JungleTalk: Competitive

With our final update for PJT scheduled tomorrow, what better time than now to talk about the competitive scene in Pokémon?

Competitive Battling in Pokémon really is a huge deal, there’s an annual World Championship tournament to find the world’s best Pokémon trainer, entire websites dedicated to battling and much, much more.

This JungleTalk is a relatively simple an broad one, just focusing on the competitive aspect of Pokémon as a whole. We want to know any memorable battles you’ve had, any cool sweeps or times you’ve fallen victim to an effective sweep, your favorite Pokémon you like to use in battle…

Anything! Tell us about your competitive experiences! We’re looking forward to hosting our biggest tournament (the first of many to come, no less!) and can’t wait to begin in just a few days! 😀

But anyways, I always lose competitive battles so I’m excited to see where this PJT goes with my new team I worked hard on…

  2. I still want to try my Trollfisk idea
    How does this sound
Bold max HP and a split of Defenses
    Sand Veil
    Mud Slap
    Double Team
    Toxic
    Protect
Basically run i’ll this with a Sandstorm and and just drop the opponent’s accuracy and raise my evasion while Toxic whittles them down and they’ll be driven to madness when they can’t touch him
Please note this is purely a gimmick moveset

  3. I’m loving everyone’s battle posts! 😀
My favorite sweeps were with my Clefable Clair 🙂 I swept 6-0 against 4 teams because they allowed me to set up some cosmic powers and Stored Power em away!
I’ve had a lot of close battles with me losing and winning in the end (Shout out to TCMets, Regi, Heavy, Defensive and Rocket!) and these type of battles are the most enjoyable for me because theyre unpredictable who’s the winner going to be.
A team that completely shut me out was Regi’s stall team with Skarmory and M-Tyra. I couldnt put a dent in his Skarm and it kept whirlwinding me xD

Overall, Competitive Battling in Pokemon is more than just some digital monsters (:P) battling. Its an opportunity to establish friendships, rivalries, and exchanging ideas between people with a shared interest and I’m glad that X & Y has made this possible with the 3ds wifi capabilities and PSS function 🙂
Can’t wait for the PJT next week and wish all who are participating good luck!

  4. I have horror stories from battling regi. But I’ll never forget our first battle. It was our in-game teams, and it was an amazingly close battle. I still have it saved and uploaded as a Battle Video. You da best teacher regi :’)

  6. So many to name and amazing battles xD I sweeped most of Chandy’s team the other day with my Mega Heracross :3 and had a few close calls with several other trainers.I lose to TC’s teams all the time but his battles are some of the most fun one’s out there 🙂 he knows what he’s doing and a tough nut to crack ;~; xD Jordin can sweep away good as well remember that Scrafty O_O in general I pretty much don’t mind losing because I always have fun doing it. And everyone I have gone up against their teams are so well put together and you can tell they worked hard on their Pokémon and know how to use em so I admire that in an opponent. As for favorite Pokémon to battle with that’s a really tough choice since so many of them bailed me out of hard spots xD my Whistle though she’s special to me and I love having to battle alongside her <3 Emerald as well oh boy XD I wanna a rematch RIO D::D lol

  7. Does anyone have a female numel in a heavy ball? Or could someone breed an extra for me? I’d love a shiny Camerupt in a heavy ball. Thanks guys.

But, on topic: I love playing competitively with my shiny Salamance and shiny Metagross. I know Metagross doesn’t do too well right now but I’m hoping the Mega helps a lot.

  8. I once got swept by a Calm Mind Sylveon. And I also won against one of my friends who used 4 legendaries against my party. Probably my most memorable battle in XY

    • lol! that reminds me i fought a guy in my class who used a whole team of hacked level 60 legends and i beat him with my non-EV trained playthrough team that was 20 levels lower

      • Whoa. That amazing! My team was fully EV-trained, around level 60s against his level 100 Dialga, Palkia, Giratina and Landorus, plus Gallade and Mega Absol.

  9. I like making anti-meta or troll teams.
I can count all that times that Accelgor crippled an enemy Xerneas in Showdown Ubers. It’s so good. No one seems to catch on…

I tend to not play with my favorites all the time and force them into teams if they don’t fit or aren’t good at all. But I like to find the hidden good strats and underestimated Pokemon.
