PokéJungle Tournament Discussion

Recently, the comment section has been engaging in discussion of a PJN tournament, where we go all out and fight for #1, whether it be with the best Pokémon or with your favorites. As such, the staff chat has been bustling with discussion over it, with all of us bouncing and throwing ideas out at each other. The idea of a PJN tournament is definitely not a new one, but with the advent of Super Training, and other advances in the way you raise Pokemon (special thanks to Destiny Knot!), we think that this is the perfect time for us to see who really has the best battling skills in our community

Right now, details are  still in the works but we hope to share more information with you soon. However, we would like to  share a few anticipated questions, for better discussion in the comments.

When will this be held?
We don’t have an exact date.  Expect it to be around the holiday season this year though.

Is this a Competitive-centric tournament?
Yes. With Super Training, we believe that even those who have no idea how to EV train the old-fashion way can still participate, and we see no reason as to splitting tiers and such. We understand some readers would like us to host this tournament using online Battle Simulators, at this point we will use only Pokémon X & Pokémon Y. It is possible we will allow the use of online battle simulators in future tournaments.

What are the Tournament Rules/Banned Pokemon and moves/Clauses/Tiers?
We’re still throwing ideas around at this point. Most of the staff are pushing for just the standard flat rules and clauses present in the game, with a hope of maybe doing 4 on 4 doubles and not 6 on 6/ 3 on 3 singles. Discussion would be widely appreciated regarding this.

Will there be any prizes for the winners?
Again, in the works. We  would like to hear what you guys would like for a prize 🙂

How can I help out?
Tell your friends and share your ideas or concerns in the comments!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s safe to let the comments begin. Input on anything regarding this tournament is welcome and very appreciated, we all look forward to reading them! 🙂

Note from moving: Some of you may have been involved in the initial discussion with me about this a few days back, that small chat was what has kickstarted this into action. The sooner more of your express your interest in participation in this tournament the sooner sign-ups will be opened and we can begin sorting battle arrangements. Ideally we would open sign-ups this coming weekend and begin formatting early next week.

  1. I don’t do EV training but I do Super Training. Maybe I have a chance in this tournament. But if its in the holiday season, I may still have not finished the game. My Pokémon could be like level 50. I don’t know. Will there be another tournament in the future, after this? I’ll still go for this though, if its during my holidays and I don’t go on vacation to a place with no internet.

      • Well, not really. Super Training is just punching a bunch of bags and getting your EV’s raised for each stat. EV training is a lot more complicated than that, right? There’s a reason why I don’t do it. I just don’t get it

        • Not really. They both do the same basic thing. You just get experience battling and training. Super training is a more simplified form of it.

        • You get EV point when you kill a Pokemon, you get EV point when you punch a bag. So basically they’re same, you get EV point when you beat the crap out of something.

  2. If that’s the case I need to get moving on this breeding. Does anyone have a ditto that is superior in speed and defense I can borrow?

  3. Well, good night, fellow Junglers. I can’t look at the computer screen anymore without my eyes burning.
This is Commander A.Cheez, signing out. Peace!

  4. Argh. I have little to no experience in double battles… Well, time to get a new team together! Too bad Boomburst will hurt my teammates…

  5. Wait so singles or doubles?? That could be a good site poll question. I’m all for singles personally. And I like that there won’t be any tiers. Makes it so that we get to face tons of different Pokémon and strategies, not just OU teams.

  6. Suddenly I wish I had my White 2 on me… I want to be able to see how my old team is looking. I do not even remember what I had… ;__;

  7. I really like this idea. I’m all for the 6 on 6 singles or doubles. I hope you include the clauses, but I don’t think any Pokemon should be banned. Even though Speed Boost Blaziken, Mega Mewtwo, etc. can be a drag, I think people will have enough time to build a team that they feel can counter anything, even those. Let’s make it happen!

  8. Alright! Regardless of what format the tournament will be I have decided on making a doubles team! It’s time to retire from 5 generations of single battles! I have two awesome pokemon in mind! ^_^

  9. So, as far as tournament style, one loss and your out? Or best two out of three? If it’s one and done, we should do a large scale bracket that’s updated as the tournament goes on (similar to the Friend Safari doc). Also when we register we should register our Pokémon team we will be using. That way you stick with one team and don’t switch members throughout the tournament. It would also be cool if everyone got a battle video of each round. That way anyone can observe the tournament and the players still in the tournament can watch the battles and figure out a strategy if they are up against the winner in the next round.
