Final Ultra Sun & Moon Trailer + REVIEW WRAP-UP

Well friends, the final chapter of our Alolan adventure is almost upon us and the final trailer before the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon has arrived.

The review embargo for the games has also been lifted, so here’s what official outlets are saying:

  • Nintendo Life 10/10 – “You’d be forgiven for not wanting to jump back into the same world again so soon but, in their own right, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are truly incredible entries to the series that deserve to be sitting amongst the elite Pokémon titles.”
  • GameReactor 9/10 – “The story is much more engaging this time around, there’s plenty of call-backs for long-time fans, and the title’s proceed to push the 3DS even further.”
  • Gamespot 8/10 – “Though they aren’t very different from their predecessors, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon make enough changes to stand apart as the definitive version of the seventh generation games.”
  • EGM 8/10 – “The definitive edition of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon encapsulate the elements of what made the first set of games great—and also carry forward some of the games’ flaws.”
  • TheSixthAxis 8/10 – “Plenty of new features and details will make fans of the franchise very happy and while I still mourn for the DexNav to this day, the new content is well worth becoming Alolan Champion once more.”
  • GameXplain ‘Liked-A-Lot’ – “They feel incredibly familiar to those who have traveled to Alola before”
  • Famitsu 36/40

  2. I’m conflicted…..do I just get US or do I get the duel pack and get them both? On one hand I’m not sure I need both and may never play through UM if I get them both, but on the other hand they’re the last 3ds games ever so maybe I get the duel pack as a special goodbye? I just don’t know………

      • Ah but you forget….I’m a Pokemon whore. There really wasn’t much point in playing both X AND Y, but I did that anyway……

          • Ugh……….but I have the money!!! There are games that regardless of me buying both I’ll be getting no matter what so it’s hard for me……I’m just too much of a whore for Pokemon………XD

          • Gonna get that for Xmas. Already have Mario,Zelda, and Sonic Mania…………Hmmm trying to think of any other major games. I’ve got all the big Nintendo titles for over the summer (arms, Kart, Splatoon) Keep trying to talk me out of this tho. I know you’re right, but I have a baaaaaaaaad brain that makes me think I need things that I don’t hahaha

          • Stardew Valley if you think you’d be into it…

Uhhh, Rayman Legends I hear is good but I heard the Switch version has bad lag so you may wanna look into that

          • Already have SD for the Switch……..*sigh*….either way I think I’m cooling off of buying both……I thank you for your support in these trying times

  3. So Serebii already got his copy of Ultra Sun :0

Also I watched all of the first season of My Hero Academia yesterday, probably will start season 2 today (might even finish at this rate).

    • Season 2 is WAAAY better than season 1. As good as season 1 is season 2 takes things to a whole other level. I’m even excited FOR you! haha

Also yeah saw Joe has his copy already. Sounds like he’s gonna hold off on uploading info until the official release tho.

  4. So a big massive Amazon package came today.
I did order my US from Amazon.
I must admit I had a big smile on my face
“You know what Fed you gotta show this to the other junglers, getting US early”
And it turned out that it was an order that came for one of my siblings *facepalm*

  5. Move Tutors are available as soon as you get to them and have BP right? I think this could be quite beneficial. In previous games we’ve always had to wait until post game for the majority of tutors, which whilst good for competitive does mean some people probably won’t have bothered with them before.

    Reply
    • Isn’t the problem often them not being around until you beat the game? Not that you can get to them and they are just not available? I mean like in ORAS the tutors weren’t available until you got to the Battle Resort. Are the tutors found earlier in the game this time?

  6. ORAS was a game that managed to wrap everything I liked about third gen into a fancy bag before violently slapping me across the face and taunting me with said bag all while violently shoving shitt down my throat..

    Also it had dexnav

    Reply
  7. USUM is what Sun and moon should of been IMO
The only good thing about ORAS was Dexnav and soaring IMO
X/Y was just a tech demo made into a real game IMO

    Reply
    • I agree with all of this
USUM is without a doubt the best Pokemon game on the 3ds….. even though SuMo should have been USUM

      Reply
    • You also forgot the team leader remixes which were LITERALLY the one good remix in the game
And Mega altaria/gallade as a whole

      Reply
          • I hate to say this but their role in the later portion of the game isn’t very relevant either
But they still do have a bigger role than about half of gen 4’s cast

Also the most amazing line in the game is still there

  8. Sometimes I really go in on insulting Kanto and Johto for being full of flaws

Within a minute or two I remember Kalos exists and begin to thank the great Araquanid in the sky that Kanto and Johto aren’t that level

    Reply
      • Like… literally every one of these things.
The region is bland in 99% of the areas outside of like Anistar. Its story is barebones and the villian is literally ginger wolverine hitler. It’s not even remotely complex. There’s a total of one thing I like about X and Y (AZ) and it’s not nearly enough to account for the trillions of flaws of this game

        Reply
        • I agree about story but then again im sure a Z version would have fixed that.
Region imo was awesome versatile and reflected the beauty of theme and france very well. I thought it was like art, simply but beautifully executed.
Laverre city was probably my fav. location!

          Reply
          • I felt the evil team coulda been executed better, Zygarde was a big loss but I enjoyed the friendly relations and adventure this game projected!
            Ofc that’s my opinion.

        • Also Kanto and Johto as beloved as they are have many flaws and only together do they feel like a region that deliver on the same scale as latter regions!

          Reply
          • I’m sure everyone agrees to that.
Regarding the regions both, Johto especially are beloved to me however have certain flaws most likely due to being early attempts from GF.
Both were extremely small in size. I would describe as a walk in the park. This made the experience feel quick and kept a unsatisfied taste in my mouth wanting more.

Secondly lack of diverse terrain, locations and structures especially in comparison to latter regions.
This makes exploration more repetitive, less exciting and interesting.

Johto was very cramped. Although Johto had cool side quests such as the Pokeathlon and BC, Kanto was very limited in things to do.

The regions also didn’t impress in availability of mons and Johto was a testament to this.

I felt like Kanto lacked identity, whereas Johto did have some imo

Of course I love both regions but I feel simply put they both need each other.
Whereas Hoenn, Unova, Kalos and Alola can stand on their own feet.
Each region posses diversity in terrain, design and have an identity unique to them. They’re all very big too.

          • That could be a factor. That’s why I wish to see sequels to them on the switch.
Another thing to remember is the regions were designed as such based on Japanese regions and I feel this was no must alimitation but also a design choice

          • Simple. White and green tiles/colouring for GBA. Different textures if regular GB.
Don’t forget we’ve had remakes on better engines.

    • Ok seriously Kalos isn’t even that bad. Sometimes I think people over exaggerate simply because they can.

To me personally Gen 6 introduced better Pokemon than Gen 7, and it also gave us better battle mechanics. Mega Evolution also trumps Z-moves and regionals put together.

Ok story, evil team and region weren’t the best (still better than whatever Johto was) but for me the Gen 6 games had me invested in them for much longer than the Gen 7 ones.

      Reply
        • I’m talking about the overall experience of the game, not just the story. As I said Gen 6 had more new things introduced which kept me playing longer after the story had finished. With Gen 7 I got bored much more quickly…

          Reply
          • Ok yes but what I’m saying is that mega evolution is hardly used at all in the entirety of the game. You have a small number you can use during the story then the quest to get them in the post game is tedious and you don’t really have much use for them at that point if you don’t do comp

      • I agree Gen 6 is overhated, but a lot of the stuff you listed is subjective so of course you’re going to see other people as hyperbolic.

        Reply
        • Well opinions are by nature subjective.

I picked out the things that were important to me that I liked (battle mechanics, breeding changes, Pokemon designs).

Others pick out things that are important to them that they didn’t like (story, evil team, region design), which I do acknowledge.

          Reply
          • Yeah but like what I was meaning is that Gen 6 being hated is mostly due to its subjective qualities than its objective qualities, thus why others are going to appear hyperbolic for you.

          • People saying there’s ‘not a single thing they like about Gen 6/Kalos’ is a hyperbolic statement regardless of their subjective opinions. Of course I don’t want to get into the nitty gritty but it’s the use of such absolute statements that kind of irks me.

But hey, personally I have quite a few things I like about Gen 6.

  9. Well I’m leaving. I just wanted everyone to respect the opinions of others and not be so negative all the time. I really don’t see the point in arguing with anyone anymore, I was just trying to make everyone feel valued but once again I’ve messed up and I’m really not good at talking to people at all. Hope everyone enjoys USUM or Pokemon Switch or something Pokemon related in future.

    • Nooo. Do you have any other means of contact such as social media?? I would like us to contiue rapport outside of the jungle if possible?
I also want to say I respect you and have learnt the importance of being mature and respectful. You’re a great example and someone I admire!

      Reply
    • Whoahwhoahwhoahwhoah!! You’re a really cool person! It’s fine!!! Don’t worry!! Nobody here wants you to leave! We all like you! You’re legitimately one of the coolest people on the site!

      Reply
    • Heyy just because people have different viewpoints there’s no reason to leave and no one is asking you to. Pretty sure noone is mad at that little argumen so you should stay and focus on the things you like rather than people disliking things you like.

      Reply
    • I respect your choice if you leave, but I really think it’s not worth leaving over. It takes two to tango, and people who are on the other side often push the opposing viewpoint and either on purpose or by accident, incense the other side into retaliating. It’s a victimless war.

      Reply
      • He wasn’t tango’ing at all.
Rather he was attempting to promote respect between the fellow junglers and was standing up for what was right.
There was no fight really but I understand why Monkeufuzz feels frustrated.

        Reply
        • I never said Monkeyfuzz was one of the people tangoing. In fact, he was one of the most level headed, critical minded person on the site.

‘What is right’ is funny coming from you because you’re one of the sides I’m talking about. You talk about being mature but you don’t practice what you preach. I’ve seen absolutely no critical thinking coming from you at all, and that’s an important part of being mature. Being able to make, process, and accept criticism, and knowing when to hold back when criticism goes too far.

I do feel some people here can get too negative, but too positive can be an issue too. These thugs are extremes and neither are preferable.

          Reply
          • I agree I was very critical and imposing initially and in recent weeks.
I have accepted my flaws and I am trying to correct myself.
In recent days I have been nothing but respectful, patient despite many attempts to provoke me.
I am accepting criticism and every thing you say.
If you look at the convo below you will see I am being very patient and respectful. Others were being imposing but that’s fine.
            I’m focusing on improving myself.
I only wish you can see that too, don’t mean any offence friend :]

          • Look, I understand that a lot of people are bringing in opposing views, but from an outside perspective a lot of what you’re accusing them of is inverted in your own comments. You seem like a really nice person and I really don’t want to offend you either, it’s just that I feel like all the conflict is caused by people not stepping down and either ignoring or accepting criticisms, just bouncing them back.

          • I agree I was very poor at accepting that others may dislike what I like.
What bothered me was certain Junglers were very aggressive and rude and this would go unnoticed.
My mistake was I’d drop to their level and argue back.
At this point I’m trying to just focus on myself and be cordial to all.
If you look through last few days you’ll see that’s what I’ve been doing and others not mentioning names have tried to provoke me to no success.
Anyways I feel that ur upset with me. Sorry dude please forgive me, lets be friends and work to making a better Jungle!

  10. Team Flare is so confusing to me

They’re basically a cult right? Then why are they so ridiculous and laughable? It’s like they wanted them to be comedic but that doesn’t work when they’re resetting the damn world

    Reply
  11. I think a lot of issues on this site is that people find it hard to accept others opinions and feel a heavy need to be validated by their opinions. And I understand. It’s a game you play for fun, not everyone here is wanting biting critical analysis or to have their opinions challenged. That’s fine. But you can’t just criticise one thing and not take criticism to your own thing.

  12. Okay so as y’all know USUM is adding move tutors
So to kinda celebrate, here’s an analysis of some Alolan Pokemon I feel might become better competitively with these new additions.

Note, I will not be including Dusk despite the fact that it is literally a reskin because its not been used in competitive yet.

    1. Araquanid- Although it doesn’t seem like much, Araquanid has sticky web via egg move now. Even though Galvantula is considered the premier sticky webber, Araquanid can make interesting use of it. Due to its ability to apply pressure and essentially force switches on certain mons. Most sets would only have three real essential moves with an open slot which allows sticky web to perfectly fit on Araquanid’s set and give it a supportive role. Additionally, it can counter a specific clown like Ultra Beast pretty well which allows it to get webs up on it with ease. I can see it rising a tier if it works any way like it does on paper.
    2. Decidueye- Although leaf storm is nice, it doesn’t do much for it. Shadow sneak is a miracle because it allows for a more reliable priority attack to take out certain pokemon that can set up on a sweeping decidueye simply because they could stall out its sucker punches. Although I overlooked it at first, tailwind might actually be its most important addition. With its ability to trap Pokemon, provide support with moves like defog, and even posses healing and momentum options in U-turn and Baton pass, Decidueye’s role as a supporter may become much more potent.
    3. Incineroar- As much as I hate this thing, I can’t deny that it got quite a bit to work with….. or will. I’ll be honest, this thing NEEDS intimidate desperately. But disregarding that, it got a lot. Thunderpunch is nice but its a tad weak. Fire punch is a welcome addition considering its only real physical fire move prior was flare blitz. Considering how slow it is, there’s a reason that move is never used. It also got superpower, iron head, and drain punch which all give it various minor bonuses but NOTHING compares to its biggest buff, knock off. This Pokemon has high attack, enough said. The ability for it to hit with a strong dark move that knocks the item off an opponent is invaluable considering it can flat out cripple some Pokemon. Although I don’t see its position changing until it receives intimidate, it becomes without a doubt a much stronger Pokemon.

    4-7 coming soon

  13. Part 2!

    4. Lyranroc Midnight- Although Lycanroc cheeto form is the main lycanroc on everyone’s mind, Midnight has received some unexpected buffs. To help this bipedal edgy fursona out, it got some interesting moves. It has fire and thunder punch which are a fair amount stronger than the fang moves midday received. It has access to foul play which is useful and perhaps best of all, iron tail. Considering its no guard ability, it can make use of this otherwise unusable move with its 100 base damage and chance to lower defense. This makes Lycanroc midnight a decently large threat in the lower tiers considering its ability to hit fairies rather hard along with the rest of its decent coverage.
    5. Passimian- TALK ABOUT A BUFF HOLY SHITT! This thing… got so… so much… Lets list some moves. Iron head, seed bomb, super power, knock off, electroweb… for… some reason, drain punch, gunk shot. DAMN! This thing got literally everything it could have wanted! I can easily see this thing rising a tier or two with these buffs… coverage, recovery, knock off… this thing seriously got every possible thing it could have wanted and actually has a proper speed tier to make use out of all these things… unfortunately it is missing one thing… its hidden ability. Considering how literally 30+ mons decided to hop on the defog train for absolutely no reason, Passimian’s defiant would be an AMAZING punisher for specifc defoggers like rotom considering its new addition, seed bomb. Unfortunately its ability is still locked for some weird reason.. just wait, the day it becomes usable, this weird lemur-monkey-jock-thingy will see some usage. I’m sure as hell using one.
    6. Kommo-o- …. remember when people said this would be bad? Close combat, elemental punches, iron head, aqua tail… z-move can I stop here? No? Okay. This got all coverage… recovery… yknow… literally everything..a new z move…along with the things it previously had like dragon dance and soundproof to cancel the z moves of other kommo-os, literally everything about it has been enhanced and made better. Oh yeah and it got stealth rocks cause reasons….
This thing to put it lightly has been buffed like F**K

I got a final mon to talk about but it’s… interesting so I’ll give it its own section
