Pokémon GO Travel Event + Pokémon Bank Update

Niantic has officially announced the Pokémon GO Travel event!

From now until to November 26th, trainers across the globe must work toward the goal of collectively catching 3 billion Pokémon in Pokémon GO! As the week progresses, and more ‘mons are caught, rewards will start to roll out: At 500 million Pokémon caught we’ll get 2x Experience, 6 hour Lure Modules and an increase of worldwide spawns. At 1.5 billion, we’ll get the previosuly mentioned bonuses plus 2x Stardust and even more increased spawns. And if we reach our goal of 3 billion we’ll get all the aforementioned rewards plus Farfetch’d will spawn worldwide for 48 hours (Kangaskhan will spawn in East Asia as compensation)!

If the below infographic isn’t your style you can check out the fun video Niantic put together for the event, or read their official blog post.

In main game news, (much to our surprise) Pokémon Bank is already compatible with Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon! Requiring 516 block, version 1.4 of the application is now available for download via the eShop. Along this, compatibility for transfers from Pokémon Gold & Silver can now be made in Poké Transporter.

What will be the first Pokémon your transfer to your new Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon games? Excited to finally add Farfetch’d to your Pokédex in GO?

  1. I hope in gen 8 there’s another volcano area. I’f love to be able to properly explore a volcano in the Pokemon world. I know we won’t get anything like BOTW, but it’d be pretty cool to go into a volcano in some way to hunt for Pokemon. If they continue using ride Pokemon (in some way anyway. they may change the name) I could see a ride Pokemon that would allow us to go in there. It would give us a change of clothes specific to the volcano so it makes sense as to why a person could go in there and not die immediately haha

  4. Are the Tapus supposed to be easy to be caught in Pokemon USUM? I caught both Lele and Fini with quick balls on the first try. Does the Pokemon’s level you’re using affect it or is it just chance?

  5. Topic: What are some Pokemon that you think have strangely drastic evolutions and do you like them?
-Wartortle to Blastoise: It’s weird. A whispy turtle with a sick tail turns into a mobile army tank? I like it, but compared to Charizard and Venusaur, which feel more natural, it’s almost like they couldn’t think of a turtle evolution that was cool enough so they gave it cannons.

-Dragonair to Dragonite: One of the most classic pokemon, yet I can’t help but feel let down by it. I love the serpentine appearances of Dratini and Dragonair, but then Barney Dragonite just kind of ruins the party.

-Trumbeak to Toucannon: Okay, Trumbeak is ugly and Toucannon is cool. The skip in logic from woodpecker to Toucan is odd. I feel that they were designed by two different people. Toucannon is pretty simply a Toucan, but there are plenty of pokemon that are rather similar to their real-life counterparts. It just needed to be Steel/Flying :I

-Frogadier to Greninja: Oh, boy…I could talk about this all day. Greninja…sucks, imo. Frogadier follows on from Froakie with the smooth frog body and bubbly scarf. But then drunk uncle Greninja storms in with a tongue scarf and angular/polygonal head and is just off. I honestly hate it. Fan art is better. I may dislike Chesnaught and Delphox as well, but you really can’t slight them because they actually look like their prevos.

-Torracat to Incineroar: So I’m convinced that with starters they design the first and last stages first and then try to fill in the dots with the middle stages. Sometimes, they’re successful…others times…not so much. This isn’t the worst one, but Incineroar’s under armor gray chest that comes out of nowhere, not to mention bipedal stature (which isn’t surprising considering previous fire starters) look off. If you looked at Litten and Torracat you’d think it’d evolve into an intimidating tiger that stalks the jungle, not a wrestling creature. Which brings me to the wrestling aspect. It’s so weird. Usually something specific like that would be established very early on in an evolution stage. But this only really takes form with Incineroar. Even after all the hate I threw on Greninja, I can at least say the ninja aspect is present in all of their designs. But I can’t say the same here. Again, probably designed Incineroar first and worked backwards.

Carvahna to Sharpedo: These are two really cool pokemon that conceptually and design wise have no link. One is based on a savage river fish and the other is an ocean-dwelling apex predator combined with a torpedo/rocket.

Remoraid to Octillery: How could I not mention this one? Really the only link here is remoraid (gun) —> Octillery (Bazooka-type weapon). But couldn’t they have just made remoraid a gun-based baby octopus or some other type of gun thing? That said, still like Octillery a lot. I used one a long time ago in Gen 4 and it was pretty good in-game.

There are probably more I’m neglecting to mention, but this is all I’ve got right now.

    • Popplio – Brionne. Popplio straight up ditches his clowning around and becomes a pop star.

Cosmoem-Solgaleo – Solgaleo has barely if not any of that blue-dark purple nebula stuff so making it go from a cocoon looking like Lunala to a metal Pyroar was pretty drastic.

  6. BTW, what are everyone’s current teams? Here’s the one i had up until Pokemon league (I went for my lvl. 100 Pokemon from S/M afterwards for easier battling):

    Lvl. 69 Primarina – Aqua
    Lvl. 63 Magnezone – Pickle
    Lvl. 61 Salazzle – Allie
    Lvl 61 Zororak – Ninja
    Lvl 61 Vikavolt – Tick
    Lvl 60 Malamar – Squilvia

All but Salazzle were from Melemele Island, and I kept them and just used them only.

      • Nice, all G7 Pokemon! Although I haven’t really gotten as many G7 Pokemon here, it was mostly because I wanted to have an advantage. I knew that the final trial would be Mina, the Fairy, so I went for a Steel type, plus a Fire-Poison.

    • Lv. 60 Serperior – Lucius
      Lv. 59 Gardevoir – Kumatora
      Lv. 62 Feraligatr – Riptide
      Lv. 61 Noivern – Marceline
      Lv. 59 Lopunny – Cotton
      Lv. 62 Salazzle – Suzy

Using a team of my all stars :0 Poor Noivern hasn’t done much though :/

        • It was a tough choice between Primarina and Feraligatr. While Primarina is my second favorite pokemon, Feraligatr has always been an amazing team member each time I’ve used it

          • I understand, it’s like my team, after the Pokemon league, it was tough, but i decided for my Koko, christmas Bruxish, Primarina, Diancie, Porygon-Z and someone else, but I forgot. The reasons hy is that I realized EP. RR was going to be difficult so I just thought “instead of suffering myself, let’s just quickly breeze through!”. Good thing I did it as it was worth it.

        • I mostly focused on Popplio/Brionne/Primarina because honestly as long as I had the leader of the pack strong and ahead, the others would be safe and I’d also have a backup plan if there was a difficult Pokemon to take on.

  7. CRAZY THEORY TIME!!!!! So I’ve been thinking about this since last year. Nihilego’s world looked very familiar to me from the moment I saw it. It hit me not long ago that it’s reminiscent of Reflection Cave from XY. In the XY anime the mirrors in Reflection Cave end up sending Ash to an alternate world or reverse world. In SM/USUM we can travel back and forth between the regular world the main story takes place in and a reverse world where time is flipped. What if Reflection Cave is some how connected to Ultra Space and the alternate world Ash went to was the same reverse world that we can go to in Gen 7? Maybe the cave had some crazy thing happened that ended up having many of the crystals from Nihilego’s world pulled into the normal world and those mirrors are actually tiny Ultra Wormholes that open and close randomly. Thus why the cave is such a weird and fantastic looking area. END OF CRAZY THEORY

      • I mean I’m prolly wrong. The best case scenario is that they just look similar because it was the same person or persons that designed both areas. XP

        Reply
        • Yeah, plus, we saw in the anime the characters were different, whereas the reverse world of Alola has the exact characters and stuff, just opposite time of day.

          Reply
          • True, but to be fair it’s not like they were gonna change very much for the reverse world in gen 7. That’d take a whole lot of work and the only real reason for the reverse world is to give you Cosmog and give you a way to choose what time of day in game it is. If they went more in depth with it we may have seen significant changes, but oh well

          • I agree, although the only thing the reverse is useful is of getting certain itms required in certain times as well as to get a new Cosmog, it really should’ve gotten more stuff to do in.

          • Of course! Right after the League you are given a message saying “Thanks for playing, you have finished the game.” and are either brought right before the League or are denied from playing it ever again and losing your Pokemon forever and having all your progress be deleted. /s

  8. Wow I did it I beat Kahuna Hala

  9. When Playing a Pokemon Game for the first Time/Restart an old one, do you Try to Use pokemon you haven’t used before(bar starters) or do you have some you will always go for?

    Reply
    • Always try to use new mons. While playing with certain Pokemon is fun if I use the same ones more than once it makes the initial journey with said Pokemon feel cheap. I’d rather have one story per team. Now if it was a different form such as regional or something then I’d make the exception, but that’s different I guess

      Reply
    • Both!
I always like to mix things up and certain mons become more desirable over time but I still tend to use certain mons over like Feraligatr in Johto!

      Reply
    • A bit of both, as I did with USUM. I went with Popplio, knowing as generally most trials I can do at least fairly well with it, with the exceptions of Molayne, Mina and the grass trial, as well with Salazzle for the grass trial and fairy as it has a great typing, whereas I go for other different Pokemon for more convenience and to give me an advantage on other Pokemon trainers/kahunas, like Magnezone and Malamar.

    • In the first playthrough/first game in the generation I play with only Pokemon from that generation. In subsequent playthroughs/third versions I play with whatever strikes my fancy.

  11. Once thing I like about the pacing of gen 7 is that I feel like I got to spend a lot more time with the mid stage of my starter. Usually I feel like the mid stage is such an after thought and you’re so focused on getting the final it just flies by. In these games tho I feel like I had my Torracat (in Sun) and my now Dartrix (in Ultra Moon) for a decent amount of time. When I evolved my Torracat into Inciniroar it felt like the right time and it was not too long after getting to Ula’Ula. All that said it does cut down time with the first stages of the starters, but it’s nice change of pacing.
