Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: Mega Evolution

Welcome to Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

As you may remember, last year we had ran an ongoing set of feature articles in the run-up to the launch of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. We called the series Journey to X & Y and in it we explored a variety of different topics and ideas, creating some intense and interesting discussion. Due to some bad time management we cut the series short before we had covered each generation of Pokémon and never reached the third generation; a couple of months back however, we rebooted it with Generation 3. Then came the announcement of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire…

What better way to countdown to the release of Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire than with a new series of articles? (There is no better way, duh.) It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Much like J2XY this series will begin with articles every so often, then ramping up in the weeks before the games release. We’ll be bringing you different topics and ideas for discussion, as well us some interesting new things for the site, so keep an eye out!

First things first…

The first article in the series however feature on Mega Evolution. Now, a week or so ago some of you may have known that myself and a few other staff members were unable to publish articles due to an odd bug with the site. That’s fixed now. During the downtime I asked a certain someone if they would mind logging in to my account and seeing if they could access the publishing tools. That certain someone was DefensiveBastiodon (he also takes credit for my wonderful bio text and avatar).

I simply asked him to set up an article with a title to see if I could edit in my own post content. That’s not quite what I got though. Instead he had written out a full article for me. Usually I’m against publishing material others have created, because…I just like seeing my own work too much. Deleting it all would have felt a little harsh though. So, with full credit to my good friend DefensiveBastiodon I present to you the very first Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire!

Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: Mega Evolutions

Pokémon X and Y introduced the world to Mega Evolutions back in 2013. Since then they have been accepted and have gained momentum as a popular way to change the tides of battle, despite the fans’ uncertainty about the idea when they were first revealed. Probably the most unfortunate part about their introduction was the small number of Megas actually released. It was like a missing spice in a new dish being served to the public, only waiting to slightly disappoint customers and cause them to rage until the next course; this next course being the long awaited return to the ever popular region, Hoenn, in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in November.

With that being said, what new Mega Evolutions do you want to see in ORAS? We already know that there will be at least two new ones, Mega Latios and Mega Latias. There are the also possibilities of Swampert and Sceptile getting Mega Evolutions to coincide with their Fire-Type brethren, Blaziken. Not only that, but there are some ever so popular rumors of Plusle and Minun getting Megas, along with Metagross. It is highly doubtful that, although it was mentioned Mega Evolution was a feature exclusive to Kalos, it is something Game Freak would leave out of future games. What abilities would you like to see introduced alongside the new Megas? Would you like to see them in the after game or have some mysterious part in the main story?

From the looks of it, it seems that Groudon and Kyogre have new forms, but I’m leaning towards them being Megas as well. They have too many feature changes for me to accept them as a form change. “Alpha Form” and “Omega Form?” Who knows, it’s a possibility as well.

  1. Physical Mega Mightyena~
Design: Larger jaws, more menacing and werewolf-like.

    Ability: Strong Jaw
    HP: 90
    Attack: 120
    Defense: 70
    Special Attack: 70
    Special Defense: 60
    Speed: 110

^Able to pick up enough speed to become a threat with the elemental fang moves, and sucker punch for revenge killing.

    Defensive Mega Mightyena~
Design: Fluffy as all get out. You wanted a werewolf mightyena? How about a cute and cuddly wolf instead.
    Ability: Fur Coat
    HP: 100
    Attack: 100
    Defense: 100
    Special Attack: 60
    Special Defense: 80
    Speed: 80

^Able to put up better substitutes and taunt, toxic, rest talk, as well as any other ways to utilize that great defense works well with intimidate to wall and break many stall threats.

    • “they’re able to eat rotten meat without getting ill” I just gagged a little. Wow I never knew they were more related to cats than dogs 0_0 This is quite a good read on hyena’s, and further backs up why they deserve a Mega with Strong Jaws ability lol. Possibly even Dark/Poison typing.

  3. This is where I’d like a few of the mega stones to be located:
[not sure if it has to be between 8-9pm since the Sundial isn’t in Hoenn]

    – Sceptilinite – Stuck in the bark of a tree in Fortree City.
    – Swampertite – Hidden in the abandoned ship (as an ode to the anime episode with with the Marshtomp that was left on the ship and became Swampert)
    – Kecleonite – Mr. Stone of Devon Corporation gives you this stone and tells you to go befriend the Kecleon that’s blocking your entrance to Fortree.
    – Walreinite – found on a small island/cave when the tide is high/low
    – Flygonite – relic castle in the middle of the desert
    – Altarianite – Mirage Island

*random tidbits: Once you beat the game, The TV tells you Latios/Latias are roaming Hoenn region. Catch one and take it to Southern Island and find the stone waiting there for you. And also post-game, have someone at the Weather Institute tell you that Thundurus & Tornadus are roaming Hoenn (version exclusives). Bring both to the weather institute to catch Landorus.

  4. I really just want my Mega Metagross. I really don’t care for many others but of course I’d be happy if a lot of others got megas.

  5. Which city will receive the Lumiose / Castelia treatment ?? 0_0

Rustboro or Lilycove? Lilycove has a department store (which Kalos didn’t have), but Rustboro has a lot of huge buildings like Devon Corp

  6. In 1 week, 1 day from now E3 bombs will detonate and all of your mouths will be foaming from the ORAS goodness (and many other games xD)

    • Riiight!! I’m already foaming at Mortal Kombat X being revealed today but didn’t talk about it cause this wasn’t the place for it, but once more ORAS stuff gets revealed, I won’t be able to contain it. Straight caps lock all that day lol.

  7. Am i the only one who thinks that having new mega evolutions in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is very unlikely?

For that to happen GameFreak would need to release a gigantic update for X and Y that would add the new mega evolutions or make ORAS have its own multiplayer and stop supporting X and Y. Both them are very risky and unlikely in my opinion.

  8. Well done, Defensive, well done. I enjoyed reading that. And the Megas I would like to see are Sceptile, Swampert, Shiftry, Ludicolo, Exploud, Slaking, and Milotic (there are probably more that I can’t think of), along with non-native Megas like Stantler, Electivire, *ahem* AND XATU.

  9. Well i just re-watched the Ash Vs Paul (AMV)
And it makes me want to re challenge TC and finally Beat him

      • Sorta
I actually had him on the rope last time with my Slurpuff with two Calm Minds and a Cotton guard but if only i had taught him Surf for that fight since i only had Draining Kiss an he used his Arcanine which was ineffective, then i would’ve easily taken out Sableye and Chesnaught since Unburden Activated

    • Swagold would be soaring in the skies, dodging your Rock Wreckers, and Toxic you, and you’d faint, and we’d win <3

      • Nawww you’re Swagold got K.o’d by my mamoswine
But the really important battles come from our signature Pokemon
I’ve always seen my Ryperior and your Chesnut duking it out in a Powerhouse Brawl but painfully he falls after putting up a great fight no
        Chesnaught
        Vs
        Excadrill

I see it now, your Chesnaught hurling barrages or Seed Bombs and trying to Crush Excadrill with Hammer Arms while we fight back with Rock Slides and Aerial Aces but you recovering with Spiky Shield Synthesis
We both land blows but show no signs of defeat but a Aerial Ace direct hit Chesnaught Grabs and crushes Excadrill and tosses him to the Ground in stun

But as Chesnaught looms over Excadrill, Excadrill gains a powerful surge of courage and tenacity to NOT BE DEFEATED, then he Bombards Chesnaught with Rock Slide allowing him to perform one final attack
He quickly Burrows deep underground and shoots up into the air while Chesnaught struggles to break free, then Excadrill shoots back down with a powerful combination, Using Aerial Ace to soar down while using his Metal Claw for enhanced power and to top it all off while spinning with Drill Run, then Skybombs Chesnaught with incredible power, massive explosion of power both Pokemon barely standing then Chesnaught fails

  11. The new Megas I’d like to see are Altaria, Sableye, Walrein, Sceptile, Swampert, Regigigas, Floatzel, Metagross, Magmortar and Electivire. If Unova and Kalos finally get a chance, then it would be all the starters, Excadrill, Volcarona, Watchog, Scolipede, Diggersby, Clawitzer, Dragalge and Zygarde
