Gen III Coming to Pokémon GO This Week!

Pokémon GO, the augmented-reality game for iOS and Android by developer Niantic, is about to get a lot more exciting this week with the release of 50 Pokémon and weather coniditons – both which originally appeared in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire!

“Starting later this week, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, and several more Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region in the Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire video games will start appearing in Pokémon GO for the first time ever—with even more to be discovered over the next several weeks! We’ll also be introducing a new dynamic weather system in Pokémon GO that will change the way you and the millions of Trainers around the world discover, catch, and interact with Pokémon.

You’ll want to start paying even closer attention to your local weather patterns, Trainers. In addition to the in-game map being updated with cool new weather visuals, weather near you will impact Pokémon in a variety of ways. For example, you’ll find your odds of discovering Mudkip splashing around will greatly improve on rainy days, as certain Pokémon types will be more commonly found during various weather conditions. Additionally, attacks of certain types will be more effective during some weather conditions, so a Charizard’s Fire Spin will perform better on sunny days, for example. Rain or shine, winter or spring, your gameplay experience will remain fresh, making your time outdoors even more exciting.”

The weather conditions in Pokémon GO come with following effects:

  • Sunny (default) – Grass, Ground, & Fire-types get increased damage and spawn rates
  • Rainy – Water, Electric, & Bug-types get increased damage and spawn rates
  • Snowy – Ice & Steel-types get increased damage and spawn rates
  • Foggy – Ghost & Dark-types get increased damage and spawn rates
  • Windy – Dragon, Flying, & Psychic-types get increased damage and spawn rates

In addition to the Gen III excitement, Ho-Oh’s reign as a Legendary Raid Boss has been extended an extra 48 hours and will now be available until December 14th, 1pm PST!

What Gen III buddy are you hoping to catch? For me it’s gotta be SEEDOT!

  1. The way and time that Niantic implemented these weather conditions are pretty genius. They recognized that in the fall/winter months it get can hella cold in some areas which turns players off from getting outside to catch Pokémon – they’ve essentially flipped the problem on its head and now made inclement weather an incentive to get out there and GO.
    Slay me, Niantic.

  2. I like the concept of weather but realistically I’m not going out to catch Pokemon if it’s anything other than default sunny.

  4. So seeing as this may have been an unexpected announcement and there is supposed to be daily articles this month, has the article for today and are we getting two articles today or another day, or are the higher-ups able to breathe a sigh of relief due to this early Christmas present that comes in the form of a break?

      • A guy who leaked some XY stuff back in the day, tweeted pictures of a Racoon, a Goat and a Wolf, probably gen 8 starters.
Also, I (and some other people) assume that means the gen 8 region is Canada based, because we know the Goat is the Fire stater (it’s on the Fire zodiac), Racoon makes much more sense for a Grass starter and that means the Wolf would be the Water Starter. And actually there is a rare species of Swimming Sea Wolves in Canada, as well as Racoons and Goats being common animals there. Plus a long time ago on Canada grounds people believed in half Wolves half Orcas and that could be the basis for the Water Starter’s final evo.

  5. Why would psychic types get buffs in windy weather? I would imagine the wind would distract them and make them fight worse

  6. Ok my U. Necrozma battle was significantly easier than last time

Snowslash survived Power Gem and landed 3 Icy Spears,

    Muk’s Crunch poisoned it

And Lycanroc finished it off with Splintered Stormshards howling like a maniac

    • Yet, this only half my brings up my mood as I am super sad today

Most likely failed my big math test (I already have a mid C in the class), lost the ability to gain extra credit in Chem. Because of my teacher saying if on the next 4 quizzes we get 100% we get extra credit (I was off by one point), had a history test, have an animation due in a few days that is hardly done, my free period I need to finish a damn lab, can’t go to animation club next week due to Chorus rehersal, oh and must read all of chapter 3 of Gatsby by morning (thus is the least of my concerns)
