Please Stand By. You Broke The eShop (And Bank)

Remember Pokémon Bank, the 3DS app that lets you transfer your old Pokémon to Pokémon X&Y? Well, it’s now released on the eShop! Wait, what’s that you say? The eShop is down? Pokémon Bank isn’t on the eShop? Ohh, I see now! Apparantly too many people bought a 3DS and Wii U as Christmas presents and the network went down from everyone wanting to download their system updates and digital games. Nintendo didn’t think the Wii U would actually sell, so I guess they took no preparations.

Luckily we’re all going to be paying $5 a year so we have reliable Bank servers, so Pokémon Bank should go live the moment the eShop goes back up, right? Nope. As the eShop servers went down, they took the online storage servers of Bank with them. Even if you had downloaded the game, it still wouldn’t work. So much for seperate, reliable servers. Just hope the $5 goes to development of RSE remakes instead of a new sportscar for each Gamefreak executive. Pokémon Bank has now got the tentative release date of To be determined which is not of much help. Still, I’d expect it in the next week or two, once the Christmas/New Year’s rush cools down.

Hope you all had a nice, exhausting Christmas, like I had! I also hope you don’t have to study like I do! I’m going to tackle Organic Chemistry for a while, see you soon. I also didn’t forget about PJM, an update will go live in the coming days.

  1. Hey guys, I was reading some stuff about X/Y, and I have a theory I want to discuss. First, someone looked at trademark fillings for Pokémon, and, among those trademarks, the only Pokémon who didn’t get Mega were Jynx, Sceptile, Kecleon, Plusle, Minun, Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza. Just keep it in mind for some time.
Note: Most of this was written before PokéBeach’s post about Diancie, Volcanion, and Hoopa, and I didn’t want to update the parts that talk about them because it would break an already established line of thought, which I wanted you guys to see.
Also, bolded and underlined texts are links.

Now, I was thinking about stuff like the power plants, the event Pokémon, the Scary House’s story, and the Strange Souvenir.
First look at the power plants. Many people are associating the secret legendaries with them, but I don’t think they are connected.
Diancie is probably going to be found in that room on the Reflecting Cave, the only place where you can find Carbink, as the two Pokémon have an obvious connection (HERE).
Hoopa, the best I can think of is the graves near the Scary House (I’ll explain later).
Volcanion is the only one that seems like something you would find in one of the power plants, but even so, he could be the Lava Dome Pokémon in Jaune Plaza. And even if it is in one of power plants, it would leave the others empty. Furthermore, there are three event legendaries, but four unaccessible power plants. What about the last one?

Even further, let’s look at their types and the messages in the museum. Many people are making connections between the legendaries.
In Nintendo Blast, a reader of the article the dark side of Kalos, said:

The Water/Fire matches with converting fire energy into electric, the Rock/Fairy matches with taking energy from the ground’s heay, and the Ghost/Psychic one matches with taking energy from decomposing gases.

That’s just something I associated while reading.

However, another reader objected to this:

William Lex, actually you WANTED to associate such a message with the news about the new legendaries. The problem is that there are some misexplained points by doing this.

    I would think the following:
    -“…converts fire energy into electric and represents passion and life…” – Fire/Electric (fire represents passion, and electricity represents life. Water really remits to life, but how would it fit with the electric part generated from fire?);
    -“…extracts heat from the ground and represents the love beeneath everyone’s surface…” – Ground/Fairy (clearly says ground, not rock. Besides, “beneath everyone’s surface”, even if figuratively, could have been used to give it a double meaning);
-“takes its energy from gas of composting waste, representing the desire of leaving a legacy even after the end of life…” – Poison/Ghost? (gas remits to Poision, even though not every gas is poisonous… but “after the end of life”, clearly remits to Ghost. How would Psychic fit here?)

I must also add that animals have electricity in them, though I don’t remember if all of them have.
So basically, the types don’t make sense for the event legendaries. This is even weirder when you take into account that, in B2/W2, a scientist in Virbank Complex hinted at the possibility of catching a Pokémon in a dome-shaped gas holder, but no new Pokémon seems to fit said description, and it would be very weird if that went nowhere.
This makes me think the paintings aren’t referring to known Pokémon.

Now, remember the story at the Scary House? They mentioned a “horde of faceless men”. Pay attention by the word “horde”, this being the Generation that introduced horde battles. However, no known Pokémon fits in the description. Someone suggested that he was referring to a horde of Yamask, but Yamask besides being unobtainable in X and Y, it also doesn’t resemble a man.
Why would you be forced to hear this story if it has nothing to do with the plot? There must be some reason for this. The strangest part is that right at the end of the story Trevor asks if the story is even true, and if you go back to the man, he says that “Some things are best left unknown… The truth is best carried to the grave.”, and the best I can make out of this, is that Hoopa (Ghost/Psychic) is found at the graves near the house (Grave, death, Ghost; Truth, knowledge, Psychic), but Hoopa is not a faceless man, and I doubt you would fight a horde of it. So we may be dealing with an unknown Pokémon. Some people are even associating the faceless men with the Strange Souvenir, which looks “like a head without defined facial traits”, but I don’t think a guardian Pokémon from an unknown region would suddenly pop up in hordes in Kalos just to stalk a man.

I was thinking, what if we don’t get “Z” before Generation 7, or not even have anything other than X and Y in Generation 6? Honestly, I believe the games will go like this:
    -X and Y
-Generation 7 (I’ll call A and B as placeholder names)
    -Kanto and/or Hoenn remakes
    -“Z”

You may think that it’s just silly to take missing pieces of the games and take them as hints to next game being already another Generation, but here’s the final part that justifies my belief in A and B: the Strange Souvenir.
We know the tourist who gives it is from a region that is none of the six main regions, and I doubt Game Freak would do anything with the spinoff regions (they don’t even make the spinoff games).
Why would they give us an item relating to A/B if it wasn’t the next game? And, even stranger, why would an item related to G7 be a held item instead of a key item? The unreleased Lock Capsule that gave a TM in B/W was only a key item and was only programmed in HGSS, not the rest of G4, so why would they make it different now?
Then there’s the Kalos guidebook, which says that there are 14 berries unobtainable in X/Y that you have to trade from other regions. As we know, you can’t deposit Pokémon holding items in the Pokémon Bank, meaning it can’t be referring to previous Gens. So, basically, this seems to imply that Generations 6 and 7 will be compatible in a similar way to G1 and G2, meaning you are supposed to give the Strange Souvenir to a Pokémon and transfer it to A and B, where it’ll activate an event.

Regarding Hoenn. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those people who have been asking for Hoenn remakes and scrapping the bottom of the barrel with unexisting hints like “N has green hair like Wally and his name sounds like Hoenn. HOENN CONFIRMED!”. I have always seen both reasons to have and to not have Hoenn remakes, the reason for having was that Hoenn is the only region we never saw in 3D graphics, and the reason for not having it was because it would screw the timeline thing (G1 and G3 are chronologically simutaneous, same with G2 and G4), assuming the timeline is not a misinterpretation. In fact, the timeline is the reson I didn’t want Hoenn remakes.
However, there are some things to consider. First, GBA’s are no longer made, and you can’t play GBA games in the 3DS, meaning that G3 is mostly unplayable nowadays. It seems to me that GF wants to have every Pokémon game being playable, and I think they made HGSS because GSC cards were dying due to their batteries drying faster.
Furthermore, look at the trademarked names I mentioned. They imply that Mega Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza, as well as Sceptile, are at least planned to exist, since they were in the same trademark batch as almost every Pokémon that received Megas. And if they planned those Megas together with the rest, why not release them together with the other Megas in X/Y, as were the event-only Megas? Simple, Mega Weather trio would be good cover mascots for Hoenn remakes, and, of course, if they made such games, they would obviously need to give Megas to the other two Starters, and we can see a trademark that implies the existence of a Mega Sceptile.
Furthermore, except for Jynx, every other Pokémon that was trademarked together with the Mega Evolvable ones is from Hoenn, including Plusle and Minun, the Pika clones that introduced double battles, and Kecleon, the Hoenn Pokémon that had an early debut in the anime together with Blaziken. These are the reasons I think we may have Hoenn remakes.
(Added after Brigette’s appearance was announced): Also, as announced recently, Brigette will be controlling the PokéBank system. It doesn’t necessarily mean they are hinting at Hoenn remakes, as it could just be a throwback to Box, but still looks suspicious.

Now, for Kanto remakes. Just like Hoenn, FRLG is unplayable in the 3DS. Furthermore, someone said that Kanto seems to be more important to GF than Hoenn, and would probably take priority in the remake list, thus the reason I used “and/or” before. Out of all Pokémon with implied Megas, we also have Jynx. Sure, this may not mean anything, as Jynx is controversial and they could have simply hesitated to program it.
However, a more valid reason I have, is that Masuda said the games have to do with axes. The axes are all connected by the origin. Now think about it, didn’t they just release Origin? Isn’t it a bit suspicious that they would release something with that name in the Generation themed after dimensional axes? This isn’t even an anniversary celebration, so wouldn’t it make more sense for an anime special homaging G1 to be released during one? And even if you say that Origin was just an excuse to introduce a Mega, there would be other ways to do this.
(Everything from here on was written after PokéBeach’s reveal)
Furthermore, X/Y talks all the time about reflections and how mirrors could be doors to another world. If you think about it, the negative side of an axis mirrors the positive side, and to go from one side to the other, you have to go through the origin, which makes me think GF might want to have us play the original region again.

It should also be noted that the Kalos guidebook, when referring to berries you have to trade, said you have to trade from other regions. Not region, regions, as in plural, more than one. If this was a translationfrom of a Japanese book, I could doubt it to have any meaning, as plurals do not exist in Japanese, and we could say it’s a mistranslation. However, this came from an official English publication, which probably knows their stuff, and the publishers likely received info from GF/Nintendo themselves about this. Therefore, the idea of more than one region being compatible with Kalos seems to officially supported. Sure, it doesn’t neccessarily mean remakes, but I think remakes of older games are more likely than Generation VIII (I mean, just imagine all the rush, making three Generations for the same console).

Now for the final part of my theory “Z”. I’m not claiming we’ll get only one version, but “Z” is the placeholder name everyone has been using (and some even claiming “this will be the title” despite there being no Pokémon Gray), so…
Well, we may or may not have another Kalos game besides XY. I think we will, and I suspect some of the mysteries of Kalos are related G7 Pokémon, like the faceless men and the power plants (specially the eolic power plant, the most suspicious of all due to the fact it doesn’t even have a painting). In other words, I think there may be G7 Pokémon that can only be caught in Kalos.
But why place Z at the end of the list when we could get it before any remake? Because, like I said in the Kanto theory part, you have to go through the origin to get to the other side, and if you want to go from X or Y to Z, you must pass through the origin, which makes me think they would release “Origin Red” and “Origin Green” before any other Kalos game.
Now for the title. Most people are claiming the third game will be named Z, while some people are saying we’ll get sequels named X 2 and Y 2 or XZ and YZ. One possibility I thought, due to the mirror and origin thing, is that we could get -X and -Y or OX and OY, rather than a third version, but I don’t think this is what will happen, as Masuda said the games are about different views of the world, which meet at a single point (I don’t remember the exact wording, but he explicitly mentioned “meeting at one point”), thus, we’ll likely get a third version, where the plots of X and meet.
So, will the game be named Pokémon Z? Most people are claiming it will be, and that it is obvious because Zygarde’s name starts with “Z”. I disagree for two reasons: First, the name is too obvious, therefore it won’t be picked. Second, X and Y don’t meet at Z, but at the origin. But then, how would you relate Zygarde’s name to it. Well, X, Y, and Z are connected by the origin, and the origin is a point composed of zeros. Also, the word “zero” starts with “Z”. Therefore, my theory is, the third version will be named Pokémon Zero.

    What do you think?
