We’re just days away from 2018 which happens to be a “Year of the Dog” according to the Chinese Zodiac. In Japan, the country of origin for the Pokémon series, there are reminders everywhere as New Years draws near. There are also plenty of dog-like Pokémon now in the series, so many so that it might be hard to just pick one favorite but today we challenge you to do just that! What is your favorite dog (or dog-like) Pokémon?!

  5. Can someone explain to me why in the world people would want a main series game that features the player characters being an already established characters like Lillie or Gladion? The purpose of the pcs in Pokemon are that they are blank slates that anyone can push their own personas onto. If you play as Lillie for instance you’re playing as a character that already has a a personality and a specific name. Even lets say if you get customization back. Suddenly having the ability to change not only the name of her and her look would make being her in the first place useless. Why even bother at that point? Some rpgs are meant to be where you play as a specific person like FF. It’s meant to be that way for a reason as you are playing a story revolving around that person. In Pokemon the story is supposed to revolve around YOU as a person. Why would you want to go on a Pokemon journey that’s for someone else? I just don’t understand……Having characters return in a support role is one thing. PLAYING as those characters is dumb.

    • Not really? If it can be used to tell a better narrative, go for it. It’s just that it’ll restrict other aspects of the game. The reason than Unova and Alola had great narratives compared to the rest of the series was because whilst it was still your journey, it’s N or Lillie’s story.

      • It’s not N’s story in black and white at all. You as a player serve as the antithesis of N. he wants Pokémon to be freed but you as a player want to catch and battle Pokémon because that’s why you play Pokémon.

        • N develops. You don’t. Bianca and Cheren develop. You don’t.

          Although you’re the hero of the story, it’s those characters who develop and form a proper narrative.

            Because everyone has differing opinions, and it relies on the input of someone outwith the game, it’s not that strong of a narrative because it simultaneously tries to be a self insert narrative and an established narrative. Because of this, and the fact there’s already opposition for N to play off of, your character is really more of a catalyst in a chemical reaction than anything.

          • No because if you play Pokémon, you’re playing it to battle and catch Pokémon BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT.

            If you didn’t want to do that you would be playing some other RPG.

            People may agree with N in terms of the treatment of Pokemon in other ways, for example forcefully liberating them from bad trainers or they enter the game with a different opinion and then either agree with N or see parts of his point. For Black and White, it isn’t that black or white.

            BW has a good narrative… For a Pokemon game. There’s games out there that are considered the weakest of their series that have a better narrative.

      • My concern is that Ikue Otani is among them on the list, which means Pikachu could be a Starter, lending credibility to the deleted Kanto Remake Tieba leak. I DO NOT want a Kanto Remake for the Switch! Anyways, I contacted PokeSirena to see if she heard anything about this. Waiting for a response back. It could just be that “Mario” on Disquis is being saracastic for all we know.

        • Yeah I figured it was probably made up. I haven’t heard anything from the people I’ve been following either. The only thing I’ve heard is that the human characters may possibly have an AC style VA, but who knows what this point.

      • I know. That’s what worries me. It was on the previous article’s comments section about the rumors. Someone under the Disquis name of “Mario” said it. I wrote to PokeSirena about this and got a response from her. She said that she hadn’t heard anything. So it’s likely Mario is just making it up to be funny. I asked Mario where he heard it and if he had a link to the source. I doubt I’ll get a response back. His comment was posted over 11 hours ago.

  9. So just jumping off of the supposed VA for the gen 8 starters being recorded. What recording really? The only Pokemon to date that actually needs recording is Pikachu. Unless they’re switching all the Pokemon over to saying their names.

  14. Tbh I hope for a pokemon game in the future where you can kinda establish yourself as a character. Even just a little. Would be kinda interesting I think, I’d like to see how GF would handle that

    Honestly. So many killer titles. Even among all the lootbox garbage we’ve gotten some absolute masterpieces

    I have two more games so gotta complete (Hollowknight and Persona 5) and then I’ll make my huge essay about all the games I played this year and my thoughts including my top 5

  23. How do the chinese leakers have info on the gameplay though? didnt they have info on the script? you are telling me they know about the battle system from a script of the game?

    • The Chinese leakers that were mentioning the scripts and translations weren’t where the battle changes came from. Right now the rumors are coming from a few different sources. All of them have at least some merits, but of course take with a grain of salt.

        • Hmmmm not sure actually. They may have known about RR, but they’re not the ones that people would say are famous for leaking it. The battle system rumor comes from a couple of different sources on Twitter. I couldn’t link you to them so sorry about that. Either way they seem to have at least some knowledge or connections. It’s just whether the info they were told is actually true/used in the gen 8 games. Either way from what I’ve seen they’re very sincere and don’t have a history of being trolls. They of course tell people to be careful of what to believe and to be cautious, but ultimately at this point I don’t see any reason to not believe them. As far as I know the RR leaker is Chinese and hasn’t explicitly said anything about it, but to be honest at this point there’s a lot of sources saying stuff and while many of them SEEM somewhat believable it’s hard to keep track of exactly where certain things came from right off the top of my head.         • RR was leaked on a Chinese forum and then (roughly) translated and shared on 4chan. So yes its from the same source i think

    • No one knows where they got it from, but it were Chinese people who leaked the Alolan starters last year as well so they do have some credibility.

      • You talking about the actual leakers of the starter image or the guy on Twitter that translated it ? (don’t want to use his name as I don’t want him getting too swarmed by people, privacy and all) If you’re talking about him then he’s not Chinese at all. He lives in Japan and from the one video on his non active YT channel I heard his voice he sounds very black. I could be wrong tho lol
