The Chinese Rumor & Leaked Starter Evolutions Confirmed True + MORE

With the latest Pokémon Sun & Moon information, we can now say that the rumors seem to be true. Not only the Poké Riding, but at least with the leaked Starter Evolutions we can clearly see one of the Trial Captains in the art, and the final evolution of Litten is probably holding two of its middle evolutions.

4chan Rumor

For now these are going to be de-confirmed since a number of Pokémon listed appear not to be getting an Alolan form

  • The anime’s Ash-Greninja will appear in the game
  • Alolan Rattata & Raticate are Dark-type
  • Alolan Butterfree is Bug/Psychic
  • Alolan Abra, Kadabra & Alakazam are Fighting-type
  • Alolan Nidoking & Nidoqueen are Poison/Fighting-type
  • Alolan Growlithe & Arcanine are Water-type
  • Alolan Doduo & Dodrio are Fighting/Flying-type
  • The previous versions of Pokémon which have taken on new forms will only be accessible by bringing in from older games
  • Furfrou gets new styles
  • New cat Pokémon varies in type and appearance based on breeding
  • There is a new snowman Pokémon line with two stages and it is Ice/Ghost
  • Not to get hopes up, but there may be two final evolutions for each starter

Chinese Rumor

  • There will be no traditional Gyms and no Pokémon League in Alola. Your goal is to actually create one. After you do, an Elite 4 will appear which are the leaders of each island
  • The final starter evolutions will be an Archer, a Wrestler and a Siren
  • The diamond stones will be collectible throughout the region and act similarly to Mega Stones but not exactly
  • New Pokémon based on a dolphin, sea cucumber, snowman, mushroom and a rugby monkey are there
  • Rockruff’s evolution is a Werewolf
  • Mashadow, another copyrighted Pokémon name, has a very unique type combo

  1. I believe it’s holding a Machoke and spinning (as in the picture above that seems to be a Machamp on his shoulder).

        • nobody on this site cares if they were to have gender variations, what they care about is the comments that femininity is always a female trait and cant be anything else, thats it, there are no SJW’s here

          Reply
          • ever hear of masculine women and feminine men? We all have feminine and masculine traits in us, no matter what sex we are. I usually just think of masculine and feminine as the french do, because I mean, yeah they still somewhat relate to sex but are not locked to it.

          • My point is it’s a misnomer. If ‘femininity’ isn’t strictly a ‘female’ thing, it has no business having ‘female’ as its root.

Personally I think everyone is barking up the wrong tree with this gender stuff. Sometimes I think the best solution would be to have no genders, just sexes and personalities.

Also that french thing is a horrible analogy, go back and relearn french. Le français c’est compliqué.

          • Ok first, yes I agree with you on the no genders thing would be the best solution.

Second, did you really have to be rude about the french thing? :/
(french was never a big interest of mine, which is why I took japanese instead, and tbh japanese is way easier)

          • Ironically a lot of people say that, on both sides of the ‘gender revolution’ fence. (Sadly though it doesn’t solve the case of people with extra chromosomes or when people insist on being referred to by different pronouns.)

Frankly if gender isn’t tied to sex then it has no meaning, it’s just an aspect of personality. Hence why tomboys are a thing. (Or were at least, they tend to get glossed over these days. It’s completely possible to be a tomboy, be heterosexual and not have gender issues.)

Sorry, but it really wasn’t a very good analogy. The gendering of french is actually very strict, you can’t just swap between them. Everything has a gender, and it’s either masculine, feminine or plural. (In comparison to say German, where neuter is also possible). And there are some very obscure edge cases. It has been at least 5 years since I was actively learning French, but I remember that much.

            Hai, nihongo wa sugoi.

      • “Not to get hopes up, but there may be two final evolutions for each starter” – last point in the article above the evo pictures.

    • Fighting bug Ledian I can agree with.
      Fire grass victreebel is upsetting.
I’d be fine with a fire-grass pokemon, but altforming loads of Kanto pokemon for the sake of it is silly.

I’ll thank you for suggesting a non-Kanto pokemon for alt forming though (Ledian).

      Reply
      • If not victreebel then maybe Cherrim 🙂 it have an alternate form in the sun already so that would be cool. Also I want something done to help Ledian as much as possible. It’s one of my favorite bugs but it’s just so terrible

        • I could live with that, but they’d have to stray away from its cherry blossom design.

Personally I was thinking of a new tiki pokemon made of wood, with vines for arms/legs and it breaths fire. Two-three hawaii tropes in one pokemon 😀

For some reason I’m also now imagining Tangrowth using flamethrower. Scary.

          • That sounds awesome as well! I just really want to see a bunch of unique typings this generation. We’ve had a few revealed so far but hopefully a lot more

  7. I just thought of something regarding z-moves. I wonder if they will be special or physical? I have a feeling based on the trailer that each type (hopefully this includes normal type… looking at you hidden power) will only get 1 z-move. so, what if a pokemon is better in Attack, like chesnaught, and only has bloom doom as an option? you may as well not even bother. this also applies to other pokemon, off the top of my head: Gyarados, Kingler, Flareon…

  8. That keychain’s colors plus Oricorio’s colors/ typing make me think the Tapu’s will follow suit. Fire/ Fairy, Ghost/ Fairy, Psychic/ Fairy confirmed? Or at least the first typing of each? Plus, if they all have a “terrain” ability, we could be seeing new terrains!

    • i think is based on the trial captians typing. after all each kakana (i dont know how to spell i forgot and i am to lazy to google right now) will have one because i remember tapu something being the old guy who gave you the pokemon and is the kakana of melele island

  10. something I absolutely hate is all these poketubers calling the previous generation pokemon “Delta pokemon” its honestly driving me up the wall.

    • Wha? The hell is this idea of naming them that coming from? It sounds cancerous (if you’ll pardon the term, but i feel this is the exact context where the word’s internet meaning is appropriate).

      Reply
      • It’s from a ROM hack called Pokemon Insurgence. It’s a type of Pokemon that act similar to our Alola forms. :3
Also, people keep saying Delta is also in the TCG, although I have no idea if they are right or not

        Reply
          • Ah ok, thanks :3 I don’t pay too much attention to the TCG, but I kept seeing it in earlier comments today, so yeah :3

        • Well yeah delta species were a thing for a bunch of ex expansions back in the gen III TCG, I fondly remember and still have a bunch of those. It was a fun concept back then and it made for cool cards, it’s kinda like regional variation (what we’re getting now) minus the biological underpinnings. Still confused about why they’re calling the old forms of pokemon that thought???

          Reply
        • the thing that’s bugging me though is that everyone is treating these like alternate forms. Technically, they are normal pokemon.

          Reply
          • yeah I see a lot of people thinking that they will just magically change from one to another at some point, I don’t think they really understand the concept

          • Depends how one defines alternate form. Technically east and west sea Gastrodon are alternate forms but they can’t change between each other.

      • its from an old ruby/sapphire pokemon tcg expansion, Holon phantoms and ex delta species (as well as others around that block) where pokemon, reffered to as Delta species, had different typing than normal

        Reply
    • OH you meant that’s what they’re calling the Alola forms! Soz I got confused, am pretty tired. Thought you meant that was what they were calling the orginal forms. Makes sense considering the delta species from the TCG (and pokémon insurgence apparently), but it’s an infuriating and lazy misnomer based on not doing the right research, not using your brain properly, or liking uncalled for buzzwords.

          • I don’t think they are oblivious to the world, just think that they are more mature than that to give trump the satisfaction. And it is indeed based on something entirely different, the similarity is just a coincidence.

That being said… “God” is not a big deal because almost every culture has one, its not like they said, “this mf right here represents the Christian god, so everyone else can suck it” its just a god pokemon…

But said this to say, well to each it’s own and it really doesn’t matter to me what anyone think anyways. So yeah it’s obviously at least LOOSELY inspired by trump 🙂

      • I agree. It was in no way supposed to resemble Trump. I like the detective idea especially since it was introduced to Alola to rid the region of another rodent

To be honest though, I don’t live in America, so I can make as many Trump jokes as I like, whether he wins or not doesn’t affect me.
I honestly feel sorry for America, at least in the UK we have alternatives to the main two parties (not that an alternative has ever won, but still, it’s nice to have alternatives).

not that thats an issue here, I’m just having a fun fact of the day moment

          • In that case, I feel sorry for them not getting mentioned in the news.

At least over here UKIP got a big run and the Greens are sometimes mentioned. Heck, the third main party even got to be in a coalition for a while.

(Let’s be honest though, nobody votes for the greens because they don’t have any policies for anything other than eco-friendliness and tree hugging. It’s like trying to make the salad the main part of the meal and skimping on the pasta.)

          • thats because the major american news outlets are nothing but crazy biased people fear mongering, they are not a legitimate form of journalism. *see fox news, and you will understand*

          • yeah, I can hardly remember the last time ive seen something positive and uplifting on the news. kinda a major downer, honestly.

          • sometimes in canada they play cat videos to lighten the mood on our news (which is funny because there is rarely anything bad on the news unless you’re in a major city, and even then its mild compared to the states)

          • I haven’t seen any of what the American news places are saying. For some reason the UK news feels that we should care who gets Elected in America so they keep telling us about it.

          • yeah unfortunately in canada we have to care because they are our neighbors and trump being elected would sever a lot of ties between our countries

          • Libertarian and Green have the highest support rate this election than they have ever had. Our election was rigged though so we can’t do much regardless.

          • Sometimes I wonder why the American states stick together and don’t become several smaller countries. Every state has their own set of laws, cultural differences, accents etc anyway.

You could ask the same of the UK, but apart from Scotland, all the other parts are mostly happy with the current arrangement.

          • I feel like some of the southern states would be too dangerous and would probably see a huge rise in deaths and such if they became their own little countries, the government is keeping some of them from going off the deep end

          • We could do that but I would mess up our economy even worse than it already is. Besides, Texas is the only state big enough to secede

          • Not every state individually, just into smaller groups. You already have central, easter etc timezones and areas denoted ‘deep south’ and ‘pacific northwest’, so it’s not too much of a stretch to draw the lines.

          • Lol true. More trouble than it’s worth. I mean the green party and part of the left wants to move everyone into districts in the larger states and “let nature take over what it once owned.” so yeah lol

          • It wouldn’t be a matter of moving (unless people really didn’t like who was going to be in charge of their part, or were worried about moving back to their original state after a move), it would just be a matter of establish some new, smaller governments and standardising laws between states. Keep trading and movement relatively free and open and you’d hardly notice the difference aside from things being more standardised in the states that are closer to each other..

          • Bernie Sanders was the most fit for the job and they all kinda snubbed him and attacked him, now its just Hillary or trump, but really as a person hilliary isn’t too bad

          • Well at least an alternative exists, even if (as usual) presidential candidates attacked each other all the time.

Good luck on the elections though. May the “best” person win.

          • oh I’m not an american, And it wasn’t just the presidential candidates that attacked or snubbed him, like all the major news outlets never gave any representation to bernie and if they did it was small and negative, so unfortunately a lot of the checked out people (the ones who are not actually paying much attention) didn’t even know that he was an option until it was too late, but I digress, the past is in the past, not my country. blahhh 😛

          • Franky I think Hillary is really creepy. No matter how stupid trump gets, I still struggle to not get creeped out by Hillary.
I think Bernie would have been better. He might look like he’s just some random old guy, but at least he looks more normal than Hillary or Trump.

Plus Hillary’s supporters keep playing the “She’s a woman” card. Whether the president is a man or a woman is irrelivent, what matters is whether or not they’re going to do a good job.

(And before anyone says anything, I’ve got nothing against the leader of a country being female, I’m saying it’s unimportant. Hitler could have been female, it wouldn’t have stopped him invading Poland.)

        • When I live in a country where there are multiple parties and any of them can win at anytime, some of the news reporters bash that system and wish we could have only 2 major parties.

          SIIIGH. “Grass is greener” mentality.

Both 2 party and 5+ party systems have advantages and disadvantages. 1 party is all disadvantages, tho. 🙂

          Reply
          • Having only two does make it easier in most cases. It’s just when you get cases like America has now, where neither option is particularly brilliant. At least in the UK we had a situation where when nobody was confident enough in the main two parties (at the time) there was a third party to help break the tie and form a coalition (which actually didn’t turn out as bad as everyone was saying it would).

          • We’ve got about 10 in total, but only 3-5 are actually any real form of competition.
One party only the Scottish will vote for, which means they’ll never have a majority.
One or two parties have a bad rep (which may or may not be deserved) so they’ll never get a majority.
The monster raving loony party is a joke party.
There’s a couple of small parties nobody has ever heard of because they’re too specific (I think there’s a party for making internet piracy legal and one for making drugs legal, as well as a few that only affect northern Ireland).
And then there’s the Greens. They’ve got the environment sorted, but nothing else.
Oh, and plaid cmryu (or however it’s supposed to be spelt), who only get votes from *some* of the Welsh.

      • Also the Obama thing was a joke because he was born in Hawaii.
I find it amusing how everyone missed my main joke and started raving about Trump.

  11. I’ve got to say, IMO Alola forms are by far the best thing that has happened to pokemon in a while (or maybe ever?), and I’ve really loved practically everything that’s come out of the series in it’s history, so that’s saying something.

Whereas megas I initially hated and slowly accepted and grew to love, this idea I immediately adored, probably because I’d always wanted it in the games. Like many when I first saw the video, I thought we were in for mega exeggutor, but lo and behold, I saw the title and lost my mind. And then I saw the video. And hell the rest of the reveals were amazing too.

I know I’m certainly not the only one who had the idea, but I can hardly believe my old idea of having pokemon species variants like shaggy zubats or magikarps that retained their famed historical strengths is now coming true in pretty much that form, minus the specific pokemon. What with gamefreak actually making archelon and archaeopteryx based pokemon that I hopelessly wished for back in gen V, and other stuff coming true I forget, sometimes I wonder if GF and nintendo aren’t reading our minds to get ideas….

As a biology nerd the idea of pokemon having subspecies and phenotypic plasticity is mind-bogglingly amazing. Intraspecies variation is an idea that makes the pokemon world more biodiverse, and thus realistic and more vibrant. Compared to mega evolution, this is a new addition that really feels organic to the pokemon world rather than tacked on, and that’s because it’s an idea that’s been present from the series’ inception. And the thing is, with how uninterested in fully coherent wordbuilding GF are (try having a conversation about how coherent the pokemon world actually is with the canon information we have, seriously), and how happily and well they retcon stuff that can be retconned (mostly additively) while still keeping the series at a decent level of coherence, this is the sort of idea that feels like it has indeed always been a lingering possibility in the pokemon world but hasn’t been explored until now due to technical and developmental constraints. We had the idea of alternate arbok designs. We had weird anime variants. We had delta species. It’s always been there on the sidelines, and now it’s entering the mainstream. Tbf the idea is basically a middleroad between these concepts, like a biologically thought out concept for delta species.

And the thing is, it puts those sidelines in a new light. It means the snowlaxes, crystal onixes, orange island variants, and weird electric type dratinis and steel/fire blastoises of Holon of our youths suddenly can be way more coherently included in the broad canon. And who knows, maybe someday we’ll get snowlaxes and crystal onixes in the games? That’d certainly be cool! (I’m especially hoping for a pink buterfree, or, even better, an orange islands butterfree! Also purple keckleon can now more easily be made mainstream canon!)

It also reminds me of something mentioned in the pokemon adventures manga GSC arc (which is currently coming out in France, so I’m finally getting to discover it), in which Professor Oak enlists Crystal’s help to fill the pokedex with pokemon from the Johto region , including Kanto pokemon, as they have subtle differences from one region to the other. The given example is the length of ratata teeth iirc, but the main point is that again this is circumstantial evidence of how easily this feature fits in the pokemon world since it’s often been alluded to. Granted this would be a more precise and local population phenotype based approach, but who knows, maybe one day…

I’m hoping that, years in the future, when the pokémon series now only exists as a series of expansions to the Pokémon World game (with online multi servers existing of course), individual pokemon variation is taken to it’s final logical step, and each pokémon’s model legitimately becomes unique. Each pokémon model would have a possible set of sizes, and not just overall, but for specific body parts. Body part shapes could also change and pokemon markings would vary. A pokemon would also have a chance of having one (or more, if exceedingly lucky) unique visual feature such as a special shaped marking, a different coloured element, a chip in a protuberance, etc. I know this sounds like an impossible amount of work ot create, but that’s why it’s a fantasy for the distant future. And regional variation could easily play a part in this, with trait size geographical gradients or areas having pokemon that are uniquely coloured in certain areas or uniquely marked.

Wow, that’s a lot of talking, but I guess it shows how excited I am about the whole concept! Hopefully it’ll make others think more broadly about the idea too!

    • TL;DR…

      Seriously, I partly agree.

Exeggutor makes more sense than the others though.
And 90% of the people coming up with fan made ideas about alola form pokemon aren’t actually trying to justify the ideas, they’re just picking their favourite pokemon and slapping cool typings on them.

For true biodiversity, these things have to be thought through and justified. Ninetails sort of makes sense because of arctic foxes, and presumably arctic shrews also exist.

      Reply
      • Yeah, people definitely are going crazy without much biological thought, but this is pokemon, game freak can make up any justification they like for a certain typing and it’ll probably work relatively organically because they’re good at that, so people’s hopes do have some potential support to them in most cases as long as they make a modicum of sense concept-wise.
And yeah arctic shrews are a thing, have you not seen Zootopia :p ? (they don’t tend to look like igloos though hahaha).

        Reply
        • Yeah, I’ll be fair to game freak, even on the rare occaision I dislike their designs, at least they put thought into the biology in most cases. Except maybe Klefki and Trubbish, those are weird.

Nope. The first I heard of Zootopia on TV was the advert of it being released on DVD. Before that I somehow stumbled upon a video of a guy poking all the plot holes in it.

Sadly I had to agree with him, I find it odd that any police officer would expect to be put straight on homicide and not on traffic. Even in L.A. Noire you start off in traffic.

That and the thing about a police officer not having a torch (just in case: “flashlight”) and having to use a phone.

          Reply
          • I think “parking meter attendant” is their stand-in for traffic.

They didn’t do traffic cop to save money, I guess, since it would be more expensive to choreograph and animate.

          • I thought parking meter attendants would be employeed by the people who own the car park. Seems kind of a waste using police for that, even if only rookies were used.

More likely they didn’t do it because it wouldn’t seem boring enough. They like to make miserable people’s situations overly dramatic. Heck, even Nintendo started out selling playing cards. And I bet a lot of their design team started out as an intern making coffee for the guys that shine Miyamoto’s shoes.

          • Even Klefki and Trubbish have pokemonish “biology” to them, at least to the same degree voltorb or grimer do.
I’d warmly recommend watching zootopia if you can get your hands on it (unless animation isn’t your thing or something), it’s genuinely an animated masterpiece and deals with a profound issue in a subtle and intelligent way (plus if those are the worse plot holes they came up with you shouldn’t have that much trouble suspending your disbelief haha)

          • They do, but I have a thing about mixing man-made materials and biology. Stuff like Mimikyu and Burmy where you’ve effectively got a hermit-crab creature using man made waste for what they’d normally use nature for makes sense, but Klefki taking on the appearance of a purely man made object and Trubbish being made of ‘man made’ rubbish bags seems weird. Steel things like Magnemite are excusable because metal does occur naturally (and even magnetises naturally).

The thing I watched poking holes in its plot was enough for me to see what the plot was supposed to be. Aside from the flaws in its plot (which were more than just those, those were just the most memorable), I don’t like watching films that are too politically driven. If I’m going to watch a film, I want to be thinking about the film in its context without any real world distractions (other than maybe physics). If I’m going to watch something political, I want it to be dealt with in a serious way with clear facts and figures. Hence the two things conflict.

          • Hmm I kinda see what you mean about mixing man-made materials with pokemon. But really klefki is just a steel fairy that happens to like collecting keys. For all intents and purposes that makes it a living keyring, and that’s the idea design-wise, but within the pokemon world the resemblance is supposedly coincidental. There’s a way to make it coherent. As for Trubbish it’s indeed a step further than grimer to have it carry a bin bag, but is it that weird in the world of pokemon that a sentient pile of sludge could produce it’s own starch or hydrocarbon-based body covering so as to mimic a bin bag?

As for Zootopia, I’m of the opinion that if you dig enough you’re bound to find holes in every plot. And sure, some films may be worse than others in that regard, but you’re bound to find someone for every film who’s decided they have a bone to pick and will dissect everything so as to show you why it doesn’t make sense to them . Often times the plot holes they point out could be quite easily plugged with a bit of thought, but because they present it as a hole you wouldn’t think to do so. And besides, unless it’s an absolute sense-breaking hole that prevents you from suspending your disbelief, even a film with plot holes can be a masterpiece. It’s also important to note that this isn’t exactly a “political” film. It deals with a deep issue of human nature and human society, like most films do. It just so happens that tolerance, the issue it deals with, is an issue that tends to be politically charged, especially in today’s times. I’m sorry but if someone thinks this film is some sort of politically driven vehicle of a particular agenda, they’re a bit of a paranoid wacko. Yeah, it’s trying to teach you a lesson about tolerance. But it’s a lesson you’d be hard pressed to fault. Most films teach you a lesson about whatever human topic they’re exploring. But this film also goes above and beyond that because it doesn’t just act as a well-crafted illustration of the issue at hand, it actively explores implications tolerance poses where less thorough films wouldn’t. Basically to dismiss this as a political film is pretty inane.
And aside from all that the production values and creativity behind the film, as well as the humour and references, make it truly worth the watch.

But hey I’m not here to tell you what to watch if it’s not up your street, I just believe you’d be missing something good by avoiding it for those reasons.

          • They’re still odd. Especially since the traits have no evolutionary advantage.

Well whatever, still not all that interested in it. I know the plot, it’s not that interesting and it majorly falls down as an allegory to real life. (Unless the ‘night howlers’ are supposed to be an allegory to drugs, which would be weird.) In real life there isn’t a substance that can just make people of a particular ethnicity attack people of another ethnicity. When someone attacks someone else, whether in self defence or malicious and whether called for or it, it is always a choice of free will, whichever race/ethnicity/whatever is involved. Hence the allegory fails to be relevant.

Either way, like I said before. I want in-world plot, not analysis of human nature. And I’ve read the plot, and it sounds pretty average.

Plus like a lot of American animated films there will be a truckload of cultural references I won’t be able to relate to (like the sloths. We don’t have a DMV in Britain, or any equivalent, so that one doesn’t translate). Some, like yellow busses, lockers and the ‘101’ thing are compulsory to know because of their prevalence in American media, but it still doesn’t make them easy to relate to.

      • its very Japanese compared to the rest, that would be my guess. the others seem Spanish, American, and Hawaiian (still technically American I know I know.)

        Reply
        • The difference is that Hawaiian dancing existed before it joined America, cheerleading was invented after America was America, so it’s correct to say Hawaiian.

Although according to wikipedia, cheerleading seemingly evolved from America copying the chants of British football fans (the dancing came later). Also ironically Cheerleading was originally predominantly male. The more you know.

    • Well, Kanto is based on an area of Japan (the Kanto region, includes Tokyo among other cities/prefectures). Considering it looks very Asian (mostly Japan as its traditional dance includes fans) influenced, they probably put that little nod to it 🙂

    • Well the sensu dancing that Oricorio form is performing/is based on is from Japan (check the hairdo and the fans, it’s kinda obvious), so the first four regions in the pokémon world. That dancing style might specifically be from the Kanto region in real life but I’m just speculating at this point, it’s beyond my knowledge.

        • As people have said, it’s the first gen so it’s the easiest shout-out to make, and it’s quite obviously japan-based ( despite johto indeed seeming to be a more appropriate choice).

          Reply
    • Because the Sensu is a type of Japanese fan and Kanto (and Johto*) is supposed to be very Japanese. The sensu form of Oricorio is supposed to do Japanese style spiritual fan dancing as opposed to the flamenco/cheerleading/hawaiian dancing of the other styles.
      Also the Lavender town-ghost connection.

      *Mini Rant:
Johto is always been forgotten about. People rave on about Kanto and Gen 1 to the point where Johto is completely forgotten. It was the first sequel, without Gen 2, there would never have been any more sequels and pokemon would have been a one hit wonder.

      • I couldn’t imagine what it would be like it Pokemon was a one-hit wonder. Johto is my favorite region and HGSS are my favorite games in the series. It does suck how much people tend to forget about Johto

      • I couldn’t stand johto personally. (and by couldn’t stand I really mean “still love but less so than every other gen”)

          • What is it about Kanto that makes it better than Johto?

Johto has a lighthouse, and pagodas, and ruins, and a lake, and a forest, and a quaint little park, and a dark cave with a shrine, and a mountain with bears and ghosts.

          • Sorry, not Johto XD I meant Gen 2 games…. I love Johto’s design as a region, it is beautiful with many shrines and towns resembling rural Japan. It’s absolutely beautiful!

Without Kanto however, the gen 2 games wouldn’t be as full. Plus obviously the pokedex wouldn’t be full. But no, Johto is one of my favorite regions, if not my favorite.

          • If they hadn’t intended to send the player back to Kanto they would have made Johto bigger and crammed more Kanto pokemon in. Also Johto had a special pokedex to account for the sheer number of gen 2 pokemon that were gen 1 evos.

Tbh I think the reason they left Kanto in is because they developed it on top of the original game’s code instead of throwing the old code out, redoing the engine and starting from scratch like they did with later games.Which makes sense if the original was made in assembly or pure C. I suspect gen 3’s engine was done in C, C++ or a mix of both to make porting to new consoles easier. That would also explain why they hadn’t attempted something like pokemon colusseum earlier.

        • I like Johto. I always liked it more than Kanto. Especially the Pagodas and the slightly more rural feel.

Not to mention the ruins, Ilex forest and the lighthouse etc

Better than a powerplant, a cycling road and tower for the deceased. (I just realised I also just described gen 3, which is my favourite gen… eh, Hoenn did it better).

          • I’ve never noticed. Tbh aside from the very first time I played pokemon, I’ve never struggled to beat the gym leaders and champion.

I’ll be fair that Whitney’s Miltank was a pain to beat, but only because of rollout and the lack of a good fighting type being available prior to encountering her.

    • Sudowoodo should get different designs based on location. I’d love to see a palm tree variation or an evergreen variation. Same could be said for trevanant and possible Sawsbuck

      Reply
    • I could live with a palm tree Sudowoodo, but I don’t think you’d have to change its typing just to give it a new form.

Everyone seems to be forgetting Exeggutor wasn’t given a new typing, so Ninetails and Sandslash might be exceptions to the rule rather than vice versa.

      Reply
        • Hrm, I forgot that. Ok disregard the bit about Exeggutor.
I still think making every new form have a new typing is OTT though.
Why not mix things up and just give different forms special moves or abilities instead of screwing with the typing every time.

          Reply
          • Because hidden abilities already exist so giving them other abilities just for alola without changing their types makes little sense imo

          • Uh, they were given new abilities. Like Snow Cloak for… was it Sandshrew?

I’m guessing they’ll also give new HA, probably Snow Warning for Ninetales.

          • Well this is Troll Freak who knows if they will introduce “Hidden Ability 2”. Though personally I would just abolish Hidden Ability and make those accessible as a second or third ability (or fourth in the case of HA2).

And they have added an ability before. I think it was Chansey who had one ability in Gen 3, but have 2 in Gen 4, so transferred Chansey had a chance to have one of two abilities?

          • Ftr: I never said anything about not changing their appearance, just not changing their type.

And to elaborate on crap hidden abilities:
Sunflora’s hidden ability is Early Bird. Something like Overgrow would be much more useful.Or Leaf Guard, or Regenerator.

Audino’s HA is Klutz, which unless you’re specifically gearing up for an anti-item tactic is pretty crappy. Giving it something like Reckless would mean it could actually do a bit of damage in addition to being primarily a healer.

Hitmonlee’s Unburden, also pretty useless unless specifically going up against Knock Off or Thief. Imagine if it were Mold Breaker or Defiant.

          • It would be a chance to rectify some of the more useless hidden abilities.
Also, Exeggutor’s new Frisk ability has nothing to do with its typing.

          • I know. And Snow cloak for Sandslash etc

But I mean they should have alolan forms that *don’t* affect the typing.
Otherwise it’s just an excuse to have a new typing, which is an abuse and doesn’t reflect biodiversity.
If alolan forms are supposed to reflect biodiversity, they should be able to do so through moves and abilities without needing to change the typing every time.
For example, Sudowoodo could still be rock type, but look like a palm tree and have an ability like solar power (not solar power, because solar power is crap, but something sun themed).
