The Chinese Rumor & Leaked Starter Evolutions Confirmed True + MORE

With the latest Pokémon Sun & Moon information, we can now say that the rumors seem to be true. Not only the Poké Riding, but at least with the leaked Starter Evolutions we can clearly see one of the Trial Captains in the art, and the final evolution of Litten is probably holding two of its middle evolutions.

4chan Rumor

For now these are going to be de-confirmed since a number of Pokémon listed appear not to be getting an Alolan form

  • The anime’s Ash-Greninja will appear in the game
  • Alolan Rattata & Raticate are Dark-type
  • Alolan Butterfree is Bug/Psychic
  • Alolan Abra, Kadabra & Alakazam are Fighting-type
  • Alolan Nidoking & Nidoqueen are Poison/Fighting-type
  • Alolan Growlithe & Arcanine are Water-type
  • Alolan Doduo & Dodrio are Fighting/Flying-type
  • The previous versions of Pokémon which have taken on new forms will only be accessible by bringing in from older games
  • Furfrou gets new styles
  • New cat Pokémon varies in type and appearance based on breeding
  • There is a new snowman Pokémon line with two stages and it is Ice/Ghost
  • Not to get hopes up, but there may be two final evolutions for each starter

Chinese Rumor

  • There will be no traditional Gyms and no Pokémon League in Alola. Your goal is to actually create one. After you do, an Elite 4 will appear which are the leaders of each island
  • The final starter evolutions will be an Archer, a Wrestler and a Siren
  • The diamond stones will be collectible throughout the region and act similarly to Mega Stones but not exactly
  • New Pokémon based on a dolphin, sea cucumber, snowman, mushroom and a rugby monkey are there
  • Rockruff’s evolution is a Werewolf
  • Mashadow, another copyrighted Pokémon name, has a very unique type combo

  1. Also, these dont count as the ice types I’ve been wanting. I want an original pokemon please! 🙂 Do we still not have a dark?

  2. Welp, Ash-greninja es a mega evolution, so that mean megas will be there, awesome! The z-moves are most likely going to balance the power shift between normal pokemon and mega ones, makes alot of sence, and plus i like the mega evo mechanic.. coming from someone who goes way back to pokemon Yellow

      • I think after you do their task you’ll have to battle them. But I think they’ll only have a couple of pokemon on their team…

          • I’m suprised to see Hala only have 3. I would think he would have 5 or 6 if kahuna’s are replacing the Elite Four…

          • Well, how it works if I read it correctly stated that kahunas are faced after you finish all the trials in one island and you need to beat them to move onto the next island.
So Hala having three is not too ridiculous for the 1st kahuna 🙂

          • My theory is that they double as the remaining 4 “gym leaders” and elite four, after you complete all islands trial challenges you must battle all four kahunas which have a stronger team and when you beat them consecutively the champion reveals itself and challenges you

    • What if: you get to choose certain trial leaders and make your own league post game, and you can battle the chosen ones.

  3. Imagine this:
The antagonist is an old wealthy dude that wants to make more money with alolas tourism and uses the motto “make alola great for tourist again”…and you all know where this is going and what his main pokemon will be 😉

  4. I must say, I feel like all the new characters are more memorable than X and Y characters…. and we haven’t even played the games yet….

  5. I have to say it seems like GameFreak is trying to please the real pokemon fans (REAL pokemon fans) and at the same time are pleasing to genwunners and the other ones..

This is gonna be an EPIC game. Now all we need is a more challenging game than gen 6 games…

    Reply
    • Why do genwunners even bother playing anymore? Shouldn’t they just be sat there playing nothing but the originals because ~every~ other generation is inferior?

I feel sorry for gen 2, never gets enough love.

Personally I think the only way to make things more challenging is to force people to have to participate in the alternate battle styles and not just make all battles single battles. I.e. make more trainers and gyms use double battles, rotation battles and inverse battles.

Also I feel like pointing out the games aren’t getting easier, the players are getting better. The only reason the originals are still difficult is because of how stupidly limiting they were due to the small range of moves and pokemon.

        • Without gen 2 there would be no Espeon and Umbreon, no Slowking, no Scizor, no Dark type, no Steel type, no Heracross. Scary thoughts.

      • I AGREE GEN 2 FTW

But yes, you make a good point about difficulty. But still… It’s very easy to point out how X and Y hold your hand throughout the WHOLE game… And also, AI is more intelligent in past games….

        Reply
        • I think the real thing that made X and Y easier was the change in the exp share mechanics, turning back the clock to what it did in gen 1, so by the time you reach a gym you don’t actually need to train for it, you can just walk right in and you’re effectively wielding 6 bazookas.

I dunno about the AI being worse than before, I think it’s more that older AI had it easy because there weren’t as many variables involved. If you limited yourself and the AI to gen 1 moves and pokemon you’d probably find things more difficult because you wouldn’t have all the fantastic strategies and abilities modern pokemon have. No skill swapping, very few really powerful moves, only one dragon move available etc.

Also I won’t go into all the details, but it’s pretty hard to write decent AI in the first place. And technically most game AI isn’t machine-learning AI, it’s just a bunch of heuristic algorithms so it’s bound to have flaws. (PS, I’m a programmer)

          Reply
          • That’s awesome that your a programmer btw! I totally see where you come from now and I agree with you 100%. Also, if I may add, all gym leaders had the same number of Pokemon (3) which is extremely easy considering you have a party of 6 by the last few gyms…

Also elite four members were downgraded in party size.

          • Yeah, the number of pokemon thing is fair. I think giving all gym leaders 6 pokemon would definately up the ante. I usually have a party of 6 before hitting the first gym. Not 6 particularly good pokemon, but even if the main one gets knocked out, it probably only takes 3 mooks to get rid of the leader’s lesser pokemon.

The elite four was definately easier because of the number of options available, but I think it’s fair to say you’d still need to heal in between them. I don’t think there’s ever been a case where I’ve not had to heal during my first run of the elite four (later runs yes, but not the first run).

  6. Ash-Greninja – meh, but fine
Rattata & Raticate – Dark type is fine, but I really hope Dark Raticate looks cooler than regular Raticate. Regular Raticate is very meh
Butterfree – Finally a way to explain why it uses confusion
Abra etc – Erm… I… I cannot begin to imagine how that’s going to wrok
NIdoking & Nidoqueen – Finally. The ground typing never made sense.
Growlithe & Arcanine – I could have accepted ice, but I’m struggling with water
Doduo & Dodrio – Erm… Wat? They don’t have any arms. Oh god, please tell me the extra heads aren’t going to become fists D: Why Gamefreak, why!?

I can live with more furfrou styles, though lets be honest, nobody uses Furfrou with battling. If it had better moves it would make sense for contests, but otherwise it’s just another normal type.

The new cat pokemon sounds interesting. Mainly because it’s a cat, but the alternate forms thing sounds cool.

Snowman pokemon should be good. Somehow I get the feeling it’s going to be the ice equivalent of Gourgeist and Trevenant.

Alternate final evolutions for starters would drive me nuts, but I think it’s a good idea anyway.

I’m not sure I’m happy about having the island trials instead of gyms. I know people think the gym system is stale and the latest gym leaders have been a bit unimpressive, but I think the answer to that is more gyms, not less. And maybe make the gyms more like dungeons rather than baby’s first puzzle.

I’m ok with the grass and water starter, but if that’s the fire starter’s final form I’m going to cry profusely.

Diamond stones sound like they might be an ok thing depending on what they do ‘exactly’.

I’m cool with all those as new pokemon ideas. Except maybe the sea cucumber, those things are weird.

Werewolf sounds interesting. Inb4 it’s called “Rockwolf”.

Mashadow is a reasonably name. What is the unique typing though? It can only be ghost-fighting, ghost-normal or ghost-rock since all the others have been done before.

    Reply
    • Ghost/fighting is a possibility I didn’t consider. Sounds cool. I agree with pretty much everything else you said though!

      Reply
      • I went out of my way to list the possibilities and eliminate the ones that had already existed 😛 I genuinely thought there would be more, but thanks to Mimikyu, Golurk and Aegislash…

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking these things though.

    • Abra’s line getting fighting type actually makes sense to me. Back before the Physical/Special split, plenty of people and I think the games themselves liked to use the Elemental Punches on their Alakazam. A fighting type Alakazam, with Iron Fist hopefully, would make perfect sense as a nostalgia thing :S

      Reply
      • Erm… I hate to break it but that would have been bad even back then.
Physical and special moves were different even back then, meaning Alakazam would have still had poor attack and good special, meaning its physical moves would have been weaker than its special moves (but presumably it couldn’t learn many elemental special moves, so people made do).
The only change made was special splitting into sp attack and sp defence in gen 2, that was it.

        Reply
        • Uhh, no, prior to Gen 4 we had Physical types (Normal, Rock, Steel, Fighting, etc) and Special types (Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Dark, etc.) This means a lot of things were very different like Alakazam used to be great with the elemental punches, while Hitmonchan was awful with them. Hyper Beam used to be a physical move, so when it became special that’s why Giga Impact was introduced. Etc etc.

          Reply
        • But Electric, Ice and Fire used to be special, before Gen 4 separated the attacks themselves into physical/Special.

          Reply
          • Huh, fair enough, I thought the category system had always existed.
Still doesn’t justify a fighting type Alakazam though, they’ll need to come up with some reasonable lore.

  7. My brain won’t let me call it “amazing Pokemon games, best ever” yet. It looks great, but I did that with XY, and it was a huge letdown, so my I’m subconsciously keeping my expectations low.

  8. What if Gumshoos is hunting the Alolan rattata? It is dark type supposedly, which is a so called evil type, so the detective makes sense. Just my thoughts on the matter.

  9. Is it me or does anyone else get the feeling there’ll be more Trail Captains?. I mean there’s evidence to suggest that both Mallow and Kiawe live on the second island.

    Reply
    • I think they’ll definitely be more than 4. I think they are only revealing four to keep the other 4 a secret. They don’t want to reveal too much,.

      Reply
    • I recon Lana is on MeleMele island, then Mallow and Kiawe on the second island (Akala island I think it’s called). Sophocles on the third with maybe two more? Then who knows who the final island.

      Reply
    • I wouldn’t have thought so.
There are 4 islands and the trial captains are all wearing a 4-pronged charm.
Don’t forget though, for every trial captain there’s a Kahuna, so they’re probably counting them together to bring the total to 8.

  10. OMFG I have a bet. I bet when the official move sets for Gumshoos comes out he will be able to learn Trump Card, if this is true then it really will be a nod to the orange bastard himself

  11. Such ugly final starter forms ugh :’c
Going to have to go with Rowlet now since they ruined poor Litten by making another ugly super bulky wrestling monstrosity. Weren’t infernape and emboar enough, can’t someone do something more creative than this, rghhh
I know this is going to sound like standard over reacting whining but this is the first time in all the gens that not a single final evo appeals to me.

    Reply
    • Blaziken was fire-fighting too.
I wouldn’t even put this one in the same category though.
I liked Blaziken and Infernape, and Emboar was mostly better than the alternatives, but this wrestling tiger is beyond awful. It’s a sad day when I think a water starter looks better than a fire starter.

      Reply
      • Blaziken was the first (and should’ve been the last, at least for a while!), so I don’t bear it any grudges.
I was a snivy fan on the emboar front, haha.

  12. Can someone please clarify this image below (refresh if can’t see). This is from the Chinese leaker. Or someone taking the Chinese leaker’s info and mixing it with lies? Or a third leaker all together? Because this article doesn’t mention S.S. Anne or the characters from previous games returning, & Time working differently in each of the versions. Latter of which I’m worried about most. I don’t want Moon to be all darkness and Sun to be all daylight.
