7/19 Pokémon Sun & Moon Update

Just under three weeks since the last Pokémon Company reveal, we’re getting another Pokémon Sun & Moon update today! We’re not entirely sure what to expect, though we could see the two new Pokémon revealed in Corocoro make an appearance and maybe more!

A new trailer has been released in both English and Japanese!

New Details and Information

Pokémon

  • Bounsweet the Grass type Pokémon
  • Bewear Normal/Fighting type, can have the new Fluffy Ability that halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves
  • Comfey a Fairy type Pokémon that can have the Triage ability which means this Pokémon’s restorative moves gain the highest priority in battle
  • Mudsdale a Ground type horse Pokémon. Mudsdale can have the new Stamina Ability which means the Pokémon’s Defense goes up by 1 when it’s hit by an attack
  • Wimpod is a Water/Bug type Pokémon that has the Wimp Out ability; upon reaching 50% HP it will run away or switch with another Pokémon during battle!
  • Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type Pokémon with the new ability Disguise; upon entering battle its disguise will take the first attack for it (no confirmation whether this is affected by contact hits or not)

Game Mechanics

  • Pokémon can now access ‘Hyper Training’ which allows for IVs to be raised for the first time ever. This is accessible at level 100 and uses ‘bottle caps’. No word if you can transfer them over from Fallout.
  • You can now host tournaments on the Global Link!

  1. I’m siding with Earthen on this one…we need lots more Ground-types. We only had one last gen, which is unacceptable. Game Freak really needs to double down on typing distribution (which they have done a great job with for Bug so far).

  3. That is the ability they gave to Mimikyu. . ? My god. . . How can 1 Pokemon have such a bad ass design, an absolutely amazing typing, AND a broken ability? Thank you GF.

  4. Woah woah woah, Disguise negates the damage taken from the first hit? NO WAY. That actually makes me think that it won’t be evolving any further. Any stat increase to that thing would just be.. Meta-game-murder. Still love it tho

  5. I’m liking these new Pokemon, another batch that are simple yet well thought out. I so wanna see all the evolutions now but I’ve gotta be patient (which is easy as I love going Pokemon hunting)

  6. Alrighty, I actually burst out laughing b/c of Bewear’s name. And I really like Mudsdale, Mimikyu, and Wimpod. 🙂

  7. Oh now I finally get it through my thick headed skull. This was the information to be revealed. I’m becoming very concerned though. No confirmation of Pokemon Gyms yet or more characters. Maybe the Chinese leaker is right? 🙁 But anyways, aside from that, I love the other four new Pokemon. Especially Mudsdale. <3

    • Gyms are rarely shown early though.

Usually only the first Gym Leader is revealed before the games release.

      Give it time.

    • I like the idea of no gyms.
Pokemon games all have a standard format and no gyms will shake things up.
But I don’t want that rumor to be true since I hate the starter evos

  8. Okay, there’s gotta be like 150 pokemon in this region…. they’ve revealed so many <3 now onto dark types please 🙂 also I'm sure wimpod will evolve into a giant isopod. Right now I think it takes inspiration from a sea roach.

  11. I’m really glad we’re getting constant Relevant Information

I like all the designs and I love how Gamefreak is giving everything unique abilities.

But aside from Pokemon, we haven’t gotten any info at all. No gym leaders, city names, Villain team details,What the bracelets do,mega evolution etc

I wonder why they’re so quiet about other things

  12. I can think of so many good names for Mudsdale right now.

    Big Mac
    Sparta
    Clay
    Artemis
    Man O’ War
    Red Rum (or Redrum)

The last two names were from notable horse in history.

  13. The Sun/Moon meta-game is going to be on fire come this November! These abilities, Synchro, and other implementations – with older Pokemon bound to receive some as a second or HA – are going to bring the biggest meta-game change since Mega-Evolution. Hopefully it won’t be the same 12 Pokemon in every team and there’s more diversity since that seems to be the route Pokemon is going for.
