Pikachu Outbreak-Chu Event: Mewtwo in GO, Snapchat Filter & More!

To tie in with the Pikachu Outbreak-chu event in Yokohama, Mewtwo has officially been released via Legendary Raid in Pokémon GO as an exclusive to the Pokémon GO Stadium event in Yokohama, Japan!

Mewtwo in Pokemon GO

Shortly after Mewtwo’s first appearance in the stadium, Niantic released an official statement that it would be coming to players worldwide via a new mechanic called Exclusive Raid Battles. These work exactly like regular raid battles with the only difference being to participate in them you have to be invited to them. To receive an invitation trainers must have successfully defeated a raid boss recently at the Gym where the Exclusive Raid Battle will be taking place – meaning that it’s completely by chance and there’s no way (that we know of yet) to predict which Gyms will spawn an Exclusive Raid Battle later. The invitations will include advance warning of when the Exclusive Raid will take place, giving trainers ample time to coordinate with other Trainers before taking on the powerful Raid Boss.

It was also confirmed in the statement that Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Lugia will be returning to Legendary Raid from today until August 31st!

Pikachu Snapchat Filter

Along with Mewtwo, a special Pikachu snapchat filter will be available for the next 3 days! The filter gives you a pair of signature Pikachu ears, nose and red cheeks (and luckily enough also air brushed my skin and shaved off a good 10 pounds from my face) – if you open your mouth it activates Pikachu to charge in from the left side of the screen to give you an electric kiss, allowing your face to give off bolts of electricty before Pikachu returns to the bottom left of the screen. There is no additional use of the filter on the back facing camera.

Check it out below:

Ditto & Mimikyu Distribution

Last but not least, in addition to the announced distribution of Pikachu at the Pikachu Outbreak-chu Carnival Parade in Yokohama, two other Pokémon are having a special distribution: Mimikyu and Ditto! Mimikyu is Level 10 with the moves Astonish, Copycat, Baby-Doll Eyes, and Splash, while the Ditto is holding a Light Ball.

    • I dunno, I feel the fact that they managed to change it so fast into something far more unique is pretty impressive? Like, yeah the actual trial portions themselves were absolute shit, but the concept of it themselves really added to Alola as a unique region and tbh Totem Sishiwashu

      Reply
      • *Wishiwashi and Lurantis gave me more trouble then most modern Gym Leaders have. And even though the trials were shit, modern gym puzzles are just as shit imo because they they’re not very thought through and are just timewasters rather than meaningful puzzles

And tbh the fact those were meant to be gyms just make me feel that they’re even more likely to be Gyms in USUM

        Reply
        • Oh the Totem Pokemon were great, I loved the strategy involved and I wish we had more double battles in-game in general. GF can get creative with double strategies. I’m moreso laughing at the fact that so many, myself included, were speculating on those plots of land, and it turns out it was just a scrapped idea at the very last second and wasn’t alluding to anything.

          Reply
        • I respect that you are looking at in in that way but it is still terrible that it got to a point where they couldn’t get people to work on the trials. The totems were good, but the trials were shit. And that was the issue

          Reply
          • Gym leaders and gyms in recent years have both been shit

The closest thing we’ve got to ‘hard’ puzzles since like BW (the soft refresh) were like, Burgh, Valerie and Olympia’s gyms, maybe Wulfric’s. And that’s mostly because three of them you don’t know where the entrance will take you. At least the trials tried to do something, or in the case of Normal, Water, and Dragon just straight up admitted ‘here we’re just waiting for you to go to the totem so here’s some filler’

Gym Leaders nowadays tend to be easy as well imo

I’m actually really happy with what they did? They took a risk. A kind of stupid one? Yes. But they took that risk and created a well received game that at least somewhat tried to be different. You’re forgetting GameFreak has always been this way – for example, Mew was injected last minute by one(!) guy and has become uber popular

          • I think my issue is less what they did and more how and why. They clearly didn’t give them the time and effort they deserved. I loved trial captains and totems. They made Alola feel like it had a culture unlike Kalos or Hoenn. But its clear that the problems in development left them not using the potential it had.

          • Kalos and Hoenn? What about Sinnoh and Unova which had gyms too lol. What’s the difference between these 4 regions culture wise?

          • I think Sinnoh and Unova tend to get excused because they’re decently good story games? That’s at least my guess

Unova didn’t feel very NY state outside of Castelia and Nimbasa imo

          • Kanto I give a pass even if i shouldn’t
Johto had a fantastic rural atmosphere especially in the remakes. Stuff like the miltank ranch and the old japanese towers go a long way
Sinnoh was drenched in lore in every bit of the world.
Unova was very urban most of the way through.

Alola having trials takes it a step further.

          • Hoenn was 50% water, no other region has come close, unique culture no? Annoying culture to say the least lol.

          • what people fail to understand is that the amount of water in the game was because of the theme of Hoenn, the earth, the sea, the sky. i dont like the 7.8/10 too much water argument

          • They never do anything with that ocean though. There is no culture built around the sea really. There’s like one port town and pacifidlog town and that’s it

          • Slateport, Lillycove, Pacifidlog, Slateport, and Mossdeep is an island

I don’t like Hoenn but it did try to use its water and I’d say that in ORAS it succeeded

          • pacifidlog is one of the best areas in hoenn imo. also to get to mossdeep is big use of water, having the dive mechanic in this region was huge. team aqua was in the water, finding kyogre in emerald was all water. the regis were all water. i dont see how they didnt use it enough.

          • Hoenn no, ORAS go for it. Hoenn wasnt bad at all. the water argument just really annoys me,thats on me not you, dont think im attacking your opinion lol just want to make suer anything i say isnt take with like malice

    • It’s a great game. And there still are chances they’ll use the plots as gyms in usum. Maybe he’ll use the original ideas he had for the Alola league. maybe USUM is the versions with his og gyms gyms.

      • You continue to miss the point. The games are heavily flawed with problems stemming from a clear lack of planning or organization at gamefreak.

GAMES CAN BE FLAWED AND STILL BE OK

If you truly love something you need to understand and accept all of its flaws and problems. I fucking love Sun and Moon but you see me being critical of it and the state of pokemon and game freak all the time.

        Reply
        • I know that GF has flaws, so do all their games. The first sentence was more about how the tweeter called the games “pathethic” Which usually doesn’t mean good.
But things like these make me like GF more. I can see that they are, in fact humans. They make Big mistakes. But What’s amazing is that the outcome is usually amazing.

          Reply
          • It worked this time but I will bet you that these same problems occurred in X and Y’s development and look how that turned out. Trials were bad. let’s admit that. The idea what amazing. The execution was bad and it’s clear GF is to blame. They shouldn’t be praised for making something bad because “at least they made something”

They deserve criticism so they won’t make this mistake again. Sun and Moon did many things right, but the things it did wrong it REALLY did wrong. The trials, festival plaza, and post game were pathetic.

          • Post game has been bad for half the games, even the ones they probably didn’t have to rush, and gym puzzles have pretty much been on trial level since BW

It’s not a SuMo issue, it’s a whole franchise issue

          • Then i would say Sun and Moon is X and Y but actually playable and dressed in a nice world, story, and pokedex. They both are representative of the issues in the series

          • Every game is representative of this series’ issues

I’d say the only game that isn’t is Black and White because

            They weren’t major transitions

They had a decent level curve

They weren’t rushed for an anniversary or anything

And even then they’re still flawed games

          • so when are they going to gather up all the issues and flaws like we are doing rn and make a better game?

          • Thats the thing though right? B2W2, fantastic games, sold terribly compared to the rest of the series. Then X and Y were the best selling games on the 3DS (before Sun and Moon) and those were pretty bad

          • wait really? i had no idea bw2 sold badly. youd think the first ever sequels (if you dont count johto, which i do not) wouldve sold well.

          • It is exactly a third version thing. Third versions arent really “appealed” for young kids. Only hard core fans (us) will buy it. I mean lets be honest when we were kids did you buy the original two AND third version? I sure never did.

          • its funny cuz the way i did pokemon games was I would get oneof the two and my brother would get the other. it was more like i get the first title while he gets the second title but i change a lot based on things such as version exclusives. i never really saw a need to buy both versions

          • And where do the sales say ‘most kids don’t’? Millions of people still buy them and there’s no statistics out there saying who drops them? It could be the people online bitching about how their favorite game franchise is flawed after their nostalgia glasses fell off

          • Oh so the millions of people are just so happen to drop their nostalgia glasses for reboots and then pick them back up for the next generation? I shouldnt say most as I dont know, but kids do make up a large portion of their consumers

          • It’s almost like.. Get this.. That last part was sarcasm considering the situation we’re in!? Could you believe it!?

We don’t know who’s been dropping it, so yeah, unless we get a survey it’s dumb to outright say ‘it’s less kids’ or ‘less adults’.

          • Lol how about less people? Studies sshow less people are buying remakes. Does it make a difference? Remakes sale for less

          • Then that’s how you should’ve phrased it because that’s an objective fact? Rather than saying it was mostly kids dropping it when we don’t know how much each demographic dropped it? :/ sorry

          • November 17th 2017

The best thing about third versions is that they’re less dirtied from what makes other games shit. No rush, no huge transition. Just dev time using skills they got from the original versions of the game

          • If they could rush SuMo and make the 3DS’ second best selling game another year with that as the basis is gonna be better at least from an objective, mechanical standpoint

          • We get it. I can’t believe we’ve been discussing the same stuff for about three or four days. It’s kinda getting repetative. I absolutely love discussions like this, but it’s honestly kinda getting annoying. Both Butter Geek and you have been sharing the same opinion for days with no alterations. We all admit that Pokemon games are good, but all games have their flaws. We all want the Switch Pokemon game to succeed. I believe that this turbulent discussion is fueled by the lack of US/UM, which is flourishing the “hate” towards GameFreak.

        • Pokémon as a whole has always been heavily flawed. Red and Blue are glitched to fuck, every Johto game has a shit flavoured levelling curve, Hoenn was the start of them removing important features, Sinnoh was a mechanical monstrosity with far too much mountain, Unova suffers from little selection and shortness (BW) or bad pacing (BW2), XY…exists, and now SuMo are revealed to be rushed and people are treating it like it’s a special case or something

          Reply
          • That’s what I meant by mechanical monstrosity

Pretty sure that’s where half of my childhood went

          • I actually have to agree, I found them… Good. But that’s the issue for me imo, they were just… Good.

I felt Mega Evolution could’ve been used much better

          • i agree they were good. i mean its more personal for me but putting that to the side, i started competitive in bw-bw2 and sun moon made it easier and allowed more people to get into competitive, cant really argue with this tbh

          • also i was annoyed with mega evolution at first but ive grown to like it especially since Z-Moves beat mega evolution out for stupidest thing in pokemon. It has made me appreciate some pokemon that i never really cared for i.e medicham, lopunny, kangaskhan

          • Z-Moves at least apply to a larger pool of Pokémon and were applied through their game tho, I wish Megas existed more in XY because including yourself before you beat the champion only four people use one

          • I don’t think it’s as much as its being treated as a special case as much as they are the newest games so that’s where the criticism is going to be directed. The other games have been heavily criticized for all that and rightly so

          • At least they’re honest and have admitted all the flaws they’ve done so people can bitch about it online like it’s actually anything new

          • But how come we have to literally hope and pray good features return? Dont you think if its a good feature they would keep it? Why are there remakes of regions just one year later with pretty much the same story? Why not just make the original one just awesome? Why are move tutors remake/sequel exclusive? Shouldnt they just be in every game? I mean I know we love pokemon but if we sit down and really analyze they arent doing anything very innovative

          • – Because they’re constantly swapping features in and out (because it’s never been straight removal, we tend to get replacements or at least new things in another direction) which exists to add value to going back to play old games which makes you more likely to buy them because you know you aren’t just going to forget about them in the future

            – Easier to make and easier to profit from, and also because most of the games are rushed for anniversaries (DP and SuMo) or are flawed due to GameFreak constantly changing hardware (RS and XY)

            – To add a reason to buy a rereleased game

            Tl:dr

            ¥¥¥

          • – If Zelda removed the Z-Targeting system from Majora’s Mask and all future 3D zelas and replaced it with some worse alternative, imagine how bad all those games would play.
            – 3rd versions sell the worse out of any other kind of pokemon games

          • – GameFreak has never removed a core function (stuff related to the core battling system), z-targetting is part of a 3D Zelda’s core mechanics. Bad comparison

            – So? They also cost less to develop so they still make a profit. That’s what a company does

          • They still sell millions and you’re pretty much just going to edit an existing game. And the thing is, they don’t have to choose between a third version and a new game. They’re usually deving multiples at a time and they still end up releasing the profit-giving third version and the well selling new game. They can have their cake and eat it

          • Can we stop excusing them for that though? You never see Nintendo plague their big games with these issues as consistantly as pokemon does. When you’ve been making games for 20 years you should be putting out content at a much higher level

          • Because Shovel Knight is way more mechanically simple than Pokémon? Doesn’t need to constantly change hardware outside of mostly straight ports? Isn’t constantly being rushed to meet deadlines?

Pokémon is heavily flawed but so is this comparison

          • Well then the develpment side of Pokemon is seriously flawed. Pokemon games cant get bigger because they still have a small team. They are crunching to release it by a specific date.

Notice how no Pokemon games have ever been delayed? i think that shows how much they care about quantity over quality. Its kind of crazy to think that Miyamoto said this http://www.azquotes.com/picture-quotes/quote-a-delayed-game-is-eventually-good-but-a-rushed-game-is-forever-bad-shigeru-miyamoto-20-21-20.jpg

and yet Gamefreak isn’t listening to that

          • Because no Pokémon game has ever been ‘bad’ from an objective standpoint, even if they’re subjectively found bad by everyone

And if they were to suddenly increase their numbers, you start getting all the other issues that come with that. It needs to be a gradual increase, and from what I’ve seen, that’s what they’ve been doing

Also considering Nintendo owns all the trademarks and stuff, not GameFreak, they’re probably the ones coaching the release times

          • wait now people realize this? ive been trying to express that people cant use the “news drought” as an excuse for pokemon news when usum are literally only a year after sunmoon. all i have to say is they better be working on the switch game as we speak and if not they better delay it. they cannot screw up their first switch game

    • I’m curious where this information came from… Apologies if I missed something, I haven’t checked on any news for a couple days

      Reply
    • Lol they literally just left them as empty spots. Shaaame. They should have at least did both.
Its like when smash decided at the last minute to make Lucina a character but instead of scrapping Marth they just left the space there for no reason

    • Wow. I could have sworn that GameInformer covered this, but it’s still baffling. How were trials added at the last moments? It’s still baffles me how they managed to do this.

  1. Did ya know… Sun and Moon was originally gonna have a Champion but they couldnt come up with a design so they were like “Yo man let make the player the first champion and he fight the professor WOAHHH SO COOL”

  2. It’s so funny how so many of the what appears to be last minute changes and additions ended up being their greatest ideas. Changing things up with trials was a great idea. The player character defending the champion title is an awesome addition. People need to get over the fact that they were last minute additions and just accept the cool innovations that the stress of finishing the games brought us. I for one hope they learn from what they have here and bring the innovations the future games

    • Hey dont worry about it. You will still enjoy the game. Third versions are ALWAYS better than the original, so USUM will be awesome especially if you liked SM

      Reply
      • Oh no, I’m probably gonna love or at least have a decent time playing USUM, it’s mostly just that it ruins the atmosphere before the games come out which makes this place feel worse which sucks because I like most people here :/

        Reply
        • It shouldnt. Our opinions arent really causing harm. I mean honestly we feel so strongly about it because we love the series and we just want to see the best come out of it. I know I will love USUM. Heck, I still play SM lol so just dont let other people influence your experience.

          • The thing is tho, there’s opinions and then expressing those opinions so repetitively it just comes across as negative even if it isn’t intentional. It’s like watching a somethingcritical jr forming

          • If you really dont like it feel free to take a leave until USUM come out :). Or just try to lead the conversation. Or just have it not affect you. I know it can be hard, but people just voice their opinions. Sure it can be repetitive. but it happens. You just love the game as much as you do and you will be fine.

          • The whole point I made is that I like coming here but I don’t like the negativity. It’s a minor thing anyway, but if I wanted to leave, there’s nothing stopping me.

I’m pretty much just trying to low-key tell people they’re getting annoying because they can stick to that topic for days but can’t stick to the article topic for more than a few hours ¯_(ツ)_/ ¯

  5. I wish they introduced more battling styles in-game. Like Everything is singles except like once every other route with a double battle. One reason I loved Emerald is the fact you can see they purposely tried to implement a double battle (or more) every route. They kinda did it with Platinum too. I want more of that. I know since Triples (my favorite battle style) and rotation is gone they cant do much, but I still miss it. Maybe a trial/gym dedicated to inverse battle

    Reply
    • “Having trainers on screen with these detailed backgrounds slows down battles way too much in triple and rotation battles! Should we simplify the backgrounds and not show trainer models in these type of battles only?”
