As you may remember, last year we had ran an ongoing set of feature articles in the run-up to the launch of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. We called the series Journey to X & Y and in it we explored a variety of different topics and ideas, creating some intense and interesting discussion. Due to some bad time management we cut the series short before we had covered each generation of Pokémon and never reached the third generation; a couple of months back however, we rebooted it with Generation 3. Then came the announcement of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire…
What better way to countdown to the release of Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire than with a new series of articles? (There is no better way, duh.) It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Much like J2XY this series will begin with articles every so often, then ramping up in the weeks before the games release. We’ll be bringing you different topics and ideas for discussion, as well us some interesting new things for the site, so keep an eye out!
First things first…
The first article in the series however feature on Mega Evolution. Now, a week or so ago some of you may have known that myself and a few other staff members were unable to publish articles due to an odd bug with the site. That’s fixed now. During the downtime I asked a certain someone if they would mind logging in to my account and seeing if they could access the publishing tools. That certain someone was DefensiveBastiodon (he also takes credit for my wonderful bio text and avatar).
I simply asked him to set up an article with a title to see if I could edit in my own post content. That’s not quite what I got though. Instead he had written out a full article for me. Usually I’m against publishing material others have created, because…I just like seeing my own work too much. Deleting it all would have felt a little harsh though. So, with full credit to my good friend DefensiveBastiodon I present to you the very first Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire!
Road to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: Mega Evolutions
Pokémon X and Y introduced the world to Mega Evolutions back in 2013. Since then they have been accepted and have gained momentum as a popular way to change the tides of battle, despite the fans’ uncertainty about the idea when they were first revealed. Probably the most unfortunate part about their introduction was the small number of Megas actually released. It was like a missing spice in a new dish being served to the public, only waiting to slightly disappoint customers and cause them to rage until the next course; this next course being the long awaited return to the ever popular region, Hoenn, in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in November.
With that being said, what new Mega Evolutions do you want to see in ORAS? We already know that there will be at least two new ones, Mega Latios and Mega Latias. There are the also possibilities of Swampert and Sceptile getting Mega Evolutions to coincide with their Fire-Type brethren, Blaziken. Not only that, but there are some ever so popular rumors of Plusle and Minun getting Megas, along with Metagross. It is highly doubtful that, although it was mentioned Mega Evolution was a feature exclusive to Kalos, it is something Game Freak would leave out of future games. What abilities would you like to see introduced alongside the new Megas? Would you like to see them in the after game or have some mysterious part in the main story?
From the looks of it, it seems that Groudon and Kyogre have new forms, but I’m leaning towards them being Megas as well. They have too many feature changes for me to accept them as a form change. “Alpha Form” and “Omega Form?” Who knows, it’s a possibility as well.

On the top of my head, they are the Magnemite family, Porygon family and Elgyem family

If we do get new megas I suspect them to be available in ORAS only and not able to be traded back into X/Y like spiky eared pichu.
We will get new mega’s, and then the night before ORAS releases they’ll send out a patch update to XY to allow them to see the new mega’s online/trade with them.
OR they do what they did with the mega lati stones and allow it to be visible but it can’t be traded,wonder traded,gts,etc
that’s just a simple block detection that they have on the servers. those always get lifted once they get released officially.

I personally want mega Hariyama and Solrock, Lunatone, tropius, Delcatty, the remaining starters, and Torkoal. I’m sure there are others. But these are the only ones from the top of my head.

dunno what their abilities would be though. I would say keep Levitate but then Luna wouldn’t be able to use Earth Power on Solrock.

Well if everyone’s assumptions are true we’re bound to receive Sceptilite and Swampertite and ergo achieve Mega Evolution with our Starter Pokemon, and assuming Mega Sceptile will be Grass/Dragon and Swampert Retaining Water/Ground and gaining a better ability (No Sap Sipper)
but there are also tons of possibilities for what we could find in the Hoenn region “This Time Around” and i say that because i don’t know if this timeline has even caught wind of Mega Evolution actually existing, and who says we are entitled to Pokemon Native to Hoenn even getting a Mega Evolutions doesn’t say who we get Johto Megas instead

But if some Hoenn Pokemon were to discover their Mega Stones i would hope to see
Hariyamaite-Mega Hariyama gaining the rank of Kinniku Banzuke and becomes a mountain of power and a powerful mind
Flygonite-Mega Flygon to gain a powerful speed boost and Sand Steam to truly become the Desert Spirit secluded in powerful sandstorms
Possibly Kecleonite for Mega Kecleon with some overall enhanced stats to make a Hoenn Signature Pokemon more usable
and if not too much trouble

Mega Ludicolo & Mega Shiftry
or
Mega Seviper & Mega Zangoose (a powerful blood feud)
But also on the non-Hoenn areas
Mega Machamp I mean Alakazam got one and Machamp is the Rival of Physical and Special from Kanto

The thing about Swampert getting Regenerator is, how would that make sense? I know it needs it, but it’s not logical.
Sap Sipper doesn’t make sense either. IMO the only one’s that’ll make sense are either Gooey, or Water Veil.
I know, Sap Sipper would only make sense if it grew mossy and grassy, more swampish. Then it would still be kind os off.
Water Veil would make sense since as a Amphibious Pokemon who’s Ability can be Damp now enhanced to form a protective film of water around the host

It’s a step up from Cloud Nine (even though it’s the same thing). And most Altarias run Cotton Guard, Roost, and Moonblast, so defense fits it perfectly.
True. I’m going to use mine as a flat out sp atker lol. I just need move tutors to release so I can learn Ominous Wind/Heat Wave.

The only reason that Natural Cure would not be good to continue on Altaria is because of how common it is now. We need something unique. Something amazing. Air Lock.
Natural Cure on a wall is soooooooo good D: The ability to get rid of any status condition, poison can’t break it 😀
I’d settle for any mega ability tbh lol, as long as it gets fairy I’ll be content. The one’s I’m breeding now all have natural cure though, so I don’t have to worry about holding a Lum Berry when I baton pass into it.
But, it gets Refresh. And with that bulk. Jeez.

True, but an ideal set on Mega Altaria would have to be:
Roost
Refresh
Cotton Guard
Moonblast/Dragon Pulse
It’s mostly defense with the occasional special attack.
Replace Refresh with Toxic. Wall + Toxic Stall

Plus I looked it up on Blubapedia and it’s origin is stated ‘Altaria is likely based on Peng, Chinese legendary birds of enormous size, said to travel 3000 li in one flap of their mighty, cloud-like wings. They’re often portrayed as having a dragon’s head and whiskers.’
Legendary? Sounds like a fairy to me!
Bulbapedia says a Peng and not a Phoenix.
It’s not a Phoenix, Moltres can be inferred as a Phoenix.
Altaria & Lunatone are the only Pokemon that can learn Moon Blast that aren’t fairy. If they can draw power from the moon, they’re associated with fairies bud.
The fact that it can learn Moonblast shows they were at least considering re-typing Altaria ;~;

It has two things that can create for such a scary Mega wall: Cotton Guard + Recovery
Cotton Guard is definitely going on my set. If we can trade with XY early on I will bring over the shiny swablu that has yet to hatch =( I just finished 60 eggs and not a thing. Going to start again soon lol.

Everything has a reason. You just need to look it up.
Sure their origins are not fairylike, but dedenne could just be typed fairy to promote the type in the new Pikachu clone.
And we need fairies, it’s a small group, so maybe GF decided to make them fairies.
Heck you might argue that they are small creatures, making them fairylike.
Lunatone can learn Moonblast since it already has association and a connection to the Moon doy
But there has to be another reason for Altaria learning Moonblast other then it becoming a Fairy, like Hariyama can learn Brine, but it’s not a water type,
Altaria’s origin also has some celestial lore to it It may also refer to the star Altair, the brightest star in the constellation Aquila, the Eagle.ergo the Peng Dragon and the Bird like Body so it may draw Moonblast from that fact
but Cresselia is associated with the moon, it has a moon cresent on its head, as does Teddiursa, and neither of those can learn Moon Blast. Not even Solrock can learn Moon Blast. Or Elgyem and that’s an alien!!
I would have thought that Cresselia would be a fairy-type. Or learn fairy=type moves.
MoonBlast is Cresselias final move.
But it draws strange psychic power from the moon and the ability to quell nightmares in no sense is it ever associated with Fairies it only represents the Crescent Moon not fairies
and as for Teddiursa dude its just a facial marking not a cosmic sign
And why would a Psychic Meteorite connected to the sun learn Moon blast
and Elgyem is yes an alien but also a floating brain child ergo a Psychic Being not some fairy
And what other knowledge do we have that any Pokemon associated with the Moon is automatically linked to Fairies, nothing maybe its just a coincidence that Altairia could learn moon blast and not a link to a Fairy Mega

Well since we are here to talk about Mega Evolutions that we would like to see, I really want to see Mega Sceptile and of course Mega Swanpert (Don’t really care about that one but it needs one if the other get Megas)! Also, I’d like for Minun and Plusle to get new Mega Evolutions, they are nice and kinda cute but I can’t find use to them, maybe one with Prankster or both with Levitate, something like that!
Mega Sceptile (I know everyone will say it is awful) but I need a Grass/Dragon with Tough Claws or even with Adaptability! For Groudon and Kyogre I’d like new forms with the Orbs because we don’t need everything to be Mega now! New forms like Giratina had!
