7/19 Pokémon Sun & Moon Update

Just under three weeks since the last Pokémon Company reveal, we’re getting another Pokémon Sun & Moon update today! We’re not entirely sure what to expect, though we could see the two new Pokémon revealed in Corocoro make an appearance and maybe more!

A new trailer has been released in both English and Japanese!

New Details and Information

Pokémon

  • Bounsweet the Grass type Pokémon
  • Bewear Normal/Fighting type, can have the new Fluffy Ability that halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves
  • Comfey a Fairy type Pokémon that can have the Triage ability which means this Pokémon’s restorative moves gain the highest priority in battle
  • Mudsdale a Ground type horse Pokémon. Mudsdale can have the new Stamina Ability which means the Pokémon’s Defense goes up by 1 when it’s hit by an attack
  • Wimpod is a Water/Bug type Pokémon that has the Wimp Out ability; upon reaching 50% HP it will run away or switch with another Pokémon during battle!
  • Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type Pokémon with the new ability Disguise; upon entering battle its disguise will take the first attack for it (no confirmation whether this is affected by contact hits or not)

Game Mechanics

  • Pokémon can now access ‘Hyper Training’ which allows for IVs to be raised for the first time ever. This is accessible at level 100 and uses ‘bottle caps’. No word if you can transfer them over from Fallout.
  • You can now host tournaments on the Global Link!

  1. Hey guys, can anyone answer me this, please: in the japanese trailer showing off these new mons, in the part where Mimikyu is shown battling against an Ariados, why does it look like Mimi is about to attack when it gets hit by the opponent? No other pokémon in the trailer does that..

    Reply
    • Could be what Lav said, or Ariados is using Sucker Punch. The new animation might actually include the other mon trying to attack before SP lands. If what I said is true, that’s actually pretty cool, the attention to detail is much appreciated

      • Oh, I see; that’s highly likely, even though they are trying simpler designs for the new mons, the attention to detail is really apparent this gen!

    • I have no idea, it looks nothing like it to me… It’s yellow but that’s where the similarities end in my eyes, the snapchat thing looks more like a sheet ghost to me.

    • Snapchat has a filter that puts flower crown on your head. However flower crowns existed before Snapchat. The Goddess of Sugar Daddies (aka Lana del Rey) is always depicted with flower crowns in ancient paintings.

  2. Honestly I’m surprised Kukui doesn’t study abilities (though doesn’t birch do that?) because there are so many new complex abilities in Alola.

  3. I hope Wimpod has two evos where he becomes more confident. The next evo won’t be scared and be overall normal, while the final evo will be teeming with confidence, even recklessness.

  4. Hello I am bit late to the party.
I have to say I am not really thrilled with the newbies, except Wimpod cause I already see it killing it with his evo. They need to push up the variations with the types. To many bugs and water types already.

Wonder if the Ghosty will have more than just a Pikachu disguise and if it will evolve.

Still sad no Megas, hopefully we get a bunch next time.

  5. Crazy idea: what if there was a normal evo for comfey and a split evo where you had to have flabebe in your party. It says comfey picks flowers and never lets them go, so what if comfey picked up a Flabebe’s flower? A fusion evo would be cool.

    • I had a similar idea, but I was thinking that it was just plain, another evolution of Flabebe, like you need to achieve a certain condition before it would evolve into Comfley. 😀

      • It’s ugly, I don’t like anything about it, I’ll never use it, hope I won’t see it too frequently and I wonder if it has any evolved or pre evolved forms

    • Really? Aren’t you happy with the first Alola Ground-Type? Today has been an amazing day for Pokemon and Persona fans!

      Reply
      • I absolutely love it, but since it’s such a big hit everyone is adding it to their teams
One thing I usually never have to worry is Grounds aren’t usually a fan favorite so not many people load up on them

        • I get that completely. It doesn’t feel as special when everyone wants it. But believe me when I say this is announcement day fever. Same thing happened with Rockruff and Pikipek, not to mention Cutiefly, oh and Salandit . . . You see my point? This happens on almost every announcement day and then it tapers off.

          • True but you know how I can be sometimes
I have a cripplingly strong sense of uniquity

Nobody dare mack on my style

          • Don’t worry about it; in a week or two when the next big announcement comes up, everyone will “add the Pokemon to their team” and Mudsdale will be a thing of the past for people other than the true fans of it. Trust me, I’ve seen it happen many many times.

        • You can use Pokemon that other people use yanno. Who cares if 10 other people on here are gonna use Mudsdale, chances are that your exact team won’t be the same & does it matter that much. If it fills a space, I’ll use Pokemon for type coverage & cause I like it aesthetically

          • I do care
And believe me it’s extremely possible for many people to have a team extremely similar if not exact as yours

Teams aren’t just some game to me, dey’re like parts of me that respond to my aspects

          • Well if your team’s the same, you’re gonna have to prove your skill and beat em, the only Earthen way to do it

I’m quite sentimental with my team too, I even give them they’re own lil space in the PC when I’m egg hatching

          • Though bad example
Do you know how many fracking duplicate teams I see on showdown everyday

          • “Truly skilled trainers try to win with their favorites”
Meaning it doesn’t matter what people think or do. As long you like it, use it.
Karen was a genious, and they say dark leaders are evil

        • I’m not planing on adding it. I mean I like it, but it wont be on my team. (My mom will probably have it though, she loves all the horse type Pokemon. 😀 I’m going to get a game for my mom to play, because I’m tired of not having anybody, ((That I personally know)) to play the games with.

  6. Out of all these new abilities I can easily see how one could abuse them and make you want to pull your hair out
Bulk up to endure the hit into Stamina with a Sitrus berry
Spamming Synthesis with a Sun Team with Tirade
    Subbing a Disquise
And…. I guess Fluffy is counterable with Fire and Wimp out is quite literally the wimpiest ability every conceived unless you can maybe stack U-Turn I just don’t see this being useful unless a high speed toxic and scram

  7. Ohohohoho
These Tournaments can restrict non sun and moon Pokemon, interesting
now if they could detect and reject hacked Pokemon I’d be in hell (I know what I said)

  8. hey in the Japanese clip with mimikyu, it looks to be a abandoned market. but there is a logo on the wall, it looks like a pokemon, but im not sure which one.

  9. I read in Serebii’s Confirmed Info and Hoaxes forum that the bag only has four pockets. I’m guessing they’re misc items, key items, medicine, and tms, but what about berries? Surely they aren’t removing them.

  10. So it seems like all these Pokemon are from the 3rd island of Alola (counter clockwise according to map). The first batch of Pokemon I think were from the second Island. I have a feeling that we are getting Pokemon from the 4th island next.

    What do you guys think?

    Reply
    • What makes you say they’re from the 3rd island? I personally think the place where Wimpod is battled looks like the first island and Salandit is on the third (CCW). But I believe you’re correct about the fourth because we’re getting that island in the next Corocoro, I believe.

      Reply
      • It looked like the area they were battling was part of the 3rd island (except for Wimpod XD) and Salandit was in the group of Pokemon I was talking about. The pokemon that I feel like are on the second island are: the starters (duh lol), the obvious first route pokemon, komala, rockruff, cutiefly, togademaru, and bruxish.
