happy.

          • XY was weird to me, the first 2 gyms had a divide that was maybe a bit too long between them, and then you just keep plowing through, you only use surf in like 2 places, the route immediately after you get it, and victory road, I think. you only backtrack once, not including returning to lumiose, and that’s to stop team flare. and even then I feel like it’s just thrown in there, no reason. DPPt had you go after the evil team after the 7th badge, but it wasn’t haphazardly placed, you had to get the badge to continue the plot, it wasn’t just there.

      • Pokemon hasn’t been getting easier, you’ve been getting better.
That and the new exp share mechanic makes levelling up go quicker.

    • I made a comment on one of the other articles about how they should include locations from the films. Mewtwo’s secret lab/fort was a really neat location.

  3. With the amount of attack oriented ice types we seems to be getting at this rate, I really hope this means they’re buffing the type. It is the hands down worst type and that sucks because I love it!

Hopefully we can get some good new ice moves and abilities and maybe even some tweaks to the type chart

  4. well heres my take
Alolan forms are basically a opening to future regions inhabiting older pokemon who gained new looks, types, and ability depending on where it adaptation took place. so Alola is tropic we could see a region with mostly deserts(Egypt) a Icy region (Sweden etc) and much more, pokemon being able to do this new thing with forms opens up the many doors of possibility

          • Its not fun, its annoying that he’s able to get away with it. He’s rude and goes against the whole community aspect of this site; shooting down others ideas with a full force insult cannon and not allowing us to get a word in edge wise. He’s been blocked by me personally, a long time coming.

  5. If the starters have one alternative final form each, that would explain why they took a chance on so questionable designs that more than obviously would disappoint most fans.

  6. Thought of a cool idea for an alolan Froslass. I guess it is kinda similar to Popplio 3, but what if it became a Water/Ghost type and trapped sailors under the sea kinda like how Froslass kidnaps travelers in the snow

  7. I’m not saying these leaks are true but what it shows us DO line up with stuff from the Chinese leak as well as Rockruffs possible secret. As he clarified, the firtle cat, Snowman, Ground/Fighting(Rugby Monkey), Sea Cucumber, Dolphin, and Mushroom were all mentioned in a previous leak, that being the Chinese Leak. As for Rockruff’s secret that it shares with the starters, that’s seeming the various typings for the final evos which also lines up Chinese leak saying there MAY BE Two final evos for the starters but not NOT CONFIRMED, making it possible to be more than two which this leak shows. Also Rockruff evo in this leak is a Werewolf as the Chinese leak says. Again, I’m not saying it’s real but it’s looking really credible so far. Anyways we’ll know soon enough.

    Reply
    • But think about it.The points you made can be summed up with: they took what someone else has said and made names for those pokemon making sure to keep every aspect of the leaks in the list. Everything matches up with a leak thats been out for weeks. If this preceded the chinese leak, I’d believe them. But that list could just have easily been created on the fly as more info was “leaked” and as long as things match up, a lot of people suddenly see legitmacy.

  8. Alright, what do you expect to see from corocoro (exclusively) and the 12th update, since it’s due any day now?
    Personally, I expect:
    – 2-3 Alola forms
    – 2 new Pokemon, probably and ice type.
And from the August 12th update:
    – 2 new Pokemon on top of CoroCoro
    – Trial Captains and Kahuna

  9. Im disappointed these came out, but Im glad PJ decided not to showcase them. It’s unfortunate that the list could potentially be leaked, but there are too many red flags (like making us wait to the last island to potentially get a starter form. NO THANKS) that are keeping me from jumping on the legit ship. I can see why people could find these to be real, but I’m gonna let it set sail without me. Ill be happily awaiting the Corocoro to see if it legitimizes this. Personally, I think we’re getting megas so we’ll see.

    • Nobody said that the starter evos would be based on islands. Sure, it’s possible and likely but doesn’t make any difference. Making us wait for the final starter type and not evolving our starter for like the 3/4 of the game is dumb.

      Reply
      • That’s what I’m saying, and people are saying Rockruff and the starters are given different forms depending on where they evolve.

        • imo thats way to complex xD. No I don’t want to evolve Rowlet in level 36 on island two, because I want the one I will get when evolving on island 4 xD, so it evolved in level 56

          • lol im not following. (And I call myself a diehard pokemon fan… im not as knowledgeable as I think lololol)

          • In Kanto in Gen I you can choose to Challenge Sabrina, Koga, and Erika in any order due to the fact they don’t require the other’s badge. blaine has to be fought after Koga however, but can still be fought before sabrina and erika. in gen II/IV you could do the mahogany town stuff before Jasmine and Chuck, and you could choose which Order most if not all Kanto Gyms in, except Blue in Gen 4 where you need all the others.
Satoshi(Ash) also beat the kanto gyms weird in the anime.

          • I’m pretty sure we’re gonna have some sort of post game because of Zygarde, so I think we’re safe on that.

          • i put my money on the types change when using a particular Z attack power.

Wished we will getting female male versions of the starters finally this generation though.

  10. So that explains about the typing from decoding the Japanese website.

    Grass/Flying/Ground/Fire/Water/Fighting

It all makes sense now. Because depending on which island the starters will evolve on, Robinroot will become either Grass/Flying, Grass, ”Grass/Ground” or Grass/Electric. Beltigre will become either Fire/Dark, ”Fire”, Fire/Ghost or Fire/Poison. And Sirene will become either Water/Fairy, Water, ”Water/Fighting” or Water/Psychic.

I presume the only one type could be done on which island has the type.

  11. If people like the chinese leaker and this list know the pokemon, why do we not have any rough sketches??? Plus, the chinese leaker only said “the starters are based on an archer, a wrestler, and a mermaid” in order to make him look credible since that image had already came out. Im standing firm on these but am willing to be proven wrong.

    • Plus: guessing the no gyms and the birds with different forms makes him pretty credible. However, no pictures were given nor were trial captains mentioned which makes me think they were just lucky guesses. Sorry if it seems like im in denial.

I got all of my neighbors to be south of the river (lots of resetting), carefully planned the city so it would have 6 neighborhoods (inspired by Paris), a huge French garden, a main avenue, a pergola path and a bunch of other stuff. I stopped playing bcuz I moved abroad and had better things to do lol + by that point I had already memorized all of the phrases my neighbors used.

  16. Personally I’m not one for people leaking this stuff on one hand but on the other, I’m kinda glad that they did. One of the advantages that came with having Pokemon released in Japan first was that I could plan my team out ahead of time instead of having to deal with the hassle of trying to switch about 10 or so Pokemon around as I went along trying to decide what to use and this kinda helps me narrow this stuff down.

I do wish this post had a bigger image so I could read what all of the names are. (And we had images of what everyone looked like)
