Pokémon GO Fest Begins! [REWARDS UPD]

Today marks Pokémon GO’s first ever real life event!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yktrQAJNbAc

REWARDS UPDATE: Despite difficulties at GO Fest, players around the world have completed all the Window Challenges and unlocked legendaries! Lugia will be given out to all GO Fest ticket holders, and Lugia raid battles will start to roll out worldwide over the next two days. Since Team Mystic contributed the most during the challenges, Articuno Raid Battles will start to roll out in the same time frame as well. In addition to the legendary birds, the following GO Fest bonuses will be active around the globe for the next 48 hours:

  • Double Stardust
  • Double Candy
  • Double XP
  • Increased Pokémon encounters
  • Reduced hatching distance
  • Reduced buddy distance

Located in Grant Park on the coast of Chicago, Illinois, Pokémon GO Fest promises plenty of Pokémon fun for ticket holders:

  • Catch a wide variety of Pokémon, including some that have never been seen before in Grant Park (regional exclusives, as well as Unown are strongly hinted at)
  • Unlock the exclusive Pokémon GO Fest Chicago medal for your profile page
  • Take advantage of the Pokémon GO Fest walking course, lined with PokéStops that award special 2 km Eggs which can only be obtained in Grant Park
  • Cool off and recharge in one of the three team lounges, where you’ll meet your fellow Instinct, Mystic, or Valor teammates
  • Commemorate the experience by snapping photos with your favorite Pokémon at the many photo opportunities around the park
  • And much more!

Can’t attend? No worries – you can still take part in the fun! The millions of PoGO players across the globe can work together with the thousands of trainers in the park to complete challenges throughout the day and unlock amazing in-game rewards globally! Earlier this week Niantic revealed that the first ever Legendary Pokémon will be one of these rewards – but it will only appear in Grant Park if trainers around the world successfully meet the capture goals set throughout the weekend. If trainers in Chicago manage to defeat the legendary, it will start appearing in Raid Battles everywhere.

A special Twitch and YouTube livestream (see above) for players that are unable to attend is available to view for the latest news coming out of Pokémon GO Fest! Including Challenge Window updates, exclusive interviews, and the reveal of the first Legendary Pokémon!

Will you be taking part in the global awards and challenges, or are you one of the lucky few who will be attending the festivities in Chicago?

  4. Not repeating types, make a team of nine Pokémon that represent every type. Mega Evolutions count as their mega type but you can only have one, legends and mythicals aren’t allowed, neither are UBs.

What is everyone’s favourite game that ISN’T on a Nintendo console?

  6. After a long battle with myself, I finally ordered a Switch Splatoon 2 bundle. Never played a shooter in my life, but I dig the unique style of Splatoon. I’m soooo excited. Just be tomorrow already!

  7. Did my first Go raid today after I got out of work. It was Articuno. The first one I have seen since the release this weekend. It was me and 11 other people that happened to be there. We lost the first time, but then kicked it’s butt the second. Unfortunately when the time came to catch it I choked….I threw one ball and it broke out. Then I threw 3 more and all 3 missed because it started getting frisky. the last one it also broke out of……..Dam man……I was so close lol Either way it was some fun. I think it would have been better if I was with people I actually knew, but oh well.

    • It was so hard to capture for me but on my last premiere ball I caught it and I was so happy.

I still have to get Lugia but I heard it’s even harder!!!!

      • This was the only one of those two I’ve seen in my area period. So I’m not convinced I’ll ever find it lol

  9. I love how GameFreak gave us 20 seconds of footage that made no sense after 5 minutes of a port of a spin off, used vague af words to describe it like “alternate story”, then not explain it further after everyone gets pissed

Genius marketing strategy. Don’t 3rd versions usually sell the worst? They are setting themselves up for failure like this

    Reply
      • I don’t follow you here. While showing off a new product without explaining what it is certainly stirs up the community, wouldn’t just actually stating some information do the same thing?

        Reply
          • While I’ve never been called “patient” by anyone, I don’t think it’s overly unfair for dedicated fans of a product to want something after the company has been silent for two months. Especially after a rough announcment.

          • I don’t think so. You can’t just drop titles of a game, show footage that doesn’t explain ANYTHING about the game (you could’ve told me the Pikachu stuff was hey you Pikachu 2 and I wouldn’t argue) and stay silent while the internet sits there angry and confused

          • Idk why you keep saying that cant do it when they did do it. And What are you gonna do about it? Just keep complaining? Youre still gonna buy the game anyway. If anything youre bringing more attention to it which is better for them. Theyve done it before and probably will keep doing it. Sorry. Nobody is going to say “wow they havent revealed news in two months? Im not buying this game anymore” Just hold ya Horseas..

          • It’s a terrible marketing strategy. Other than Pokémon Go, Sun and Moon was so successful because people who aren’t dedicated fans saw news pop up regularly which got them interested

With such a short amount of time and with it being a 3rd version it is really stupid

          • This is EXACLTY my point. Pokemon is big enough that they can have awful marketing strategies like this and still be considered a massive success. It’s this “too big to fail” mentality that’s causing them to make decisions that are upsetting fans.

          • I mean I dont think they have to give us a trailer every month, not every game gets a 1-2 trailers a month like sun and moon did

          • Oh yeah absolutely, they don’t have to. In fact I think SM had a bit too much info before reveal. However, they should know that they need to reassure the fans from the knee jerk reaction that came with the reveal.

          • Which is why I believe the game was also an after thought. I think they were working on the Switch game but abruptly switched development.

          • Exactly what Govnah said. Do you know how bg Pokemon is? It will sell well. And How is it terrible? You ont see info for two months? Oh Heavens not 2 months!!! I no longer want the game if I dont see anything for 2 months.
Puhlease people dont buy games because they see stuff they dont like! Not because they dont see anything.
And the people who dont play pokemon that get ‘interested’ they get occupied with other games and play those then they will see an other trailer hit about Pokemon on Youtube. (Pokemon trailers usually go to trending).
And Kids? Please kids will just see a date and probably not hear anything about it until commercials. They get their information from commercials.
Its pokemon. It will sell well and be fine. I promise

          • A) the Metroid Prime 4 reveal, while minimal, was met with extreme positivity from fans.
            B) that’s not 4 months away.

          • ??? I don’t understand your point. They aren’t going to fail obviously but clearly they have to work harder if they want 3rd versions to sell anywhere near as well as main line games. Look at the sales of B2W2 ffs.

By now they should’ve said something. It’s better than letting them build up negative emotions from fans

          • Pretty sure thats just curse of the third version. A lot of people dont buy third version

          • They know about the fan backlash from the ‘trailer’. Also I have seen people say they’ve cancelled their pre-orders, whether they actually have or end up buying the games anyway idk.

          • Might as well say something about that last part. While nobody is going to boycott the game after news droughts, when they’re followed by a rough reveal it gives people time to form a bad impression about the game off of assumptions that have yet to be confirmed or denied due to the said news drought.

Of course they can do it, but from a marketing perspective, they definitely shouldn’t.

          • Actually I hear a lot of people around here have cancelled pre-orders… Not me cause as much as I want info on USUM, I want the Yo-kai Watch Psychic Spectors game to get a date down, instead of going 3 months without a release date

    • This goes along with my older comment. No other company would be allowed to confuse and piss off their fans and then go silent for two months.

    • You do realise that just slapping Pokémon on it is going to have it sell more than what most devs would sell their soul for, right?

      Reply
  10. Might as well ask this while people are here:
Do you think the USUM thingies are
    A) Armor of Necrozma on Sol/Lun
    B) Projections of Sol/Lun by Necrozma
    C) some other thing that I haven’t considered

    B for me.
