PokéJungle Tournament Discussion

Recently, the comment section has been engaging in discussion of a PJN tournament, where we go all out and fight for #1, whether it be with the best Pokémon or with your favorites. As such, the staff chat has been bustling with discussion over it, with all of us bouncing and throwing ideas out at each other. The idea of a PJN tournament is definitely not a new one, but with the advent of Super Training, and other advances in the way you raise Pokemon (special thanks to Destiny Knot!), we think that this is the perfect time for us to see who really has the best battling skills in our community

Right now, details are  still in the works but we hope to share more information with you soon. However, we would like to  share a few anticipated questions, for better discussion in the comments.

When will this be held?
We don’t have an exact date.  Expect it to be around the holiday season this year though.

Is this a Competitive-centric tournament?
Yes. With Super Training, we believe that even those who have no idea how to EV train the old-fashion way can still participate, and we see no reason as to splitting tiers and such. We understand some readers would like us to host this tournament using online Battle Simulators, at this point we will use only Pokémon X & Pokémon Y. It is possible we will allow the use of online battle simulators in future tournaments.

What are the Tournament Rules/Banned Pokemon and moves/Clauses/Tiers?
We’re still throwing ideas around at this point. Most of the staff are pushing for just the standard flat rules and clauses present in the game, with a hope of maybe doing 4 on 4 doubles and not 6 on 6/ 3 on 3 singles. Discussion would be widely appreciated regarding this.

Will there be any prizes for the winners?
Again, in the works. We  would like to hear what you guys would like for a prize 🙂

How can I help out?
Tell your friends and share your ideas or concerns in the comments!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s safe to let the comments begin. Input on anything regarding this tournament is welcome and very appreciated, we all look forward to reading them! 🙂

Note from moving: Some of you may have been involved in the initial discussion with me about this a few days back, that small chat was what has kickstarted this into action. The sooner more of your express your interest in participation in this tournament the sooner sign-ups will be opened and we can begin sorting battle arrangements. Ideally we would open sign-ups this coming weekend and begin formatting early next week.

  1. I have one question, how will you connect with the other tournament player if you have maxed out your friend list and they aren’t on it?

  2. This sounds nice, now if only i had more time to super train. Also, I was thinking about HA Gogoat. Grass pelt raises Def in Grassy Terrain, which restores the HP of grass Pokes, and the fact that Gogoat gets leech seed, can hold leftovers, and gets Horn Leech. Might not be too good, as it requires Grassy Terrain support, but I think it could work. Issue is, with all of these Noiverns running around with Flamethrower, i was thinking about using quick claw over leftovers. What do you think?

  3. Also, has anyone obtained all three birds yet? I know it’s a big stretch, but has anyone tried taking all three birds to sea spirit’s den to see if lugia’s there. I doubt it, but it would be cool if it was.

  4. I would definitely participate, sounds fun! I would like it if you all did singles rather than doubles though, but if the battle style is chosen ahead of time, I guess I could adjust my team for doubles

  5. If I had 1 pokédollar for every off topic comment we’ve made ever, I’d be able to buy multiple bikes from the Kanto bike store.

    • Unless the topic is interesting that we would be able to talk about it for so long. I doubt we could be able to stay on topic for so long. It’s impossible unless you want like 60 comments and no discussion which is one of the main points of this website/Disqus.

  6. Prizes: I may be able to donate shinies to the winner(s) if moving and NLque and whoever else are fine with that. Although they may be near and dear to my heart, so is my PJN family, even more near and dear.
When should it be held: In my honest opinion, before 2014. I’d like it to be more towards this month, but it’s all up to what the majority wants. If they say otherwise, my voice will not be heard, anyways.
Rules: I don’t know who will agree, but I’m leaning towards no Legendaries and maybe even no Megas, JUST MAYBE. I want to lean more towards single battles due to the easier format, but again, it’s also up to the majority. I’d like a game where we can use any Pokemon, but for people to spam the use of Xerneas/Yveltal, Zoroark, Zygarde and any other stuff they find can get annoying.
Note from Dicie: I will be attending a program at my school for about an hour and I am currently in progress with homework. This may be my last post for the Dae, but I will be back tomorrow afternoon with full-on conversation. 😀

  7. Am I the only person who is kind of excited for the “simplistic ” pokemon of the 7th gen? Becuase I’M betting that the animal-like standalones (like girafarig) might get new evolutions!
