August CoroCoro Leaking {UPD1}

The latest edition of Japanese comic magazine CoroCoro has been leaked and we are currently translating it for any new information 🙂

  • Bear is called Kiteruguma. It is described as cute yet deadly. It is classified as the powerful-arms Pokémon. It’s hug is dangerously strong and people in the Alola region regularly put warning signs out. It is Normal/Fighting with abilities Fluffy/Klutz. It’s name is possibly a play on words for “to wear” and “it’s here!”
  • Deflated Pikachu-esque Pokémon is Mimikkyu. It is a Ghost/Fairy type with the ability Disguise and is said to lurk in the darkness. It is classified as the bakenokawa (a veil hiding a monster) Pokémon. The body is black and the Pikachu-looking part is actually cloth-like and covers it from the sun. The article warns people about looking under its veil. It’s name seems to come from ears, mimic and ~kkyu (cute/timid sounding),
UPD1: A clearer scan of a section with Mimikkyu’s information has surfaced: “The reason that Mimikkyu resembles Pikachu…!? It modelled itself after Pikachu goods that were all the rage 20 years ago?! It seems it wants to make friends with humans just like Pikachu“.<3 PJ

    • It’s okay, some pokemon designs grow on you. Some pokemon have meh artwork but look cool when rendered in 3D, or have cool concepts but meh execution. I for one, love red pandas, so part of me like this guy, but also I think it could’ve been better. Mimikkyu is alright, I like the typing and concept, but it’s not really something that I have to have on my team. I’ll have to see what they evolve/don’t evolve into and their stat spread before I make any final decisions about whether or not I really like them.

    • Es alright, initial reactions can be like that. I used to though Drampa was super weird, but it’s grown on me as well. That’s why I don’t take too much stock into my initial reaction until I see more

      • Maybe it’s because it’s bipedal and looks sort of strange. Also the coloring/patterning is sort of bland, hence to why I think it must evolve again. I also kind of wonder why it’s so tall, that is a very distinct departure from the size of a Red Panda

        • Simple designs man. Gamefreak can’t win. Its not the simple design for me or the colors scheme, although the pink is odd as fairy has kind of adopted that for the most part when it comes to normal types that were adapted to fairy. But oh well.

          • Pink is definitely weird…Red Pandas are beloved for their scarlet fur. It’s a defining feature.

  1. Still around til leaks are confirmed, I’m curious from a design perspective how you would be able to draw those scribbly eyes on mimikkyu in the 3D or in the anime and make them look identical every frame.

  2. I can’t wait to see the trailer for these guys on Friday. Should be interesting to see their 3D in-game models. You can only see so much from the Official Artwork and a low quality scan. And besides, I’d love for them to show Mimikkyu to appear in the cemetery with the Japanese town and lighthouse on the smaller island connecting to the Volcano island. I have a feeling it will appear there. I have to admit that it took a while, but I’m accepting Kiteruguma and Mimikkyu as part of the Alola family. We have 21 new ones introduced, bringing the grand total of known species to 742!

  3. Well at least Kiteruguma is a more acceptable Red Panda than that drunken bear Spinda. Although I will admit its in game movements are cute

  4. While the official artwork is meh, I do think Kiteruguma is pretty adorable when hugging that tree to death. It’s got that steadfast and dopey look on its face. All it wants to do is hug something and not have it be crushed. Kinda like Jigglypuff almost, except with singing.

  5. Just got on to see these…. They’re certainly…. Unique…. The bear looks like a little kid drawing to me and the other one is fine… I guess :/

  6. I’m glad they gave a backstory to Mimikkyu because otherwise it’d be as stupid and gimmicky as Foongus and Amoonguss’ pokeball tops

  7. Not sure if there’s been a comment on this, but what do we think the english names will be?

    Timbear?
    Bearhug? XD

    Spirichu?

    Idk, that’s all I got…

  8. Sorry for posting so much but does anyone know where the name Kiteraguma comes from? Idk how much is lost in translation but I see “Kit” which is used to describe young baby animals (which could point to it not being fully evolved, although baby red pandas are called cubs, not kits, which is interesting) and guma, perhaps referring to gummy bears or just that guma means bear in Japanese..

    • I know, from taking Japanese, that the first part is definitely ‘to be wearing (something above the waist, like a shirt)’ like you use it for ‘that person is wearing/wears a red shirt’ although I dunno what the last part could be (although the gummy or gum part might be a possibility)

  9. I somehow managed to run across three new species (Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Growlithe) on the way home from a five-minute car ride! I wasn’t the one driving, don’t worry.

  10. I was going to draw a new icon for myself, but after seeing all of these Pokemon from Sun and Moon, I think I might find a new favorite Pokemon in this Gen.

  11. That spazoid Tyranitartube deducted that Fluffy would increase flinching…..
But interestingly though, he said that they’re classified as “The Strong Armed” and “Costume” Pokemon

  12. So does this confirm the guy on 4Chan?!?!?! I mean he did say a trailer featuring the new mechanic would be shown this week!!!! I’m so pumped!!!!

  13. I don’t have the picture for it, but there’s also a grooming feature that’s gonna be added (with Pikachu, before the trade with Mimikyuu and Pancham)
I think that’s actually kind of cool and I hope that it’ll be implemented with more Pokemon than just Pikachu

  14. OK OK OK lets take a minute to check some stuff off. Not only did the one guy get the new mechanic being shown correct, but the trailer also confirms more Pokemon that can be ridden. I think with this we can confirm that at least some of the leaks are reral!!!

    • I knew the rumors couldn’t be completely fake. There might be some differences, but at this point I’d say we’re good to go on believing them! lol

      • For right now, I’ll still be on neutral. Just to be safe.
Until I see the Pokemon he mentioned that were going to be in the video, then I’ll start to believe them more

          • It is, but it’s still interesting that one aspect seems to be aligning with it, so it gives it some credibility.
I like being on the safe side tho 🙂

    • I’m so happy that there’s no form change. I’d be surprised if Megas returned with such a feature included. Things are looking up!

      Reply
      • As happy as I am this is not some new form change mechanic, not bringing back megas would negate any happiness derived thereof for me. I may not have been a fan of them at first but you just can’t introduce a feature like that and remove it.
