RUMOR: Pokémon Sun & Moon Include 103 New Pokémon

alola-dex-rumorRUMOR ALERT: The information contained in this post is based on speculation, not fact. Please treat it as such and do not interpret it is confirmed news.

A user on an anonymous image board has posted what purports to be the full Alolan Pokédex, excluding new “Alolan forms” of previously released Pokémon. If it is correct, there are 103 new Pokémon in the Alola region which would be 30 more new Pokémon than X & Y and roughly the same amount as Gold & Silver. There are, however, many evolution families listed which appear to have different forms for the same Pokémon.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Screw. The. Leakers. I will not be covering the names or any other information about this “leak” because there is too much risk considering the advanced information that has already made its way to the public from the Chinese rumors. We’re still too far away from the release of these games to ruin everything for fans. There’s a difference between enjoying speculation and rumors (which we do) and spoiling everything online (which they do). There is a line of what I think is fun pre-release hype and what is stupidly early to reveal, and I think this is one of those things that crosses that for me. Hope you guys understand and perhaps even agree. If we hadn’t gotten such credible leaks this year I’d have no qualms about posting it for dissection.

  1. Also, how are we supposed to read this? It’s too blurry. We need it typed out. The people who don’t like leaks don’t have to read every article.

    • Oh god. I hate leakers so much! The names of the Islands were also mentioned in GameXPlain’s theory but one can easily assume the Island names due to the colors of the birds and where they will likely be found and because the first Island’s name means Yellow and the Second means Green. And the whole Litten evolution on four legs is a bunch of bullcrap. That leaker is just saying that to hit some nerves.

      Reply
      • There was also some sign of sorts in front of the entrance of Lush Jungle that had the colors Red, Yellow, Pink, and Purple. And it has been confirmed the second island is called Akala, which means pink.

    • T_T No just… Just no
AZ’s Floette is clearly much much different than any puny Floette
      -It holds an Eternal Flower
-Existed in Kalos for 300 Years
      -Owned by AZ’s Mother
This is just not an Alolan Variant

People we need to remember what Alolan Variants actually are, they are specifically environmentally altered/adapted

      Reply
    • I don’t think any of the Alolan forms will have significantly higher BSTs than their original forms, which AZ’s floette has.

      Reply
    • I doubt it. AZ had Floette for years and it seems like Alolan Forms are currently restricted to Kanto Pokemon for the 20th Anniversary! Neat thought tho!

      Reply
      • I don’t see why people are jumping to that conclusion so soon. We literally only got three lines, totalling five Pokemon. If you want the math, that’s roughly 0.7% of the existing Pokemon that could receive Alolan forms. It’s highly illogical to make such an assumption as “only Kanto Pokemon will receive Alola variants” this early on.

        Reply
        • Obviously, I don’t want this to be the case! Just based on the recent leaks, it seems like it’s just Kanto Pokemon. It’s why I said “it seems like”. Judging GameFreak, it might be the case to bring back long time fans!

  2. How do you think breeding Kanto Alola forms will go in terms of not using Ditto?
I’m assuming if I breed a normal Ninetales with an Alola Ninetales, the result would be based off a gender, most likely having the baby be based off the Male.

    Reply
      • If you bred two finches from one island on another island, the offspring would still be the same as the parents. It would take generations to evolve to the variant of the new island. The same is likely the case with Alolan Pokemon: two Kanto Ninetales would make a Kanto Vulpix, even when bred in Alola.

        Reply
      • I would say probably not, that would make no sense, I think if you breed two ice you would get ice and if you bred two fire you would get fire. I think it would work like previous forms like Pumpkaboo and shellos where if you breed two different forms it would inherit the moms form.

  3. For all of you that think it’s fake just because it doesnt metion fossil pokemon, well I live in an Island, we have never had fossil pokemon, like dinosaur or birds Because our land came from the water, those part of land didnt appear like Africa, America or those country.

  4. This just drives me nuts. I really think these leaks are kinda legit actually and that we got another Insider on our hands. Sun and Moon has done a lot of unique stuff and I can totally see the Starters evolving into something dependant on what Island you’re on. Sure, the way the leaker worded it with Litten may be pulling our chain and being a dick about it, but I can kinda see this happening.

  5. What Alolan Form do you guys want to see most? I want to see a Water/Dragon Dragonite or a Psychic Machamp. I’m keeping my wants to Kanto for now! Yet, you could provide Pokemon outside of Generation One.

    Reply
    • I want a Mega Dragonite instead of an Alola Form. I think the Alola Forms take away the chance of a Pokémon getting a mega and I certainly don’t want that. All pseudos should get a Mega and nothing else.

      Reply
        • But 4/7 got them already so for pattern fulfillment sake they should happen as they have before :p
It’s just not fair otherwise, and looks wrong on paper too.

          • GACK. I find that idea absolutely revolting. As much as I hated megas when they first appeared, I’ve grown to appreciate them for what they are. A retcon on that scale is a mind-bogglingly horrendous idea that wouldn’t sit well with most fans and would perturb what we got used to in competitive.

Obviously just my opinion though 🙂 , though every time I see the opinion megas should be removed expressed I want to bury whoever said it in my vomit haha.

          • I’m not saying get rid of all Megas, but some of them, like the Pseudos, have bad designs and are no better than they were without them..

          • Well, their design quality is really a matter of taste, Tyranitar for instance seems pretty universally approved, and metagross and salamence have designs that may not appeal to some, but that conceptually are pretty difficult to fault. The only weak design IMO (concept-wise, I don’t mind it that much but wish we got something better) is Garchomp, it’s just sort of more monstrous and bulky for no clear conceptual reason.

And wouldn’t removing some megas make even less sense than removing all of them? I get that you might not want them to exist, but surely selectively culling megas is just so unlikely it’s not a possibility worth exploring?

          • Yeah, exactly my point. 4 of the 7 existing got megas. They should give Dragonite and Hydreigon a mega this gen and Goodra and the new one in the one after that. Removing Mega Evolution would be the dumbest thing they could do after spending so much time building a story around it. Removing like 30 almost new Pokémon is just pointless. They should nerf Mega Rayquaza tho.

          • Couldn’t agree more, except about mega Rayquaza, I think it’s quite amusing it has a tier of it’s own. But yeah they should probably nerf Delta Stream, it was a very stupid idea.

      • YES I WAS ABOUT TO SAY THIS THANK YOU. If I could like this ten times over I would.

Maybe it’s my slightly OCD attachment to patterns, but I think Alola forms should exist in parralel to megas, not as a replacement.

Mega dragonite should indeed reflect the grace and poise (as well as the blue colour) of dragonair if it’s to be a successful design IMO, but if such a desing is born it needs the stats to compete with it’s peers, not just a rearrangement.

If we get alola dragonite, hydreigon, frosslass, slowking, milotic etc rather than megas, as much as I think regional forms are a better concept than megas, I will be absolutely fuming.
It was bad enough megas stole evolutions from pokémon like Banette and Houndoom that had sooooo much potential for great evolution concepts. (In fact I’m still hoping we get branched megas/evos at some point. Scyther cruelly needs a mega hahaha).

That being said I wouldn’t mind variant pseudos, as long as we got megas too. That would be a hell of a mess though.

More forms might make things messy on appearance, but they should have a semblance of underlying logic rather than just catering to hyping whatever new form type they come up with each generation (and god forbid we get more than megas and regional variants).

        Reply
        • I wouldn’t mind Mega Dragonite staying the color it already is, but some blue and resemblance to Dragonair would certainly make it more majestic. Tbh, Dragonite was my least favourite pseudo until quite recently when I decided to train up a Dratini I got from a random egg. I started using it in Maison and it just felt soooo good. It’s my favourite pseudo now. Wishing for a Mega…

          Reply
          • Yeah blue isn’t essential, but not reflecting Dragonair would be a crime. As much as I love Dragonite’s goofy friendly dragon concept, I can sympathise with people who think it squanders it’s prevolutions’ potential.

My favourite megas are the ones that either use previously unexplored real life concepts and apply them organically to the pokémon, those that push them to their logical extreme, and most of all those that take unexplored elements from their prevolutions and expand them or reuse them. That’s why I think megas like Salamence and Gyarados have the best designs, because they respectively regrow Shelgon’s armour and regain some defense, and embody the Dragon-Carp concept to perfection, better than gyarados does (though it just being a full-on dragon is also coneptually sound). It’s also why I’m dissapointed in megas sceptile which, while awesome and sporting a autotomic tail missile, doesn’t do what it should have done. I’m sorry but Grovyle is very often preferred to it’s evolution design wise, and we should have gotten a darker, grass-flying sceptile with a huge head-leaf to reflect that. Hopefully if we get mega sceptile n°2 someday…

In any case I think Lucario is without a doubt the worst mega-evolution design out there with it’s weird dreadlocks and dinosaur spikes. It looks exactly like what a 5-year old told to make lucario look cooler would create. I can’t discern any visible inspiration in it’s design apart from “let’s pimp it”.

      • Alolan forms with megas are like megas with evos.
Just replace mega with alola form and megas with evos.
I guess as time goes on, the statement still exists but the concepts change

        Reply
        • But Alolan forms will likely just have stat redistributions, thus making pseudos and other pokémon unequal to their mega peers.
Plus it was bad enough when megas replaced evos (I’m still pinng for mega/evo split lines to be a thing, some pokémon like banette were just robbed of an evo), but Alola forms replacing megas is even worse.
Just replacing making old form types with whatever new form type you’re making regardless of logical balance and patterning is a horrendous way to do things in my eyes. It’s cheap and lazy. As much as I love regional variants as a concept, if they just replace what should be new megas I’m gonna be very angry at gamefreak. And judging by their general track record I’m worried, since they’ve apparently already abandoned evos, a decsion no one ever has supported or understood…

I dream of a world where we get evos, megas and alola exist in harmony, and all keep being made in a way that’s logical and balanced. And I’m always gonna heavily despise game freak for not having that.

          Reply
          • I’m just pointing out the similar statements that’s all.
And I disagree. I don’t think alola forms = megas at all. Heck, we might get alola form megas (megas for alola forms, since they did mention abra)
With Alola Forms, it’s hard to use logic to decide on the details. You can make any POkemon Alolan form so long as there is a reason why (ex. vulpix migrating to the snowy mountains) in real life, that’s how it works. It’s random and there’s no pattern.

          • Spot on! And yeah, I want Alolan megas! Hell, if some pokémon get megas, alolan forms, and alolan megas, it’s gonna be a hell of a mess. But it’ll be a conceptually sound mess, and the kind of mess I think the pokémon world should aim to be in the future 🙂 .

          • Exactly. Making an Alola Form for Dragonite instead a Mega is just like making it inferior to things we call Mega Tyranitar, Mega Garchomp, Mega Metagross and Mega Salamence. Those things exist, and even if they aren’t that good (idk, I don’t play competitively), they still get that 100 BST boost. Alola Forms certainly don’t increase the BST or even if they do, they won’t boost it by 100 points. I want balance for the pseudo legendaries and the previous gen starters at least. Kanto’s getting too much love lately anyway. Unova doesn’t get anything.

        • Zangoose’s food source was near a power plant and there were some normal types there that he needed to punch to get to the food!

          Reply
        • Ok, up until now I’ve been avoiding thinking up alolan forms but just this once to show how to do it correctly.

Alolan Zangoose – Steel/Normal. Its claws and skeleton became steel so it could finally kill its mortal enemy Seviper. Originally it was just a freak mutation, but eventually all the Normal Zangoose were wiped out, leaving only the Steel-Normal Zangoose (because the Steel gave it an advantage rather than just immunity).

    • I want to see a Poison/Fire Alolan Koffing and Weezing. They should be volcanic. But then again there are a lot of volcanic Pokemon.
I also want to see a Grass/Psychic Alolan Jynx stylized after a hula dancer.
And lastly, I want to see a Grass/Fairy Oddish Line. Oddish will have smaller leaves and have a lighter blue body. Gloom will have a lighter blue body and be drooling yellow/gold liquid (Nectar) and will have a closed flower similar to that of Ivysaur’s, but more frilly like a hibiscus and the orange long leaves will be green. Vileplume will have a fully bloomed Hibiscus (With the pistil and stuff) that can come in Red, Yellow or Orange depending on the time of day you caught it. Red in the Morning, Orange during the day and Yellow at Night. The color doesn’t change after you catch it. It will have a lighter blue body.

      Reply
      • The colour not changing after being caught if it’s based on the time it was caught and not where it was caught doesn’t make sense whatsoever. If different colours lived on different islands it would make sense, but time doesn’t stop for a pokemon once you’ve caught it. If the colour was decided by the time of day when you evolved it rather than caught it, that would also make some sense but be a bit dubious.

        Reply
        • Well. It dies make sense because the Hawaiian Hibiscus tree changes flower color throughout the day. It’s red in the morning, orange during the day and yellow in the night.

    • Bug/Dark Scyther. When imported to Alola by Kanto tourists, Scyther was forced to adapt to an ecosystem that was clearly against it. Instead of taking chances of being attacked by the strong Pokémon of the day, the Alolan Scyther bides it’s time until nightfall when small Pokémon wander off and get lost in the dark. The Alolan Scyther, using its much thinner but swifter scythes, slices its prey and feasts on their insides.

    • A furry Zubat line. It was the flagbearer for an old idea I had of making pokémon subspecies, that has unbelievably come true 😀 . It’s evos could stay troglobitically eyeless as well, which would be amazing! Don’t care much about their type, they could be dark, normal, or even stay poison.
Also a strong magikarp, like they used to be, based on koi carps, though I’d rather this was primal Magikarp and it got a stat boost to -1 of gyarados’, just like eternal flower floette.

  6. Things that give away leaks as fake:

    1. Text leaks that come before or after a major announcement
    2. A Text Leaker being cocky, saying statements such as: “You’ll see when the information is revealed on !” Ex. – Fired “European Employee” Leak
    3. Leaks being too dreamy or too complex. Ex. – Litten has alternate final form that is on four legs instead two and can evolve differently on a different Island.

    Reply
    • Well, those things don’t give it away but they do certainly make them suspicious :T
I do think that a lot of the Pokemon in the leak seem suspicious as well be I have no idea.

      Reply
      • Yeah. I read over the leak. A lot of these Pokemon seem very unoriginal and there’s too many that apparently take alternate form paths, such as Pipipek into Normal/Flying then Grass/Flying and that Dolphin Pokemon (though the Chinese Leaker mentioned the Dolphin but didn’t mention if it had two stages or an alternate way of evolving). If this is a real list, I’m going to be held back with disgust!

        Reply
    • 4. Wimpod and Salandit are middle stages
      5. The starters only have two spots after them in the dex (I know it takes one spot but they said it was for alternate forms as well)
      6. No fossil Pokemon, while possible, seems unlikely.

And while not really evidence, Panquake?!?! Really?!?

      Reply
      • Panquake; The BREAK-fast Pokemon. When put in a stack with other Panquake, it can cause tectonic plates to shift, the only way to stop this is by drowning it in Maple Syrup. This Pokemon makes an excellent meal, especially when cooked with buttermilk. This is why it’s almost extinct… 😛

They’re not a free pass just to make things new or exciting, but how different environments change a pokemon

      Reply
      • Right, which can happen to any Pokemon at any time. Evolution is like that. It’s random, unpredictable. There’s no pattern.
So anything can happen at this point.

        • Not in this case, these just sound like the fevered drooling wishes of over zealous fanatics who just want estranged type combos for Pokemon that little to do with them, and provides no information to back up their wants

          Reply
          • I’ll admit the process is extremely capable, but unless Onix of the Alola region frequently burrow at massive depths in superheated tunnels to compress and purify their bodies.

          • But it still has a chance of happening though, since anything can be done with them. Anyone can back it up with info.
Like with mine. I imagine Luxray’s line could have an Alolan form of Poison/Dark. Reasoning – When they came over to Alola, they got pushed into an volcanic area with toxic gases, adapting it to their use. However, since their prey know to avoid the toxic gas, they use sneaky, tricky ways to trap their prey and use their gas to poison them.

          • Ehhh that is a humongous stretch, they probably would’ve moved out of the toxic habitat, being capable predators they probably wouldn’t find it difficult to find a suitable land with minimal apex predators

          • Maybe, maybe not. Maybe Bewear was too much. Maybe humans pushed them there. That does happen with a lot of real life species, including one from my home state, the Florida panther.
            Point is, anything could happen

          • They didn’t push Bewear away, they just heavily warn people because Bewear are so unusually powerful and interaction could be detrimental to their personal safety

          • I was talking about the Luxray line. Humans pushed them away to that habitat I mentioned before. Comparison to Florida panthers. In real life, Florida panthers need a good amount of territory yet due to human population, their numbers got so low that we had to move some mountain lions in to hopefully get their population back up.
Same thing could happen here, except instead of the Luxray line dying out, they adapted to the environment given to them 🙂

          • Yeah, it could be seen as stupid, but that’s an opinion :3
And I dunno, did Vulpix’s fire phase out? You could say that with any Alolan form 🙂

          • Like I said I understand how Vulpix could be ice due to generations of dying out and growing immune to the weather, my only disproval is the Fairy Typing and Sandshrew’s Steel typing

          • They both do make some sense, and to Gamefreak that’s clearly enough.

The fairy typing is to do with Ninetales’s mystical properties, which have been a thing since gen I. It makes conceptual sense. If they made the original line today, Ninetales may well have been fairy, psychic or even maybe ghost type. People kept adding those types to putative megas… They’re just modifying the Alolan ninetales to be what they would now do to the original one if they didn’t avoid frivolous retcons.

As for sandshrew and sandslash the steel typing is given partly to introduce that new type combination (though a new pokemon for that would have been better), but they justify it by underlying how hard sandshrew and sandslash’s scales have become in their transition to an ice form. You could simply rationalise it as a modification of their original mineral nature as ground types into something different due to the effect of environmental pressure. Maybe they found a new way of concentrating and latticing metal ores or something.

          • The Sandslash one really doesn’t change me, I don’t accept Gamefreak experimenting with possible better type combos to better it
I believe it as a species itself and how it’s biology comes into effect
I could agree it could survive in the ice after years of adapting, but still I don’t agree on adding extra types without solid proof “Icy shell as hard as steel” what they say word for word is like a binding contract not just some typo

          • Maybe the ice contains metal as you’ve suggested. They don’t say anything that contradicts that idea. I don’t see “pure ice in that description… So semantically all is well.

It might not make immense sense, but their steel-type can be rationalised from their description within evolutionary theory concepts applied to the pokémon world. You not accepting that is really a matter of personal taste/arbitrary line-in the sand standards of “logic”, and I feel no amount of stating facts can sway you, so I’m just gonna leave it at that and vainly hope you loosen up a bit so you can enjoy these forms for what they are.

          • Sunkern line . Throw into a volcano as a peace offering to the gods .it becomes fire/ghost and sneaks vengence on the lands of the pokemon world for treating it to so badly. the end

      • Once again. This is a place where you can fantasize about the future of pokemon. I’m not giving reasons why they change, just a wishlist

Logics out the window. So stop acting like ur better then people, understanding everything, correcting people. #byefelicia

    • Arcaine: due to its hunting nature, when the first Alolans roam the islands they used Growlithes and Arcanines to help them hunt to fish, they became excellent swimmers, as time went on Arcanines started adapting gills due to them always hunting for fish. gaining a a fin like tails and such. Water Type
Venomoth: Due to its nature of producing Poison out of its wings, Venomoths were very protective over the flowers they protected. Comfey a pokemon native to Alola would be the ones to take the flowers once fully bloom, venomoths being around these sweet flowers the armoua of their wings went from a poisonous gas to a amazing sweet smell attracting tourists all over, Fairy/Bug
Rapidash: due to the fire it leads behind Rapidash were were shun to the rocky mountains of the region, being in place where they could rarely run their fires basically blew out, growing a rocky, and moss all over them. Grass/rock
