PokéJungle Tournament Discussion

Recently, the comment section has been engaging in discussion of a PJN tournament, where we go all out and fight for #1, whether it be with the best Pokémon or with your favorites. As such, the staff chat has been bustling with discussion over it, with all of us bouncing and throwing ideas out at each other. The idea of a PJN tournament is definitely not a new one, but with the advent of Super Training, and other advances in the way you raise Pokemon (special thanks to Destiny Knot!), we think that this is the perfect time for us to see who really has the best battling skills in our community

Right now, details are  still in the works but we hope to share more information with you soon. However, we would like to  share a few anticipated questions, for better discussion in the comments.

When will this be held?
We don’t have an exact date.  Expect it to be around the holiday season this year though.

Is this a Competitive-centric tournament?
Yes. With Super Training, we believe that even those who have no idea how to EV train the old-fashion way can still participate, and we see no reason as to splitting tiers and such. We understand some readers would like us to host this tournament using online Battle Simulators, at this point we will use only Pokémon X & Pokémon Y. It is possible we will allow the use of online battle simulators in future tournaments.

What are the Tournament Rules/Banned Pokemon and moves/Clauses/Tiers?
We’re still throwing ideas around at this point. Most of the staff are pushing for just the standard flat rules and clauses present in the game, with a hope of maybe doing 4 on 4 doubles and not 6 on 6/ 3 on 3 singles. Discussion would be widely appreciated regarding this.

Will there be any prizes for the winners?
Again, in the works. We  would like to hear what you guys would like for a prize 🙂

How can I help out?
Tell your friends and share your ideas or concerns in the comments!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s safe to let the comments begin. Input on anything regarding this tournament is welcome and very appreciated, we all look forward to reading them! 🙂

Note from moving: Some of you may have been involved in the initial discussion with me about this a few days back, that small chat was what has kickstarted this into action. The sooner more of your express your interest in participation in this tournament the sooner sign-ups will be opened and we can begin sorting battle arrangements. Ideally we would open sign-ups this coming weekend and begin formatting early next week.

  1. @regi, I watched your battle! That was amazing! Getting off the Spikes in the end proved CRUCIAL to take out that Mamoswine. Otherwise it’s game over with Ice Shard. I’m also assuming your Flygon is choice scarfed?

    • Yeah…I knew from the very beginning of the match that Flygon was my trump card because it’s immune to spikes toxic spikes and takes nothing from stealth rock and I had no spinner! 😀 Also I did luck out a bit on M. Charizard Y, but I took advantage of that opportunity 😀

          • Not many xD But I did outpredict you at one point. It was when you had Flygon out, and used Earthquake, but he switched out to Hydreigon. I was predicting that and would’ve used Dragon Claw. I felt so special xD

          • Or was it Hydreigon? Or did he switch to Klefki? I think that was another instance, and the switch to Klefki forced you to switch Flygon out.

          • Yeah That was a flop on my part xD. The first time I just wanted to use earthquake to see what he would switch to. The 2nd time I thought that my opponent would out smart me by thinking I would use u-turn and would keep ninetales in….so I went for EQ a 2nd time….but he did the same thing again so that caught me off guard! xD

          • I’m at school and just got my Gible!!! Why do I keep breeding the perfect ones on the way to school/at school :S
I have a question, what item do you think his Hydreigon was holding?

          • I believe choice specs or scarf. Anything with u-turn typically has choice items…you can see why as you will always be in a situation where you can switch to something that threatens your opponent!

          • Yeah doesn’t matter if the opponent switches as you will always have the “momentum” (i.e have a pokemon that threaten’s your opponent). It’s a great scouting technique to see what your opponent has with no risk!

  2. I constantly wonder if Megas will be banned. Most of them, like Ampharos, Blaziken, Garchomp, and Mewtwo, I see getting banned because of their incredibly high stats. But not others like Mawile and Absol because they definitely needed them.

  3. Regarding singles/doubles(or triples/rotation for that matter), we’ll have a poll up later today so we can see exactly what everyone wants.

  4. I’d suggest using the ban list from the ranked battles. I don’t want to be facing a million Mega Mewtwos, thank you very much.

  5. In 8 months, we’re going to get “leakers” who will “leak” information about the next games. Don’t believe him or her! He or she will be lying, unless it’s WPM.

  6. Single battle 6vs6. Also it would be cool if we were put into pools and had a round robin. Then the top people(s) form each pool advanced into single knockout bracket, then from top four and up the people had best two of three.
