7/19 Pokémon Sun & Moon Update

Just under three weeks since the last Pokémon Company reveal, we’re getting another Pokémon Sun & Moon update today! We’re not entirely sure what to expect, though we could see the two new Pokémon revealed in Corocoro make an appearance and maybe more!

A new trailer has been released in both English and Japanese!

New Details and Information

Pokémon

  • Bounsweet the Grass type Pokémon
  • Bewear Normal/Fighting type, can have the new Fluffy Ability that halves the damage taken from attacks that make direct contact, but in return it also doubles the damage taken from Fire-type moves
  • Comfey a Fairy type Pokémon that can have the Triage ability which means this Pokémon’s restorative moves gain the highest priority in battle
  • Mudsdale a Ground type horse Pokémon. Mudsdale can have the new Stamina Ability which means the Pokémon’s Defense goes up by 1 when it’s hit by an attack
  • Wimpod is a Water/Bug type Pokémon that has the Wimp Out ability; upon reaching 50% HP it will run away or switch with another Pokémon during battle!
  • Mimikyu is a Ghost/Fairy type Pokémon with the new ability Disguise; upon entering battle its disguise will take the first attack for it (no confirmation whether this is affected by contact hits or not)

Game Mechanics

  • Pokémon can now access ‘Hyper Training’ which allows for IVs to be raised for the first time ever. This is accessible at level 100 and uses ‘bottle caps’. No word if you can transfer them over from Fallout.
  • You can now host tournaments on the Global Link!

  2. Isn’t Bewear’s ability just a weakened version of Fur Coat?

Both of them Halve damage from direct Contact Attacks. But Fluffy adds a fire type weakness as well

  3. Bounsweet is adorable. It is like what I wish Cherrim was.

If we dont have to breed to get perfect IVs and EVs anymore I will be so happy. I can breed shinies without worrying about IVs

    Tournament mode also looks awesome.

Interesting that after Mimikyu’s disguise ability activated, it fell over then it cut off. Wonder if it’s going to reveal its true adorable self.

    My team so far is
    Popplio3
    PikiPek
    Mimikyu
    Bounsweet

  4. Idk about this tourney mode, i love the thought of it because i love tournaments. But i just look at smash and how it handled tourney mode so badly i doubt this will be any better. Maybe they will do better.

  5. Even though Bounsweet is pure Grass type now, that doesn’t rule out a possible future evolution being Grass/Fairy. To me, it looks like it, along with Wimpod, will evolve at least once. Mudsdale might have a pre-evolution or be standalone. And I think that Comfey is our object Pokemon of the Generation and will be standalone like Klefki was in Generation 6.

  7. So all I’m seeing on social media are the “pokemon go fans” dissing on these new pokemon and I just want to slap them back to not liking pokemon… I just can’t wait for these fake fans to stop playing so the real fans can enjoy the franchise….

    • Hmm, maybe it’ll get super confident as it evolves and have an ability that forces the opponent to switch, that’d be amusing.

  8. Alright 😀 Glad that I awoke to some surprise news! <3
I love Wimpod, es my fav out of the 'new' bunch (excluding Bewear and Mimikyu since we've seen them before), I love the fact it is so based on a horseshoe crab and its typing makes sense and its behavior I just so love it <3 definitely a contender for a spot on one of my teams
Mudsdale is my second fav as I really like horses and its design and personality is great 🙂 I would get rid of the long parts of the mane tha t look like dreadlocks but that's just me
Bounsweet and Comfrey look really cute, I really like the lei part of Comfrey, I've always wondered if leis would be incorporated in Alola
Mimikyu is still awesome, love that background when you see it (cemetery :D) and even in-game I'm still not too fond of Bewear although I can respect the pun in its name
Hyper Training looks cool and yeah I think that's it 😀

  9. Assault Vest Mudsdale might be fun. Doesn’t look like it will evolve so Eviolite is out of the question.

    • IKR!!
It has 3 immunities and double resists one type. It only has weaknesses against two types.
It can attack any type combination for neutral coverage except Fire/Dark and Steel/Normal. Also it’s ability disguise guarantees it will move at least once.

  10. So apparently the lei in comfey isnt part of the pokemon, the pokemon is the green ball and that green ball picks flowers to create a lei, sort of how flabebe’s flower isnt part of flebebe itself

  11. Well, I just learned about the move Rototiller; I had never heard of it before now. It makes me wonder how much else I don’t know about the games that dominate the majority of my life. :p

  12. Where was it revealed that Yungoos has one evolution? I know the statement surfaced shortly after E3, but I’ve never seen evidence- only what other people say.

    • remember how when you catch a pokemon you can see how many times it evolves? well when they catched yungoos there was a pokeball next to it

      • I hate assuming though. Sure, Pokemon has a general formula, but it doesn’t have to be followed exactly, and the fanbase doesn’t know the creators’ intentions until they’re officially confirmed. 3 years ago we assumed that Fletchling would stay Normal/Flying because that’s just how it’s always been, but look where that got us.

    • When Masuda played the demo after E3 at a event (Can’t remember the name), people saw that it evolved once in the Pokedex. I dunno if anyone took a picture to prove it, but that’s where I heard it from 🙂

    • Still missing water for me. I’m considering using Kingdra if it is in the game, because it’s one of my favorites that I never really use. Though I try to use only new mons.
