The Chinese Rumor & Leaked Starter Evolutions Confirmed True + MORE

With the latest Pokémon Sun & Moon information, we can now say that the rumors seem to be true. Not only the Poké Riding, but at least with the leaked Starter Evolutions we can clearly see one of the Trial Captains in the art, and the final evolution of Litten is probably holding two of its middle evolutions.

4chan Rumor

For now these are going to be de-confirmed since a number of Pokémon listed appear not to be getting an Alolan form

  • The anime’s Ash-Greninja will appear in the game
  • Alolan Rattata & Raticate are Dark-type
  • Alolan Butterfree is Bug/Psychic
  • Alolan Abra, Kadabra & Alakazam are Fighting-type
  • Alolan Nidoking & Nidoqueen are Poison/Fighting-type
  • Alolan Growlithe & Arcanine are Water-type
  • Alolan Doduo & Dodrio are Fighting/Flying-type
  • The previous versions of Pokémon which have taken on new forms will only be accessible by bringing in from older games
  • Furfrou gets new styles
  • New cat Pokémon varies in type and appearance based on breeding
  • There is a new snowman Pokémon line with two stages and it is Ice/Ghost
  • Not to get hopes up, but there may be two final evolutions for each starter

Chinese Rumor

  • There will be no traditional Gyms and no Pokémon League in Alola. Your goal is to actually create one. After you do, an Elite 4 will appear which are the leaders of each island
  • The final starter evolutions will be an Archer, a Wrestler and a Siren
  • The diamond stones will be collectible throughout the region and act similarly to Mega Stones but not exactly
  • New Pokémon based on a dolphin, sea cucumber, snowman, mushroom and a rugby monkey are there
  • Rockruff’s evolution is a Werewolf
  • Mashadow, another copyrighted Pokémon name, has a very unique type combo

      • I love how in the Japanese trailer, they show you much more. Miltank appears in the farm area on that Island along with Tauros. And I know this off subject, but this whole Starter debate thing I try not to put my nose into. I personally think Rowlet’s and Popplio’s, minus Litten’s which had so much potential. I’m picking Popplio personally and I don’t care how many manly points I lose. But if we get this weird “middle evolution branch” as indicated by the sheets, then maybe that will make some more people happy. I don’t have much stock in the second leak as I do in the Chinese leak at the moment, the latter Chinese leak of which has been 100% confirmed.

  1. I’m praying to Arceus that these Starters have gender differences. I can’t handle the Litten evo. I will complain about it for the rest of my life and you guys will have to suffer through it

          • NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN yes. oh well. Anyways which pokemon are you feeling
            1) LITteen
            2)PikiGOD
            3) zikavolt
and I Kinda like the praying mantis pokemon but the mantis it’s based on is a bug that evolved to resemble a orchard. so I don’t understand why it’s not bug

          • If these evolutions are the only choices, I’ll be going with Rowlet and having Vikavolt for sure. I also really like that Mantis and am bothered by its grass typing. Makes little sense.

          • I still think it’s a plant imitating the bug, it’s a really cool backwards concept that I feel is GF’s style.

          • Exactly, especially cause it looks more plant than bug to me. Plus, Fomantis’ info states all that matters is photosynthesis. Sure, if it was Bug/Grass, it could still work, but there’s very little bugs that can photosynthesize.

          • That’s just such a strange concept to me though. I wouldn’t mind if it was a creature they created but since they’re flipping what an actual insect does, I don’t like the idea as much. At least the design is good.

    • Oh hey Ultron, fancy seeing you somewhere that’s not Hypable! haha. I agree though. I just don’t like that Litten evolution. And the Popplio evolution is kind of feminine, which I can see a lot of people not being into. I’m fine with that, I just hate the clown aspect.

      • Oh hey! I frequent here a lot! The Litten one is my least favorite for sure. The design seems uninspired and too similar to past fire starters in terms of concept. The Popplio one isn’t bad, it’s just kind of strange to me. The Rowlet one is pretty great though. I might have to get a female one and name it Rowling or Jo 🙂

        Reply
        • I’m definitely hoping these are fake. The Litten one is an atrocity. And it’s probably fire/fighting, which is way over done. I do like the Rowlet one, so I wish it would be real. I just really wanted a good Popplio evolution because when I saw the starters, Popplio stood out to me the most. But if this one is real, I’m going with Rowlet. That’s a cute idea for a nickname.

          • They’re pretty much confirmed given the new female character in the art :/ I’m holding out for gender differences.

    • I’m sure that there is another set of evolutions that has to do with the starters’ secret. There’s a rumor that there may be Grass/Ground, Fire, and Water/Fighting final evolutions alongside the leaked ones. Perhaps this will utilize the day/night cycle in a way.

      Reply
      • Legit. That’s an interesting way to think of it. Maybe, all of these evos occur at night; while the Grass/Ground, Fire, and Water/Fighting occur during the day.

      • I think this would be cool. These games are really switching things up. Hopefully for the best, although I don’t really care for the Z moves.

  2. I believe I’ve might have figured out how Poke Ride will ultimately work. Your trainer will recieve a device, which will allow you to summon rideable Pokemon. This device essentially acts as a PC; it stores and holds rideable Pokemon. These Pokemon are then transferred to the Ride Ball (not the official name), then your able to use them on the overworld. These rideable Pokemon will also be used in trials as Stoutland assists you in finding the ingredients for Mallow and Lapras helps you find the raging Pokemon for Lana. I hope my description is rather accurate. As we said numerous times, this might completely replace HMs.

    Reply
    • I think it’s more of a loaner situation. Like the ball doesn’t function like a normal Poke Ball in that there is no ownership of the Pokemon. You Probably meet the “Trainer” of these rideable Pokemon and he loans them to you for your journey. Think Battle Factory Pokemon style, just a temporary arrangement :S

      Reply
    • But I like HMs.
I don’t like them being unforgettable and taking up move slots, but I like the abilities.

Maybe if they tweaked HMs so they’re more like Z-moves. The pokemon doesn’t “know” the move, it can use the moves if it’s compatible and in proximity to a special stone (possibly embedded in gym badges). So as long as you have at least one water type, surf, dive, waterfall and whirlpool are go at all times.

      Reply
        • ‘water type’ is a generalisation. Obviously that’s discounting Magikarp and including Lugia, Azurill etc.
The point is you can still use HMs if you have compatible pokemon without the pokemon having to actually know them, hence you don’t need to designate HM slaves, but you would need compatible pokemon in your party. In a way that would make it tie up with the anime better as well since it would explain how people are able to just ride their water pokemon without the pokemon needing to know surf.

    • That’s amazing! I’m personally in love with this 5th move concept. But I won’t enjoy it as much if the game doesn’t have a steep level curve. Otherwise it will make sweeping trainers even easier :/

      Reply
      • It’s not a fifth move, it’s once per battle and only if you have that type
It would just be a stronger version

        Reply
        • A Mega Evolution could be rekted by a Z-Move. Also, Mega Pokemon cannot use Z-Moves and I’m quite sure you have to pick either using a Z-Move or Mega Evolving your Pokemon. This would balance the concepts.

          Reply
          • Assuming both concepts are in the game, I wonder how it will be handled from an aesthetic standpoint. Will the bracelet serve both purposes or will we need to use an alternative to a Mega Ring (pendant, for example) to achieve Mega Evolution?

          • Actually, there is a circular hole on the bottom of the Z-Ring. I’m assuming the Key Stone will reside there. Someone pointed this out a while back.

    • I agree. I really hope it ties into Zygarde and Kalos somehow. It’s been far too long since we’ve had a good postgame!

      Reply
    • I doubt it. Hala gives it to either after defeating him or after the festival battle with Hau. I don’t think this game is going to go lore crazy like X/Y.

  3. I would have preferred if they weren’t just giving new forms to Gen 1 pokemon. Gen 1 gets so much love and exposure as it is and there is a lot of potential outside of it to explore.

    Reply
    • Well I quite love this idea, and had the same idea several years ago already. 😀 (And apparently I am not the only one with the same idea.)

      Reply
    • We could only hope. It is the 20th Anniversary. Based on the rumours, I think it’s just Generation 1, but a boy can dream! I do love the concept of Alolan Pokemon. I kinda wish they did this with Mega Evos instead of creating Mega Evolution. I like it that much.

      Reply
      • Adaptation is a way better concept. Mega evolution, while I think it’s cool, feels forced, while Pokemon adaptation feels natural.

        Reply
      • well fingers crossed the old megas might return as forms in this game. Its seeming less and less likely with every reveal that megas will be returning

  5. Ughhhhh I fear these Z-Moves are already going to be a pain in the butt
Like anything knowing any type of move could easily abuse the Z-Crystal
Like if a Ice Type has Rain Dance while holding a Water Z-Crystal it will be allowed to utilize Hydro Vortex

They should’ve just stuck with Type Super Move
And if they let Hidden Power bypass the whole thing….ughhhhhh

  6. I had so much hope for Littens evolution, but they ruined it, it looks like a villain from those old half animal/half human cartoon characters…….everything else looks amazing though.

  7. As far as worries go, the Japanese trailer showcases the player character, Hau, and Lillie confronted by Hala. What could this mean for our rivals/companions this generation? Hopefully we won’t be having rivals along the lines of X/Y.

    • They will likely travel to the same islands as you and you’ll see them from time to time. I hope each of them have a story arc!

  8. You guys do understand that the Starters and Rockruff or whatever still have their secret right? It can’t just be gender different final evos because if so.. that wouldn’t be special for Rocruff, a seemingly normal pokemon. And, Every pokemon can use Z moves..
Ash greninja is showing up so I believe sync is still intact

  9. I just hope there’s an Evil Team. Already bad enough Gym Leaders are removed. Has it been confirmed Trial Captains are not able to be battled? I heard from a source you can’t battle them. But nothing in the official material says that. In fact, in one bio, it even lists a Pokemon they have.

    Reply
  10. My question is (for competitive battles), can you bring both forms of old Pokemon? or will they still count as same species?

    Reply
    • Its gonna be just like how Wormadam is handled – which i don’t know for certain because Wormadam is never used competitively, but Im pretty certain theyre classified as different Pokemon (or at least you can bring multiple different forms to a match)

      Reply
    • Yes! You cannot obtain the original forms in S/M, but you can transfer them from X/Y/OR/AS or VC games. They are the same species, hence why it’s the Alolan Form. I don’t think they reclassed the Pokemon as they kept their names.

      Reply
      • This makes the least sense to me. These Pokemon are supposed have ‘evolved’ into these new ‘species’ because of the environment/climate they moved to. Why on earth would they only work for Pokemon you transfer over….makes no sense at all

        Reply
        • I think you misread by comment. Alolan Pokemon are from Alola. You can only get their original forms from X/Y/OR/AS/B/W/W2/B2 and the VC Games with Pokemon Bank.

          Reply
          • Oh. Sorry my bad, I’ve just been hearing from other sources that that is how they will work and thought you were saying the same thing. It just didn’t make much sense to me.

        • Remember, evolving doesn’t necessarily mean being a new species. There are other factors to rake in as well. Although, I change from fire to ice is extremely physiologically drastic. One could argue as it being a subspecies as the possibility of a poison type Ninetales is possible in some other unknown region due to its population’s own adaptation. The root species would be Fire type.

Conclusion: most likely the same species, but analogous physiology and anatomy to the root species.

          Reply
          • Hmmm…from what I know of biology. A single species separated geographically will eventually (over millions of years) ‘evolve’ into two separate species, each adapted to its own environment. The original species technically becomes extinct. Of course this is a very simple explanation, I’m not a biologist by any means, so my understanding may be incomplete.

          • No, you’re also correct, but we haven’t had millions of years to answer this question. I love that you brought that up, actually. I’ve studied and research bacteria, fungus, viruses, and parasites my whole school life and totally skipped macro-evolution.

The original doesn’t necessarily become extinct, but it can. You know, I think I’m going to discredit my answer because, as a scientist, I know when I’m wrong. I will say that IceTales is most likely a new species, due to environmental adaptation, that may have been introduced to Alola from Kanto.

          • This is somewhat true, due to Geographic Isolation, which is a form of Reproductive Isolation. For organisms to be of the same species, they must be able to reproduce and produce fertile offspring, and share a gene pool. Over time, geographically isolated members of one original population may encounter gene pool variations*, thus causing the original species to diverge into two separate ones.

*Changes in the allele frequency. The environment doesn’t cause members of a species to forcibly change — it provides beneficial circumstances for members with certain traits. Over time, these traits are more likely to be inherited as those without them die out [This is natural selection]. Because two different environments favor different adaptations, the allele frequencies in both populations change, but different traits are favored. This kind of variation, which produces two different species, is called Disruptive Selection.

Keep in mind that this is all kind of hazy to me, and that Evolution was my weakest subject in Biology 😛

          • Yeh, Biology was never my best subject, more of Chemist myself. But doesn’t stop me from being really intrigued by this.
Like how they explained intense sunlight causing Exegutor to develop like that. It’s interesting, and I hope to see it with more Pokemon.

        • you just cant catch them naturally in alola because they are not available, but if you say transfer over a fire vulpix you can breed it in game to get another fire vulpix, its not going to come out an ice one

          Reply
    • they’re like the rotom forms, even though each of them are different typing for each appliance only one form is allowed.

      Reply
    • ok think of it this way as some people seem utterly confused by the forms (which i don’t get but still) its like shellos only they span games and not just location in on region, so you have ice ninetales in alola and fire everywhere else, they are the same pokemon but different because of where they live, so its not going to change a normal vulpix to an ice one, they are like shellos

      Reply
      • Well, that’s not exactly true.. If you read the Pokemon Page for Sandslash, it states that it is slower than the ground version, so they will have different status, not only visual.. as well as different typing and abilities. Basically, different Pokemon.

        Reply
        • ok that doesn’t really make my statement false though… think meowstic, they have different stats per form, and also think the Nidoqueen/king, they are kinda in the same boat as the variants, technically the same pokemon but different, thats what I’m trying to get at here, they are separate but also the same

          Reply
          • yes, but technically they are the same as well, just like shellos, the only difference is that shellos share a pokedex entry while the nidos come too early for that, but the ice/fire vulpixs will be separate species in a way as well, but each stemming from the original and I imagine they will share a pokedex entry but it they are still different pokemon, but also the same, do you understand what I’m saying?

  11. Any word on if there’s more Pokémon you can surf on with Poké Ride, other than Lapras and Sharpedo? Like Empoleon perhaps?

    I want to Ride on an Empoleon ;-;
