Final Ultra Sun & Moon Trailer + REVIEW WRAP-UP

Well friends, the final chapter of our Alolan adventure is almost upon us and the final trailer before the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon has arrived.

The review embargo for the games has also been lifted, so here’s what official outlets are saying:

  • Nintendo Life 10/10 – “You’d be forgiven for not wanting to jump back into the same world again so soon but, in their own right, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are truly incredible entries to the series that deserve to be sitting amongst the elite Pokémon titles.”
  • GameReactor 9/10 – “The story is much more engaging this time around, there’s plenty of call-backs for long-time fans, and the title’s proceed to push the 3DS even further.”
  • Gamespot 8/10 – “Though they aren’t very different from their predecessors, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon make enough changes to stand apart as the definitive version of the seventh generation games.”
  • EGM 8/10 – “The definitive edition of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon encapsulate the elements of what made the first set of games great—and also carry forward some of the games’ flaws.”
  • TheSixthAxis 8/10 – “Plenty of new features and details will make fans of the franchise very happy and while I still mourn for the DexNav to this day, the new content is well worth becoming Alolan Champion once more.”
  • GameXplain ‘Liked-A-Lot’ – “They feel incredibly familiar to those who have traveled to Alola before”
  • Famitsu 36/40

  1. The only real thing I’m worried about with USUM is that there won’t be any trainers to re-battle like in Sun and Moon because I stopped playing Sun and Moon due to that fact. I’m not just grinding battles for hours and being bored just to complete the games, give me trainers where I actually have to use strategy and not feel like I’m wasting Pokemon that could be useful to me. Why they thought that was a good idea is beyond me, but, more than anything, I hope that’s something that they’ve fixed in USUM because I don’t want to have to just toss these games aside just like I did for Sun and Moon.

  2. Good Evening. This is Sunniera (Sunny). You may notice that I am going by Sunniera 2.0 now. Well long story made short. I had to get a new account because I found out the hard way that the quickest way to get banned from all Disqus based sites is by copy and pasting a spam bots comments in order to make a joke-thus having my account mistaken for that of a spam account. I would like to thank @spectralseraph:disqus and @disqus_B13dRd0KEP:disqus for lending their ear during this time and contacting a mod for me. However, I value commenting on this community in the future over the number of comments and upvotes I got on my last account. Thus, I decided to make a new account in order to get back in as quickly as possible. Please treat this account as any of you would have treated my previous one.

  3. Well this night turned ugly pretty quickly
My brother’s hyper-depressive/negligence to schoolwork state caused him to get one of the biggest chewing out i’ve ever eavesdropped on

now he got his laptop taken away which is pretty much the only thing he likes in the world, now he’s gonna be like even bigger mope not doing anything (seriously if that laptop is taken away he literally just sits in his room in darkness and silence)

    • They’re very good but what truly makes a game of the year
is it because the story and gameplay was so rich in detail and enchants the player with newfound senses of amazement

or a game that is charming, vivid, creative and extremely enjoyable to play

it really boils down to playing a game for its story or because its really fun to play

    • Breath of the Wild

It sure has its flaws I won’t deny it. Difficulty stagnates as you figure out how things work, dungeons are very short and limited, shrines can become a bore and Korok Seeds are filler there is no denying it.

And those are things that should be addressed moving forward but for what this game achieved it is just absolutely incredible. Just the sense of exploration you feel exploring Hyrule is a truly unique feeling. This is one of the best designed games Nintendo has ever made. It doesn’t hold your hand. The environment and mechanics lead you to figuring out how to survive on your own

It is such an important game for the medium. It’s quiet while still feeling grand. It’s relaxed while still being an adventure. Future developers will look at this game as devs today look at Ocarina. The game is an absolute triumph.

It’s an experience. The one where once you’re done with it you only wish you could forget everything about it so you can play through it and discover everything for the first time again. In a world where games seem to be little more than cynical cash grabs, BOTW reminded me that there are still creative people out there that want to create art. They want to create meaningful experiences with the player.

As amazing and impressive as Odyssey is, I don’t think it is an accomplishment in the same vain as Zelda. Odyssey may be the better game on a surface level, but Breath of the Wild is a better experience. Odyssey is very close to a perfect game while Breath of the Wild has its fair share of issues. But once again, Breath of the Wild is just an experience that everyone needs to have. It’s just incredible

    • I’ve played both significantly and the answer is Breath of the Wild. The scale of this game, along with the gameplay and polish, is just as close to perfect as you could get. Odyssey tries its best to establish that kind of scale, but does it within the confines of Mario. It’s an amazing game of course, but it can’t hold a candle to Breath of the Wild.

    • Odyssey for sure. I didn’t enjoy Breath of the Wild (not a huge Zelda fan), and while I appreciate the departure from the series tradition that BotW introduced, Odyssey still has that edge for me. Both are revolutionary in their own rights and are sure to be Switch classics, but I’m a Mario lover at heart.

    • I would have to go with BotW, but I haven’t played Odyssey. The thing about Mario though is that it’s just a fun game on the surface. The characters are never given any depth, which is something BotW actually set out to do with its characters. Even Link has some character to him. Yeah, I could definitely list a bunch of flaws of the game, but it’s also just a masterpiece and raised the bar for zelda and open world.

  4. Well I think I’ve managed to update my Pokeball collection list with new ‘dex, island scan and wormhole ‘mon. Though I’ll have to wait for the games to release to be sure. Ready to start collecting/trading these extra species.

  5. I think one day, they will put the tamagachi or whatever.. pokeball thing in our phones. That would be a great app to interact with your Pokemon. It would basically have Amie inside . I’d love that
