Following the soft reveal of a blurry Lycanroc Dusk Form on the front cover, pages from Japanese comic magazine, CoroCoro, have begun to leak and contain information about the new form!
UPDATE: We finally have clearer images of the CoroCoro leaks and can confirm the following info:
- There will be a “Special Rockruff” distribution for Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon from launch day until January 10th, 2018
- Confirmation that Lycanroc Dusk Form cannot be obtained through normal gameplay and seems to be tied to events
- Dusk Form Lycanroc is pure Rock-type
- When evolving into Dusk Form, Lycanroc can learn both Counter and Accelrock – which were previously Midnight and Midday form exclusives respectively
- It can have the ability Tough Claws, which boosts the power of contact moves by 30%

Well I am certainly glad they gave it Tough Claws. Just with that ability I believe it will be stronger/more easily usable than the original forms. How much depends on how they handle its stat distribution.
I seriously hope they dont try to balance the stats between of the other two Lycanrocs. Its already a trashy rock type, they need to help it as much as possible.
I believe its optimal if it retains the Midday stats.

I’m glad a new feature in this game has made you happy Earthen. Especially since it’s a new Pokémon (form) mid-gen. I’m also considering it but I usually like for me teams to be unique and I’m not sure how many people will want this new form.

So I think we all kind of forget that not every pokemon has to be competitively viable. Pokemon is after all for kids as well. Think about being a little kid and evolving this rockruff and it’s one form but then your friend does it and gets a different form and you two have no idea why because you haven’t used the internet to search it. There’s mystery. There’s intrigue. You all have different wolves and some are better than others. It’s a game after all, and making a new pokemon with this…I guess… gimmick is just going to increase the fun.

Just going to put this out there and say that if you’re going to say “New formes => cash grab”, then you must also apply that to Platinum. Though I agree that this should just Be Lycanroc, and not a new form.
First they made two forms. A solid wolf pokemon and a Werewolf pokemon, both were often asked for. Now when they thought about USUM they thought about making a fusion of the two forms.
But it doesn’t matter because there is no reason to ever use either of those Pokémon over Dusk

A bad typing can be saved by a good movepool and stat distribution. But in Lycanrock’s case it gets shunned in all 3 cases. At least ability is decent this time around.

I’m starting to like Dusk Lycan a lot more now. I know that they really shouldn’t have had 2 other forms in the first place if this is the “true” version of Lycan, but still combining the elements of both Lycans (like the moves, Midday’s speed, the little bit of bulk from Midnight) is probably going to give it a good use in competitive battling (still hoping it makes UU if that’s the case). Ontop of that, Tough Claws is going to rock (no pun intended) with this thing.

I am still on the fence about Lycanroc Dusk. Tough Claw and Accelrock does make it seem kind of viable, but I am going to wait a little longer before I say if I like it or not. Here is hoping to it being able to one shot Drifblim. I guess next month we will see Lycanroc Dawn unless it’s in a trailer on Friday. It’s technically the first true week of the month so I suspect that we are going to get a small trailer for USUM if were lucky.

Those are perfect words. Some people expect BOTW with pokemon. Pokemon Switch is still just gonna be a good ol pokemon game, but with some changes.

Why would they? I wouldn’t expect a BOTW level game, they are very different things. I would think it would be like a combination of Colosseum/XD and Main Games, with better graphics. They need to decide on the style they are going for and then focus on story etc. It probably won’t have Pokemon looking like they do in Pokken for example. i expect it to be at least as good as the main games, which if it is a main game there is no reason it shouldn’t be. The words here paint a negative view imo, like they don’t really know what they are doing.
Might as well address this. An open world, BotW-esque, MMO Pokemon game isn’t just a high expectation, it’s an unrealistic and irrational one (in fairness, I’ve never heard anybody expect that on Pokemon dedicated sites). It just seems like such a defeatist attitude to say “we’ll never meet expectations, so lower them or be dissapointed”.

Something tells me its going to be Generation 8. Open-world concept is rather different for Pokemon to implement. Going seemingly traditional, but pulling elements from titles such as Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero: Dawn would allow for some open-world elements to utilized. Basically, more branching paths, larger environments, and more rewards.

My old friend had three dogs. The one was a lab the other a pitt and the third a bulldog . None of the messed with the lab as she was the head of the pack in the house, but when she got old the pitt would attack her and try to maintain power over her. So maybe the same thing might be happening with your pups? They ended up having to get rid of the pitt cause the lab was too old to defend herself. Hope you can figure out.

I don’t think they’ll ever allow for more than one save file. I mean look at Zelda BOTW. Even it doesn’t allow for more than one save. Sure they’re different developers, but if Aonuma isn’t willing to do it why would GF? The closest we’ll get to multiple saves is the ability to have different accounts on the Switch. If you want to play a Pokemon game over then you have to create a new Switch account to do so. That’s likely how it’ll be.
thats what i meant. profiles = switch accounts. cant you just make a new profile on your switch and play zelda? i know people who do this due to sharing a system. its like the wiiu. if two people share a wiiu, you create 2 profiles for each person and this allow for different files for games

You know what? the more I look at it the more I actually like Lycanroc Dusk. I find it way more interesting than Midday and the fact that it appears to have a mix of both Midday and Midnight’s move sets makes it way more attractive. Plus it’s got Tough Claws as an ability which isn’t bad at all. I even think the motif is a bit more interesting as well. Being evolved by what appears to be a different way than just during the day or at night could be interesting.

Idk. They may be giving away Rockruff in an event, but you’d still need a way IN game to cause the evolution to dusk form. Otherwise they’d just give away dusk form and not Rockruff. It may have a Z move, but we’ll just have to see about that.

#1. I know they werent asked about USUM, but seriously NOTHING on USUM?? Im really starting to feel like its like them getting a little bit of cash, but their main focus is Pokemon Switch. USUM will be just be lifeless.

ORAS with delta, mirage and sidequests is close to 40 depending on how quick a game is played. Atm im 50+ having just completed delta episode.
Can’t comment on XY. BW from memory had a huge main game but post game included I’d say easily over 30/35.

Except the post games are tiny ever since black and white 2. Mirage spots don’t even come close to what Gen 4 and B2W2 had. They’re getting lazier and making their fan base lazier by not trusting them to keep playing the game

ok seriously, i agree botw was a great game trust me i really do, but can we not compare everything to botw. I dont think botw can be “the standard” for every video game nintendo makes from now on. we havent even gotten some of the good games that arent botw. i get it, its nice to have the open world and freedom and it looks like mario odyssey will be somewhat open world as well. i just dont think it can work for pokemon. remember pokemon is short for pocket monsters because of the fact that the systems pokemon games were on were handhelds and could fit in your pocket and therefore you had monsters in your pocket. the switch cannot really do this. but i just dont see how pokemon can make such a giant transition. Zelda for the most part has always had a level of freedom in games. you were able to go wherever you wanted, in OoT there were places like Lon Lon Ranch where you could get epona which i dont believe was required. in twilight princess there was a lot of freedom in terms of just a lot of area and i think you could do the last few dungeons in the order you want (not 100% positive on this) and then we had skyward sword which had you fly on a loftwing and thee were small floating islands you could explore. so there has been this level of freedom which eventually led to botw level open world and freedom. Pokemon isnt the same. if they are going to do it there needs to be some sort of transition. maybe allow us to do the gyms in any order we want which can sorta be utilized by the new system of hms sun and moon introduced. it doesnt seem hard to make this happen or something of the like. bw2 was a perfect transition to x and y. the buildings became more 3d as well as a lot of the areas like the bridges and gyms and constant movement of pokemon battles that slowly evolved (pun intended) over pokemon games. i just dont see anything there yet. there is so much a switch game can bring and im sooo excitied to find out but lets see what usum brings to the table in terms of being the last 3ds game. i totally didnt think about it but technically the switch is still handheld but i would love to see a main game pokemon game on tv as a main game version of colosseum and xd. While I don’t agree that Pokemon couldn’t work in an open world format, I definitely agree that BotW shouldn’t be held as the standard for every game. Of course, anyone can hope for that, but expecting Pokemon Switch to be an open world MMO experience is unrealistic. Just give me a core Pokemon experience that’s a lot more fleshed out than the 3DS games and we’re golden.

I feel the same (but not about open world), but I’ve heard people on other sites claiming that they fully expect a huge MMO for the next game. While that’s unrealistic to expect, I don’t think it’s too much to want a game that’s more detailed and has more content than the 3DS games. SM were fantastic games until you hit the post game, where not only was there not enough content, it was lacking in some unexpected areas (not all mega stones, no national dex, etc). If it just had a little more fuel to keep me going and fixed some issues (ugh festival plaza), then I think it could easily be my favorite game of the series, but as it stands it’s just so bare bones. I was hoping USUM would be the fix that I desired, but at this point I don’t know.

The BOTW comparison was mainly used to show the difference between past and recent games graphically and open wprldy wise. Probably wasn’t the best because I don’t even know what game came before BOTW, but everyone said BOTW was so innovative, so I want Pokemon to be like that.

Imo they’re following a bad marketing strategy. What’s the point on announcing a switch game when you have just announced a 3ds game that would need all the attention because it’a a sequel not really (yet) appreciated? Why do you release an interview on a game that will be out in one or two years when you have a game that will be out in 3 months and that at the moment is not that appreciated because of the lack of informations?
They have no clue themselves I suppose. Announcing USUM was a mistake, they could have gone without releasing new games for a year.
They are working on these games (usum) since sun & moon were announced so there’s no way they just cancel them. The point is: if you have to promote two new games, promote and focus on them. This switch thing simply distracted everyone fron usum and this is bad for them imo. People are looking for a switch console for next year while Gf shoud motivate them to keep their eyes on buying a game for a console they will not use anymore next year.

To add to that: the announcement of USUM provoked concerns among some fans that the games would be cash grab rehashes, and what do they do to calm the fans? Wait two months for the cement to dry, and then announce something that gives the fans even more reason to worry.
Feels like they are hurting the image of the brand more than by just waiting to announce the Switch game and releasing nothing else. I fear they underestimated the demand for a Switch installment and had to change development abruptly to focus on Switch, neglecting USUM.
I say the other way around. I think that development was mostly focused on Switch after SM, but due to the initial success of the Switch, Nintendo told them to hold off on the Switch game to beef up the 2018/2019 line-up, since stock issues are expected to persist through already high demand this year. So, instead of focusing this extra time on developing Pokemon SW, they’re now scrambling to push out another 3DS title this year to fill the gap, using already made SM assets.

Why does everyone act like they weren’t working on this Switch title earlier? They literally hired a more staff in March with PS Vita and Wii U experience for a new Pokemon game. Development for the Switch Pokemon title likely started in 2015. That interview only provided some context towards the Switch title.

I know a lot of people have concerns about USUM being lazy or being below expectations. I also know that people seem to be upset with gamefreak recent Gen 8 switch game interview, but personally I think they are going to do a good job. I think we need lower expectations, because to be brutally honest they have a lot of work to do in a short period of time. They probably have to redo or redefine many of their 3d models to upscale them. The also have to make sure that it will run good docked and undocked. There are other things as well. USUM will be as lazy as what people thought Platinum, and Black and White 2 were. To be honest these games being the 3rd for a particular region didn’t add much. Platinum had different forms for legendaries, and rotom forms. Black and White 2 had the 2 new forms for kyurem, and the 3 therian forms. As for the people who think Lycanroc Dusk is just a reskin, I partially agree with you, but you honestly can’t blame them, because the have seen the success of reskins from games like Yokai Watch and Monster Hunter and they figure they can cash in on it as well since it works for their competitors. What I am saying is that we need to have our expectation at a level in which we can trust them to make coherent games that have a small part of what we want. I am sorry if this sounds like a rant. I am just tried of people doubting them in the general sense.I wouldn’t necessarily call this fanboying either. I considering this not counting my chickens before the eggs hatch.
I think gen 8 will be great, but USUM are…..Well I still don’t know. We still know almost nothing about it so I’m still keeping an open mind, but it certainly isn’t looking to be an exciting addition to the series. We shall see
I think they might not be showing as much, since this is effectively a sequel in their eyes. I am hoping that they give us a longer trailer soon. I suspect that we might get on on Friday at the earliest and the end of the month at the latest. They really don’t have that much time to work with to promote and advertise for USUM. We are roughly about 3 months away from the games. So, we are going to see about 3 more corocoro leaks, but within this time it would be nice if they gave us a few trailers.
I’m not sure it’s a sequel tho. If it was, it wouldn’t be getting half as much flack as it has. Obviously we still don’t know for sure, but it certainly doesn’t look like a sequel

Are any of you excited for the live action (Teen) Titans Series? The team will be simmilar to the one on the cartoon(s), just without cyborg, maybe with the addition of Kid Flash (the one from the CW’s Flash) and with a Robin that already turned into Nightwing. Nightwing and Starfire will be in their 20s, Raven and beast boy in their early teens. Raven is the only one that has a confirmed actor at the moment, it’s the 13 year old Teagan Croft.

I think that these incarnation forms might be a logical approach for USUM. I like the idea as much as I like the therian forms since it adds a little bit more of a complexity to them. Plus Tapu Koko and Tapu Bulu can finally get Play rough or a good physical fairy attack.

Well they’d argue it isn’t a separate Pokemon so you can still get the ‘dex entry. The thing is they either have to keep having events for it or it disappears as you say after the initial event period, both of which are dumb for something like this.
I’m just hoping that their just distributing a Rockruff, but every Rockruff could evolve into Dusk Form. If not, this is kinda ridiculous! We just need an official trailer already.

I don’t agree with making Dusk Lycanroc event exclusive, but they’ve done this in the past. Shaymin Sky Form was event exclusive (as Shaymin itself was) for Platinum. Those Pichu were event exclusive, the Pikachu hat things, etc. I don’t like the idea in general, but I’m just saying it’s nothing new.
Lycanrock Dusk is totally different though. Shaymin was already even exclusive, the pichus were removed after HGSS, and the Pikachu hats are for some movie in the future.
Lycanrock is an evolution of an already existing Pokémon. That’s some garbage right there

You can still get Shaymin Sky though, Gracidea is put into every game now. Spiky eared Pichu isn’ta form, it was a little quirk of a Pichu that they decided to have in the games for a bit. The hat Pikachu don’t have different stats or Abilities, so kinda different. A closer example would be Cosplay Pikachu, but at least you could get that any time in ORAS, though it actually annoys me too because you can’t transfer it.
I’m torn as to whether or not it actually will be event exclusive. It could just be a exclusive event one that’s supposed to be Ash’s and then you can get a regular one in game??

This wording on Serebii doesn’t say it is the only one capable, just that it is capable: “which they’re listing as a “Special Rockruff” that can evolve into Dusk Form Lycanroc.”, is this just the wording and I’m reading it as there is a possibility that others can evolve into it or is it really the only one. Special could just mean it has Ash’s OT or it has the requirements to evolve into it already.

Well, people shouldn’t be expecting a full open world just yet which i see a lot of people throwing around. but I am hoping for an above average pokemon game on the switch, and the bar is set pretty high
I am also very happy we didn’t get Stars for the switch, if we are getting a pokemon game on the switch I would rather have a whole new experience.
In all honestly I really don’t regret taking a break from this place. I’m not trying to pull the jelousy card, but that’s honestly how I feel. I love a little bit of satire but overall the discussions we have on here are rather childish are in the end, meaningless save for a handful of exeptions. Without having to worry about sticking around and contributing to the activity of GoT, I joined a G+ community. The people on there are extremely mature, knowlageable, and overall very cunning with their wording and structure. They abided by the laws of their words, and let them do the work, and that made them incredibly infulential, and not only that, actually fun to be around. I don’t even have to actually know them or be close to them to understand them. Their sentances truely speak for themselves, and I can paint a picture of what are like in real life, which is important if you want to strengthen a bond. I get to not only improve skills I have, but also have a good time with people I consider to have a rather decent connection to. I can also relate to them a lot because they all had similar pasts to me, full of cringeworthy and childish agendas, and but eventually they broke out of their shells and became the knowlageable, influential people I know today. Overall, I do believe that the G+ community I joined changed me, and made me progress as a person, something GoT couldn’t have done in a thousand years Honestly after seeing those results i’m not sure if i can live with myself anymore. we’re all friends here and its quite obvious that we still have our differences despite the fact that we’re all friends here even though we have our subtle differences. those results though made me think differently of all u.. like people that were onces my friends slowly faded out of existence like that one episode of wizards of waverly place when they traveled back in time and accidentally made it so their parents didn’t meet. kinda like that. not only has i been changed abundantly but so has my self. so yeah. got that off my chest. thanks for reading and heres to a better future. together. Everything about it looks like a cash grab. Alternate Story is really easy to make when you already have all the assets. Lycanrock Dusk is the least creative Pokémon in forever. It’s also event only and pure rock type so it’s basically pointless
GameFreak is hardly mentioning it and it seems like they just want to make money before the Switch game.
Everything about it is looking really bad and now with only a couple months left they still haven’t showed anything that represents the actual game

Coming from experience of reporting about “third games” and remakes for almost a decade now, this amount of info (or lack there of) for a third installation/remake/alternate story into a generation is incredibly common. During Platinum’s pre-release we essentially only got two new forms, and a reveal about the Distortion World and the Battle Frontier. And for B2W2 the only new stuff we got was a look at characters and some places after the time jump, and Black/White Kyurem; and both of those examples were over a few months. In my opinion, I think the fandom is a bit spoiled and has gotten a bit too used to getting LOTS of info pre-release as opposed to previous generations pre-releases. Although part of that is because of the natural shift in marketing strategies recently, so TPCi does everything differently nowadays. And when you think about it up until this point, for the past half decade, we’ve only had new games (XY, ORAS, SM) – no back to back remake or alternate storyline (DP, Pt / BW, B2W2). The main difference between alternate storyline games is the story, and that’s a bit hard to go into detail and hype up without giving everything away.
As of right now, we only know that USUM is an alternate storyline/take on SM, that the storyline has something to do with Necrozma, and that there are three new forms. And when you compare that to previous third games at this point in their pre-release, it’s the same amount of info.
That being said, this Dusk Form reveal is only the beginning of USUM’s pre-release – so hold on, ’cause it’s only going to pick up from here!

Hell yeah to that! It’s even worse trying to find either of the CG fire emblem games EU. It’s the one games I litrally have to port. I cannot justify playing over 150 in some cases. It’s going to be so funny if they do go Eshop it and suddenly all these overpriced eBay ones get no bids.

It’s really annoying for me personally because I REALLY wanted to use it on my team but I hate using event Pokémon. I want to be the OT not some random name. It’s exactly why I didn’t use the event torchic or beldum in x and Omega ruby.

I am starting to wonder with how they have handled it. They barely gave it an announcement in June , announced Pokémon switch a week later and then were tight lipped since. Fast forward to now and this is all we really have and then they are like yeah you can only get it by event btw ^.^ it’s really off putting for me personally
They’ve done event-only Pokemon in the past and it’s only one Pokemon… nothing too major or upsetting about this decision. As far as I know, the Rotom forms were treated the same way.
That is true but it’s still aggravating since I am one of those people who likes to be the OT. All I know is they need to announce something soon because I really not that hyped for USUM at this point.
I can understand that, I’m not a huge fan of Wifi events either. Honestly I have mixed opinions about the whole news drought, because I don’t know if it’s because they’re keeping the game under wraps for the most part or because there really isn’t much to say. I honestly don’t mind if we’re in for some major changes like Gyms and new Ultra Beasts and we don’t find out until very close to launch, but as time goes on expectations also get higher. Maybe we’ll have answers soon, don’t lose hope! Gamefreak doesn’t disappoint too often.
Maybe it’s because of how much news we were given with sun and moon. we pretty much knew the whole pokedex before the games came out. I do wonder how they will approach the news with the generation 8 games because of this.
Yeah, I have the same thought. There were few surprises left with the demo datamine, and it was disheartening to see another Pokedex lacking in numbers. Hopefully this will change with time.
Honestly a part of me wouldn’t mind them just revealing the cover legends and the starters and let us discover us the other Pokémon ourself. Maybe reveal 5 or so other Pokémon With them but not too many. Don’t even reveal the starters evos. I want the feeling of gen 3 and 4 again. Picking my starter and knowing how it’s going to turn out!
Gonna be honest… I’m not too sure how I feel about a event-locked evolution to a non-event Pokémon. It seems very out of character for the Pokémon Company to do this. I hope we get new forms that aren’t event locked. Because two Necrozma looking forms and a event-locked form isn’t making me want to buy the game at the moment sadly..
Exactly what I am thinking. I am usually always hyped for new Pokémon games. But with ultra sun and ultra moon I feel my hype slowly leaving and I feel more excited for the gen 2 games coming to the eshop. It hurts saying that because I love the Pokémon games.

So maybe was just me, but as a child, but I didnt know Wifi events were a thing until Gen 5 (Thats seven years after I started playing)! So I really wonder how kids of today will know. Zorua and the Zoroark thing was a stupid idea because for being cool pokemon they were locked from kids. And once I realized it was a wifi event the DS only used one type of wifi which I didnrt have!
What type of Signature move is Counter? What type of move is Counter? On a rock type? With probably low HP and defense!
I know it’s way too early to expect an answer, but what makes this event Rockruff so special? Why can this event ONLY evolve to dusk and not others? Why cant normal Rockruff evolve to others? (I expect answers in game)

The eye thing is pretty cool. But eyes turning bright green to red when attacking is weird.
Lastly, on the right page there are two pictures to the right of Dusk Lycanroc Leg. The top picture its fighting a magmortar. The bottom picture I cant tell what its fighting at all. Any guesses?

I was oblivious to Wifi events until recent too, so I definitely understand you there. I don’t think there will be a huge backstory behind this Rockruff, and it would be a stretch to attribute the changes to Necrozma or anything since it can’t be found through regular play. And the Dusk Lycanroc is indeed fighting an Alolan Raticate xD

It’s pretty sad. Normaly it feels like forever till the game releases because it’s all I’m thinking about. This time it feels like it’s flying by. I really hope they fix this soon. There’s so many good chances for Alolan forms. Such as Shuckle, Dunsparce, and Qwuilfish. Just to name a few!
I think it normally feels like forever until the games launch because it is a long period of time–somewhere around 8-9 months from announcement to launch for both XY (Jan-Oct) and SM (Feb-Nov). USUM were announced back in June with the release coming in November, which is almost half the waiting time we’re used to. It seems odd that with three months left we know little to nothing about the games, since SM news came at a steady pace. This could mean that the marketing strategy is different this time around, and the majority of the game could be kept as a surprise, or maybe there really is little to say about the changes without spoiling them all. Never has a third version gone to waste, though, so I’m keeping my hopes up 🙂

I am happy I am not the only one either. Felt weird not feeling hyped for a Pokémon game. I am more excited for the new metroid game and the mario and Luigi remake.
if i hadnt already bought super star saga on wiiu eshop like a year or so ago, id care for the remake. its on 3ds which i can barely play (altho echoes is keeping me on it) if i had the spare money sure

Well I just noticed that my animal crossing new leaf game is missing…..hoping i find it in the car tomorrow because I really don’t want to have to rebuy it and start from scratch. Had the golden axe, all the fossils and the final store upgrade. Even the coffee shop.

I just think the Rockruff forms should have a second type, like:
– Midnight: rock/dark
– Midday: rock/fire or rock/psychic?
– Dusk: rock/ground?
Midnight: Rock/Dark
Midday: Rock/Fairy or Rock/Fire
Dusk: Rock/Ice
