Pokémon GO Gym Update Rolls Out, Brings New Hacking Penalties

A much-anticipated update to Pokémon GO is rolling out across iTunes and Google Play which includes re-designed gyms and an all new badge system, but those trying to illicitly catch Pokémon may be less than pleased. Posted to Reddit by A Niantic staff member, the game’s developer has a new plan to combat use of third-party programs in order to keep gameplay fair.

With the announcement of Raid Battles and the new battle features, we are staying true on our commitment to ensuring that Pokémon GO continues to be a fun and fair experience for all Trainers. Starting today, Pokémon caught using third-party services that circumvent normal gameplay will appear marked with a slash in the inventory and may not behave as expected. We are humbled by the excitement for all the new features we announced yesterday. This is one small part of our continued commitment to maintaining the integrity of our community and delivering an amazing Pokémon GO experience.

While short on details, it certainly seems like a step in the right direction to make the game more fair for players who spend time exploring he real world to catch Pokémon.

In addition, the Fire &a Ice Solstice Event has been extended by 24 hours!

  1. If you haven’t heard, we’ll likely see the new Pokemon game in 2018. I thought that was pretty obvious because GameFreak was hiring staff that worked on Wii U and PS Vita titles to assist with animations, character modeling, programming, and data work in March of this year. They’ve likely started planning and development about year or two ago. I’m excited to see this new Pokemon title! E3 2018 should be even more exciting next year.

      • They said it probably won’t be released for over a year, but technically November of next year is over a year from now. Plus the communications director from NOA said in a recent interview that the Switch Pokemon game will come next year. We’ll have to see what actually happens, but it certainly is possible it could come as early as next year.

Favorite: Excadrill need i say anything else, its a freakinjg badass mole with steel claws and a horn that can morph into a drill
Least Favorite: Ferrothorn, I. HATE.THIS THIIIIING
Thoughts: honestly me and Steel types have been growing apart lately, i really don’t like that many Steel types aside from Excadrill, Aggron and Forretress so far none are doing it for me no mo

    • FL: Steven Stone. This cool sophisticated guy is my favorite champion. His design is just so crisp
FP: Aggron! Of Course Aggron had to win, Have you seen a Pokemon look as powerful as Aggron? No. you haven’t

WL: Byron. He’s rubs me the wrong way. He doesn’t really look like a steel leader, and His hair is just so weird. He also looks too young to be Roark’s dad.
WP: Bronzor: Going through Diamond with enemy having this thing is the worst. It just never dies.

General Thoughts: Steel type is one of my favorite types. It’s one of those types, when paired with pretty much anything it just works. Their designs are all really cool and powerful.

Wikstrom, mostly cause I like the others ones better than him
Forretress, its design just isn’t good imo

It’s around the middle for me. Love the defensive power they possess, but they are alright to me.

    • Fav: Steven, I guess. None of the others are very good.
Least: I dislike all the others. Jasmine’s team is trash, Byron is ugly, Wikstrom is ugly and from Kalos

      Fav Pokemon: Magnezone!
Least: Klinklang and that ugly line. Sad they’re basically the only pure steel line

  4. I just realized why the Green and Pink joy-con haven’t been announced yet, it’s so obvious. NoA is probably waiting for the Splatoon 2 Direct in a couple weeks, like they did with the ARMS Direct. I’m mentioning this because I’m really enjoying my yellow ones 😛

  6. Well, just finished Gokaiger. I have to say, I loved it from beginning to end. It really holds up as an anniversary series. There’s so much more I need to see/see more of: Jetman, Liveman, Go-Buster (I’ve seen the first episode), and Kyuranger (Same as Go-Buster), just to name a few.

  10. I wonder how the map for USUM will look. There’s gotta be a change like the ominous vortex for Sinnoh in Platinum or half the region covered with ice for Unova in BW2. Personally I’m hoping to see the remains of a horrible forest fire…on Poni Island…the northern part of the island..

        • That doesn’t sound bad at all, like maybe the new areas could include undiscovered underwater caverns for you to explore

        • Make it actually increase and the temperature is always above 110 degrees , the Aether Foundation is now a climate change denial foundation and you have to battle for the survival of the islands.

          • I would rather my Pokémon games not broach topics that are too political. I mean they have already predicted that Barack Obama and Trump would become Presidents by heavily emphasizing the character Brock in the anime and Gumshoos respectively.

          • It’s actually sad that the climate has become to be seen as too political.
Person 1: “It’s been hot these days, innit?”
Person 2: “Sorry don’t want to discuss the weather, I’m not into politics.”

          • I was joking in my reply and thought that your idea is good. But I agree with your sentiment in that climate change can be considered a political conversation especially if you are not on a college campus. I currently attend a campus that has a strong marine science program and is in Miami so it is safer to talk about climate change as an academic topic. I’m not so sure about other campuses.

          • The concept of global warming was created by and for the Alola Region in order to make Aether manufacturing non-competitive.

    • I get the feeling it might be BW2 Isshu like update.
The theory someone had was they possibly might extend to 8 islands which would be great but if they don’t the least I expect is a solid change 2 the region, new additions etc

Gotta say tension is real high -_-
