7/19 Pokémon Sun & Moon Update

Just under three weeks since the last Pokémon Company reveal, we’re getting another Pokémon Sun & Moon update today! We’re not entirely sure what to expect, though we could see the two new Pokémon revealed in Corocoro make an appearance and maybe more!

A new trailer has been released in both English and Japanese!

New Details and Information

Pokémon

  • Bounsweet the Grass type Pokémon
  • Bewear Normal/Fighting type, can have the new Fluffy Ability that halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves
  • Comfey a Fairy type Pokémon that can have the Triage ability which means this Pokémon’s restorative moves gain the highest priority in battle
  • Mudsdale a Ground type horse Pokémon. Mudsdale can have the new Stamina Ability which means the Pokémon’s Defense goes up by 1 when it’s hit by an attack
  • Wimpod is a Water/Bug type Pokémon that has the Wimp Out ability; upon reaching 50% HP it will run away or switch with another Pokémon during battle!
  • Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type Pokémon with the new ability Disguise; upon entering battle its disguise will take the first attack for it (no confirmation whether this is affected by contact hits or not)

Game Mechanics

  • Pokémon can now access ‘Hyper Training’ which allows for IVs to be raised for the first time ever. This is accessible at level 100 and uses ‘bottle caps’. No word if you can transfer them over from Fallout.
  • You can now host tournaments on the Global Link!

  1. Im loving that abandoned pre-school looking place that you are battling Mimikyu in, in the trailer it seems like the best place for it.
Also isn’t it funny how we have only see evolutions for one pokemon revealed so far, like any one of these pokemon have so much possibility to evolve and that is so exciting

    • I hope they save most evolutions for release. I’m curious about new evolution methods; things got pretty interesting with Inkay and Pancham, so I can definitely see some improvement there.

  2. whoever said bounsweet is a mangosteen you are almost certainly correct. if you google a mangosteen you should get a pic of the inside of one and its stem which resembles bounsweet’s stem and lower part of its body

  3. AHHHHHHH THEY’RE AMAZING! I LOVE ALL OF THEM!
Wimpod is such a cutie <3 I want 100 of them~ (it's my favourite out of this batch, next to Mimikyu)
I also REALLY love Comfey's design – it's so pretty!
Bounsweet reminds me of Cherubi somewhat. It's pretty cute!
Mudsdale it's pretty cool too. We might be able to ride it for sure.

  5. Thank goodness, we finally have a reason for Bewear’s design. It has a powerful upright spine and highly developed arms and legs with equal weight distribution. At the same time, it happens to look like a teddy bear! The thing has really grown on me.

  6. Okay okay. Yesterday my brother came up and asked if Absol was a planned eeveelution, which made me think, and he actually might have been on to something. I wouldn’t be surprised if scrapped design elements from umbreon went into the design process for Absol.

  7. idk about anyone else but i love the bug/water typing for wimpod. one of my favorites from hoenn is surskit and i use a masquerain competitively although it lost its water typing for flying

          • you mean thru mega? that would be freakin awesome. i think I’m with you as masque rain being one of my favorite bugs

          • thank you, totally agree. while i do think that masque rain is on the frail side, i dont think that a mega is necessary i would hope a stat buff like they did when xy came out. the spD isn’t bad iirc and the intimidate ability helps a lot. its just the rock attacks it takes

  8. Two comments I have after watching some of the individual Pokemon battle scenes

    1) Vikavolt is still looking boss AF even in another Pokemon’s battle scene lol
    2) As much as I still like the style, I am getting a little worried about the ability markers that pop up. I really like the idea of the paint strokes, but they are too big, too in the middle of the screen, and stay on for too long……

    • 1) That was done to show off Wimp Out
      2) I think they are fine, they might not be like that in the final released but just in the trailers, to highlight the different abilities.

      • Well yeah I could see them being slightly different in the game, but they are just so big!! If they were smaller or not as in the way then they’d be fine, but it’s just a little jarring lol

    • its flavour text makes it even cuter.

“When attacked by other Pokémon, it throws its flowers at them to create an opening, and then it either flees or strikes back.”

      Reply
        • maybe it will eventually become fairy/grass where florges didn’t,but much like the flabebe line, the flowers are not part of it so who knows, but I must say its Triage ability seems very neat

  9. Still nothing that has disappointed me yet… Man this gen is really pleasing me pokemon wise. It’s also testing my loyalty to Hoenn

  10. I can say pretty confidently that Mudsdale has a pre-evolution. I’m thinking that this is a Noivern equivalent for Alola, in terms of reveal. I love it, by the way!

  11. So far we’ve got 34 confirmed Pokemon (25 officially revealed + starter evolutions + Rockruff evolution + 2 Pikipek evolutions). I think it’s looking like we’re getting a decent sized batch this time around.

    • I seriously can’t believe we only have that many. How they’ve managed to cram so many amazing designs in that timeframe is beyond me. We still have lots of surprises in store, but I could seriously be content with what we have.

      • Is it confirmed that each island has a guardian or did we assume that? I mean, it makes sense of course, but has it been officially confirmed?

        • its funny you say this because i love kangaskhan which is a kangaroo which is a marsupial. koalas are also marsupials and one of my favorite animals and i really would love parental bond. i know this defeats the purpose of it being a sleep-less koala theme but i really want this. or at least give it a baby for its evolution

  12. This gen is shaping up to be the best one ever. I still have no idea of what my team will be besides a female Litten and that lizard (kinda busy atm to learn the names). Now I just need a strong dark type *cries*
