Recently, the comment section has been engaging in discussion of a PJN tournament, where we go all out and fight for #1, whether it be with the best Pokémon or with your favorites. As such, the staff chat has been bustling with discussion over it, with all of us bouncing and throwing ideas out at each other. The idea of a PJN tournament is definitely not a new one, but with the advent of Super Training, and other advances in the way you raise Pokemon (special thanks to Destiny Knot!), we think that this is the perfect time for us to see who really has the best battling skills in our community
Right now, details are still in the works but we hope to share more information with you soon. However, we would like to share a few anticipated questions, for better discussion in the comments.
When will this be held?
We don’t have an exact date. Expect it to be around the holiday season this year though.
Is this a Competitive-centric tournament?
Yes. With Super Training, we believe that even those who have no idea how to EV train the old-fashion way can still participate, and we see no reason as to splitting tiers and such. We understand some readers would like us to host this tournament using online Battle Simulators, at this point we will use only Pokémon X & Pokémon Y. It is possible we will allow the use of online battle simulators in future tournaments.
What are the Tournament Rules/Banned Pokemon and moves/Clauses/Tiers?
We’re still throwing ideas around at this point. Most of the staff are pushing for just the standard flat rules and clauses present in the game, with a hope of maybe doing 4 on 4 doubles and not 6 on 6/ 3 on 3 singles. Discussion would be widely appreciated regarding this.
Will there be any prizes for the winners?
Again, in the works. We would like to hear what you guys would like for a prize 🙂

The sooner more of your express your interest in participation in this tournament the sooner sign-ups will be opened and we can begin sorting battle arrangements. The only problem with the mareep is that the one stat that isn’t perfect is Sp. Atck, and the bagon’s nature is jolly, I’ll give you whichever you want 🙂

one with ampharosite might want to be paired with a trick roomer. If not, Agility TBolt, Dragon Pulse, Protect

yes, unova had an epic gym leader theme. I really liked clay, and I also really like how the gym leaders had some real development, you didn’t see a lot of that in x and y. but I did dislike them “interrupting” unovas awesome song with the “You’re winning the battle” song
For me, the “You’re winning the battle” song made all of the unova gym leaders memorable
I wish they kept that song.
One more reason why i think X and Y soundtrack is not very good
I really dislike the gym theme this generation. its very mellow for such an important battle.
The same thing happened with the champion theme
that one I didn’t mind. I felt that the heavy beats combined with the ringing of the bells was very fitting for such an beautiful champion. the bells match the beauty, the beats and symbol crashes match the “intensity” of the battle (if only my vivillon didn’t sweep her it woulda been more intense)
The only songs I liked were Lysandre’s, cycling, Jubilife remix, Snowbelle, Rival competitve encounter, and Diantha’s.
The only battle theme i liked was lysandre’s theme, route 15 theme and the Xerneas battle theme

My favorite gym leader, it’s a tie between Brock and Clay
Brock he just cares so much for his Pokemon and Clay is a strong battler
I did love brocks compassion, I wished they emphasized that more in the game. you see a lot of it in the anime, I wonder if its in “origins”? clay is one of my favorites too.

I would have to say Koga not because he is a ninja, as I don’t look nothing like a ninja. But more because of his battle strategies, it is very much akin to how I battle competititvely.
My favorite quote and very representative of how I battle:

this, right here. not many gym leaders (aside from maybe Lenora’s retaliate “strategy” If you even count that…) even use strategy! as a gym leader and an e4, koga concentrated sleep poison and confusion techniques on you! he even used spikes and sandstorm if I remember correctly! (he had a forretress in the e4, right?)
Yes! I don’t use confusion as much, but I use burn a lot!
burn is one of my favorites, halving attack power is just awesome. paralyze is my all time favorite, mostly because if thunderwave, its such an easy way to nullify pretty much any sweeper. Prankster helps a lot, as sableye can learn will-o-wisp and klefki can use thunderwave.

whimsicott is awesome. I had one last gen that had leechseed, toxic, protect, and substitute (beware of taunt) and after you get a toxic on, your whimsicott pretty much automatically wins the fight, assuming its not OHKO. and now it resists fighting dark, immune to dragon, and loses its bug weakness? yes please!

I think Mega Evolutions should be banned in the tournament because of how easily a person can be beaten by a Mega Pokemon like Mega Charizard(X/Y). It would make things a lot fair in my opinion.

I’ve defeat ones as well, but they are quite a threat if not handled correctly.
I have a hard counter to M. Mawile that resists both Play Rough and Iron Head and doesn’t care if it uses swords dance or Sucker Punch
I don’t want to deal with Mawiles but then i’ll be crippled without my Garchomp
I rushed through garchomp too. 🙁 I rushed through all my favs so I’ll have to make them again. I’d lost without my charizard (Y). I don’t know why, but the ones I used on my journey are better in comp. battling then the ones I specifically trained. that’s probably cuz the IVS. I was so lazy and I paid the price.
